IPod shows 'Charged' when unplugged 24x7??

This started a week or so ago. I noticed my battery was dead even though my ipod wasnt in use. After charging the battery to full I noticed the issue. When the screen 'powers off' I can see a faint 'Charged' with the battery picture. My guess is this is draining my battery with the screen being on.
I did a restore with ITunes and a manual reset but the same thing. Any ideas? If I go to Apple will they say I'm SOL for warranty?
Thanks guys

would restore (have reset and put into disk mode and didnt help)but ipod cuts off when unplugged from car charger even tho it says its fully charged. When I plug into computer like the updater/restorer tells me to. It doesnt recognize my ipod. Ipod doesnt bring up "do not disconect" message either. After a min or so the ipod will blink from the black screen with an apple in the middle to the screen with the sick ipod message with the ! and the apple support web site beneath it and then back to just a black screen.

  • IPod USB charging when iBook/Powerbook is sleeping

    Hello all.
We've got two iPods (a 5G and a 4G) and two portable Macs (PowerBook and iBook).
Here's the issue: when our computers are sleeping (ie. the lids are closed), but also plugged into the wall, we could charge our old 4G iPods using the FireWire cables.
Now that one of us has upgraded to a 5G (which doesn't sync through FireWire), and the other has switched to using the USB cable to sync/charge, we've noticed that the iPods don't charge through USB when the computers are asleep but plugged in.
Is this the experience that other iPod/Mac users are having? Is there a way to force the iPods to charge when the computers are sleeping AND powered, or do iBooks and Powerbooks need to be awake to charge an iPod through USB?
I understand why a sleeping iBook or Powerbook that's NOT plugged in wouldn't charge an iPod -- it doesn't with FireWire, after all. But a computer that IS plugged in? How inconvenient if I had to open my computer every time I'm trying to charge up the iPod!
    Please advise. Thanks.

Powering a device through the USB bus requires that the CPU on the host machine be active in order to arbitrate power for different devices and warn the operator if a device is drawing too much power from the bus. Since the CPU doesn't do anything while the computer is asleep, devices cannot be powered while the host is asleep. Power used by FireWire devices is drawn directly from the power supply and doesn't need any information from the CPU while the computer is plugged in. When on battery power, FireWire ports are shut off while the computer is asleep to save battery time.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • IPod Nano Freezes when unplugged with static type line on screen

I've seen a lot about the "white screen" but mine is slightly different. It's a 2nd gen, 4GB. When plugged in, everything works fine. Syncs up, plays music, etc. As soon as it's unplugged, it gets a static looking bar across the screen and everything freezes. If music was playing, it stops, no chance of getting the click wheel to do anything. I've tried the 5r's and have done restores in regular mode and forced disk mode (since I can get the click wheel to work while plugged in). I eject it properly and everything. I'm leaning towards battery issue. Any one got a fairly certain answer ? I'm a technician and can replace my own battery if need be, but I'm new to the iPod so I'm still learning symptoms and solutions here.

    I forgot the details:
※ The iPod has Software Update v1.1.3 and recently been restored using iTunes v8.2.1 with no problem during the update/restore process.
※ The iPod works normally; battery charged when connected to PC (USB), internal speaker produces clicks (when using the wheel), screen light works fine, all settings have no problem.
※ The grey horizontal line only appeared when the light goes on (white). If the light goes off (dim), there is no grey horizontal line visible on the screen.
※ The grey horizontal line appeared at a quarter part of the screen (from the bottom of the screen), on the lower part of the Apple icon.

  • IPod only charges when connect to the Mac

My iPod will only charge when connected to the Mac.  It will not charge on any other cable or docking station.  And, yes, I have tested the various cables and docking stations with other devices and the issue is clearly only with this one device.  I am note sure what generation the device is, but it is old enough that it cannot run iOS 7.  It is on iOS 6.1.5.
    Thanks

Then it seems that the other sources do not work satisfactorily. Do the other charging sources charge other devices?

  • Does my ipod touch charge when turned off!

Hi guys i got my 16g ipod touch in the uk after work tonight. A quick question, when connected to the computer does it continue to charge when i turn the power off on the touch? As nothing indicates on the screen that it is charging and it also disappears from itunes. cheers

Yeah I was wondering the same thing since my ipod for some reasons seems to charge really slowly. I'm about to burn my one support call and might end up sending it back as a defect. I've charged it while using my computer (so obviously it wasn't asleep), and it would creep up very slowly. Then I let it charge overnight on my laptop (8 hours) and it would go like 25% from about 25% battery. I tried recharging it from my iHome ipod dock and it would charge a bit faster, then sort of cap off at about 66-75% battery. I've tried turning sticking it i the iHome and turning it off and seemed to have no effect on the battery. I'm going to try it again tonight having it turned off while attached to my laptop. It will be my last attempt before calling Apple. I am really frustrated.

  • Ipod wont charge when connected by USB

My ipod doesn't charge when i connect via USB but will charge on Firewire..?? is this normal??

My ipod doesn't charge when i connect via USB but

I assume that you are referring to the ipod being plugged into your Mac when charging. The Mac cannot be in "sleep" mode if you want to charge the ipod by plugging into USB. However the Mac can be in "sleep" if you plug into the Firewire port. The reason is that the FireWire port is powered while the USB is not when the Mac is asleep.
BTW you can charge via the USB 1 and not just USB 2. I have a 4G ipod that will charge when connect to my older iBook (2002 model) that only has USB 1.

  • IPod showing music when plugged in on iTunes, but not when it's unplugged??

Earlier today when I was listening to songs on iTunes while my iPod was plugged in, my computer started freezing and then showed a blue screen and said to restart it. I unplugged my iPod by unlocking it, and after my computer restarted I plugged it in again and it synced like normal. Later when it was unplugged I noticed everything was gone but my apps. I don't know why it's doing this and I don't want to do anything because i'm scared that I will permanently ruin my iPod. If you know what I should do to fix this problem please tell me.

Sounds like when you blue screened windows corrupted your iTunes Music Library file...
When it came back up, apple loaded the .xml file that tells it about your library which was now smaller than prior and synced like normal. Then you didn't notice it until after the fact.
First question --Can you indeed still see all of your music in iTunes??? If not you need to rebuild the iTunes library... Just copy your iTunes folder to a backup copy.. Start iTunes.... Move your old "Music" subfolder in the iTUnes folder into the new folder on your HDD... Drag taht folder over iTunes and let it reindex
Second question -- If you get brave to resync again do they all come back? If not try restarting the iPod and syncing again...
Technically it can't ruin your iPod, unless there is a wired fault which would overload your iPod... Sometimes when I charge my iPhone on my work computer and disconnect it from XP I can sometimes blue screen it without a problem... I think its just the windows environment doing stupid things...
Additionally if anything did happen, you might have to do a restore on the iPod to get it all back... But until you resync it with your itunes there's no way to tell what the problems are.

  • My iPod wont charge when i play on it, or even show that it is charging, plus it wont charge over 50%.

My iPod has recently begun to have issues. When I plug it in to a charging cord (wall adapter or computer) it won't show that it is connected.
And, I can't charge it and play at the same time.
Finally, it charges really slow. As in, takes at least 5 hours to get to 100% battery.

    Hello,
I am currently an owner of an Ipod Touch 4th generation. I see you are having problems with your Ipod Touch, so I will try to find a solution to your problem.
To fix the bends in the cord, try unbending them back to normal. If not, you will have to buy a new cord (some stores that sell them would be The Source,etc...)
    Hope that helps!
If none of the above solutions work, can you please respond back ASAP as I will try to find another solution to your problem.
    Cheers!
