IPod restarts when syncing music

My iPod restarts when its in the middle of syncing music. Sometimes it just restarts and other times it says the required folder cannot be found. Can anyone help me?

Plug your iPod into your computer and once iTunes open go to the iPod preference plane on the source list. There is the option to restore your iPod. Restoring means to erase your iPod completely and reinstall a new software on it. So if you have any files in your iPod that you don't have on your computer, back them up before you do the restoring. Otherwise, proceed with the restore (You need internet connection to do the restore). You should be fine after restoring it.

Help! my ipod touch will sync music and podcasts. They show up on the playlists but when I tap on them to play it very briefly show the artist/album cover for playing but then quickly reverts to the playlist or artist menu. I have restored it and tried everything from the troubleshooting list. Any ideas? And everything else is working perfectly...

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync

By design, the organizer (and any other database management systems) is there to prevent you from duplicating your media files. The catalog management allows you to have the same image in different categories or albums. Duplication in different folders is to be absolutely avoided.
The same image file can have multiple tags like 'family', 'vacations', 'birthdays' and be present in three different albums with the same names. On obvious advantage is less disk space. Another one with your present folder system is that if you edit one of your duplicates, the other ones are unchanged.
I don't see an easy way to make your present folder structure simplified for the organizer ...

  • ITunes 10.4 crashing when syncing music

I'm having a major problem after upgrading to iTunes 10.4 for Windows.  I'm now randomly crashing when syncing music to my Ipad 2.   It seems some sync fine and then all the sudden it crashes.
    The crash I'm getting is:
    AppName: itunes.exe     AppVer: 10.4.0.80     ModName: quicktime.qts
    ModVer: 7.69.80.9     Offset: 001cd746
What's odd is that it's even crashing on audio podcasts that I downloaded on my iPad 2 which are being synced to my PC without issue, but then cause it to crash when syncing back.
I had no problems with 10.3.1 or earlier.

This is long, jump to the end if you don’t care about my new life problem! And sorry for my English, I’m not a native English speaker! Also, I’m just posting this stuff so people with this issue don’t have to try it all also.
ok, so my problem started with the ipad 2; i had a lot of pictures there but wanted to change the "stupid" way (for a windows addict) that apple arranges, or not, folders hierarchy. I deleted every single picture and imported my new structure (in windows). Useless to say that i got stuck here. i tried 100 times and i got the quicktime.qts module error (iTunes crashing). Good to know, obv, but what do i know of quicktime!? nothing...
Since i have an iPhone 4, and the iPhone only ever carried pictures taken with it, never had synced pictures before i decided to give it a try. same error…Ok, now i know the problem isn't in the devices but in iTunes itself, Quicktime, most likely.
Not happy with this conclusion, i decided to restore factory settings on both ipad 2 and iPhone 4 (4.3.5 ios). Gave it another try, after deleting every ipod photo cache folder in my library and re-installing iTunes completely (i tried re-installing before devices restoring with same error). No luck here either...
Went to discussion boards and figured a lot of people are having this issue, so i thought it’s probably in the iTunes 10.4 update, since i didn’t have a backup of my previous library, and i have 20000 songs, and didn’t want to lose the only library i had, i opted not to install previous iTunes version because i knew my library wouldn’t work and i rather have a decent library with no videos, than videos with a new library to build. So I didn’t try this.
i tried everything, there's a post that a guy, a while ago, resolved this issue (or similar) simply by deauthorizing and reauthorizing computer, or just by logging in to his iTunes account... other person resolved his issue by logging on a new windows account and syncing with a "clean" iTunes then moving to his previous account. Or deleting some quicktime files and folders that are on system32 folder, besides the 2 files that are needed... i only had the 2 needed files, no more! I tried it all, no luck.
Somewhere i read it could have to do with quicktime not being the default video player for .mov files, so i made it, still no luck.
My last try was messing with the registry looking for "stupid leftovers" of quicktime, a lot of them i knew shouldn’t be there and i deleted, but i was still stuck on the crash error. for this i removed iTunes, cleaned computer from apple stuff (all but my library files that i backed up),
cleaned registry and installed everything back again.in the meanwhile, no sure when, i figured since this could have something to do with quicktime (i noticed that it gets stuck when starting to optimize videos), i created a test folder with one picture and 1 video and I managed to pass through optimizing process. tried with 3 movies, after emptying the device and deleting cache folder (like from scratch), but Kabooom, crashed again. tried same thing, but first i opened the movies in quicktime in windows, then synced and it worked!! probably this could be the solution, tried with my whole library (2k+ photos and about 100 movies) but crashed again... probably i forgot/messed up to open some movie in quicktimes pior to syncing, but well, i was fed up with .mov files, or .mp4, m4v, FWIW (i tried them all).
After this (i only did all this because I’m computer addicted!) i rested my case, i posted on the forums and had 2 choices: wait for apple to solve this, if they care or Format my PC and probably be getting the same error, this is the only thing i didn't try cause i have lots of stuff to backup and configure, and lots of onetime license software...
I kept doing stuff with computer, installed a bunch of software (not related to this but related to DVD and movie editing stuff), after i stopped working i retried again, Meh, cleaned everything and got thru once with my new test folder (with different videos and pictures), but when i went to my REAL folders, APPCRASH again. Broke my mouse (apple owes me this!), stopped working and went to sleep.
I was real convinced this could have something to do with video encoding/decoding stuff. And also about quicktime
Now, the only thing working for me was:
Opening movies in quicktime prior to syncing (worked once or twice)
syncing right after I turned on the computer, but only small folders.
Makes me think problem is in the processor, since it eats a lot of CPU and memory at the end of a 1000 picture and videos sync. And it crashes when starting to optimize videos, sometimes I see it passes like 2 or 3 movies and crashes after. That’s why I can sync small folders right after I turn on my computer, but with big folders itunes just lags my windows wayyyy to much and at the end (when gets to optimizing videos) is really hot and slow, and crashes, I could make 1 video at a time but I believe itunes should work for itself without these “workarounds”.
I’m a computer guy and an application that uses up almost all computer CPU when “working” and “eats” way too much RAM is not a  solid application… in this part itunes *****.

  • Ipod touch 5th generation disconnecting when syncing music

My iPod keeps disconnecting and reconnecting halfway through manually syncing music, losing all the progress in the process. I've managed to sync about 300 songs so far by doing them in small amounts at a time, but it is trying to sync the artwork for the songs all at once and it keeps freezing and then disconnecting partway through the process.
It started around the time I updated my iOS, but my brother says he has similar problems with his iPhone and he has an older generation. I've tried using a powered usb hub but that hasn't fixed it. I'm reasonably confident it's not the cable because my brother isn't using the same cable (mine is a lightning cable and his isn't).

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reboot the computer
    - Try another cable.
    - Try another USB port
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • Ipod touch wont sync music after restore/update

i recently came back from the apple store after trying to update my ipod to 4.2 and running across many errors. finally, my ipod is working again however as it had to be restored i have to sync everything back onto it. The apps, photos and videos synced fine but when it tries to sync music, itunes freezes right away. it will say syncing whatever song and it just stops. First, the number of songs and what song it syncs first seems to change every time i sync it. Sometimes it says 1 of 1 sometimes 168 out of 168, when it should be at least over 500 songs. Second, after i let the computer with the frozen itunes sit for a while, it came up with 2 error messages; one saying the song could not be synced because of error -20 i think, the second saying the data couldn't be written onto the ipod and then it froze forever on the finishing syncing bar. i've tried restarting my computer, disconnecting the internet and disabling my firewall. itunes is up to date and so is the ipod obviously. we use ca security center. please help i just want to be able to use my ipod again

the ca security people fixed my problem and its syncing fine. if anyone else has problems syncing while running ca security post on this forum and they will pm you the solution

*i've reset the pod a bunch of times*
Have you tried "restoring" your iPod? Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to sync using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • Ipod having trouble syncing music

I used to have all my music onto my ipod until when i synced it to add more music it said that the folder couldn't be found and it erased all of my music from my ipod. Since then I havent been able to sync more then 100 songs before it says the same error message and again deletes all my music from my ipod. I have restored my ipod about 5 or 6 times and it still does the same thing. Any ideas to what the problem could be?

Hard to gues as you do not mention your issue.
    What "trouble" are you having?

  • IPod 5 not syncing music

I've tried to sync music so many different ways, I've tried how you usually would do it through the music tab but it starts and stops right away. Then I tried to click and drop the songs but it won't let me. I originally got some songs onto it by using auto fill And it put music on the iPod but now that I've downloaded more music and was hoping to add it to my iPod, none of those are working, when I try to auto fill it now with music it says preparing to update files and then after two minutes it stops again. Help pls??

Assuming the songs play OK in iTunes on the computer:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync

    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

  • IPod Shuffle not syncing music

iTunes says that the iPod Shuffle is synced. I have selected a song to put on the iPod but I can not find the command to 'sync.'  I have tried selecting a song and dragging it to the iPod but when I disconnect the iPod Shuffle and pulg in the earphones, I get a message to use iTune to sync. What is the command or procedure to sync the music to the iPod so it will play?

You can load content onto a shuffle manually, using Autofill, or by setting up automatic syncing.  This document describles those methods.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1719
NOTE:  If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
When you select the shuffle in the sidebar, under DEVICES, you should see the Sync button at the lower right corner of the window.  However, "syncing" does not come into play (for loading content) if you are using the manual method (or Autofill).  If you set up automatic syncing, syncing (any changes since the last sync) happens automatically when you connect the shuffle.

  • IPod restarts when trying to play certain songs

My ipod has been acting crazy on and off now for a long time. Usually if I let it die and sit a day before recharging it it works again, but now I am having a new problem. When I play some songs my ipod just restarts itself, and I mean restarts. The Apple logo comes up and it starts over like I had never had it on. I still have all my music and all, but it like coming out of hibernation.
I guess best put, my ipod restarts after certain songs.

  • IPod restarts when trying to listen to a podcast

I have been downloading the "This American Life" podcasts each week. It seems that each week when I download the latest episode, when I go to listen to it on the iPod as soon as I select it my iPod restarts. After removing and adding it back numerous times sometimes I am able to get it to play, but not always.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way around it?

This is a known bug, Apple's working on it. For now, there are a couple workarounds. You can turn off the EQ on your iPod, start the podcast in itunes for a second or two, and then pause it and sync your iPod, or you can convert the podcast to a different file format (the hardest option). One of these should work for you.
