Ipod screen problems

when i take my ipod (5gen, 80gb) into the car, the screen starts to black out..
what i mean by this is that parts of the screen go black similar to as if the screen was fogging up.
i'm pretty sure it's heat related (it's now summer in australia, and we're getting 30+ degrees).. but i keep my car cool. i've certainly never parked my car in the sun and left my ipod inside.
anyways my ipod is still under warranty -- so i'm wondering what i should do about this or if it's normal.. nothing like this ever happened with my other ipod (4gen 60gb).
any suggestions would be much appreciated,
cheers.

Yes, that is not normal.. It should be covered.

  • HELP!! iPod screen problem!

Hi, my brothers iPod screen recently got messed up! About half of his screen is whitish. I dont know what happened or what to do Can anyone please help?!?!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Revived Wet iPod Screen Problem

    Hey All!
I'm happy to declare, after one week of air drying in the ICU, my 3rd Gen iPod works! There was an incident with a bottle of red wine and a bag full of stuff. My girlfriend's iPod Touch, suffice it to say, was perfectly fine.
When it happened, I made sure the hold switch was on. We wiped and shook and blew etc. At one point, the screen started flashing and the 4 buttons were lighting up as well. The iPod was still in hold position. Very worrisome! Got home, pried it open and dried it off and let it sit until now.
    THE PROBLEM:
It works! There is some visible red wine (damage?) underneath the screen. It looks like it's wet under there. The screen works, however it goes blank seemingly randomly. The backlight is still on but there is no menus etc. Is this loose wiring? Permanent red wine damage? Can I do anything to fix this? Thanks for any and all feedback.

If you get a pair of the plastic pry-open tools (they come with replacement batteries), you should open the iPod. That will help dry it out better. There are some very small socket type connectors that you may want to unplug and inspect. If you have the type of screw driver with the tip that looks like a six-point star, you can remove the logic board and clean off any wine stains on the display. The hardest part of disassembling an iPod is getting the case opened; once you figure out how to do that, the rest is straightforward.
Hint: Start at the top of the case (there are no clips there along the seam) and work around the top right corner and down the right side. Don't yank it open on the left side because there is a delicate ribbon cable there (easy to break). Open it from the right side, like a book. When you snap it back together, make sure the HOLD switch is aligned.
    Here's a helpful guide.

  • IPOD SCREEN PROBLEM

When I play a song the display that shows the name of the song and artist is messed up. It shows the name of the artist and name of the song twice and the second set of text is overlapping and off centered from the first set of text. I didn't drop the iPOD or anything it just started doing this. Anyone out there have any idea what is causing this? Thanks.

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen Screen Problems

I have only been using my nano 5G for less than a month and I'm facing screen problems. Two horizontal lines appear about one centimeter from the bottom of the screen similar the where the older nano 4G screen borders. Anyone else faced this same problem? I really hate to have to put all my music back after getting it repaired.

When you reinstalled iTunes 8, did you use it on one of the newer 5th gen ipod Nanos, or a previous model ipod?
From all I'm reading everywhere, this new iTunes 9 is a real mess! I'm planning on re-installing back to
iTunes 8 soon ... I can't stand the slow speed and crappy user interface Apple did on this latest version. It looks like a bunch of high school kids put iTunes 9 together, definitely not an Apple quality
    product.

  • IPod Touch Screen Problems

I understand some of the early iPod Touch screens had terrible screen problems. I have purchased an iPod Touch as a Christmas gift. I fear it may have screen problems. Can anyone out there tell me if Touches with serial numbers:
    1A737XXXX
are ok or not? Should I try to exchange this before Christmas to avoid a big disappointment??
It is past the 14 day return/exchange date so I'd have to get special permission from the store to exchange it, obviously. But if the screen is bad on Christmas day they will have to exchange it anyway. What do you all think?
    Thanks!

yea usually those do have the problem but that depends on how picky u are with ur blacks. I still think that you should try it first and see how ur own preferences work. Otherwise, you would never be satisfied with an ipod always thinking that it will have this "disease" you have ever even experienced before.

  • Huge Ipod nano screen problem

I have a big problem with the iPod Nano screen. It just doesn't work. I have tried reseting the ipod, restoring it but it just doesn't work.
It is not a screen problem because when I plug it on to the PC the screen lightens up with just white on it.
I could listen to the song by "blindly" selecting Shuffle. But now I can't even do that.
I would REAALY appreaciate any help.

If you can get one sent or brought down to you, you can replace it yourself It is not that hard to do, or I am sure you can find someone to do it for you. I live in Mexico and it is hard to get parts to us, there is also no repair place close, but we have people come from the states every once and awhile and they bring us parts so we can repair our own. Go on ebay and you will find screens for under 15 dollars U.S. and it comes with the tools that you will need to open your nano. Hope this helps.

  • White screen problem (but iPod is somehow working)

    Hi,
I've got a white screen problem on my 60 GB 5th generation iPod Video here. When I turn on the iPod, the screen is bright white. The iPod is not recognized in iTunes, Mac or Windows. If I reset the iPod (menu + select for 5 seconds), the screen is switched off - no Apple logo or something and after a while, it's bright white again.
I'm also able to put it in disc mode (menu + select for 5 seconds, as soon as the screen is switched off, change to play/pause + select). The screen is not as bright as before and the iPod is recognized in iTunes and as removable drive now. Within iTunes I can for example sync some contents on it. But if I try to restore the iPod everthing is ok until restart - the iPod changes to bright white again and is not getting recognized in iTunes again.
I can activate diagnostic mode (menu + select for 5 seconds, as soon as the screen is switched off, change to rewind + select) - change in screen brightness and the iPod beeps.
I even installed (and removed) Rockbox - no errors.
Somehow I think that I have two problems:
The screen is somehow defect since it does not show anything. Wouldn't be any problem since I want to use the iPod in the car and it will be remote controlled. So I basically don't care about this.
On the other hand, I think it is not working properly because it was not successfully restored. I'm afraid that there are some kind of instructions on the screen (that I can't read) and that the restore-procedure is just not finshed. Is there anything that one has to do after iTunes tells me that the iPod is going to be restarted?
    Any other hints on this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ralph

Update: In the meantime, I even managed to (blindly) do a reset via diagnostic menu. So disc mode and diagnostic mode seem to work fine. Just normal mode doesn't ...

  • Ipod classic problems: screen and connecting to windows..PLEASE HELP ME!!

Ok, so I know many people have problems connecting their ipod classics to computers, it seems like it only happens to classics. But anyways, lately my ipod screen has also been doing weird stuff like cutting words in half..(example: instead of music it would show usic. etc.) Has this happened to anyone else? It has also erased some of my music, but luckily I was able to get it back. Does anyone know how to fix any of these problems?
    thanks!
    -krenny

I definetley think apple should work on that model, I've have friends who purchased a zune and haven't had problems with it at all since then. They did say it is difficult to find cases and car plugs, etc. for zunes though, I don't think I'd purchase one just because I like the way ipods work better ( controls, screen layout, etc.) but besides that I'd say they're pretty nice.
I just realized it was probably a bad idea to mention zunes on an Apple forum, but what the heck!

  • Problems with displaying pictures for albums on iPod screen

    Hello!
I have an iPod with 60gigs and since I've updated to software version 1.1 I couldn't display any new CD-covers on the iPod screen related to the album that is playing. Strange thing is that when I play the same song from the iPod in my iTunes, then the cover is shown in the bottom left corner of iTunes.
I had it working with the factory software version 1.0, those covers were still displayed with v1.1 but I simply can't add new covers.
Now I have updated my iTunes to v.6.0.4.2 and the iPod software to 1.1.1 and it still doesn't work. Additionally all the covers I have added while running with iPod Software version 1 are gone now...
Still, the previously added covers are being displayed in iTunes when I play a song from the iPod with my computer...but not on the screen of the iPod when I play it there...
Any Ideas? Thank you very much!

Have you tried the suggestions here?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300248
Incidentally, it would appear that you have the iPod 5th generation (iPod video) because you refer to software versions 1.0 and 1.1 and 1.1.1. Those are for the iPod video.
This is the forum for the older iPod that used to be known as the iPod photo. That particular model now has software version 1.2.1.
You need to be specific about which model you have, and if it is indeed the iPod video, then the correct forum is here.

Just need to clear that up. : )

  • Ipod 5th gen screen problem

    Hey guys..
I have an ipod 5th gen last month and i have issues about its screen. In the middle left part of my ipod screen, when i put little pressure on it. It actually moves and it is not in place.
I think that apple engineers used a more un reliable glue for the screen borders. What should i do to prevent it from happening again on the other side of the screen?

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and discuss it with them

  • IPod screen goes black & heats up when connecting to computer - pls help!!

I posted this same question on somebody else's post but thought id post it under a different subject so someone may be able to help.
Im having a problem with my 30GB ipod in that it works fine when just listening with head phones, on my docking station or via my car stereo yet not on computer. When i connect ipod to any computer the ipod screen fades out, goes black & then the ipod becomes quite hot (more near the left hand side of control wheel) and both computer & i-tunes does not recognise it?? Does anybody have any ideas or have had the same problem and fixed it? I pod is nearly 2.5yrs old. thanks

Have you tried a different USB port or a different USB docking cable? It is also possible that the part of the iPod that charges the battery is faulty, or perhaps the battery itself. If it's a 4th gen iPod, the battery is located under the click wheel, more to the left side than to the right. I don't have a 5th gen "video" iPod, but based on the guide here
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPod/iPod-5th-Generation-Video/95
the battery appears to be toward the top of the iPod.
FYI - Here's the guide for the 4th gen iPod.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPod/iPod-4th-Generation/93
Whatever the problem, it appears to be related to charging the battery.

You did install the latest iTunes (10.5) right?  If the problem was that iTunes does not see the iPod try:

  • [iPod 5G] Problems with Windows' iTunes keeping it synced.

I've been struggling to get my iPod 5G working on my windows computer. This is what happens EVERY time:
    - I connect my iPod, it gives me "Cannot read the content of the iPod XXX...."
    - I Restore my iPod (have also formatted it completely several times).
    - the iPod shows up in iTunes and it syncs.
    - I take the iPod out and i reconnect and it starts all over again and i get: "Cannot read the content of the iPod..."
Connecting the iPod to my MacBook will make it appear in iTunes and I'll be able to see the music and update it.
Things i've tried (in semi-random order, except for the last one):
    - Updated the iPod (1.2.1)
    - Restored the iPod about 10x
    - Different USB port and different iPod connection cable
    - Erased the iPod (3x): using Windows' format tool 1x and the Disk Utility in OS X 2x.
    - Uninstalled iTunes, Reinstalled.
    - Fresh install of Windows XP.
Could this be an iPod related problem? (it seems to work fine on my Mac)
Could this be an iTunes 7 related problem?
The iPod is brand-new, i got it after my old one had gotten a white screen that wouldn't go away. Could it be a faulty iPod they gave me?
P.S. Please don't suggest to 'just sync it with your mac' because it should work with the Windows computer that holds all my music.

    hi chris
    the difference is:
at home i've started it and it has been running 12 hrs without touching it
outside i've used it while running through the park five times, so i started and stopped it five times without touching it otherwise (didn't change songs)
do these five times starting/stopping waste 8,5 hrs battery runtime?
