IPod resets playing a Video Podcast

Hi, I have this iPod Classic - 80 GB since Saturday night and have a problem.
I subscribed to a video Podcast and downloaded some videos with iTunes. I transferred the files to my iPod by syncing from iTunes. For several videos, it resetted as soon as I hit Play. There came the black screen, the device clicked and then there came the screen with the apple logo, it waited and then went back to the main menu.
Those files played fine on iTunes, whether from the Library or from the Device while it was connected to the computer.
I restored the iPod, all the files were deleted from the device, I MANUALLY transferred them back to the device from my library by dragging and dropping and this time several other video podcast files caused the same resetting problem. Still, they were playing fine on iTunes' podcast list, no matter files under the library or under the device.
I unsubscribed from the podcast, re-subscribed, re-downloaded the files and MANUALLY transferred them. This time only one file caused the same problem. The strange thing is all those files which caused the problem before was working well this time. There was only one file which played well on iTunes but on iPod, blank screen-click-apple logo!!!
4 different customer care representatives and several hours were spent and the issue is not resolved. I wonder if this is a hardware problem or not. If so, this is the right time to return this iPod back

I am also having issues with this. I downloaded a selection of videos (some funny television ads that I found on company's websites) in .mv4 format and attempted to play them on my 80 GB iPod classic. Most of them work, but a few make the hard drive make a strange noise (the sound of the hard drive quickly stopping?), then reset the system (blank screen Apple logo). I sense no pattern among the technical details of the videos, but have included them below anyway.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Is it a bug? Is it the hardware? Should I get a new iPod and see what happens?

  • Problem: iPod nano 4th gen & video podcast

    Hi ladies and gents!
Just bought a brand new ipod 4th gen. mp3 playback works perfectly, but i experience the following problem when trying to watch a video podcast (the file is ok, it works under itunes on my macbook):
my ipod (nano) plays the first seconds of the podcast, but after some seconds the video gets stuck and the ipod doesn't react anymore. i tried several times to play different video podcast. they all get stuck after a few seconds (randomly something between 5 and 30 seconds)
Has anybody had the same problem
    and has found a solution?
Otherwise i'll go back to the shop to change the ipod for another one :S

After leaving the iPod to charge for at least 30 minutes, have you tried resetting it?

  • Bug in playing back video podcasts from playlists?

I subscribe to about 2 dozen podcasts, a few of which are video podcasts. I have a smart playlist that collects all the podcasts together, based an their Album name. I have a second smart playlist that collects all unplayed & unrated members of the first podcast playlist.
I have my Nano set to autosync the second smart playlist. If I navigate to this playlist (via main menu->Music->Playlists)I can see the video podcast titles listed there, see the little TV symbol next to them signifying they're video, but when I try playing them, I see a single frozen video frame, and the audio plays. Rotating the Nano to landscape mode doesn't make a difference. It happens on all my video podcasts.
But when I play the video podcast via main menu->Podcast (enabled via Settings->General->Main Menu), it'll play normally.
Has anyone else run into this bug? Anyone able to play video podcasts via the Music->Playlist?

This is a serious bug. I was puzzled how to play the video podcasts which were put in a playlist using the same method as yours: 1st Smartlist collects all podcasts, and the second one collects the unplayed ones. Then I synch the second smart play list. No matter what I do, I cant see the video. However thanks to your post, I now know I can see it via the much more "normal" route of selecting podcasts from the main menu.

  • Can I sync my Nano 6G and an iPod 5G, and keep video podcasts off my Nano?

Can I use my Macbook to sync both a Nano 6G and an iPod Touch 5G, and specify which podcasts go on which device?  I don't want video podcasts on my Nano.
    Thank you.

Yes. How you configure podcasts to sync to one device (from under each iPod's Podcasts configuration tab in iTunes) will not affect how the configuration settings of the other.

  • How do I sync my iPod without grabbing the Video Podcasts from my iTunes?

    Hi,
I have searched and could not find the answer to this problem.
Anyway, I have a 5th gen iPod and am running it on a Mac with the latest iTunes. On the iPod options pane, I have selected to update only the selected Podcasts. I am leaving the podcasts that I do not want on my iPod (but want to keep on my Mac) unselected.
Now although it is true that the unselcted Podcasts to not appear in the Podcast section of my iPod, the files are still there and can be found by artist, album, etc.
How can I get around this? Basically, I have a few gigs of Video Podcasts that I do not want to carry on the iPod but do want o keep on my Mac in iTunes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Try going into iTunes preferences and click on the iPod icon (pod has to be linked up) and choose to "manually" update iPod. Will this help?

  • 5th gen iPod not playing mpeg4 videos

I have a few mpeg4 videos that I wanted to add to my iPod. They play in iTunes and iTunes recognizes them as the correct format for my iPod. So, I connect my iPod and the videos uploaded themselves with the auto-update. After the update, I grabbed the iPod and went to the movies. None of them play! The screen goes black with the little white play button in the upper left hand corner for about 5 seconds. Then it goes back to the video menu. What could be wrong?

There are other posts on this topic.. Mine is doing it too.. Don't know what to do

  • Getting iPod to play TV video downloads in sequence

I am playing "TV shows" from my iPod through my TV. However, at the end of each video, the iPod goes back to menu, meaning I have to manually select the next video to play. Is there any way to get the videos to play one after the other?
I would think this can be done, because when I play files marked as "Music videos" through the TV, the play in sequence without trouble.

    Hey there,
One solution is to make a playlist for the group of episodes or tv shows, and then import that list onto your iPod. Give it a try.

"i think there is a program that allows you to rip stuff from your ipod back onto your computer. you could try doing that and then put them back on your ipod. "
That program is called yamipod I think. Wouldn't recommend using it to "Rip" stuff off though.

  • Ipod stops playing after each podcast

When I play music, each song plays one after the other like you expect. When I play my podcasts after each one the ipod stops and goes back to menu screen. How do I get it to play the podcasts one after the other like songs? Is this a setup item I missed? Thanks for any help.

The iPod does not use folders like you do in Windows or Mac OS. They are invisible to the user.
You are not explaining yourself very well or you have never used an iPod.
I don't understand how using folders will make it easier than it already is.
If everything is in folders and you do not use playlists, then you have to move everything around into folders to listen to specific music.
I never said playlists were cumbersome but they are sometimes ineffective. Some times you don't want a certain rating or a certain grouping but maybe you just want to listen to one album in order or one podcast.
So select that album or that one podcast and press play.
It's much easier to find that podcast or album by name then it is to scroll through thousands of entries to find the starting title of the group.
Why don't you do it this way now?
    I go to
Music -> Albums -> pick one and play
Music -> Podcasts -> pick one and play
That's what the problem was last week I would go to artists choose the artist then the album and then it would play one song and skip to the top menu.
That seems to have been a glitch.
I go to Music -> Artist -> Album and press play. It plays the entire album with all the songs in album in order.
It did it for every album and every song I chose every day of the trip a couple weeks ago and yes they all have there check boxes selected in iTunes.
The check box is used only if you want to use Update only checked songs in iTunes prefs -> iPod. Once the songs are on the iPod, this option has nothing to do with th eiPod.

  • Ipod wont play my videos

My ipod syncs the videos just fine but wen i go to play them they play as audion instead of showing the movies that were added. i tried restoring the ipod but still no luck please can suomeone help me out?

On your iPod go to "Videos / Video Settings".
Then select "TV Out" and either set it to "off" or "ask".
Also, make sure you are accessing the video through the videos menu. If you have a video mixed in an audio playlist and you access it through that, you also won't be able to see the video.

  • Why cant my ipod nano 4g support video podcasts

    help me

The only iPods that support video playback are the 5th gen and 7th gen. Sorry. You need to upgrade for videos.

  • I can't get my ipod to play the next podcast in sequence.

My old Mini played podcasts in sequence. At the end of one, it moved to the next podcast by the same author. My current 5th Gen goes back up to the main menu at the end of every podcast. Very frustrating! Thank you for your help!

You may need to have them in a playlist.
Also...if you have Shuffle turned on, make sure they're not set to Skip When Shuffling.

  • I just tried to play a video podcast on iTunes and received and error message saying QuickTime is not supported by this version of iTunes?

I have the latest version of iTunes installed on my iMac. Everything on the iMac is up to date. I am perplexed by iTunes not supporting QuickTime. Has anyone else experienced this?

Try relaunching iTunes in 32-bit mode first, as per the instructions in the following document:
iTunes for Mac: Older media files may require iTunes to reopen in 32-bit mode
