IPod Scroll Wheel/Clicker Broken after Headphone jack replacement.

After loosing audio in 1 channel of my iPod Video I did some research and realized that I needed to replace the headphone jack/hold switch piece.
I ordered the piece online today, followed the online tutorials, put my iPod back together and now the scroll wheel and clicker doesn't work.
What do I do?

  • Ipod scroll or click wont respond

Ive got a 4th gen ipod had it for about a year never dropped it once or hit it off anything and just today the scroll wheel and click stopped responding the weird part is i can restart it with the buttons i just cant scroll through and non of the buttons are responsive it wont even light up when i press or scroll ive tried restoring it and it still wont work and its not on hold.

for anyone else with this problem first try pluging the cord in to connect to your computer and push it up tawords the face of the ipod and mess around with the scroll wheel to see if it works while still having it pushed up this seems to fix most problems because after about a year or so of constant scrolling and clicking it seems the wheel and buttons get pushed down and disconnect from the rest of the ipod next you may have to slide something in the slot when not in use with the computer to hold it in place now all i must go re download 3000 songs -_-thanks apple for making a scroll wheel that gives out before the hard disk does...

  • Housing is broken by headphone jack input

Hi there! I bought a 16gb iPod Nano (7th Gen) less than a year ago. This is the third iPod that I've owned and have never had an issue. Until this one. The housing by the headphone jack input has broken. Can anyone here give me insight on what I need to do to get it either replaced, or repaired? I still have the box, but I don't have the receipt.
Here's a picture of the housing.

    How did it happen?
Make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store. You don't need the receipt.

  • My scroll wheel click doesn't work anymore.

So, you know how you can open up something in a new tab in chromium by pushing the scroll wheel on your mouse in? Well, I used to be able to do that until recently and now it just flat out doesn't work.
Is this a hardware issue? My mouse is in fantastic shape and the scroll wheel works fine otherwise. I tried googling this but found some really old threads for xorg files that didn't exist or I don't know how to find.

X doesn't see you pushing it in. I'd check if it works in a different OS (e.g. Windows or Linux LIve CD).
Does the wheel move down when pressed? Maybe you could fix it by disassembling the mouse.

Stedman1 is right, can not be done. What made you think you could? Just curious.

  • Faulty Headphone Jack - Replacement?

So the headphone jack on my touch has stopped working (and it's out of warranty) - the pins in the jack have been knocked out of place, so cleaning doesn't help. I seem to remember the guy at the genius bar telling me, when I went in to have it looked at, that I could get a discount on a new model if i trade the old one in (presumably so that it can be refurbished and resold for almost pure profit, rather than offer me a repair service, but there's nothing I can do about that). Is this the case? If so, how much is the discount?

    Hello danjnk,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
If so, how much is the discount?
It's only a 10% discount. You might have better luck sending the iPod off to a third party repair site to do the repair job for you. You can find some pretty decent deals online. Just do a simple Google search for iPod repair and you should receive a plethora of sites that can assist you.
    Here is one such site.

  • Headphone Jack replacement?

I knocked my MBP off a low table and it landed on the headphone jack. The headphone plug didn't break off in the jack, but it did bend.  Now I'm only getting sound from one side no matter which headphones or speakers I use. Anyone have info on cost of jack replacement? Every post I read seems to only cover getting something stuck out of a jack, which isn't the case here. Thanks.

  • My scroll wheel got inverted after installing Lion

Does anyone know how to fix this? I used to scroll "down" on the wheel to go down; now if I scroll "down" the page goes up!
I know it wasn't like this before because everytime I scroll I tell myself, why is going in this direction?
Is there any way to fix this? I have a Logitech Perfromance MX mouse, but there is no customization to adjust scroll direction.

Here is the solution for Lion scroll reversal on all 3rd party mice. http://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/

  • Ver 4.0.1 for PC, why does my scroll wheel stop working after a while? Only happens with Firefox app.

Closing and relaunching solves problem for a while, but happens again after opening about 5 web pages.

  • Trackpad physical click broken after 10.8.5 update

Yesterday, I did the suggested 10.8.5 update on my one year old MacBook Pro Retina. Since the update, the physical click-action of my trackpad no longer works. I saw similar problems reported here before, but an OS-update can't thicken the battery? The battery reports no issues and works well as ever. I am far from any Apple store with Genius bar or Apple dealer, so what could I try to get the trackpad working again?
    Thanks!

  • IPod scroll wheel problems

Ok I have tried everything that I have read up on. SO far I have learned that my IPod that was bought used, is Mac formatted and I run PCs in my house. When I connect my IPod to my computer it shows the Apple symbol and does its thing but it does not download anything. If it comes down to it all I need is this install disc is there any way of getting a hold of this.
    Thanks
    Aaron

Thank you once again for your help, I have now tried it on a Mac and a PC and still I get nothing. When it connects it acts like it is doing something then it says now disconnect. The only one that shows a sign of working is USB. But I tried everything so far. IS there anything else I should try to make this work before I give up.

  • Time Machine user interface broken after PowerMac G5 replacement

My PowerMac G5 tower recently experienced a disaster. I was able to replace the unit with a very similar unit, and moved in my hard drive. It's working great.
I've been using an external hard drive for Time Machine backups.
I decided after moving in to the "new" G5 to hook up my external drive and do another incremental backup.
I received the error messages that are associated with a different motherboard - the backups are associated with the old logic board's MAC address.
Apparently there is a relatively easy way to fix this with Snow Leopard and later - a terminal command called tmutil.
    Not so in Leopard.
I found the following thread at Mac OS X Hints, and spent quite some time reading it: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20080128003716101
I felt somewhat intimidated by all the tinkering with extended attributes, and opted to use a link from the thread which lead me to a script that would automate the process.: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20081216145458979
I ran the script, it gave no error messages, and reported that the previous backups had been succesfully inherited to the new computer and Time Machine.
I can now run Time Machine, it does incremental backups, and if I boot the computer from my Leopard DVD, I can do a full restore to various points in time.
However, the Time Machine GUI application is "broken".  There is no past. The only time available is NOW, even though there have been 2 or 3 recent backups, and many before then.  There is no way to roll back in time, choose a file or folder and restore it.
Summary: Time Machine is creating backups, and the Leopard DVD  believes it could restore the whole hard drive with them. But the handy user interface is useless - for all users.
I am very close to doing a complete scorched earth reset and simply begin doing Time Machine all over again, just to get the user interface to work.
    Any suggestions?

Actually, not Snow Leopard.  It's on Lion and later.

Sounds like the hack is, well, like most, a faulty one.
It's barely possible it's somehow confused Time Machine into treating each backup as being on a separate drive, and only the most recent is connected.  You might be able to see the old ones via the procedure in #E3 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting, but that's not going to have the result you want.

    That's probably best.

  • My ipod nano's clicker wheel's play button is not workin

Please Help. I have no idea what happened to it. There has not been any damage.

I had the same issue with my iPod nano 4th generation. Tried all of the suggested fixes but nothing worked. After months of trying read and figure out what was wrong I stumbled across a possible fix.
This is partly a theory, but probably true in a lot of cases. I use my iPod nano a lot in a speaker dock. I  think over time using the speaker dock caused some kind of connection to become loose. I got the idea from someone else that when you connect the docking cable, as if you were going to sync your iPod and wiggle the cable at the connection back and forth until locating a place that allows the click wheel to work again. Start gently and push a little harder toward the front or toward the back. If this works then here is what I did to solve the problem.
Take a small flat head screw driver and gently pry the white cover away from the bottom of the iPod near the sync port and headphone jack. It is held in place by a type of rubber glue. I have a computer pry tool. I gently put insert the tool between the back case of the iPod and the where the sync cable attaches and pry it slightly enough to fit something in the space. I cut off a small piece of a paper clip (1/8'' or less). Needs to be small enough to fit and still apply enough pressure to allow the click wheel to work. After inserting I tested it to make sure it worked and sure enough it did. I carefully put a small amount of school stick glue on the white plate and put it back in place.
    Hope this works!

  • IPod nano scroll wheel doesn't scroll

I just got a nano, fresh from the packaging, for Christmas. It was purchased 9/1/06.
The buttons seem to work, but the "click wheel" doesn't work. It's impossible to scroll up or down by rolling my thumb along the circle.
    Help?

    Try these The Five Rs.
    And this.
iPod touch-wheel is unresponsive after waking from sleep.
