IPod Restore did not fix issue...can't update iPod

Apologies for posting this as a "reply" earlier in the night...I'm new to this online help forum thingy. It truly belongs here as a "question," so here goes:
I have used my iPod without issue for over a year. Suddenly, I have encountered some freakish problems. The iPod connects to iTunes, but nothing happens after that (no transfer of songs...just freezes in "Do Not Disconnect" mode). I have taken the following steps today:
1) Tried resetting iPod. No dice.
2) Downloaded new 2006-03-23 updater.
3) Downloaded new v6.04 iTunes.
4) Uninstalled iTunes v6.03 and restarted PC, as prompted.
5) Installed new 2006-03-23 updater and restarted PC, as prompted.
6) Installed iTunes v6.04 and restarted PC, as prompted.
7) Shut down iTunes.
8) Ran Updater...performed "Restore." (The "Update" button was greyed out and has been ever since I installed the new Updater 2006-03-23).
9) Connected to iTunes...began updating songs, left PC to let it download the 3000+ songs while I ate dinner, etc. Left during the transfer of song #13 of 3000+.
10) Came back to an error message that I don't recall.
11) Closed iTunes, re-ran Updater.
12) Tried iTunes again...iPod showed up, but was given the error message "The iPod could not be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to."
13) Disconnected and reconnected; tried all other firewire ports. No dice. Firewire card in PC is functional.
14) Received this error message: "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod. Use the iPod Software Updater application to restore the iPod to factory settings."
15) Closed iTunes and re-ran Updater. Again.
16) Opened iTunes. No dice. Again. This time, it didn't even prompt me to customize the name of my iPod...it just connected to iTunes and sat there with the default name "IPOD." Nothing happened for several minutes, so I ejected the iPod via iTunes.
17) Tried Disk Mode. Nothing.
On the bright side, the iPod is now fully charged...it seems the power aspect is working and there is some data transfer capability. Nothing else is wrong with the PC...I have encountered no other usability issues...I run AdAware, Spybot, and have the full McAfee Suite (all updated with the latest detection/definition files). Running Win XP Pro and using U2 Spec. Ed. iPod.
I quit for the night, but tomorrow is a new day. Help!!!

Thanks...forgot about the anti-virus/firewall angle. That was helpful because it allowed me to rule out the possibility of those security programs interfering with any Apple program components.
Uninstalled iTunes and the iPod Updater...reinstalled with firewall and antivirus disabled. Restored iPod with firewall and antivirus disabled. Then tried syncing the iPod with iTunes...still had issues.
Restored again in disk mode with antivirus and firewall disabled (modem off the whole time, of course). The update quit on song #1777 out of 3600+. Still not working properly. Aaaargggh!!! I'm thinking a trip to the Genius Bar is in order if I can't get a resolution here...problem is, the Apple store is a half hour away. Any other thoughts?

  • My 5th Gen iPod touch does not keep time and the bluetooth will not turn on. Full restore did not fix.

Recently my 5th generation iPod Touch stopped keeping time. As long as the screen stays on, it will stay accurate, but once it "sleeps" the time reverts to the last accurate time it had. If I go to Settings>General>Date&Time> and turn Set Automatically off and on, it will catch up, but just for as long as the screen stays on. Not too friendly for battery life that way. Also, maybe unrelated, the Bluetooth function will not turn on. When I try to turn it on, I just get a constant spinning wheel.
I have tried everything from a simple restart to a full device wipe back to factory default. No change. I took it in to the Genius bar this afternoon. They tried a diagnostic and another wipe. Then they said they didn't know and I could pay $150 to replace it. Not a bad deal, but not what I wanted to hear.
    Any ideas?

    All I can suggest is
Try DFU mode and then restore again to factory settings/new iPod

  • Restore did not fix "other" storage problem

The "Other" category is taking up 5.96GB of my 16GB and I can't figure out how to free some of that space.
I deleted/disabled the album artwork and restored my iTouch but nothing happened - actually the "Other" got larger when I restored instead of getting smaller. I only have a handful of apps so I'm not sure what is occurring.
    Here is the break down:
    Audio 7.14GB
    Photos 815.6MB
    Apps 77.9MB
    Other 5.96GB
Is there anything else I can do? It is taking up almost half of my space!
I am using a Macbook and the iPod software is 3.1.2
    Thanks.

    Thank you!
When I restored it again from new it worked. I added the files back and focused on apps first, then music, etc. It seems to have worked. I'm not sure what happened as I don't think the files are any different.
I don't use my calendar on my computer - I would love too but if I sync it now it will erase all of my iTouch calendar events, right. I am going to look into how to move my calendar from my iTouch to my mac and then I should be able to sync. I didn't realize I could do this!
    Thanks again!

  • IPhone 1.0.1 Wi-Fi issue *STILL A PROBLEM* 1.0.2 DID NOT FIX ISSUE *

    Ok.
I'm amongs 20%+ of iPhone users having HUGE issues with Wi-Fi after the 1.0.1 update release.
    Problem:
Phone REFUSES to connect to any network
    Solutions taken:
    Apple Support
    Apple Update 1.0.2
    Airplane mode on and off
    Reset network settings
    Restore phone completley
    Hard reset
Now reading the dozens of threads from other sites.. Alot of questions and problems are going unanswered. Before the update I was able to connect flawlessly.
What alot of people have been saying:
Solution: "grab the router, look under the sereial then thake that number enter it add a $ infront of it, type it again, press hold then get your IP with the SQL data feature of the router linkses and take the defaut DHCP and make sure you enter it there..
    Response: WHAT????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Thats IRRELEVENT because you cant connect to any other wifi spots except your own. What if I'm NOT home and need wifi?
I'm sure this thread will get tons of "try this" responses and 0 solutions.
It's a software issue apple NEEDS to recognize (not the tech people/not word of mouth..) but ON their website.
I am still going on with no WIFI (EVER)
Please keep bumping this thread until Apple releases 1.0.4 to fix the REAL bug.

First off, I totally sympathize with your problem. However 20% is implausible and unless you've asked every iPhone owner, you have no way of knowing how many people this affects.
That said, this is a support forum, and it seems that a lot of people have tried to offer you....support. If you're unwilling to try what they suggest, then I don't know what you expect. Don't complain about something if you're unwilling to try to find a solution. Please don't think I'm suggesting fault, but it's quite possibly a configuation problem, and you might want to take the phone to a store and let them work on it with you.
Apple does not do anything offically through these boards, so you *will not* get an answer from Apple here. All you will get are Apple experts, an maybe an employee or two (working unoffically of course) trying to help you. It's up to you if you want to accept it or not.
    Good luck

  • KB2509007 did not fix problem with Install Updates hanging at 0% during OSD task sequence

Hi everybody. We recently started building our Build & Capture Task Sequence for our Windows 7 gold image. However, I keep running into the problem where the Install Software Updates step keeps hanging at "downloading updates 1 of 164 (0%).
This is a known issue that is supposed to be addressed with hotfix KB2509007. I followed the instructions
here to install the hotfix on my site server. I then added the PATCH= argument to my "Setup windows and ConfigMgr" step in my TS. But still my TS was hanging in the same spot.
    Then I found
this page, which says that there is another known issue with KB2509007, and the order in which it is installed along side other hotfixes (such as R3). So I followed those instructions, and confirmed that UpdatesHandler.dll is at version 4.00.6487.2188,
and BOOM, the updates installed and I captured my gold image. This was about a week ago.
Well, since then, we have had a patch Tuesday, and I am trying to run by Build & Capture TS again to integrate the latest updates into my gold image, but now my TS is hanging at 0% again! I have confirmed that UpdatesHandler.dll is at the correct version,
so I am unsure what the issue could be now.
Does anybody have any experience with this issue? Thanks in advance for any help!
UPDATE: I re-ran my TS, and now the updates are installing. I'm not sure why the behaviour is so inconsistent though...

If you can't enter the passcode then you have to place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore the iPod via iTunes. For ecovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Note that this requires using the sleep/wake button.  If you are not successful then there is nothing else that I know you can do.

  • 2.1 Update did not fix SMS tone issue

I have been having the text tone issue as many others have. That problem being that when a text is recieved the phone will only vibrate. The 2.1 update did not fix the issue...imagine that.

Hi. You're the first person who has posted about the phone only vibrating when getting text messages. Can you tell me more of the problems you are experiencing when receiving texts? I ask because I exchanged my phone twice already because after a certain number of texts, the audio alert for text messages stops and only vibrates. I thought it was the phone so Apple exchanged it but I'm still experiencing the same problem with this third phone.

Most of your purchases content can be downloaded again via the Purchased tabs in each of the store. I realize that this will be a problem for the iTunes Store on the iPad, but that has nothing to do with apps, since apps are in the App Store.
If you backed up synced with iTunes before you restored the iPad, your content should be in iTunes on your Mac and you should be able to sync it back again.

  • My  ipod touch is 3rd gen how can i update my ios from 4.2.1 to 5.1.1 when i shift   restore and load the ipod3_5.1.1.ios its always say your firmware is not compatible

my  ipod touch is 3rd gen how can i update my ios from 4.2.1 to 5.1.1 when i shift + restore and load the ipod3_5.1.1.ios its always say your firmware is not compatible

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
    Identifying iPod models
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

iOS 7.0.3 did not fix the mirroring issue with ATVs and AirServer.  Anyone have an idea what needs to be done?  The only solution we have found is to reboot the iPad.  We don't have the option of restarting the wireless as so many people are on and it would further disrupt classes.

    Regards.

iPhone warranty is not international. You will have to return your
iPhone to Saudi Arabia for repair/replacement. Either take it back
yourself or send to friend/relative for them to take to Apple. Apple
will not accept international shipments for repair nor will Apple
ship repaired/replaced iPhones out of the country where the repair
    was done.
