IPod shows no music, iTunes no longer reads iPod

I have a 4th generation 40gig iPod (non-colour). Yesterday, I plugged it into my MacBookPro, it loaded my iTunes, and I manually added a couple of songs and made a new iPod playlist. I then spent some time going through my old iPod playlists and listened to a bunch of music directly from my iPod. When I was done, I hit the eject button in iTunes, waited for the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" message to disappear, and disconnected my iPod. When I did so, I found that it was completely devoid of music. I tried plugging it back into my computer, and I was met with a message telling me that iTunes cannot read my iPod, and a suggestion to restore my iPod from the summary window.
My music is not all in one place, after switching computers a few times, so I'd prefer to avoid restoring, if at all possible. Not only that, but my playlists are really valuable to me. I want to get those back. I have accessed my iPod on my desktop and it shows me that I have 10 gigs of space left, plus I accessed the hidden folders under "iPod_controls" that shows a bunch of .mp3 files, so I know that SOMETHING is still there. I tried using Stellar Phoenix iPod Recovery, but I could only run it in the setting that scanned for file types, and it only recovered about 1/5th of my music (I don't think it recovered any playlist files, either). I have seen the article about manually copying files from the iPod onto a hard drive, but it seems to only cover the actual music files. Is there any way I can manually copy the library-specific files so that I can retain my playlists, at the very least?

And I clearly have posted this in the wrong section. Sorry. I always think of my iPod as a "classic" and I forget that it's actually not the same thing as an older iPod. I'm reposting this in the general iPod board.

  • ITunes no longer reads my iPhone or iPad when plugged in.  I have iCloud but some teaching mp3 no longer transfer from computer to devices.

For years I have been able to share all my audio files between my phone, pod, & iPad.  Since iCloud and Match, iTunes no longer transfers mp3 files that it sees as not music.  When I do plug in my iPhone and iPad, iTunes no longer reads my iPhone and iPad as a device.  How can I get my mp3 files that are teaching tapes back on my mobile devices?

  • ITunes no longer reading my iPod

This is my first post, so please tell me if this should go in another forum.
Anway, out of the blue today, iTunes can no longer read my iPod. I've looked around the web for similar complaints, but haven't come across a solution. I did see that a recent iTunes update caused quite a few problems, but I hadn't had any until today. Should I uninstall iTunes and try downloading and installing it again? If I did that, and it worked, would the music on my iPod show up, or would it try to wipe it clean? I've got a LOT of songs on it and don't won't to risk having it erased. Thanks in advance.

  • Videos (TV shows and music) Will No Longer Play

My Ipod Video was working great--playing TV shows and videos. Suddenly it no longer plays the TV Shows or music videos. Please help me. Why did it just quit playing them? Can someone tell me what to do to get them going again? When I plug my Ipod into the computer, I can play the videos from the Ipod on the computer in the small viewer on the left of the Itunes screen. Thanks

  • Itunes No longer reading devices

After this last update Itunes is no longer reading my phone.  I have checked all the usb hubs and they all work properly. I have even used another cable to no avail.  The strange thing is that although Itunes doesn't read my iphone it still shows up in my computer & I am able to look at the pictures on my iphone.  I have hard restored my phone as well. Any help would be great.

I have the same issue. Since I updated iTunes 11.3 in a Windows 8.1 Pro, the iPhones are no longer visible. I uninstalled the drives, rebooted, uninstalled iTunes, rebooted, re-installed it and still cannot be seen.
The phone asks me if the computer can be trust every time and I say "Yes".
So what's the solution? Wait for iTunes 11.4 and in the mean time SOL?

  • Ipod not showing any music, Itunes dies when connecting

    Hey everybody,
Here's my problem: Earlier on I loaded 40 songs on my Ipod Classic and was charging it for a little while. When I disconnected it, it told me no songs were in it's library. I reconnected the Ipod to my computer several times and everytime I did so, Itunes died on me, and a Windows window popped up informing me that the external harddrive was perhaps broken and it could attempt to fix it. I didn't do that yet since I have no idea what it's actually going to do and I was hoping there'd be a way to reset it complettly over itunes after all. I've worked my way through the apple support, rebooting etc etc, got no effect whatsoever though. Hope you can help me out.

That is helpful but not exactly what my issue was. It only showed how to drag general music into iTunes, not how to drag self-created playlists back into a folder along with "__'s iPod Selection" in iTunes and on the iPod.

  • ITunes no longer reads my podcast feed

    RSS:  http://feeds.feedburner.com/nomeatathlete
    iTunes Site:  http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/no-meat-athlete/id476196931
I haven't updated a podcast recently, but I noticed today that itunes now says I have 0 items!  I had several podcasts listed in the past.  I haven't changed the feed or anything like that, so I'm totally confused why itunes quit picking them up.  We are about to release several new shows and I want to make sure it is working properly before we do!
    Any help?  Thanks!

There are ten episodes in your feed, but none of them has any playable media: iTunes does not display episodes with no playable media, hence your podcast appears empty.
A common explanation for this is that you are mixing episodes with media with episodes with no media: and Wordpress is limiting the number of episodes in the feed to ten, removing older ones to an archive page as new ones are added. You have reached a point where you have ten episodes with no media, and episodes which have have been pushed out.
You should be able to increase the number of episodes - there will presumably be a setting somewhere in Wordpress to do this - so that you get some media episodes back: but it's not really a good idea to mix what are really just blog entries with podcast entries in this way, and you've run into a demo of why it isn't.

  • Music CDS no longer read and DVDs work fine?

MAC NOW JUST EJECTS ALL MUSIC CD'S. DVD WILL PLAY BUT MUSIC WILL NOT. I'VE BEEN RIPPIN' MP3'S OFF OF THE DISK ON2 MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. THEN NEXT THING I KNOW... IT STARTED SPITTIN' THEM BACK OUT. SOMETIMES IT WOULD DO IT 2 JUST 1 OR 2 AND I FIGURED THE DISK WAS MESSED UP OR SOMETHING. Please help

This is a hardware issue. Likely your optical drive has failed.   Contact Apple using www.apple.com/support/contact if you are in a country that supports it or call the appropriate phone number on this page. Alternatively carry the MacBook in to an Apple retail store or service provider to ask for an estimate.

  • Ipod Touch 5th Generation will not turn on, restore, or show up in itunes unless in DFU mode.

So a friend gave me his Ipod Touch 5th gen because he couldn't fix it himself and he bought a new one, and while I'm stoked to have a near brand-new Ipod touch, it's also frustrating me to the point I'm ready to give up on it aswell and pass it down the line. I'm not sure what he did to it, he says it just stopped working but you never know.
Anyways, the problem is that it simply does not turn on regardless of what I do to it. When I plug it into the computer, it gets warm; usually a sign it's charging fine. However, it doesn't show up on Itunes. I read some forum posts and searched around other places aswell, and tried putting it into DFU/Recovery(not sure which is which anymore, it's the one where you hold down the power button for 3 seconds, then home+power for 10, then home button for 20). It showed up on Itunes, and said it needed to restore. I downloaded the 1.2gb update it needed, but then it hung at the "Waiting for Ipod" progress bar. As it does this, I get maybe 3-5 Windows 'bing' sounds of a connecting/disconnecting device, ending on a disconnect sound. Itunes eventually times out the restore with an error code 4005, which I read means the Ipod has been disconnected in the middle.
After this, it doesn't show up on Itunes and I have to repeat the process to get it to show up again. I tried it a third time just now and it's still doing the same thing.
Any ideas? Really at the end of the line on ideas I think.
    Please and thanks,
    -Cody
P.S. I don't know if it matters but the warmth is coming from the top/camera end fo the Ipod. Not sure where the battery is versus the CPU, but maybe that'll help the diagnosis.
P.S.S. Also, when it shows up in Itunes in recovery mode, it doesn't show a serial number, so I don't think an Apple store would even work on it without a serial #.

If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.

Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
    Try on another computer.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • New iTunes update, iPod no longer shows up in iTunes

Got a update request from iTunes today and accepted the upgrade for iTunes and QuickTime.  I ignored the warning from Microsoft that this was not approved for XP (stupid, but I doubted that Apple would trash my connection).  After the install, I no longer have my iPod show up in my iTunes.  I have done a System Restore, deleted iTunes and reinstalled, deleted iTunes and manually removed all left over folders and then reinstalled; followed all of the troubleshooting items at http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/itunes/ and lots of other things over the past 6 hours.  I am really tired now.  Does anyone have any help.  Note that the iPod charges through the ISB port, the wi-fi worksm the apps and music and library items show up in iTunes.  The only thing that is missing is the iPod showing up in iTunes so that I cannot sync.  Also when I open iTunes I get this message:
      Warning!
iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs,
      you need to reinstall iTunes.
    I need to sync. Help.

Good news now.  After two more uninstall/reinstalls I now get my iPod showing up in iTunes.  I still get the:
    Warning!
iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs,
      you need to reinstall iTunes.
box every time I open iTunes, but this is an annoyance, not a disaster.  Still any help in stopping this pop-up would be appreciated.  Also I have sucessfully imported a CD to iTunes, so I am not sure what the warning is about.  (I do not have a downloaded song to try to burn to a CD however).

  • TS1382 I have a ipod classic 160GB and it's not showing any music anymore, but there is still 7GB of memory being used, and I don't have it back up on my itunes, since I had to put a new hard drive on my computer. Any suggestion to find out whats on that

I have a ipod classic 160GB and it's not showing any music anymore, but there is still showing 7GB of memory being used, and I don't have it backed up on my itunes, since I had to put a new hard drive on my computer. Any suggestion to find out whats on that memory or to get it the music back, there is approximately over 1400 songs on it?

What is the memory being used by, is it Other? If it is, that means the iPod can no longer read the music, so it has put it all in "Other".
The usual fix for this is to allow the iPod to Sync with its iTunes Library. If that doesn't work, the next option is to Restore the iPod using the Restore command in iTunes, on the Device/Summary pane.
Unless you are very (very) lucky, I suspect that you are going to have to Restore your iPod. Restoring will remove everything form the iPod and put back onto it only what it finds in your iTunes Library, which you say is currently empty.
    If you have to rebuild your Library after this issue, by adding all the music back again, this is going to be hard to hear, but for the future, you may want to consider always having a backup of your library. The easiset way to back the Library up is;
if the Library is small enough, burn it to a DVD, as digital files, not a "music CD".
If your Library is too large for a DVD, buy yourself an external hard drive and copy the Library onto the drive. Remember to update the backup every so often.

  • IPod 7th generation shows no music in menu, but does on iTunes

I operate on a Windows platform with iTunes SW ver 11.2.2.3 and an iPod 7th generation with SW version 1.0.3. Both identified as latest.
All was good until the battery drained out completely. I have since been able to synch music and audiobooks that show up on iTunes as being loaded on the iPod.
But when I use the iPod menu, the "Music" icon no longer takes me to the menu list (music, audiobiiks, etc) but to a screen with musical notes on it and says there's nothing.
Tried to synch it on an Apple computer and it worked. Reset it to the Windows computer and it doesn't.
    Anyone can help please?

I have had this same problem for over a month with a Win7 system. I have been working with AppleCare Support all along and we have even replaced the Nano twice without resolution. We tried different cables, different USB ports, uninstalled iTunes, ran CCleaner to correct registry errors, restarted, reinstalled iTunes, etc, etc several times. I posted my problem along with a lengthy explanation earlier tonight. I have documented everything that I have done with Apple and we are both stumped.
Lets hope someone can figure out what causes the directory on the Nano not to recognize that tracks have been loaded.

  • ITunes shows the music and audiobooks I've loaded to my iPod Touch, but they do not show up when I try to play them.

iTunes shows the music and audiobooks I've loaded to my iPod Touch, but they do not show up when I try to play them.  I reconnect to iTunes and it shows the music and books as being loaded on my iPod.
Sometimes the audiobook will play, then disappear from iPod's play menu after I reconnect to iTunes and load more music.  I've got plenty of free memory, and iTunes shows the files still on iPod.
....or should I just roll it back to iOS 5...  never had these kinds of issues with the old OS.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all AB and resync
To delete all ADgo to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>AB and try deleting them from there
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • My iPod Classic is seen by Windows but not by iTunes.  I have reset it, gone to disk mode and it won't show up in iTunes.  There appears to be music on it in a file called MUSICSAVE.  How can I get this to work with iTunes again?

My iPod Classic is seen by Windows but not by iTunes.  I have reset it, gone to disk mode and it won't show up in iTunes.  There appears to be music on it in a file called MUSICSAVE.  How can I get this to work with iTunes again?

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.
