IPod's buttons won't work

I was trying to listen to my iPod but it won't let me scroll or use the center button for anything. I've tried resetting/restarting and it didn't work. Any advice?

time to get it serviced: http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/ or take it by your nearest Apple Store and make a Genius Bar appointment.

  • Ipod power button won't work

As of late, my power button is acting weird.  Either when you press the power button it won't turn on.. or it will.. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't..
To get it to turn off if the power button won't work, I'll just drain the battery.  Anybody know anything to help?

That's a hardware problem.  Apple doesn't repair it.  If there is no sign of abuse (don't try to fix it yourself), they replace it with a refurbished unit.  The fixed-price for non-warranty replacements can be found here.

  • Ipod video - buttons won't work

I opened the ipod video wrong to replace battery- top opened instead of bottom part way. Closed it and opened bottom as supposed to do. Replaced battery. Battery charged and first menu comes up but buttons don't work. Tried re-setting but buttons still don't work.

  • Confusing Ipod Issue, buttons won't work

I have a 5th gen 30 gig ipod video. Recently (meaning just a few days ago) my ipod died a little. I know that it still has battery power, because I am able to hook it onto the computer and see it charge and connect.
My problem is this: The buttons don't work. The only thing on my ipod that's working is my hold slide. Apart from that, the buttons do not work AT ALL. I've been trying to reset it, but i can hold the menu and center button for a whole minute and it will not work at all. the clicker wheel does absolutely nothing, as does the other buttons. The ipod is working, as far as i can tell, just not the buttons. I'm honestly confused as to what i can do. Anybody out there that can help me?

Did you try performing a RESTORE on it while plugged in to the computer and seen by iTunes?

  • IPod shuffle buttons won't work

I just recently purchased a 1st generation iPod Shuffle on ebay and it came in today. Everything works great except the buttons on the front don't work at all. I can't get the volume to change and I am also unable to get the skip button or the pause play button to work. is there any way to remedy this problem or am I going to have to send the iPod back to the eBay seller?
I tried to hold the pause play button for 3 seconds to make sure that the buttons were not disabled but that didn't make a difference at all
    any suggestions would be great

  • IPod nano gen 4 forward button won't work, and the hold switch won't either.  I've tried restoring it and it didn't fix the problem. Any suggestions?

The forward button won't work and the hold switch doesn't either.  I tried restoring it, but that didn't work.

Restore to factory settings.new iPod if you have not yet already. If still problem time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Menu and Pause buttons won't work on iPod classic.

I've had the iPod for a while, long enough that my warranty is over. My problem with the pause button started a few months ago, it would go in spurts of working fine and working on and off. In the past few weeks the menu button has started to not work as well. As of yesterday they have both completely stopped working. I've tried restoring it to factory settings, syncing it over and over, and resetting it (which I can't do now because my menu button won't work). Does anyone have any suggestions? Or is it time for me to get a new iPod...

It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's clickwheel, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damage part for a little less.  Google "iPod repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

    Try:

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings

  • Play/pause button won't work

    Ipod Classic 80Gb
    Play/pause button won't work 9/10 times.
Any idea on how to fix that?

Besides resetting the iPod, have you attempted restoring it? You can do that by clicking the "Restore" button on the the iPod's Summary page in iTunes.
Assuming that doesn't work, you can check your [warranty status|https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do] to see if you are still covered for hardware repair. I doubt any 30GB iPods are still under warranty, since they were discontinued over two years ago, but you said you got it in March 2009 - did you purchase it used?
Whether it's under warranty or not, you can always make a Genius Bar appointment at your closest Apple Store and see if they have any other suggestions, free of charge. If it's a hardware problem, they can replace the iPod for you, but there would be a charge to do so if you're out of warranty.

I forgot my password and am trying to reset my ipod, but it won't work.It says that my ipod is in recovery mode and that I must restore it. I click ok, and then click on restore and update. Then it says connecting ipod software update server and a screen pops up with ipod software update on the top and iOS 5.1. It lists a bunch of stuff this update contains and on the bottom it says next, which I click and nothing happens, it just goes back to the ipod restore page. Help, what am I doing wrong?

This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

I have just brought a new ipod and it won't work with my old imac as it is running pre 10.5 software. I can't upgrade the software, so what should I do?

There is nothing to do, unless you buy a new computer.
Mac OS 10.5.8 or later is required.

  • Vertical scrolling with TrackPoint's middle button won't work on MS Word

    Question:
I have a T42 ThinkPad and the vertical scrolling with TrackPoint's middle button won't work on MS Word and therefore not in my email either. Big pain in butt as I'm so used to using it. Are there any patches that fix that? Any ideas on why it won't work?

It's really weird. My suggestion would be that you install the most up-to-date driver by direct downloading or via System Update (if you haven't updated the driver).
