Ipod says gb used when no songs on ipod

I am very frusterated that my ipod says 1.9 GB used when actually there are no songs on the ipod. This is reducing the amount of space to about 2GB. I tried resetting and restoring already, and it does not help. Any suggestions?

PC crashes when transferring songs to ipod or using itunes..

1) Issue: When transferring songs to IPOD through the use of a PC(itunes or real player), a blue faulty screen will eventually show with some error and then my computer restarts. I have a bout 3800 songs for a 20GB IPOD and it seems to always stop around 4G when transferring. I tried using the IPOD on another computer and it seems to be fine.
2) Also, when I play music using iTunes, it causes the PC to crash as well, without the IPOD connected.
During the error report, it usually says there is an error with the Hard Drive(Western Digital 250 SATA 2 hard drive; hard to use a jumper to adjust to the SATA 1 settings of this motherboards) and it couldn’t’ read it for a second. It advises to to a ScanDisk?CHKDSK run, but when I do this(during reboot), it stops in STEP 4 out of 5 at 20-30% and does nothing. Did this for 1 day! Other error reports supposedly report a faulty device driver error and advise to update drivers, but I’ve updates Apple iTunes.
Contacted Hard Drive manufacturer, Western Digital, and they believe it is a controller device driver issue or something related. Tried updating the bios. Tried installing the VIA 4 for 1 drivers and other drivers in the Motherboards Installation CD. Running a Disk Tools before Microsoft even shows itself, reports no errors. However, when you are partially booted and the computer is scheduled to check the disk, there are errors(won’t move.) I see no update for controller device drivers
A3) lso, if I have a USB hard drive connected to the PC(such as an IPOD or external usb hard drive), sometimes the computer switches boot devices(hard drives) and thinks that the IPOD/External Hard drive is the boot device. This is also reflected in the BIOS and the USB connected hard drive replaces my main SATA hard drive(western digital) and my computer doesn’t completely reboot unless I go under the BIOS and change it. It’s weird because I DO NOT CHANGE THE BIOS. For some reason, it changes on its own.
I have no idea what’s going on. Please Help Me.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I transfer a folder of songs to my itunes library and i choose to transfer them all and only a few get transfered and then the error message comes up.

that is odd! that should not be happening.
Are you syncing your songs right off of itunes itself? because it should be syncing over to the ipod however it is listed in itunes.

Why does my Ipod say its charging when it isn't reseaving any power?

I read every article on the support part of the apple website and nothing could help me. My Ipod touch is a 3rd generation and has 32 gigs, if thats relavent at all. So, my Ipod has a picture of a dead battery with a lightning bolt on it, and it only shows when its charging. The apple support said that picture means that the Ipod is charging, but is so dead that it cannot function, and to let it charge for 30 minutes and it should be better. It sat on a wall charger (a usb outlet that is plugged into the wall) for 3 days now and theres been no progress. So why does my Ipod say its charging when it isn't reseaving any power?
I've tried 2 wall chargers, and tried connenting it to all three of my computers, and tried about 4 differant charger cords. On all of them the Ipod says its charging, but it isn't getting any charge. So I don't believe its a severed power cord. I have also reset it a few times, and it won't show the apple sign, only the same battery/lightning picture.

It could also be the charging circuit in the iPod. The Genius Bar is free. You could try to replace the battery yourself but that may not fix it.

My Ipod says to use the Ipod software updater application??

I unplugged my Ipod and all the songs got deleted. This is the 3rd time this has happened and now when I plug it in to put the music back on, a box pops up and says "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod MICHELLE'S (that's my iPod). I have moved all my songs onto a new external hard drive but it has wiped my iPod clean. Although when I connect my iPod it's starts teh process of sync'ing - so many songs in I get a pop up advising the siong could not be read or written to?

I have moved all my itunes onto a new external hard drive to free up space. It has wiped my ipod clean! I can still see the itunes on the new hard drive so I restored my iPod and tried to sync. Although when I connect my iPod it's in the process of syncing, so many songs in I get a pop up saying could not copy to my iPod as xyz song title could not be read or written. I click ok for this pop up to dissapear and then another pop up appears saying could not coyp to iPod because of unknown error.!!! Help I'm going crazy.

Did you go into iTunes to change the location of your media files? if not you will need to go into iTunes and click on preference and select the advance tab then click the iTunes Media folder location. Select the location of your on external hard drive.

ITunes 7 gives error message when playing songs off ipod

Whenever I connect my ipod to my computer and use itunes to play songs from it...it gives me the following message whenever a song plays.
"iPod is in use and cannot be updated. The required file is in use."
Does anyone know why this would be happening? I have my iPod set on manual update and I have already installed and run the new iPod update so I have no idea why this is happening.

IPod says to use iTunes to restore but keeps going into disk mode.

So whenever I reset my iPod, a screen pops up that says to use iTunes to restore it but when I plug the iPod into the computer, it goes into disk mode and iTunes doesn't read it.

Already tried another USB port, still nothing.
I don't have another PC to check, I only have one which is the one not working with my iPod.
It appears under my Computer, just not under iTunes. Plus, the iPod classic troubleshooting assistant doesn't work because I can't restore since it can't come up onto my iTunes! Even my iPod says "Use iTunes to Restore" once in a while, but I plug it in & I'm not able to restore it since it won't come up under iTunes.

VERY Slow Respons When Changing Songs on iPod

My work computer is a Windows Vista machine, with Vista, SP 2 installed. I installed iTunes 8.2.0.23 this morning, upgrading from version 8.1.1.10. The new version works well when I play songs stored to the library on my hard drive, but I find that it has a VERY slow response when changing songs that I play from my iPod Touch. At one point, it took 17 seconds to change to the next song in the iPod's library. It changes instantaneously when I play songs from the library stored on my HDD. The iPod Software is version 2.2.1.
Can someone please offer insight?
Is there a way to download and install iTunes 8.1.1.10? I had no problems with that version.

60GB Photo Ipod - Saying nearly full when empty!

Hi - New to Ipod and have just got the 60Gb Photo. Connected via Firewire as I've heard about the USB/Windows problems. Gone to the settings ahd it states that I have only 17.8GB available and I ain't put anyhing on it yet!!

My iPod used to work like a dream, then it started giving me problems recently. the other day, all of my music and photos were deleted, when i went to go and sync up, i had to reset my iPod, then it said the my iPod only had 16 GB's of free space. Can iPod display Genre info. when a song is playing?

If so, how?
Right now iPod dispalays Title, Artist and Album.
I really need the Genre information to show up, and was trying to see if there is a way to control what gets displayed when a song is playing.

The only way to do it would be to add it to the song or artist entry.

A playlist that I update on my ipod won't update when I connect my ipod to itunes

I have been using my Ipod Touch 3rd generation to create playlists. The playlists show up fine and play on the ipod, but when I connect the ipod to itunes, and click on the playlist, it does not reflect the changes made on the ipod. I have the ipod set to manually manage, so when I disconnect the ipod the songs are still on the ipod, but why won't they show up on itunes?
I also deleted some tv shows off of the ipod by way of itunes, but when i disconnected the ipod, they were still listed on the ipod, although they would not play. So somehow, my itunes and ipod are not communicating with eachother. Any ideas/fixes?
