When electronics get emersed in liquid, it's not the actual water that causes them to break (although if you spilled something like coke with a bunch of sugar, the sugar would stay in the device even after the liquid of the coke dissolved). What breaks the device is if either it was on when it was emersed in water, or if you turn it on before all the water can evaporate. If so, the water will conduct the electricity between the wires and short circuit the device. If you weren't thick enough to try and turn your device on immediately after you took it out of the washing machine, then it should be fine if you just let the water evaporate. Another technique (to make the water evaporate faster and, on rare occassions, to save a device if you've turned if on while there was still water in it) is to put the device in rice and let it sit overnight. Hope this helps.

  • IPod put through the Washing Machine

Well, I put my month old 60 GB iPod through the washing machine this past sunday and as one would assume, I'm having problems with it. As far as it stands right now, when I plug it into my computer it will occosionally alternate between a sign that it's charging or a battery with an exclamation mark. The majority of the time, however, it shows nothing. Also, there was one instance that I connected it to my computer and the apple emblem came up... and stayed up, even after I disconnected it for a few hours. Given all of that information, does anybody have any suggestions or have anything to say to offer me a glimmer of hope that my mistake may be reversed? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

My uncle has had his phone fall in a coffee mug and he managed to revive it but that was becuse he has had this happen befor. I think that you might have already screwed it up forever but it is still worth giving this a shot.
Let the iPod completely dry out. Dont touch if for like a week or somthing and then it should be ready. Plug it in and if it doesent work its never going to work again. If you get a connection with you computer then you can restore it and it might save it.
    good luck man.

Ok, i have a 1GB shuffle and not realizing it was still in my pants, it went through the wash and dryer. Is there anyway to salvage it?

  • Help, my sons iPod went through the washing machine

    What do we do?

Hey Bubbybalootoo, you can try the rice thing, but after going through a wash, don't expect much. (Just telling you up front-- so you don't get to excited). Leave it off, do not attempt to use or charge until you dry it out! Place the iPod in a sealed bag of uncooked rice for at least 10 days, (yes; a week and a half). Change the rice every couple of days. After 10 days attempt to turn it on, you may need to charge it. When you do attempt to charge watch the iPod closely, if you note is getting hot, or starts to make crackling sounds or starts to smoke or smell like something is burning UNPLUG IT IMMEDIATELY!! Means something has shorted out. If all appears to charge OK then charge it for 30 minutes keeping a close eye on it. Then attempt to turn on. You may need to Reset or Restore to new or try going into DFU recovery mode. And nothing may work, water is very for electronic devices, as you well know. This is a long shot, but for a couple of bucks of rice worth a try. If nothing works, contact Apple about purchasing an out of warranty refurbished iPod. Will be cheaper then buying new. Apple's warranty does not cover water damage, it is considered abusive use. If you attempted to turn on the iPod before drying it out, then the damage is definitely done, save your rice and buy a new iPod. Hope this helps, Good luck. Cheers.

  • My iPod 5th gen touch went through the washing machine. It still works but it has water in the screen and I can't get it out. I put it in uncooked rice for a day but it didn't work. And suggestions??

Leave it in the rice for at least a day and change the rice every other day or so. The rice and iPod should be in a sealed container.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $149. They do not fix yours.

  • Is there any hope for a Nano 6th gen that went through the washing machine?

Is there any hope for a Nano 6th Gen that went through the washing machine?  All of the devices contents are showing up in iTunes when connected but the device itself is not working.

    Hello kpratta,
There is some hope. I have heard of someone putting the ipod in a bag of dry rice and putting the bag in a dark place for a 4-5 days. After that they used this:
    www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
This has the best chance. The rice absorbs any liquid in the ipod.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I sell an iPhone that has been through the washing machine?

I have a 16 month old iPhone 5S that went through the washing machine. Screen busted and now it doesn't work. I was wondering if it was still sellable. Meaning, is there anyone out there that would buy such a phone and be able to use the parts?
I'm not trying to dupe anyone, I'm going to be up front about the condition, but I wasn't sure if any part of the phone still had value in it's current state.
    Thanks for any help.

Yes, you can sell it as "for parts or not working" (that's what eBay would have you list it as). But you'd probably only get $10-$20 for it. Also, although it's not working, do as much of this as you can: What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.

  • Yesterday i accidenttly Washed my ipod touch in the washing machine!!! What do i do??

Yesterday, i accidently washed my iPod touch in the washing machine!!! help me!!

Do not turn on or charge until it is dry. To dry place the iPod in a sealed container with a desiccant (uncooked rice works) for a week and change it daily.  The try:

It may or may not work OK afterwards.

  • Desperate to recover photos from an iPhone5 that has been through the washing machine

My iPhone5 has gone through the washing machine and I am desperate to recover my photos. Am I better off leaving it in rice for a week and trying it, or immediately taking it to my service provider to try and get it repaired?

Thanks for your responses. It wasn’t in a waterproof case, just a rubber one. I have insurance, so I am not concerned about my handset, just the photos. It is currently sitting in a container of rice, and I was thinking about taking it apart and putting it back in the rice opened up to try and better dry it out? Then I was thinking of leaving it for a few days and eventually connecting it to my Mac to power it up and hopefully quickly access my photos - what do you think? I am just concerned if I take it straight to my service provider before at least trying this, the data is as good as gone - going off all of the insurance claim disclaimers regarding loss of data during repair!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Nano through the washing machine

MY nanon went through the washing machine. The wheel is non-responsive and the screen keeps flipping through different screens. Does warranty cover this?

    Does warranty cover this?
No. It's almost inconceivable that it will work again and Apple will never agree to replace it free of charge under the warranty.
Your house insurance might cover it though??
