IPod Restarts with no Data

I just did the solution put forth by BandanaDan at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=461952&tstart=15
and it worked...partially. My computer now recgonizes the iPod when it is attached, however, after I put all my music, videos, pictures onto the iPod, it keeps turning on and showing the language selection screen and appears to have never been used before. I scroll through all the menus on the iPod and none of my files are on it, but in iTunes, it shows my player having all of the files on it. Not sure what is the problem. Please help!

Hi, thanks for the information. I have performed a second restore of the iPhone 3G and set up a a 'new iPhone' without any backup. It is running the latest iOS 4.0.1 software. The GPS still does not function. I only loaded 2 full GPS applications the CoPilot Live USA and NDrive (two GPS applications that include full maps). The NDrive application can get a fix if I am still next to my home (via the wi-fi) connection but once I leave the wi-fi - it continually reports the message that it is trying to obtain GPS signal.
The CoPilot live application can't even get a fix when I am still connected to my home wireless network (note the Google maps application does get a general fix via the wi-fi). I do have the Location Services switched on - thus Google maps works via wi-fi, etc. The CoPilot live application will continually report that it is trying to determine the GPS location. I have left the unit outside with a clear view of the sky for several hours and neither application can get a GPS fix.
Since this is my 2nd full clean restore of the iPhone 3G I have to believe either 1) the GPS in the unit is broken or 2) It is intentionally disabled or crippled by the software so as not to function without a enabled SIM card.
It seems odd that the GPS in the unit would be the only thing broken - while wi-fi, bluetooth, everything else functions ok. I will try to bring it to an Apple store soon and see if they can indeed verify that the GPS in the unit is broken.

  • 5G with 1.1 "Your iPod is up to date"?

Eager to try the new games, I downloaded iTunes 7, installed, and bought one.
When I plug in my 5G 60GB iPod, the iTunes summary screen says (correctly) that I've got 1.1. However, the Update button is greyed out and it says "Your iPod is up to date".
Did Apple pull 1.2 due to problems? Or is there secret sauce somewhere I need to find to get a 5G to update?

  • Ipod touch 3rd Gen not fully starting up - constantly restarting with the apple logo screen

    Hi,
First of all, I cannot get my ipod touch (3rd Gen) to start up so I cannot get model specifics and version numbers - though it is iOS 5.1.1
I have obviously tried to restart it by holding the power and home button for 10 secs but this has not done anything.
At the moment, the ipod switches on and I see the black screen with the white apple logo - this stays on for about 3 minutes, then I get the little spinning circle (but it isn't spinning) for a couple of minutes, before it powers off and does this again... repeatedly. It only stopped because the battery power ran out.
I have connected it to my computer with the latest version of itunes - it appears in the devices list but just has a spinning 'loading' icon and is grayed out.  As my ipod restarts the cycle again as above, my computer makes the noise as if i just plugged it back in and the above happens again in itunes.
The problem began when I updated apps (through update apps in app store) and it froze - I turned the ipod off to restart it, and now this is happening.
Any help or advice extremely grateful... I can't even access it to get it restored which is a bit of a problem as I have work notes on it. (Obviously I don't know if notes are backed up on ipod backups through itunes?)
    Many, many thanks in advance!

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it.  If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.

What do you mean by "reunite". Are you experiencing connectivity issues between your iPod Nano and your iTunes on your PC? If yes, in what do these issues consist? Are there any error messages you are being returned?

The iBook does not have a backup (PRAM) battery. It only has the main battery and a small capacitor which maintains the settings long enough to do a battery swap. If the battery is dead, what you are seeing can happen.
If the battery is not a problem (or even if it is), you could try resetting the PMU and see if that helps.

  • HT1296 I bought a new computer and I want to sync my iPod Touch with the new computer without losing data.

I bought a new computer and want to use the new computer to sync data with my iPod touch.  I understand that you can only sync a device with one computer at a time.  This if fine because I don't care to sync my iPod with the old computer anymore.  How do I set up my new computer to be the computer that syncs with my iPod touch from now on, without losing any data?

    You don't.
When you sync to a different computer it erases the content from the ipod and replaces it with the data from the new computer.
Just copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one, then sync

  • Mac keeps shutting itself down repeatedly then restarting with a ridiculous date?

ive never posted here on the forums so I apologise in advance
basically I have a 15" MacBook Pro for about two years now.
    i think this is important?:
    OS X
    version 10.9.4
    2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    anyway
long story short everything just went downhill when i upgraded to Mavericks I think it's called. Wooooooooow my mac went slower.
Just recently now In the past month my mac started to and still is) randomly, and I mean completely randomly, turning itself off completely then restarting with the chimes and everything. The worst part is the fact that it changes my macs date to 2001 alwaaaaays.
i suppose their may be a few reasons why:
my macs charger chord thingy has a rip of the rubber surrounding it so one inch of my wire is the silvery wirey chord thingy. I put that special electrical coverage tape over that though.
my Mac is usually never turned off. I always have an ongoing project or I'm doing homework so I just lock my mac and let it sleep until next use. Shutting it down is too much effort.
My mac mac has had about 419 cycles for the battery if that helps
no it's not anything with my CPU I rarely have more than 4 apps open and my fans dont overheat
My mac also has a lot of files but not THATTTT much. Most are photos and music. yes I will be purchasing an external hardrive to transfer everything soon. But even before mavericks my mac was pretty fast.
basically I'm not good with technical talk so again I apologise but yeah I've looked at so many different possibilities I.e- ****** battery, charger, too many files, fans overheating etc. One is right probably but it'd be nice to know which one.
    cheers x

If you are using XP, and you went through the procedure at the bottom of the previously linked document to change the iPod's assigned drive letter, and you also tried putting it into Disk Mode...
If you have not already, try shutting down your computer and disconnecting all USB devices, including hub.  Start up with only standard keyboard and mouse connected.  Just to be safe, put the iPod into Disk Mode again
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
Run iTunes.  Connect iPod to a direct USB port on computer.  iTunes may prompt you about "recovery" and ask you to do a Restore.  Try to do a Restore again.
