Ipod says that another user is using itunes

When i connect my new ipod to my computer, it says something like another user on this computer is unsing the ipod software. im the only one on this computer with an ipod so i uninstalled then reinstalled and i want to register my ipod to itunes but it won't work. What should i do?

After a visit to the apple store, they were able to get through my pass code but unfortunately I found out that is was a problem with the logic board. Since Apple only wants to sell and not fix, I was able to locate an iphone repair near me that deals with logic boards and they are currently working on it right now. i should be getting it back soon. Im not sure if the problem you are experiencing is the same as i went through but it does sound like it may be also a hardware issue and would suggest searching online for an iphone repair place that can diagnose what exactly is wrong. A message comes up saying that another user has to log out

ok i have windows XP and my mom is the administraitor. and so i installed iTunes under her name because it wouldnt let me on mine. so it was okay installing but when ever i log into my name and my moms name it says that another user on the computer is using my ipods sofware and that they need to logout..but i dont know what it means by logout. and how do i do it?ugh im really frustrated. all i want to do is listen to my new ipod nano but itunes has to be so dang complicated.please help me

My ipod says "connect to your computer. use itunes to restore."
So I plug it into the computer and itunes says it needs to restore, so I click restore, everything seems to go fine, and it says the ipod needs to restart, it does, has a lil progress bar go across the ipod screen, then itunes detects the ipod again and says it needs to be restored again. This is an endless loop, anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

Ipod says that files are being used by another application...please help!

My ipod lost all of my music but tells me that there is apparently still the same amount of memory used, i just can't access my music. To fix this, i'm trying to restore my ipod and just resync the music. However, every time i click restore i get the message "Itunes can not restore Ipod because it contains files in use by another application" even though there are no other applications running. I've ever tried restarting the computer to be sure that no applications are running. Please help!

I had the same issue with my new iPod 4gb nano. To be perfectly honest, I fixed it and I'm not exactly sure what part of the process actually did the job, so I'm going to attempt to explain it as best I can.
Basically I bought the nano to replace my 160gb classic aka paperweight. I'm currently deployed and the thought of traveling back to the US without a portable music player made me shudder. Within 4 days new nano click wheel decided to do the whole dying thing where I could click the buttons but not scroll through my music/change volume. I took the defunct iPod back to the BX and they exchanged it. I got home and discovered the "new" one they gave me was actually one that had been returned..because it popped up as "josh's ipod" when I plugged it in. So I'm on my third device and you can imagine when my computer informed me said device was corrupt and couldn't be read by my computer..I was pretty peeved. It took 7 or 8 tries to get the new nano update to install on my slow connection and when it finally did..I got the message that the files were in use by another application and couldn't be restored. I restarted the computer, made sure all other applications were shut down, checked my virus software. No dice. I ejected the ipod from my computer, plugged it back in and went into itunes preferences and clicked on "reset sync history". I think at this point it then treated the iPod as if it had never been plugged into my computer before. I then attempted the restore again, it did its thing and I now have a nice, new functioning iPod.

You obviousley have multiple accounts on your computer. One of these accounts is using iTunes. Check to see through task manager (CTRLALTDEL) That there isn't 2 iTunes tasks running. If so then end one of them.

I'm not sure what this means, or what consequences it could have. Also recently our internet usage also spiked- and we've not changed our internet habits, could this have something to do with it? I have no idea about any of this kind of thing, should I be worried?

Is your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) the only router in your network configuration? That is, is it connected directly (by Ethernet) to an Internet Broadband modem OR to another router upstream of it? Regardless, what it the make & model of the device that it is connected to in order for it to gain Internet access?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

Sync your iPhone to iTunes, and see if that does the trick. Also you could try a Soft Reset with no Risk to Data. Holding down both the Sleep button and the Home button until the Apple logo appears and then waiting for the Reset to bring you iPhone back to the lock screen. Are you trying to add the email at Settings>Messages>Send and Receive from (2 Addresses) your iPhone number and your email address?

It's not designed to work like this. When you sync, the iPod stores some information that basically says 'this iPod belongs to computer xyz'. Apple did this to prevent copyright issues (syncing someone else's music).
If you really want to do this, you'll have to at least tie both iTunes installations to the same account. Maybe have them sync with each other.
