  • IPod is corrupted and not recognized by iTunes

When I plug my iPod into my computer and open iTunes, it does not appear anywhere in iTunes. I have tried this on another computer too, but the same problem happens. Whenever I plug it in and open iTunes, an icon in the tray pops up saying that iTunes.exe is corrupt and unreadable. I have tried using an older Apple Updater, but it said something about it not being able to update the iPod. When I have my iPod on, everything works fine, but when I plug it into my computer it won't let me restore or sync my iPod. My question is: is there any way to restore my iPod without iTunes on a Windows computer?
My iPod has worked fine before, this is the first time that this has happened.

If you can see your iPod in my computer, right click
on it and reformat it (FAT32, not a quick format) and
    then Restore it in iTunes.
can u do this on any ipod? it will not showup on my computer..

  • IPhone backup is corrupted and not visible in ITunes. Can I recover the data on it?

    Hi,
I am a Win 7 user. I recently upgraded my iphone 4 from ios 4 to ios 5. It seems that the upgrade process deletes all the data and then it recovers it from ITunes or ICloud backup. I did have only one backup and it was on ITunes. However, during the backup process I had some kind of error telling me that the backup is corrupted or something like that. Unfortunately I didnt pay enough attention to the error in order to quote it here. What happenned next is that the IPhone was stuck on the Conect to ITunes screen even thou it was already connected. Every time I was connecting the Iphone to ITunes, it was syncing, but it kept being stuck on that Connect to ITunes screen. To resolve this, I tried the Restore from a backup option by right clicking on the Iphone in ITunes. There I had only one choice of backup which was with no date. This solved the Connect to ITunes problem and the IPhone was up and running.
The next problem was that once I configured the IPhone, I had no data on it - no pictures, no contacts, no anything apart programs I have downloaded previously from AppStore.
A friend of mine assisted me, and showed me where the backups are stored on win 7 systems:
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
My understanding is that you have as many backups as folders in the Backup folder above. I don't see however one of the folders in the ITunes Restore from Backup list. It is the largest and oldest folder - nearly 2GB. All the rest is like 30-40mb. I believe that any chance I may have to restore any information from my IPhone is by restoring this backup and being able to upload it to the IPhone or read it somehow. My friend discovered that the .plist files are missing in this folder. In particular 4 files: info.plist, manifest.mbdb, manifest.plist and status.plist.
We tried to cheat a bit by copying these files from one of the other backup folders. We also renamed some of the codes in one or two of the files, like the name of the folder, data and hour in info.plist. It didnt work. This folder remains unvisible by ITunes and therefore I cannot use it as backup.
Your help is much appreciated for finding a solution on that one,
    Peppy

If your backup is corrupted you cannot retrieve data from it.
I've been working on a tool that repairs most iPhone (iPad, iPod Touch) backups that iTunes reports as corrupted -- it seems to be working fairly well for people we've had using it lately! If someone stumbles on this post and wants to try it out, the program is Decipher Backup Repair, and you can try it here:
    http://deciphertools.com/download-decipher-backup-repair.html
As other people in the thread have mentioned, you can also try some third-party programs to read the backup and pull-out the important data so you at least have it in some capacity. We have one on the website I've linked above, in addition to the repair software.
I hope this helps someone who finds this thread! Dealing with iTunes backups can be really painful, and I know it's horribly depressing to wait through a restore to get the corrupted message after SEVERAL minutes.
(Note: As I mentioned, I work on the backup fixing software I linked to, so I stand to benefit, financially or otherwise, from the links I've provided.)

  • IPod touch 3rd gen stuck on white screen and not recognized in iTunes

So basically I dropped my iTouch in water, removed it and left in a bag of rice for 2 weeks and now the screen is a gray/white colorway and won't show up in iTunes. I've tried doing a hard reset but I can't see if that even works or has done anything. Does anybody have any ideas or solutions for me!?

Apple doesn't repair it.  If there is no sign of abuse, they replace it with a refurbished unit.  The fixed-price for non-warranty replacements can be found here.

  • Trying to use my iPod as a hard disk

The iTunes tutorial, under "Other ways to use your iPod," gives specific instructions for enabling "your iPod to work as a portable hard disk," but the instructions do not follow what I see on my screen ("Select your iPod in the iTunes Source list" is one of them (there is no such thing. "Click the Options button on the lower right corner..." isn't there, either). Can anyone please tell me how I can set up my 3G iPod as a hard disk so I can transfer music and podcast files there without going through iTunes, which is a program I find excessively intrusive? Thanks. --Fred Powledge.

Connect your iPod and when it shows in iTunes click on it's icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. In the Summary tab check the box "enable disk use" and click the Apply button in the right hand corner: Using your iPod as a storage drive

  • Transfering music from pc to mac using iPod as a hard disk drive

I just got MacBook Pro and iPod which I have formatted for a mac, however, I want to get the songs from my IBM thinkpad to my mac. I transfered a bunch of them with a friends external hard drive, but forgot about all my purchused songs from the music store. I am pretty sure there is a way to use the iPod as a hard disk drive but everytime i attach it to my thinkpad it asks if I want to format the iPod and then won't transfer. So I guess my question is can I do this and if I can do I have to format it to windows and then transfer the files to the iPod and will I be able to put the files from my thinkpad to my mac?
    thanks!!!

An iPod formatted for Mac won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. You can reformat your iPod on Windows if you want to use it on both platforms as Macs can read Windows formatting, then you could enable it for disk use on the PC: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • Using ipod as external hard disk between macbook and PC

    Hello
I have formatted my ipod mini to the mac, but I also have a PC at home which I want to transfer files to and from. Can the ipod still be used as an external hard disk between the macbook and the PC or is that not possible?
    Thanks

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. XPlay for instance gets good reviews and has the added functionality to let you copy your songs back to iTunes. MacDrive from the same company is not iPod specific it's for connecting any Mac formatted drives, if you want to use your iPod as a removable storage device it will work for that. You can get XPlay and MacDrive at these links:
    XPlay 2
    MacDrive
You can read another user's experience of using XPlay at this link: iPod on Mac and Windows

I replaced the hard drive to a 30gig on my Ipod 4th gen. click wheel but it is still not recognized on my computer or in itunes......I get an error message with a folder and "!"....what can I do to fix??

Have you recharge the battery for at least 2 hours, or just leave it connected for 4 hours?
(When you replaced the Hardisk, you should also replace the battery.)
Some other iPod SSD sites, says that you may have to format the CF in FAT32, as Mac dont read NTFS drive so if Windows is the 1st PC that your CF is connected, it may be formatted to NTFS.
You can try erasing the CF using Disk Utilty, so that Mac can recognise it. (but not Windows)
    Have a nice day!

  • Finder Preferences, hard disks cd's dvds, and ipods

    hello,
I am a little confused at this. In finder preferences under the general tab tere is a menu "show these items on the desktop" and selection is
    -hard disks
    -cd,s dvds, and ipods
    -connected servers
i have selected Hard disks, why isn't my external drive showing up? It actually will show up if I have selected cds dvds and ipods....just a little weird
i was wondering if anyone had any solutions. thanks.

The labelling for the second item isn't correct; what it actually does is to show or hide removable disks, which include external hard drives. Changing this setting alters the value of the ShowRemovableMediaOnDesktop key in the Finder's preferences.

Hi, what format is the external drive?
Well, in pure Apple File System talk... -36
    ioErr
    I/O error (bummers)
Not very helpful, but generally means a Drive quit being Readable or Writable since starting the operation...

    The other -36 is a Windows/SMB issue.

i am a OS10.7.4 user. yesterday i bought a Lacie external hard disk but error message appear said " You cant open the applicant LaCie setup assistant because PowerPC applicants are no longer support". please help me how to connect my mac with Lacie??

You do not need the Setup Assistant; in fact, you do not need any software on an external hard drive. I have two LaCie's; I erased the drive as soon as I plugged it in. You will need to format it anyway because most hard drives come Windows formatted. So, if you only want to use it with the Mac, highlight it in Disk Utility and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format and the GUID Partition scheme under Options. While doing that, it will erase the drive (and get rid of the LaCie software) - once finished, your drive is ready to use for Time Machine or any other backup plans you have for it.

For backing up bookmarks, see [[Backing up and restoring bookmarks]]
If you want to back up passwords, you need to use an extension such as Password Exporter. This is located at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848/ .

  • I am trying to add a hard disk but keep getting an error message to add null disk

I am trying to add a hard disk but keep getting an error message to add null disk. How do I fix this problem?

When installing a new OSX, it is not unusual that some applications will not work.  You have to check with the developer to see if they have upgraded to the new OSX or find a substitute application.
In regards to your new HDD, most of the time they come formatted for Windows, not Mac.  Connect the HDD to your MBP and open Disk Utility>Erase.  To make it compatible, select 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' as the format.  Click on the Erase button.  You then should be able to read and write to it.
    Ciao.
