  • IPod is not recognized by Windows Vista - possible solution

During the past couple of weeks that I faced this problem I found out that a lot of people had the same question as I did.
    Here is a possible solution.
I have HP Pavilion laptop with Windows Vista. After I connected my new iPod – it didn’t show up in My Computer as a new device and in Device Manager it was listed in “Other devices” with a question mark next to it. I already had iTunes installed – it didn’t show up in iTunes. On the attempt to reinstall the driver I had a message that the driver was found but an error occurred while installing it.
    Here is what I did:
    1. Install iTunes (it has iPod driver for Vista in it).
    2. Turn on iPod and connect it to computer.
    3. Restart computer with iPod turned on and connected to computer.
    4. On the start up the computer will begin automatically installing the driver and the message will appear in the corner that new device is being installed.
    5. After it has been installed – check My Computer – you should see it listed there.
    6. Run iTunes and configure iPod.
iTunes might run a little bit slow when configuring iPod for the first time.
    Good luck.

if only this fix worked for windows xp or even 2000 (at my job)
insane, but it IS a driver/usb problem i now know, at least i've gotten that far.

  • IPod 4gen iOS 6 bottom touch screen bug

So a few days ago I finally decided to make the switch to iOS 6 for my iPod Touch 4.
Everything was fine until yesterday, the bottom of my screen was becoming unresponsive
to my fingers. I have never had a problem with this and I take very good care of my
electronics. Now i've looked over the internet for people who could be experiencing this
problem, but nobody has had it. I hope it's not a hardware problem because I don't think
I ready to throw down $300+ on an iPod Touch 5 for something I bought last year.
So really I a just asking if anyone is having this problem, and maybe there is a way to
recalibrate the screen. I have tried downgrading, but that as only available for the iOS 6
beta. Thanks. This is my first post on this forum, so I'm not sure if I will get a responce.
The red area is the area that I can't press.
(image I found on google, edited.)

Yeah man I have the same problem just started my phone will bring the drop down out when I touch the bottom of the screen it does things on its own and is really not cool and to boot it's not charging right all after ios 6

  • Video distortion at bottom of screen

I have just completed my first attempt at creating a DVD with Premiere Elements 9 but somehow I eneded up with a small line of video distortion that extends all the way across the bottom of the screen.  It's only about an 1/8" line but it appears throughout the entire video.   Does anyone know how to get rid of that?

Hi, marchetti.ken. PRE has its own forum, and you'll usually get better, faster answers to questions about that program there:

  • VHS to DVD through ADVC 110 - Distortion at bottom of screen & more ?s

Hi everyone, I've searched through most of the discussions, which have helped a lot, but haven't had any luck finding a few answers. So here we go.
I am converting about 20 hrs of old home movies to dvd. I want to edit out a lot of the boring scenes so I plan on using iMovie 06. I bought an ADVC 110 to convert the analog to digital (I have been using RCA cables for video but it doesn't give the greatest video quality so I am going to try an S-video cable) and I run it into iMovie 06.
1-When I watch it in iMovie there is some distortion at the very bottom of the video and I'm not really sure what to do about it. I've heard of people having this problem before, but I'm not sure how they resolved it.
2-When I have clips in iMovie, where are those files saved on my computer?
3-I plan on making multiple dvds in iDVD. Is there any suggestions on the best way to do this. If I import in DV format and edit in DV format (in iMovie) how long, or how large, can I make the videos before I import them into iDVD so that they will fit on a DVD?
4-Do you have any other recommendations to make before I dive in?
    Thanks everyone for your help!

First of all you have got the right equipment for the job - exactly the same as mine, and I had 60+ hours worth to convert!
Make sure that playback from the VHS is as good as it can get: clean the heads, and run the tapes on fast forward/rewind to remove any 'stickyness' before you start to copy.
Make sure you have enough spare capacity on your hard disk. DV streams run at 13GB per hour, and iMovie uses a lot of swap files. Don't even start this unless you a minimum of 25GB free!
If your VHS has an S-video output socket, well and good, as not many have. That only covers the video, so you will still need the RCA cables (white and red) for the audio.
The Canopus does of course have to be connected to your Mac by firewire.
    1. That distortion is the timeline on the VHS video, which you never see on your TV. Once you have it all on DVD you probably won't see it on your TV either. iMovie reveals more of the actual video frame than a TV does.
    2. Save the imported video in 5 minute clips, or your project file will bloat as you start editing. The clips (video) are stored within the iMovie project folder, the one in your Movies Folder with a star on it. When you come to editing SAVE THE PROJECT OFTEN - every two or three edits.
    3. When you have finished editing (and try to keep each project to under 90 minutes, although 60 minutes will give the best quality) save the project and close iMovie. Open iDVD and start a new project. From the File menu in iDVD choose Import/Video. That opens the Movie Folder and you can select the project you want to work on.
When you have done what you want to do in iDVD (Theme, Titles, Chapters, Transitions etc) save the project, then 'save as Disk Image'. Why? Because rendering the video, particularly the audio, takes ages, and you only want to do it once. You can actually burn to a DVD from the disk image, so if you want more than one copy you don't have to wait for it to render each time. Also, you can play the disk image in DVD Player to check everything is OK and therefore not waste a DVD.
Post back with your next set of questions - if you are new to this there will be more!
Personal advice: experiment with a short 15-30 minute project, just to get the hang of it and build up a workflow you are comfortable with, then just go for it!

  • MacBook Pro "15 2011 model has started crashing. Symptoms: screen distortion/images fragmenting/blue screening. Help!

    Hi everyone!
I currently own a Macbook Pro '15, 4gb that was purchased in early 2011 running Snow Leopard (my version is currently 10.6.8). For under the past 3 year it has been heavily reliable, and I have not ran in to any software, or hardware issues. However, over the past 3 or so months I have been having issues.
During May 2014 through to present date I have started experiencing screen glitches. It first began with image distortion, causing the whole system to crash, which would mean I would have to turn it off and reboot the system. Later this turned into a series of screen blurring (consisting of images fragmenting all over the place) and then finally followed with 2 weeks of blue screening on start up, meaning that I could not get into my log user unless I entered safe mode. I should also mention that I have no third party issues.
After doing some considerable research on apple forums I did what had to be done. In the last two weeks I have wiped my MacBook Pro, re-installed the OS and considered that it was now a process of elimination. For the first week the software seemed to been running smoothly, I wasn't having any failings until I hit the second week – of course, the glitches began all over again and I faced two in the space of a half hour (first my screen split into two during listening to music on spotify with no other applications open in the background, shortly after rebooting I faced a much worse case of my Mac completely dark blue screening with white lines.)
Now, once again, it only works 'well' on safe mode. I did a check in both modes. Left my computer idle with no programmes running for a half hour and the same thing happened with the screen, went black for a moment, moved the mouse and I received a fragmented screen again. I'm completely fed up at this point, considering I have the bare minimal amount on my Mac, I honestly can't fathom how it's come to this.
Now considering my model is not even three years old at this stage you can fully understand my frustration since I heavily rely on my laptop for educational purposes, which is making it very difficult to be able to concentrate on any of my studies. If anything, it is causing a great deal of stress. With my product being out of warranty I don't have an obscene amount of money to pay for a new one. When I already paid roughly £1,699 for the product in the first place.
The worst thing is, I've even done a EtreCheck, this was yesterday (the most recent/last time it was in use)

I've had a look to book an appointment at the Genius Bar, but would you believe it, there are no available appointments at my local store! I really would appreciate if anyone could offer any assistance in how to lodge a formal complaint? My days rely on being able to do my work, so whilst I have tried to book a reservation I am at a loss, and pretty much screwed having a Mac that I clearly cannot use functionally.
If anyone can provide any help, I'd be absolutely most grateful!

I have done what you suggested. However, I have to disagree with you about the 'third party' comment. Although those minor issues were on there which I picked up on shortly afterwards, they were easily removed. It hasn't CHANGED the symptoms I described about my mac. Both items are removed (growl only tends to make your mac 'lag' and that's not the problem I'm having)
I am still having all the above issues, regardless of my mac being fully minus third party items. This mac hasn't had any heavy use, or had many applications installed on it ect, there is really no reason for it to be failing. I'd understand if it was old, but it's literally only just passed being 3 years old.
If you can provide any more help that would be appreciated, thank you!

  • Part of screen not working - bottom of screen not registering.....

    Hi all,
The screeen on my 3GS is completely un-responsive at the very bottom of the screen - for about half a centimetre from the bottom ( near the home button).  As a result I can't, for example, swap from letters to numbers on the keyboard when it comes up (that is the bottom button) etc etc.   When I press on that section, it tends to 'register' on a space higher above, on the next 'key' up, when using the keyboard.
It seems the register is all out.
I have tried opeing maps and checking each corner and using the keypad on the calculator ( to see where it won't work) but to no avail.
I have done a shutdown, a re-start, a restore from archive and now a restore as a new phone, and nothing has chnged the situation.  Except for the fact that I now can't even set up my phone, as in the set up process I need to be able to use the buttons at the bottom of the screen ( eg agreeing to the T&C's as well as using the keypad ( and swapping to numbers) to link into wi fi etc.  And yep, this area is stll not registering hence I can't move forward in the new phone set up process....
So in short I am stuck.
Any thought people?  Any of you got any clever ideas to help me out?
Thanks in advance for your info.

did you get a answer to this question my iphone 4s is doing exactly the same things jus updated it but cant sign in cuz i cant get any numbers up when im typiing!!!

  • IPOD detected by Windows but NOT iTunes – possible solution

I have a new 30GB Video IPOD with an AMD PC running Windows XP SP2 and like many others posting on this site, my iTunes stopped recognizing my IPOD. ITunes did work correctly immediately after my initial software installation and I was able to sync some music, but it failed thereafter and I was unable to add any more files. Like many other users, I tried all suggested fixes including the 5R’s, uninstalling and re-installing the software, changing selective start-up items using “MSCONFIG”, etc. Nothing worked – until I tried the following…
    1) Uninstall iTunes & IPOD updater software using Windows Add/Remove Software tool in the Start/Settings menu
    2) Reboot Windows
    3) Connect IPOD to USB port (Windows should detect the IPOD)
    4) Run the original IPOD CD installation disk, load the IPOD Updater software (but not iTunes …yet)
    5) The IPOD Updater software loads first, so when prompted to load iTunes, wait (you may minimize the window), go into the IPOD Updater software (Start/Programs menu) and open the IPOD Updater window by clicking on the icon. If your system works like mine, the IPOD should now be recognized and the “RESTORE” button should now be available. Don’t click the “RESTORE” button – just leave this window open (minimize the window if you wish) and go back to the iTunes install window.
    6) Continue with the installation of the iTunes software.
    7) Once installed try opening the iTunes program to see if IPOD is detected (at this point it still didn’t work for me)
    8) With the IPOD still connected, and the IPOD updater window still open, go to Add/Remove Software (Start/Settings) and click on “remove” iTunes – you’ll be prompted to “Repair” or “Remove”. Choose REPAIR. Once this process is complete, try opening iTunes again – at this point my computer now recognized the IPOD

i could do everything fine up until step 6), the installation of itunes. when i tried to, with the ipod updater window still open, it said it could not continue without closing the updater program. any suggestions?

  • Powerbook G4 Screen Distortion...please help me fix

Hey all. This is my first post on this forum, because I haven't owned a Mac since 2009. But I come to this board often to troubleshoot when I am helping my friends/family with their Macs (yeah, i'm the 'computer guy'). Anyway, I now have a Mac that was given to me by a family member that has a very specific problem that I hope someone will be able to help me fix.
It's a 2004 Powerbook G4 (A1046). It turns on, and I hear the chime, but the whole screen is distorted. It's weird because the screen flickers to a normal light blue screen for a second when it changes from the boot screen (with the spinning wheel) to the login screen, but then it remains distorted and I can barely make out anything on the screen. The computer works otherwise.
Here's a link to my Youtube video showing exactly what is happening. http://youtu.be/Ce7bTYFKrdE (around 0:56 is where you can really see the distortion most clearly).
I tried to see if it was a problem with the OS, but since I don't have an OS X install disc, I tried running a live CD of Linux (PowerPC version). I was able to run the live CD, but the distortion remained throughout. I also tried connecting it to my external monitor, but the same distortion appeared across both monitors.
Any possible causes for this you guys can think of, or possible solutions, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Those are rather classic symptoms of video hardware failure. However, quite a few G4 PowerBooks and G5 iMacs whose serials numbers began with W8 experienced actual display screen failures.
Both are bad because so many used parts now offered as repair parts were scavenged from defective computers.
A test to sort whether the video hardware (not worth fixing) or the display unit (maybe worth fixing if you can get parts) is at play, connect an external  monitor. If the video defects reappear on the external monitor, the video hardware is shot and it is time to bid the computer a fond farewell. The video hardware is part of the logic board and replacement boards are scare can can cost as much as a used working Powerbook.
If the problem does not appear on the external, the video hardware is fine but the display unit is bad. You will still be looking for a hard-to-find part. However, one could continue using the computer as a desktop model with the external monitor,
PowerBooks are not easy to service at home. How clever are you with computers and small fiddly bits?

I have problem with my Iphone 5, when I talk my ear allways tuch the screen and get it on no sound, the screen are not lock, is ti possible to lock the screen when incomming an outgoing call going on

    Hello Mogulman46,
So what that means is when you have Do Not Disturb turned on, you may have an alert depending on the setting and how you are using your iPhone. So if it is set to Always, then that means that no matter what, your iPhone will not be notified. If it set to Only while the iPhone is locked, then that means that you will not get notification when your iPhone is locked but you will get notifications if your iPhone is being used. Also keep in mind the settings All Calls From can be set to certain contacts like Favorites, Everyone or no one. If you are using Do Not Disturb and you do not need it, then turn it off.
Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

firefox covers the whole screen so I can not see other programs opened at the bottom of screen

It is possible that the screen is too high and that the status bar and scroll bar fall off at the bottom.
Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.<br />
If that works then close Firefox to save that setting.

bottom of application workspace is below bottom of screen, how can I get back to bottom of workspace?

Your iPod app is the music app on your iPad in versions earlier than iOS 5. You are supposed to have that app in the dock on the iPad. Your "browser launcher" is the Safari app. If you can't find it, swipe from screen to screen and look for it.
Also check Settings>General>Restrictions. If you restrict Safari in the settings, the app icon will disappear.
You can also reset the home screen layout and the icon will reappear - but the home screen will return to the way that it looked when you first activated your iPad.
