IPod shows no music but music appears in itunes on a mac

my 80G Classic ipod has about 36 Gigs of music. The ipod was disconnected improperly and all music is intact in itunes. once the ipod is disconnected from the computer, the ipod reads no information whatsoever! the ipod appears to not have any music, but still reads to have 36G of information. When i connect it to the computer again, all the music is there.
I've put music on the ipod and taken it off the computer, so rebuilding is almost impossible.
There is not enough room on this computer to save the music files from the ipod and I don't have an external hard drive.
There is a solution to this promlem. Anyone know what it is?
I use a mac.

The ipod was disconnected improperly
If you did that then the iPod database has probably become corrupted. The usual cure for this is a simple restore and reload the music from iTunes, but since you have no music on your computer you can't do that.
See if a program such as Senuti will allow you to copy the music from iPod to computer. If it will, you can restore the iPod.

  • IPod recognised by windows, but not appearing in iTunes

My sister recently bought an iPod nano so we have both been using the same computer, different user areas for our iTunes. However, there is some conflict between them somehow as now the iPod is not appearing in iTunes but is appearing as a hard drive.
My iPods an old 20gb one so I'm guessing that's got something to do with it, the iPod software doesn't work for both of them.
I just got a laptop today so I'm copying my music over using the iPod as a hard drive so it's not such a problem for me but I want to sort it out for my sister. How can we make the iPod appear in iTunes?

Change the drive letter to something higher, like M.

  • IPOD Showing No Music and Crashing iTunes

    Hi all,
Earlier today I was listening to my ipod classic 80GB, the music stopped and the screen showed the apple, then it came back on and said there was no more at all on my ipod, however, it still says 40GB used, but the type of file it says is used is 'other' and not audio.
I tried to plug it into my laptop but it crashes itunes and I therefore cannot restore it or manage it at all.
I look forward to your responses in alleviating this irritating problem.

Most likely your iPod Hardisk is dying, and failing to do a final write after Sync.
Do the iPod Disk Diagnostic as posted by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but  help in troubleshooting.
    Have a nice day!

my iphone4  ipod shows no video, but i have videos recorded by my iphone. please help me

    Just to to clear.
The Photos app on your iPhone is the only place you will see your recorded movies and/or movies synced from iPhoto on your computer.
As Rudegar suggests, the Photo app is divided between your camera roll where unsynced movies/photos are kept and Photo Library shows movies/photos that have been synced from iPhoto on your computer to your iPhone.
Like music, your movies will only be available in the iPod app if you purposely imported your recordings into iTunes itself, i.e. they exist in the movies section of iTunes on your computer.
    Hope this helps, Rodí

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • How come my iPod Touch (5th Generation) won't appear in iTunes?

My iPod Touch (5th Generation) won't appear in iTunes. I've never had any problem like this until we got that new charger and USB cord that comes with the 5th Generation. We just barely managed to get it to charge with my HP laptop. Before the device was considered "unknown" and was rejected by my computer, but then I found an article that said to uninstall the USB driver or whatever, and we did so, so now it's able to charge. We got all happy, thinking that it was going to apear in iTunes now, but it's still not there. It's said to be "Apple iPod" whenever it pops up after being connected to the computer, but it doesn't open in iTunes. I tried going under "File" and then "Device", and then trying to sync, but it appears gray and won't let me click on it. I don't know how to get it to open there. Can anyone help me? Please?

    - Reboot the computer
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Then try again.

  • I cannot get my ipod touch or iphone to be recognized by Itunes on my mac mini. Only when i download itunes each time afresh, will it show up the first time. Then these devices will not be recognized at other times. Is it because i am not uninstalling it

I cannot get my ipod touch or iphone to be recognized by Itunes on my mac mini. Only when i download itunes each time afresh, will it show up the first time. Then these devices will not be recognized subsequently. Is it because i am not uninstalling itunes before I download it? Surely this is a basic thing, ie that my devices need to recognize each other?

Pay no attention to iinami, the amount of replies to people saying their handsets must have been jailbroken everytime iTunes throws out an error is tremendous. (Clearly you don't need to have any real knowledge to get to level 3 on these forums, let's hope apple's geniuses know a lot more than some of their customers.)

    Solution below.
    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • Please Help! Ipod syncing and copying with itunes but Ipod shows No Music

I don't know what I am doing wrong, I've got maybe 30 songs in Itunes, I connect the ipod, the ipod shows up in itunes. I have tried the following ways to get music from the library onto the pod
    1. Right Click 'my pod' - select update songs
    2. Top menu File - select songs on my pod
    3. Right Click 'my pod' - select 'options' tick automatically update all songs,
    4. As 3 but selected Manually update songs
In each instance the itunes thing goes through the motion of syncing, copying and updating etc
Then if you click on 'my pod' you can see in itunes all the music is there although you can not click on it or play it but the list is there.
However when I detached the pod it says No Music, No Playlists
    Nothing
I checked the status and the ipod is empty
I don't know what else to do!!
    Please can someone help
    Many Thanks in advance

Your libarary doesn't just appear on any computer you sign into with your appleID.  If your computers are on the same network, you can enable home sharing and access the other computer's library this way.

  • Music appears in iTunes, but not on ipod touch itself

Hi. My son got a new ipod touch about 2 weeks ago. We've set it up to automatically sync a particular folder (so he doesn't have to get ALL the music on our iTunes).
Tonight we added a few songs to his folder in iTunes and synced the ipod. In iTunes, when we click on the ipod icon and check, the songs appear in his folder, so they appear to have been transferred. However, when we eject and look in the ipod itself, the songs do not appear to be there. What makes the weirder is that when we reconnect the ipod to the computer and click on its icon in iTunes, the songs appear to be there after all.
Any thoughts as to what's going on and how to fix it? I have done a hard reset and full restore on the ipod touch; no change. I have not yet atempted to simply manually add each song (that just occurred to me).
    Thoughts?
    Thanks, Paul

Okay, figured out how to get around this. I have restrictions set to "Clean" on the ipod touch. The songs in question are "Clean" versions of, I assume, otherwise explicit songs. However, the restrictions don't seem to recognize that and are blocking them. When I change the restrictions setting on the ipod touch to "Explicit", the songs are accessible on the device.
On the computer itself, I have parental restrictions in place to prevent "explicit" songs from being downloaded, and these "clean" versions passed that bar, but apparently not for the ipod software. What's with this inconsistency? Is this a glitch? To whom should I report it? Isn't part of the point of those sanitized versions that they should be playable on devices with parental restrictions set?

  • IPod shows NO music but "data" is there! How can I recover Playlists, etc?

Turned on my iPod (Windows formatted) and it showed NO music/content at all, like it was completely blank. Asked for Language selection on boot-up, etc.
The home computer is in another state, so I can't just resync to restore the music and playlists. iTunes shows the iPod as having 55GB of "data", but it doesn't show up on the player. It's like the internal database became corrupt.
I've tried a couple of data recovery programs, but nothing works. I'm primarily interested in recovering the PLAYLISTS. I have a backup of all the music, but the playlists took a long time to assemble.
Unless there's an easier fix (I've tried restarting the iPod, etc.) is there a location on the iPod (using Anapod Explorer or something) where the Playlist data is stored? I looked in the ".Trashes" and other folders but didn't see anything resembling Playlist data.

Have you tried Don King's method as outlined here?
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=915194#915194
Don't know if it will recover the playlist structure though.

  • Y..Y..Y, DOES NEW MUSIC APPEAR IN ITUNE BUT I CANT UPDATE IPOD...Y..Y..Y???

Hello, I've had limewire to download music for several months now and could drag music to itune then update my ipod, but recently the new songs I drag to itune from limewire are seen in my itune and can be played as well but when I try to update ipod the new songs don't appear. Nothing appears to be wrong with the ipod. I've tried resetting it, checking for upgrades both for the ipod and for the itune and nothing seems to work. Is itune now controling what can be updated to ipod. In other words, will the ipod only accept purchased music from itune?? Please help!! I'll appreciate it a lot...THANKS!

no i still use limewire to get songs and i can put them on to itunes. but what i do is i add the songs that i want to be put on to itunes into the playlist on limewire and save them to like my music folder and then i go on to itunes and click file, add file to libary and then it will be on the libary on itunes

    Hi,
Your old pod can only sync with music that is physically in your itunes library and on your hard drive. Therefore there is simple way to resolve is to download your music to your hard drive.
