IPod shows no music!

I just updated my iPod last night, and now the music is gone. I went to the "About" screen, and it shows no songs, yet still using the same amount of bytes as it was with music. Any thoughts or help??

You should Restore your iPod and then sync the music again.

  • Please Help! Ipod syncing and copying with itunes but Ipod shows No Music

I don't know what I am doing wrong, I've got maybe 30 songs in Itunes, I connect the ipod, the ipod shows up in itunes. I have tried the following ways to get music from the library onto the pod
    1. Right Click 'my pod' - select update songs
    2. Top menu File - select songs on my pod
    3. Right Click 'my pod' - select 'options' tick automatically update all songs,
    4. As 3 but selected Manually update songs
In each instance the itunes thing goes through the motion of syncing, copying and updating etc
Then if you click on 'my pod' you can see in itunes all the music is there although you can not click on it or play it but the list is there.
However when I detached the pod it says No Music, No Playlists
    Nothing
I checked the status and the ipod is empty
I don't know what else to do!!
    Please can someone help
    Many Thanks in advance

Your libarary doesn't just appear on any computer you sign into with your appleID.  If your computers are on the same network, you can enable home sharing and access the other computer's library this way.

  • IPod shows NO music but "data" is there! How can I recover Playlists, etc?

Turned on my iPod (Windows formatted) and it showed NO music/content at all, like it was completely blank. Asked for Language selection on boot-up, etc.
The home computer is in another state, so I can't just resync to restore the music and playlists. iTunes shows the iPod as having 55GB of "data", but it doesn't show up on the player. It's like the internal database became corrupt.
I've tried a couple of data recovery programs, but nothing works. I'm primarily interested in recovering the PLAYLISTS. I have a backup of all the music, but the playlists took a long time to assemble.
Unless there's an easier fix (I've tried restarting the iPod, etc.) is there a location on the iPod (using Anapod Explorer or something) where the Playlist data is stored? I looked in the ".Trashes" and other folders but didn't see anything resembling Playlist data.

Have you tried Don King's method as outlined here?

Don't know if it will recover the playlist structure though.

  • IPod shows no music, iTunes no longer reads iPod

I have a 4th generation 40gig iPod (non-colour). Yesterday, I plugged it into my MacBookPro, it loaded my iTunes, and I manually added a couple of songs and made a new iPod playlist. I then spent some time going through my old iPod playlists and listened to a bunch of music directly from my iPod. When I was done, I hit the eject button in iTunes, waited for the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" message to disappear, and disconnected my iPod. When I did so, I found that it was completely devoid of music. I tried plugging it back into my computer, and I was met with a message telling me that iTunes cannot read my iPod, and a suggestion to restore my iPod from the summary window.
My music is not all in one place, after switching computers a few times, so I'd prefer to avoid restoring, if at all possible. Not only that, but my playlists are really valuable to me. I want to get those back. I have accessed my iPod on my desktop and it shows me that I have 10 gigs of space left, plus I accessed the hidden folders under "iPod_controls" that shows a bunch of .mp3 files, so I know that SOMETHING is still there. I tried using Stellar Phoenix iPod Recovery, but I could only run it in the setting that scanned for file types, and it only recovered about 1/5th of my music (I don't think it recovered any playlist files, either). I have seen the article about manually copying files from the iPod onto a hard drive, but it seems to only cover the actual music files. Is there any way I can manually copy the library-specific files so that I can retain my playlists, at the very least?

And I clearly have posted this in the wrong section. Sorry. I always think of my iPod as a "classic" and I forget that it's actually not the same thing as an older iPod. I'm reposting this in the general iPod board.

  • IPOD Showing No Music and Crashing iTunes

    Hi all,
Earlier today I was listening to my ipod classic 80GB, the music stopped and the screen showed the apple, then it came back on and said there was no more at all on my ipod, however, it still says 40GB used, but the type of file it says is used is 'other' and not audio.
I tried to plug it into my laptop but it crashes itunes and I therefore cannot restore it or manage it at all.
I look forward to your responses in alleviating this irritating problem.

Most likely your iPod Hardisk is dying, and failing to do a final write after Sync.
Do the iPod Disk Diagnostic as posted by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but  help in troubleshooting.
    Have a nice day!

  • Anyone go through all the syncing steps, have everything say it was done correctly but the ipod shows no music?

All indications show my ipod has been synced correctly but there are no songs showing on the ipod itself. Any suggestions what may be the problem?

    The ipod was disconnected improperly
If you did that then the iPod database has probably become corrupted. The usual cure for this is a simple restore and reload the music from iTunes, but since you have no music on your computer you can't do that.
See if a program such as Senuti will allow you to copy the music from iPod to computer. If it will, you can restore the iPod.

  • IPOD Showing up, music NOT synching!

I have gone through a million and one messages on the support page, and STILL I have NO answers. I cannot sync my songs in my iTunes library to my IPOD. Its showing up on iTunes under my music for my IPOD, but its not on my IPOD!!!
CAN someone help?? I am pulling my hair out left and right here.
I have reset, uninstalled, and reinstalled iTunes, and everything, and its STILL NOT WORKING!!!!!!!!!!

I started getting the message the other day. I shut
down my computer every day, so yes the computer has
been shut down since the error message started
appearing. The only thing that I can think of that
might have something to do with this is either
iTunes7 being buggy or that I recently changed my log
on name for iTunes because my email address had
    changed.
To answer your other question: Yes it is the same
account that iTunes was created on. It is the first
account I made when I set up the pc and I install
    everything from this account.
Any other ideas? I do think it started after I
changed the account name so I might try to change it
    back and see what happens.
    - Stormms
The iTunes Store account name should not make a difference for this error message. Unable to write to a specific folder on the computer comes down to the setting in Windows for that folder. Some applications will change them, but iTunes isn't one that does.
If you check the properties for the following folders are they read only?
My Documents (usually on the desktop full path is C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\)
    My Music (inside My documents)
    iTunes (inside My Music)
and any folders inside the iTunes folder there.
Please let me know what the properties show for those folders.
    Thank you

  • IPod shows no music but music appears in itunes on a mac

my 80G Classic ipod has about 36 Gigs of music. The ipod was disconnected improperly and all music is intact in itunes. once the ipod is disconnected from the computer, the ipod reads no information whatsoever! the ipod appears to not have any music, but still reads to have 36G of information. When i connect it to the computer again, all the music is there.
I've put music on the ipod and taken it off the computer, so rebuilding is almost impossible.
There is not enough room on this computer to save the music files from the ipod and I don't have an external hard drive.
There is a solution to this promlem. Anyone know what it is?
    I use a mac.

  • 80GB ipod Classic not showing any Music loaded on it

I have an 80GB Classic Model No A1238. Suddenly the ipod has stopped showing any playlist or music that was there on it. But the ipod shows 56.4gb used and 17.9GB Free which means it still has the data but in the summary it shows Songs 0, Videos 0, Podcast 0 etc... How can i recover the music and make it appear ? Will i have to restore the ipod or there is a way recover ? Please help.

Sounds like the iPod's file system and databases have been corrupted possibly due to a damaged/failing hard drive or failed sync operating with iTunes.  So yes, the only way to try and recover is to restore the iPod to factory settings.

  • ITunes shows the music and audiobooks I've loaded to my iPod Touch, but they do not show up when I try to play them.

iTunes shows the music and audiobooks I've loaded to my iPod Touch, but they do not show up when I try to play them.  I reconnect to iTunes and it shows the music and books as being loaded on my iPod.
Sometimes the audiobook will play, then disappear from iPod's play menu after I reconnect to iTunes and load more music.  I've got plenty of free memory, and iTunes shows the files still on iPod.
....or should I just roll it back to iOS 5...  never had these kinds of issues with the old OS.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all AB and resync
To delete all ADgo to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>AB and try deleting them from there
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • TS4062 I can't sync music on my computer to my ipod touch; the ipod shows up under Devices in itunes but does not show buttons (Summary etc.) when I click on it. Suggestions?

I can't sync music already on my computer to my ipod touch; the ipod shows up under Devices in itunes but does not show buttons (Summary etc.) when I click on it. I've read through all the Help tutorials but none of them say what to do if the sync options don't pop up when you highlight the device.  I've already spent way too much time trying to figure this out and it's driving me crazy!  Thanks for any help you can offer.

This is correct.  It will not show in finder.  It is not an external storage device.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  Open itunes connect ipod, do not sync, click File>Transfer Purchases

  • I have a Ipod touch and recently added new music to my itunes library on my laptop. When I sync with my ipod, the new music does not show up on my ipod even though the sync process seems to be working.

I have an Ipod touch and recently added new music to my Itunes library. When I sync with the library, the new music does not show up on my ipod. The sync process seems to be working and there is still plenty of space on the Ipod for new music so I'm not sure what the problem is!

What happens when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

Do you have any Restrictions (Settings>General>Restrictions) set that would prevent syncing those songs?

I have 2 ipods, one for music and the other for old time radio shows. Each had their own file.My computer crashed and I had to buy a new one.Now both ipod files are merged into one.How do I seperate them on the computer?

    Hi Craig
Unfortunately, in your case, there isn't really a way to separate them as far as I can think.
You could try restoring from a backup, and choosing an older backup perhaps
