I realize yours is not a 5th generation, but it might be the problem.

  • IPod restarting problems.

My friend was listening to it during a basketball game at school and she said she just hit the select button while to listen to a song and it just froze. Didn't really take the time to do anything til now so i looked up how to restart it then it just freezes on the apple logo. Then i tried to put it in disk mode and that doesn't work either...had it for under a year can i still turn in for my warranty? ty in advance to ev1 that posts

Certainly it seems to me that the iPod may have a hardware problem. If it is under warranty definitely send it in for repair.

  • IPod restarts every time I click the center button

Every time I click the center button to go into the music folder, my iPod restarts, so I can't get into those files. It sometimes happens when going in to the extras folder as well. What do I do?!

Do you have any podcasts on your ipod?
My nano has a very strange problem with resetting too, whenever I transfer a podcast to the ipod, listen to them using the 'Podcasts' folder itunes makes in the ipod's music folder(not playlists, but in the root music menu, before playlists), then delete just the podcast itself instead of the whole podcast folder, then I try going back into the music menu on the ipod, it restarts every time.
Only fix I've been able to come up with is just creating a new playlist for just podcasts, and putting my podcasts in that playlist and deleting the 'Podcasts' folder that itunes creates everytime I transfer a podcast to the ipod.

my ipod restarted while sofwear update .now its just showing white screen...now how can i start my ipod...

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

This is ********. I did not buy this piece of **** just to play the songs it wants to play. I just read some other topics and people are having the same problem. I am not going to go through every possible song to start at 1 sec. So I guess there is no solution and its just a **** glitch. This isnt going to work for me. I am going to slit someones throat at apple if they dont do something about it. I have zero tolerance for this ********. I payed for a music player, but it aint playing. Is there anyone on these forums that works at apple that can tell me what to do before I go and do something I might regret? Thank you, have a swell afternoon.

  • IPod restarts when trying to play certain songs

My ipod has been acting crazy on and off now for a long time. Usually if I let it die and sit a day before recharging it it works again, but now I am having a new problem. When I play some songs my ipod just restarts itself, and I mean restarts. The Apple logo comes up and it starts over like I had never had it on. I still have all my music and all, but it like coming out of hibernation.
I guess best put, my ipod restarts after certain songs.

  • IPod restarts when trying to listen to a podcast

I have been downloading the "This American Life" podcasts each week. It seems that each week when I download the latest episode, when I go to listen to it on the iPod as soon as I select it my iPod restarts. After removing and adding it back numerous times sometimes I am able to get it to play, but not always.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way around it?

This is a known bug, Apple's working on it. For now, there are a couple workarounds. You can turn off the EQ on your iPod, start the podcast in itunes for a second or two, and then pause it and sync your iPod, or you can convert the podcast to a different file format (the hardest option). One of these should work for you.

  • Ipod Restarts by itself

My ipod is restarting by itself for no reson. I tryed to resort my ipod but it did not work at all.
    What should i do?

I have been having the same problem... AND I HAVE IDENTIFIED THE SIMILARITY IN ALL OF MY PROBLEMATIC MP3'S...
THEY ARE ALL ENCODED IN MONO
I do not have any other type of file besides MP3's on my IPOD, and as of yet, I have not had this restarting problem with ANY of my files EXCEPT for EVERY ONE of them that is in MONO (as opposed to stereo).
When I have some time I will try to RE-encode these songs in Stereo, and reload them into my Ipod to see what will happen. But I'm going on vacation for a week and will not be able to do this for over a week. If anyone out there has the time, please try this and let us know how it works out.
For the time being, I am removing EVERY file that is encoded in Mono from my Ipod, and hopefully this problem will disappear.

  • Ipod Restarts during videos

I just got a new Ipod last night. Between then and tody I loaded a couple videos on it that I downloaded from Itunes. I downloaded them just for the purpose of seeing if the Ipod would play them. All seemed ok - I got them loaded on after light troubleshooting, but when I go to play the videos from my Ipod, the Ipod will restart after about 20 seconds. The video loads fine, looks and sounds awesome, then all the sudden you get the black screen with the apple logo. I have tested this with more then one video.
Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong? I really want to figure this out, as the video feature is what pushed me into buying this.
    Thanks in advance!

I noticed that, while the Ipod is plugged in and ejected from Itunes, it will play an entire video with no flaws.
It is only when I am running off the battery that I have this problem. I thought maybe my battery was shot, but, after the Ipod restarts, the battery meter is still full, and I can start playing songs from there with no troubles.
So it would seem this re-starting problem only happens when I am running off the battery - but not when I am plugged into my USB.
Should I still give that Ipod Updater a shot? Or does this sound like it might be something else?

  • Ipod restarts during shows

I need some help. I got some family guy episodes into my ipod & i restarts around when i watch the episodes. My ipod does this when
    - I fast forward to a scene, it doesn't restart quickly, but when i do it a second or third time & when i fast forward far.
-Once the episode ends, the ipod restarts
-When i pause the episode & i go to play a song instead.
Is this normal for an ipod or unusual.
If it matters, i got these episodes from limewire.

I am having the same issue but with podcasts. My ipod 5th gen is two days old. It only happens on some podcasts-These are all podcasts from itunes directory.
As soon as they begin to play my ipod resets.
I have removed the podcasts that seem to be causing the problem. Is this a software bug?
Just a little side note regarding the illegal file accusation.... Family guy dvds are available for purchase and although I'm not a lawyer my understanding on media is that it is not illegal to make a personal copy for yourself if you own the dvd.
So "ripping" a file from a dvd to ipod of something you own is not illegal. I agree about Limewire- as an artist it annoys me when people steal other peoples work but just accusing someone of stealing without all the facts is wrong too.

  • IPod restarting while transfering music?

I have tried searching but have not found any fixes for this... is there any fix known?
I purchased it today and every time I try to synch my library it transfers anywhere from 100-400 songs and then the ipod restarts and when it is detected again by the computer it acts as if it is the first time it has been connected to the computer. Except that at the bottom of the screen where it shows how much is used it shows how much music should be on there (for example it will show 4gb used but it wont show any files) so i have to restore it and then start over.
i seem to be able to transfer 100-200 songs at a time without any problemsin the manual update mode but it is a waste of time.

  • Ipod restarts question

When i play certain songs my ipod restarts, but when i turn off the EQ settings, sound check, and compilation settings in the main menu it doesn't have a problem playing the songs, anyone know why it does that, can i fix it?

it usually is caused by a corrupt file. some are more severe than others. personally, i have had single songs render my ipod useless, and have had to send them in for service. at any rate, you should try to isolate which songs give you problems, and remove them, then re-import them. see if that helps.

  • Ipod restarts randomly!!!!! HELP!

    Hi
My 5G ipod restarts randomly during a movie (at basically any time) and some times when listening to music or scrolling through pictures, I've restored it and updated it to the latest version... does anyone know this problem? help is welcome!

Maybe some wires are being juggled around?
    Not sure.
If you've successfully restored your iPod etc, then it should be okay. Ummm, you could try reformatting your iPod then reinstalling the software. If the problem persists, it could be a hardware problem, so consult the repair section of the website.
