IPod Service Error (I posted on the wrong board last time)

Okay, I see a lot of people are having similar problems but mine seems to be very hard to fix and I'm very very frustrated. I've had my iPod mini since late March, so it's not that old.
First, I cannot update my iPod with new songs. It says there is no iPod connected. It only charges when I plug it in directly or on the dock. Second, I have iTunes 5.0, just so you know. Third, I cannot update my iPod software. When I try to use the latest iPod updater (and even my old one), the screen freezes, and then says "iPod Service Error". Can anybody help me? I've tried everything and am really upset. Thank you!

hiya!
I won't get a chance to try it until I get home tonight.
okay, i'd better give you some more references now then.
if you run into problems with the registry keys, with any luck some of the ideas in the ProgMan thread:

  • IPod service error - been through all the steps in tech articles

    Hi,
I bought an iPod nano for my wife (she uses Windows XP). She previously had installed iTunes on the computer (not sure which version) and it worked fine. We then used the CD to install the iPod software before trying to connect the nano for the first time. We've tried all the fixes suggested in article 93716, turned off virus software and reinstalled iTunes and the iPod software, all to no avail. When we open iTunes from the start menu with the iPod connected we get a message that says that the software to communicate with the iPod is not installed correctly and that we need to reinstall iTunes to install the iPod software. I suspect that having had iTunes previously installed on the machine before we installed the iPod software for the first time may have something to do with this. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

  • Spoof email - I put in the wrong place last time

I have been trying to confirm my bank account for a while. I tried again yesterday to get some help. Last night I got an e-mail from paypal saying that she was doing something to confirm my bank account and I would be notified within 72 hours. So, I was like .. great. Finally someone is helping me.      Then this morning, I got an e-mail from a bank claiming to associated with paypal. The link  in the e-mail redirected to a website that asks for very personal information. So, I closed it. Then I forwarded the e-mail to spoof @ paypal.com - they responded saying with the 'You're right!  This was a phishing attempt'' or whatever the exact words are.. So, I was nervous about that, and I was thinking.. How does the person who sent this phishing e-mail know that I'm trying to confirm my bank account with paypal? Or was it a coincidence? Then I let it go and forgot about it. Then I had a phone call, no voicemail was left and I had missed it. I googled the number and it was associated with paypal according to a bunch of people who aren't really reliable sources.  Then not long after the phone call, I got another e-mail from paypal (webform @ paypal.com)  saying that he had tried to call me to help me confirm my bank account, and I should call him back to set it up. I called, but in the meantime, I got suspicious because of the first e-mail/phishing attempt from that mornign - so while on hold on the phone, I forwarded that e-mail to spoof @ paypal.com to see if it checked out as legit. Seeing how I was calling these people to confirm my bank and I would probably have to give sensitive information. I got the e-mail back from spoof, and it said AGAIN that the new e-mail was a phishing attempt - the e-mail that told me to call the people I was on hold with right then. I replied to that e-mail from spoof @ paypal.com and I said: Are you sure? I'm on the phone waiting on hold for someone now. I really
need to get my bank account verified.. If this is a legit call then I
really need to do it. And I already gave the last 4 digits of my social
security number. This is the second e-mail that I've gotten saying it's
a phishing attempt. How did they get my number if it's a scam? They
called me first[later on, paypal replied to ^my reply and identified my reply as a phishing attempt, too... yeah.. seriously...] So, a customer service guy picked up the line, and I didn't know what to do at that point. I didn't know what to say to him, so I just tried to explain what had kind of happen and asked him to somehow verify that he is really from PayPal. It was going around in circles and I was trying to explain it to him.. like.. ''Yeah, the e-mail does look legit, but PayPal just told me that the e-mail that told me to call YOU is a scam attempt.. meaning you're the scammer.. Because the scam e-mail told me to call you.. and here we are.'' Basically..  he needed to confirm who I was before he could tell me anything and I needed to confirm who he was before I would tell him anything. He offered to forward me to the fraud department and I was like .. wait, but if you're a scammer then what good is the ''fraud department'' going to do for me? and he was like, if I'm a scammer then why would I connect you  to the fraud department.. and I was like anyone could claim to be the fraud department.. ya know?  Anyway..  I confirmed the piece of information that he wanted because that was going nowhere. and because the info wasn't something majorly sensitive.. so that he could then confirm to me who he was.. I guess.. So, after that, I asked him to confirm something from my paypal and he did. and he told me all the information on my PayPal account, and he knew everything. So I said okay, I believe you that you're PayPal. We went through the bank confirmation stuff - allthewhile I still feel weird about the whole thing, plus I feel like he thinks I'm a lunatic. But I still have this little voice going, ''But why did spoof @ paypal.com say that he's phishing..?'' and ''How could they possibly identify their own e-mail as a scam...?'' Then he said my bank account was confirmed, so I was like.. Ok, let me just look while you're on the phone with me and check to see that my bank account is confirmed on my PayPal account. Because if it wasn't, there would be a big problem. My bank account WAS confirmed - something I've been trying to do for like 6 months, so I was really happy. And that was that. But here I am.... still wondering.... what just happened...?????

Go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  This will only delete the account from the phone, not from iCloud.  The other person will not be effected by this.  Then set up the correct account on your phone.

  • IPod Service Error with iPod installer 2006-06-28

I previously had a Mini but lost it (stolen). I bought a Nano to replace it but could never get it to work. I returned this and purchased a new 30g iPod. Same issues. I get the error message "iPod Service Error" when I open the 2006-06-28 iPod Software Updater. I even get this message whether I have my iPod connected or not. In iTunes, I get the message "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
Well, I've reinstalled iTunes countless times and reinstalled the updater a equal number of times with no luck. I tried all the steps (including links) in:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
I also used msconfig with no luck. I disabled my Norton internet security and antivirus software with no success. I disabled the Fast User Switching and followed someone's advice regarding FAT32, but again no luck.
I tried to read through all the latest discussions and articles I could find, but am now getting confused. Is there anyone out there who has been able to tackle this problem? My alternative is returning my iPod and giving up on iTunes. Help me please!! Thanks.

Thanks for your response and sorry for the delay. I've been traveling. Yes, I did try making another XP user account and got the same results. I have not tried the installer cleanup. What do I do with this utility? I read the instructions from MS, but not sure if I should just highlight the iTunes, iPod, and QuickTime stuff on my PC. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Question sent to the wrong boards

    Hi,
There have been a number of questions posted into the wrong boards recently. ( I am not getting at any one).
    So here is the scenario:
You have entered the Forum, e.g. you have selected NI Discussion Forums, you can not post a question at this stage.
You have to actually select one one the boards.
So you have a Data Acquisition question. You choose Hardware because its a hardware related question and you select Multifunction DAQ because that seems to be the best fit.
Ok , now you select New Message and you follow the Steps, by firstly doing a search.
The results come back and either there are no results or the results do not answer your question.
So you post your question and you enter the screen that allows you to enter your question in full. When it enters this screen the, the boards is already pre-selected ie Multifunction DAQ, so you dont have to change this.
Question now entered and spell checked etc.. You select one of the check boxes so you get notified when some one posts an answer and Press the Submit Post. Then sit back and wait.
Your posts ends up in the TestStand Forums!!!!!
At what time in the process did you change the selected message board!!!!
Any thoughts any one, does the process need tweaking, or is it just "its been along day, you have been beating you head against the brick-wall and the problem wont go away".

    Ray and friends -
This is the first I have heard about the apparent epidemic of posting
to the wrong boards. From your description, it's so misleading and it
    must be incredibly frustrating!
I have made several test posts using different browsers and haven't
been able to reproduce this behavior yet.  My next approach will
be to tinker with the internet browser tools to see if they have an
impact on why the messages are being sent to the wrong boards.
Can you help me narrow it down at all any more?  If we can figure
out what makes the process repeatable, that will help us get to a
    solution faster.
We are already working with the forum developers on the repeated posts
problem.  We are continuously looking for examples to help prove
the size of the issue as well as have a hefty set of examples to work
    with.

  • HELP! iPod Service Error on Updater

I've already tried everything, including kznano's infamous set of instructions. But when I get to the iPod updater part, it shows "iPod service error", which means I can't restore my iPod nano. By the way, every time I reinstall the updaters, it says "Unable to delete iPod Service" Don't know if that will help, but thanks in advance.

    Restart the computer.
Put your iPod into disk mode.
Connect your iPod to your computer again.
See if your Updater works for your iPod.

  • I get that stupid ipod service error

you no that stupid ipod service error that you get when itunes is messed up and your ipod dosent update your songs well I got that

The following is taken from a thread a few lines down. This technique worked for me.
It was originally posted by Phrehnck:
The recent iTunes update seems to have left many users iTunes installation from correctly detecting and synchronizing with their iPods. This problem seems to occur when the iPodService files are not updated when iTunes is updated to version 5.
    Steps to resolve the problem:
    1) Click "Start" | "Run..." | type in "net stop ipodservice"
    | click "OK"
    2) Delete the folder "C:\Program Files\iPod\bin"
    3) Run the iTunesSetup.exe installer. It will probably prompt you to either "Repair" or "Remove" iTunes. Choose "Repair" and click on next or finish.
    Optional Step 4) Click "Start" | "Run..." | type in "C:\progra~1\iPod\bin\ipodservice.exe /service"
    | click "OK"
    Optional Step 5) Restart Computer
If these steps do no resolve the problem, please dont flame me=X
This is not a problem with Windows XP but with the iTunes installer=)

  • Won't show up on itunes or on ipod updater("ipod service error")

Every time i plug my ipod (4g w/ click wheel) it says on itunes software not installed correctly, it shows up as a drive but i can't see it on itunes, i have tried to reinstall itunes more than 5 times and nothing works. Also, when I try to restore my ipod with ipod updater i get an "ipod service error". I am going crazy here trying to figure this out, someone please help me!

Try this for can't mount iPod:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
You might also want to try putting your iPod in disk mode:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Sometimes this does the trick (iPod normally needs to be in disk mode in order for it to show up in Disk Management)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
If you're still unable to get your iPod to restore, you can try this:
Put the iPod into disk mode, according to the article above.
    Connect it to your computer.
    Click Start > Run
    Type compmgmt.msc
Click on Disk Management (in the left-hand column)
Let the computer go through its connection process
Right click on the iPod and click Format
    Set the format to FAT32
Leave all the other settings on their defaults
Do Not select the option to Quickformat
    Start the format.
It's recommended that you still try to restore the iPod after formatting, but it's not always necessary. This should get your iPod back into iTunes.

  • Updater ipod service error

we needed an update for our ipod video because it has an a folder with an exclamation mark. we followed the steps below that were found on www.apple.com/support
    Install the latest iPod Software.
After your download is finished, install the iPod Updater. Just launch the assistant and follow the on-screen instructions.
    Run the iPod Software
    Run the iPod Updater application
Connect your iPod to your computer and launch the iPod Updater. The iPod Updater will automatically determine if an update is required.
Once we plugged in the ipod and launched the updater it did not give us the option to restore the ipod it just said "ipod service error" and the only option was to click ok and still nothing is fixed, what do we do now?

  • Updater "ipod service error" and itunes "reinstall itunes"

I got my ipod exchanged just recently from a regular 20gb iPod to a color/photo ipod. I downloaded the newest iPod updater and the newest iTunes. I go into the updater program and a message comes up saying "iPod Service error". When i plugged in my unit to my computer, iTunes shows a message "the software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod software.
Here's the problem. I went to Apple's online help and went through all the possible solutions it had (reinstall iTunes, Disable conflicting system services and startup items, disable conflicting system services and startup items and reinstall, resintall the COM interface for the iPod service) and none of them worked.
What do i do? because I've spent the whole week trying to figure out what's going on. I've repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled both the updater and iTunes. Anyone have any answer to this?

It might be a total pain, but you might do best if you call Apple Support if you can... Hopefully you didn't get a bad 'Pod.

  • "iPod Service Error" plus other issues

Hi, I hope someone can help me.
My iPod is severely malfunctioning. Sometimes, when I turn it on, the screen pops up with a folder and exclamation point. Sometimes it pops up saying "Connect to iTunes to restore". And sometimes it works fine.
I am trying to connect it to iTunes to restore it, and I just installed the newest iTunes but iTunes doesn't recognize the iPod. Windows might or might not recognize the iPod. It recognizes something, but instead of naming that something as the name of my iPod as it usually does, the computer calls it "Removable Disk G". And when I try to update the iPod or restore it with the iPod Updater, a "iPod Service Error" pops up.
I have also noticed that instead of a color "Do not Disconnect" flashing sign on my connected iPod, I have a black-and-white and small Do Not Disconnect sign.
What do I do? Help! Thanks

  • Please Help.  Cannot Install Itunes 8.0.1..."Ipod Service" Error.

Can someone please help. I cannot update to Itunes 8.0.1. Ever since I first tried it has given me the "iPod Service" Error. Now it won't let me update my iPhone either. I have tried rebooting my PC and still no luck. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Below are the instructions to clean up iTunes installer from the apple website. It worked great for me at first. Now all the songs have ! next to them. Ugh. Any ideas?
Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer
You can download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from Microsoft, which will clean up any leftover installer files that may be causing issues with your current installation. To do this:
Click here first, and read the important information about the software.
Click the "Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now" link on that page to download a file titled msicuu2.exe.
Open the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install it.
On the Start menu, point to All Programs and then click Windows Install Cleanup; the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
Select iTunes from the list and click Remove.
Click OK in the confirmation dialog that appears.
Repeat steps 5 and 6 if you have multiple iTunes entries listed.
Select QuickTime from the list and click Remove.
Click OK in the confirmation dialog that appears.
Repeat steps 8 and 9 if you have multiple QuickTime entries listed.
    Click Exit.
    Restart the computer.
Install the latest version of iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download.
