  • Ipod nano: do not disconnect, ipod screen on itunes locked

My ipod nano was working fine originally but now, the ipod screen on itunes has a little padlock by the remaining disk space bar and all of my music is not available to click on which means it wont let me delete anything. I would be grateful if anybody could point me in the direction to fixing this. Thanks

In iTunes preferences, iPod section, do you have iTunes currently set to automatically update the nano's music playlists when connected?
This setting will cause iTunes to 'lock' the iPod in the way that you are seeing as it is managing the iPod's contents for you and does not expect you to delete stuff yourself. Selecting the manual update option in iTunes / iPod preferences will remove the 'lock' - just depends on your preference as to how automated you want the iTunes / iPod synchronisation to be.

  • IPod screen frozen, tried various steps at resetting it.

My iPod has randomly frozen on a particular song today, refusing to allow me to press anything to sort it out. I've tried the whole "menu and centre button" thing to sort it out, with no success. Tried plugging it into the computer, which does nothing and iTunes no longer recognises its presence. What do I do? I've only had the iPod for a short while and it's already playing silly buggers with me.

    See this.
    How to reset the iPod.
It may take quite a few attempts and is best done connected to power.
If this doesn't work, try restoring the iPod to factory settings.
Put the iPod into disk mode first.

Restoring erases the iPod hard drive, so you will need to reload your songs from iTunes.

  • Ipod screen frozen

Hi, I have a brand new ipod 30 gb. it has been working fine until i enabled disk use and tried to put a rtf file onto my ipod. i did this and i connected my ipod with my laptop a second time and then when i disconnected, the screen was frozen on "do not disconnect" and now when i connect the usb it doesnt recognize it on my laptop at all. any ideas anyone? is there a way of resetting the ipod or something like that? thanks!

What it sounds like here is the reason the do not disconnect icon is still being displayed on your screen is usually a indication that it was unplugged to while it was transfering data or without being ejected the proper way. What you can do though is try resetting the ipod first which with your model ipod is by holding the select button (the center button for those that dont know) and the menu button for 6-10 seconds then the apple logo will appear and your ipod will reset

  • IPOD screen froze, Itunes won't open

Help! With no warning, my 10-yr olds 2nd generation touch screen froze and wouldn't slide to open. Tried to reset it by turning off until I got the apple to appear, then the sync with Itunes icon. When i connect it to my computer, a msg comes up in Itunes that the IPod is password protected and I have to use the password on the ipod to get the itunes account to open. Can't sync, can't slide open her ipod, can't turn off. What can i do??

Thanks. Did that, it opens Itunes, but comes up with the msg "Could not connect to ITUNES because it is locked with a password. Must enter password on IPOD before it can be used with ITUNES. any ideas?

  • Ipod Screen Frozen... HELP!!!

I was walking on my treadmill tonight and I tried to play a song... now my Ipod is stuck on the "Now Playing" Screen and won't respond to anything!! The blue icon in the top left says it's playing but the song is at 0:00 and it isn't doing anything. It's got a full battery and was working just fine moments before.
Please help me... it's my baby!! I've tried everything - switching HOLD on and off, resetting it, and plugging it in to my computer -- nothing works.

*I'm sick of the 5 R's answer to everything.*
Actually, the "5 Rs" does correct many problems. Further, many posters describe their problem with the claim "I've done everything" when they really haven't. It doesn't make sense to go to heavy-duty investigation when the basics have no been performed.

  • Ipod works but itunes says its corrupted...

the ipod won't mount on the desktop either...anyone recommend software that will maybe get it to mount so i can at least pull off the music? or software that will repair it without erasing all the music first?

Have you tried putting it into disk mode (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651) and then see if it can be seen in Finder or iTunes.

  • Why won't my iPod work on iTunes or my computer?  It shows up (not on iTunes) and the iPod shows connected but it has to be "formatted." And why are half my songs unable to play on it anymore?  It just skips them!

I've read through several discussions and I've seen a lot of similar issues but none that were quite like mine.  Every time I plug my 3rd gen. iPod nano in it shows it connected on the iPod screen and iTunes opens up but the device does not show up in iTunes.  The icon on the iPod shows connected and gives the arrows circling showing syncing even though it still says connected.  But it won’t show up in iTunes.  It shows up on my windows computer but I can’t click it or make it do anything.  It keeps saying “You need to format the disk before you can do anything.”  And when I hit cancel it beeps and says "Location not available.  Dara error (cyclic redundancy check)."  As if I know what that means!!  And I have 800 songs on it but they aren’t all on my computer and some are on my parents’ computer but I can’t get to that one.  It shows it is a “FAT32” which I have no clue what that means but I’ve never noticed that before.
Windows "can't access the disk" and I don't know why.  It gives me that notification if I try to check the drive or disk or device for problems.  And if you click it on Windows it pops up a screen with formatting things (which I don't know anything about).  And then it closes and says that it CANNOT format the device.
The iPod works almost okay when it isn’t plugged in, but I’ve noticed that half my songs won’t play.  You click on it and it plays the next one in the album.  And it isn’t always the first song in an album but random songs.  And songs I listen to a lot.  You can’t go back (you can only go forward and you can’t skip over the ‘missing’ song) or even click to select those songs.  But other songs play normal, just not half of them that are on the iPod but all of a sudden no longer work.  And I don’t know why.  I have another 3rd gen. iPod nano that doesn’t have ANY of these problems.  It hooks up, it doesn’t need formatting, and all its songs play.  I don’t know what is wrong or what to do.  I’ve tried re-downloading iTunes and everything.  I don’t want to have to reset my iPod and lose everything.
I’ve tried locating the device in iTunes and it shows the iPod but it gives this weird symbol and I can’t select it.  It’s like a white box with a box that is outlined in blue with six random icons in the middle.   I’ve seen it before and it always means something is wrong or a file (which is where I have seen it before) is corrupted.  And like I said I have a second iPod nano of the same generation and it does not give this weird symbol.  Plus it connects just fine.  It’s this one iPod.
I don’t understand what is going on.  It worked just fine and then all of a sudden I noticed songs wouldn’t play so I went to plug it into iTunes and nothing has worked.  I’ve searched discussions and none of the tips help.  But I want my songs to play again and I want my iPod back.

  • IPod settigs in iTunes

What are the best settings to update playlists, hard disc on or off? Manual or not? Someone who is hapy with their settings please advise and tellme what your goal is in updating so I can copy your idea. I am getting confused with it all at times. Hope this is not too global of a question.

When you plug your iPod in, let iTunes detect it and change the "automatically update iPod" to manual. According to me that is the best possible setting one can have, because if it is on "automatically update iPod" and if you plug your iPod into a friends computer to get music it will take all your friends music as well...and you probably may not like a few of his/her music. So it is advisable to have it on "manual". About the playlists...i am not sure what you mean. Hope I've helped. Merry Christmas.
    Neven.
