IPod screen frozen, tried various steps at resetting it.

My iPod has randomly frozen on a particular song today, refusing to allow me to press anything to sort it out. I've tried the whole "menu and centre button" thing to sort it out, with no success. Tried plugging it into the computer, which does nothing and iTunes no longer recognises its presence. What do I do? I've only had the iPod for a short while and it's already playing silly buggers with me.

See this.
How to reset the iPod.
It may take quite a few attempts and is best done connected to power.
If this doesn't work, try restoring the iPod to factory settings.
Put the iPod into disk mode first.

Restoring erases the iPod hard drive, so you will need to reload your songs from iTunes.

  • I installed the latest iTunes update. Now iTunes won't recognize my iPod. I tried every step in the trouble-shooting list and nothing works. Apple wants to charge me $35 just to ask them a question. What should i do?

I have tried every step in the trouble-shooting list, and nothing helps. What should I do?

I am having this same issue.  I have avoided updating it for months and now that I finally did this is what happens!!  My Ipod goes into charge mode, but then as soon as iTunes opens up to sync it says it knows there is an ipod connected but does not recognize it and it will stop charging and just go to the main screen that comes up when you turn ipod on.  I even tried Uninstalling and reinstalling like it says and that doesn't work.  When I uninstall it, it will let my ipod charge when I connect it to computer.  But as soon as I install iTunes again and try to connect it, it tells me the same thing.  Now I know why I never update to newer versions, so angry right now.  Apple needs to fix this problem cause I've had my ipod for less than a year!!

  • Ipod screen frozen

Hi, I have a brand new ipod 30 gb. it has been working fine until i enabled disk use and tried to put a rtf file onto my ipod. i did this and i connected my ipod with my laptop a second time and then when i disconnected, the screen was frozen on "do not disconnect" and now when i connect the usb it doesnt recognize it on my laptop at all. any ideas anyone? is there a way of resetting the ipod or something like that? thanks!

What it sounds like here is the reason the do not disconnect icon is still being displayed on your screen is usually a indication that it was unplugged to while it was transfering data or without being ejected the proper way. What you can do though is try resetting the ipod first which with your model ipod is by holding the select button (the center button for those that dont know) and the menu button for 6-10 seconds then the apple logo will appear and your ipod will reset

  • Ipod Screen Frozen... HELP!!!

I was walking on my treadmill tonight and I tried to play a song... now my Ipod is stuck on the "Now Playing" Screen and won't respond to anything!! The blue icon in the top left says it's playing but the song is at 0:00 and it isn't doing anything. It's got a full battery and was working just fine moments before.
Please help me... it's my baby!! I've tried everything - switching HOLD on and off, resetting it, and plugging it in to my computer -- nothing works.

*I'm sick of the 5 R's answer to everything.*
Actually, the "5 Rs" does correct many problems. Further, many posters describe their problem with the claim "I've done everything" when they really haven't. It doesn't make sense to go to heavy-duty investigation when the basics have no been performed.

  • Help! my ipod has frozen & will not respond to reset

I cannot get my ipod to repond to anything, I have just installed the latest version of itunes plus quicktime & when I connected to my PC the do not disconnect appeared on the screen but windows & itunes does not see the ipod, I tried resetting it in the troubleshoot & nothing works, it is stuck with the do not disconnect sighn on the screen, I cannot turn it off.

I am having the same problem with both my 60g and my sisters 20 classic iPods. Both iPods are showing the frowning iPod with the following: www.apple.com/support/ipod. I have tried to reset, I have tried to get the iPod to go to disk mode, this worked once on both, but then they both go back to the stupid sad iPod! This is frustrating, because I can't get either of the iPods to be recognized in the iTunes either. Nothing wrong with iTunes, because the video nano appears in the iTunes! Help!! Someone, please help us fix this!!!

  • N85 is slow - tried various kinds of resets

My N85 is ridiciously slow, I've tried *#7370# and *#7780#. Doesn't solve my problem.
Apparently there is a third way to reset the phone, holding down *, 3 and the green button while booting up - but my phone prompts for the pin-code, and I can't both hold down these three keys and type in the pin-code.
All in all it's a frustrating situation, I'm quite surprised that it's such a hassle to reset the phone
Anybody know how to go about this?

that is mighty strange. the phone should do it. you tried the 3 finger salute right. this you do with the phone turned OFF and this still does not work???? that is really strange as thsi should work it does not need a working phone a dead one will do
     1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345
    2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)
    3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
hard reset - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. )
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.

  • Ipod touch frozen tried everything nothing works i tried holding both buttons usually when it freezes its frozen until it dies but now when it dies and i go to recharge it its still frozen its brand new what to do?

i really dont want to bring it back to apple and end up losing everything on it especially my game

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPod.
There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.

  • Bottom of my ipod screen won't respond, so i reset factory settings as suggested, it didn't help and now i can't log in to itunes as my apple id password has numbers in it

few issues here. firstly, the bottom section of my ipod touch 4th gen won't respond. it'll let me slide to unlock but not tap anything, including to change between keyboards which brings me onto my second problem. i did a factory reset because a few people on here had suggested it, but now i can't log into my apple account because my password has numbers in. is there a way to bypass this requirement? or fix my ipod? i can't afford a replacement

jeez guys thanks for the help!

  • IPod Touch Troubles: Tried Various Fix Methods and None Work

Well anyways, when I first bought my iPod Touch there was a problem regarding this, but was resolved in a matter of hours. Now the same problem cam back, and keeps coming back every day. Onto the problem. Now sometimes when I try to turn my iPod on, it won't turn on and the only way to get it working is to put it into recovery mode. While in recovery mode there is no way to restore or update my iPod (even after entering DFU mode) the only way to get it working from this point is to let the iPod "cool-down" by a long term of inactivity and hoping for the best when I press the power button. Another problem with it is that sometimes while using the iPod it freezes up on a song, or while I'm using the touch screen to navigate. The freeze sometimes displays a blank white screen and this also forces me into putting the iPod into restore mode and the only temporary fix is the one I mentioned earlier. Sometimes it even freezes when I connect/disconnect it from the computer. So DFU mode restore doesn't seem to work when I can actually get it to restore and so doesn't regular. The iPod itself isn't jailbroken or hacked or anything, just having major bugs. Now I bought the iPod at around December at a Target and I'm still looking for the receipt. Is there anything I can do to solve these problems, or Apple could do about them? (My next bet was bringing it up to the Apple Store and hoping they could do something) Please respond, and thanks for the help.

It's time to have your iPod serviced.
You can set up an appointment with a Mac Genius (http://apple.com/retail) or call AppleCare.

  • I was charging my ipod on my bose dock and my ipod screen is frozen and im trying to turn it off my nothing is working.

    my ipod screen is frozen....

    Hello ayesham007,
What happens when you tried a reset?  To do this, press and hold both the Select and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  Don't be afraid to try this procedure more than once if no luck the first time.
If that doens't help, you may need to wait for your iPod's battery to drain.
