IPod's Frozen, but I've tried all suggestions posted in other threads

After using this first gen iPod nano since around the time of it's debut, it's served me well enough. Well, I guess that doesn't count the terrible experiences I've had with iTunes and other iFaggotry, but we're trying to be optimistic here, so I'll just cut to the chase.
Today, while listening to music, the iPod simply stopped working. Of course, I just held the center and menu buttons to reset it, and this did nothing for about ten tries, then it finally rebooted. The battery was charged about 75% of the way, so it shouldn't have been a power issue, but I plugged it in anyway.
So I'm sitting at my computer playing games (iPod's still plugged up, has been for a while at this point) when I decide I feel like listening to music. Lo and behold, this iCrap is indefinitely frozen. I unplug it, ensure that the hold switch is set to the white position, and press the menu and center buttons. Nothing happens. I did it a few more times, each time toggling the hold switch, and it's not doing a thing. It's basically a paperweight, albeit a light one, and about this, I'm ******. This was an expensive device, and I expect my money to not be wasted. Is there any thing whatsoever I could try to get this thing back to working condition?
Oh, and while proofreading that, I just tried to reset it again, and I heard a single faint popping noise after about six seconds of holding the buttons. I'm not quite sure if that came from the can of soda beside me, or the iPod, and I surely don't want to think it was an electrical pop, but it sure sounded like one. I hope that helps with a solution.
If it is simply broken beyond repair, I can't contact support and have it serviced or replaced due to it being a little old, and this saddens me. Apple should take better care of their customers when they're investing so much of their hard earned money into such a trivial device, or at least extend the warranty a little.

It comes in and out of it's coma every few hours, pretty randomly though.
I've tried restoring it, it didn't help.
When it goes back into frozen mode, it's usually right in the middle of a song, and the song will start to garble and cut out, and I'll hear crackling coming through the headphones. It takes usually two or three attempts at a reset to simply clear the screen. Then, after letting it sit for a while, it'll reset just like normal.
The battery's fully charged.
I wish they would just replace it for free though. They didn't replace the headphones that broke within a month. I'll probably go with a different company when I have to buy a new one, which sadly, is most likely going to be very soon. Sure is a terrible turn of events, and I can't say I trust Apple with my purchases anymore, though I guess one defective product among many is unavoidable.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

  • 80GB Ipod Won't turn on ,,,period tried all of the tips

I got an 80 GB classic I guess rounded back kind of thick case not as thick as my past 120 GBs or my 60s though.
This thing will not boot at all, was working fine then one day all went dark.
I don't think it is in a coma because I tried all of the tips and tricks let it set for 2 weeks no power, let it set for a week solid on a wall charger.
Tried new and used Ipod Ipad Iphone sync cables. Tried all kinds of Ipod Ipad Iphone chargers wall car docking stations Ipod intergrated jambox and all.
all of the chargers and cables work fine for syncing Ipads Iphones and used to work fine with this Ipod for quite a while.
So with all of th obvious trouble shooting steps being taken and I would not have posted if I hadn't already tried them.
    So now the questions,
    1. Which version of Ipod do I have? it just says 80GB on the back.
         It is a video Ipod
The bottom corners are rounded and it has a pretty large screen.
It is in no way nearly as thick as my 160 GB was.
    2. Is this a SSD HDD or a mechanical one?
    3. If I need to buy a battery what is the max mAh that you can get for this model.
    4. If the HDD is bad then what should I replace it with,
    5. I can get another 80GB -160GB for 75-150 is it even worth messing with if a HDD is bad?
    6. Which would it most likely be, This thing makes ZERO sound ZERO activity.
Please don't waste both of our times telling me to reboot recharge or reset, I have been waiting on this thing for 3 months now,, I have done it all besides cracking the case open. I am very techincal,, so I am not scred of a techincal answer.
I just have an issue with a 250 dollar brick !!!!!!!!!! 250 in my world should last 10 years if all of this apple engineering is what every one says it is cracked up to be, but again they do sell them at walmart.

The battery may be bad. If it works ONLY while plugged into ANY power adaptor, then it IS the battery.

my ipod was frozen, but now it has an x on the screen. What can i do about it?

See here: iPod Displays a Red "X" Icon
Note that the fatal red X is often a clear indication that your iPod's HD is shot and in need of replacement. You'll need to take or send your iPod in for repair either through Apple or a third party service.

  • Real problem tried all suggested methods none worked

Ok my problem is that my iPod has a sad face and shuts itself off. Not only that but when connected to charge it just sits there with the charging thing not moving. Also computer won't recognize ipod at all, as if it doesnt exist. when i try to put it into disk mode it just waits a while and shuts off. doesnt go into disk mode just shuts off. when i connect it for updater it doesnt sense ipod at all and i have waited hours before posting this. i have tried all suggestions on support line but the problem is how do i restore when the comp wont read it. i would highly appreciate help because i really dont want to pay 59.95 for extra warranty and 30 for repair. i dont know if this helps but it is a replacement iPod. also another note i did not charge iPod for several (about 10) days.
    PLEASE HELP
    Dell 8300   Windows XP

The Sad iPods icon, clicking sound or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
There are also some cases being reported that some unrecognized iPod being able to be erased with Linux, then reconnect the iPod with the original computer and do a Restore there.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
    10. Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
    11. Put your iPod in disk mode and plug with a computer, and have a boot of your computer using the Mac OS or XP startup disks, hope that your iPod will be seen on Mac's Disk utility and allow you to do a Erase there. Or, under the XP, you will be able to find your iPod there for you to do a Restore.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

Yes. Reinstall iTunes. If that is the point at which you stopped trying the support suggestions then it makes sense to me, that you move on to the next suggestion and if reinstalling iTunes is the next suggestion, so be it.
However ....  I too have issues that arise out of the blue with my iPad being recognized in iTunes and what I always do and it eventually works is to quit iTunes, restart my MacBook, and reboot my iPad.
Rebooting the iPad is the last thing that I do and only if I have no success with quitting iTunes and restarting the Mac. It may take a few tries to work, but if you are that dead set against reinstalling iTunes, then give it a try.

I have bee using firefox for many years and seemed to have lost it. I downloaded again about 5 times, have tried all suggestions in the forums nothing worked. The only thing is I tried to recover my Profile default fold and it is missing. What can I do? I miss using firefox and would like you back

    Hello All.
I've been using Firefox for a long time with a great pleasure of course. I've got today the same problem as you: my profile can't be loaded, missing or inaccessible. I tried all solutions but it was not OK.
Finally, as yesterday I've played with hiddens files in my home directory, I noticed that my "/home/myuser/.cache" was marked with a little padlock: it was access protected. So I just execute:
    '''sudo chown myuser /home/myuser/.cache -R '''
and now Firefox is working fine.
I hope this way will be useful for you
    Thanks

I tried all suggestions fo a grayed out wifi toggle and nothing seems to be working. Any other suggestions?

I had this problem last month.  I ended up having to get a new iPhone 4S.  It's a very, very common problem and in my opinion it should be covered by Apple for free since it is so popular and is an obvious hardware defect especially in the iPhone 4S.
So I suggest you order a new iPhone ($230 with no warranty) ($50 with Apple Care+).  And while you wait for your new iPhone to come you could back up your iPhone and try some of the YouTube fixs.  I put mine in a plastic bag (off with no air in the bag) in the freezer for 30 minutes, pulled it out, turned it back on, let the iPhone thaw out in the bag, and it then worked again for over a week before it died again.  But I would only try that if you knew you had a new iPhone on the way.  My cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth all went out so I had nothing to lose.

  • Ghost Excel workbook opens each time I start excel and prevents formulas - tried all suggested solutions without luck

    Hi
When I start excel and open any workbook a 'ghost' work book opens it doesn't contain cells and is just greyed out. When I am working on a document whenever I start to write a formula the ghost wbook opens and I cannot see the original document to complete
the formula. If I open multiple workbooks I sometimes get a ghost workbook for each doc that is open - after a while I get error message to say not enough reources to do even simple tasks like save work or open a document.
I have posted on several forums and tried all suggested solutions without luck - this is really preventing me from using excel which I need daily. Personally though I am only intermediate user I think it may have something to do with a workbook that I downloaded
that had macros in it but I cant be sure
    Any help greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
First make sure have installed the latest update. Second, we can repair Office 2013 from Control Panel > Programs and Features. Third, open Excel 2013 in safe mode, if it works fine, disable some 3rd-party application add-ins.
Could you please share a screenshot of this “ghost” workbook and upload it to OneDrive? I’ll analyze it in detail as soon as accessing it.
If there is anything about this issue, don’t hesitate to tell me.
    Best regards,

A PowerPC Mac, if that's what it is, won't be able to see an Intel Mac's formatted data.  Also ExFat formatting is not supported by 10.6.3 or earlier.  I would try viewing the backup on another Intel Mac with at least 10.6.4.  If it isn't there, then the backup never really took place.  I much profer a hard drive with Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • Regarding Firefox 4 does not ask to save tabs and windows on exit even after trying all suggestions

After installing Firefox 4, Firefox would no longer ask to save tabs and windows on exit. Even after trying all suggestions to resolve the problem, the problem continued. Under the corrupted files suggestion to rename two files, that also did not help. The original file names would be recreated automatically, so both file name versions would exist in that folder. NOTHING resolves the problem.
Unfortunately, since that is a very desirable feature I, like other people who do not like Firefox 4, have gone back to an earlier version of Firefox.

It isn't the installation of the Adobe Download Assistant which can cause this problem it is where you select to download the install files too.  The Adobe Download Assistant would be installed to your Program Files/Applications folder and install files would be downloaded to your user folder, by default, or your desktop.
Alternately you can intitate a direct download by following the steps listed at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369.
