  • Ipod Touch version 4.2.1 not recognized by iTunes

All I'm doing is trying to update the songs on it. I know apps and such will no longer update, but it's ridiculous that I can't plug it in and put some songs on. The iPod Touch version is 4.2.1 and my current itunes is 11.5.1. I'm currently using Mountain Lion so 10.8.5 for the computer version.
If I need to get an earlier version of iTunes, can someone tell me how to get it on there? Do I have to get rid of the current itunes version or what?

The current version of iTunes is bacward compatible with all iPods.

  • IPod Touch 4G running iOS 6 not recognized by iTunes 10.7

After updating my iPod Touch 4G to iOS 6 from the device itself and then updating iTunes on my PC to 10.7, whenever I connect the iPod Touch, it gives an error saying "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes."
My computer is running on a 64-bit OS, and the version of iTunes I installed is 64-bit. I have already tried the methods given by Apple to fix this (uninstalling iTunes and all other Apple software and reinstall iTunes, running Apple Mobile Support program, etc...). How can I get my iPod Touch to be recognized properly?
*Note: I am still able to update my old iPod Video 5G without a problem*

I agree it it the driver since the diagnostics say:
Apple Mobile Device Driver not found.

  • TS1363 my ipod shows up in My Computer...until ITunes opens

my ipod shows up in My Computer and the E drive...until ITunes opens. Then the ipod disappears and ITunes says it can't identify it and the ipod disappears from My Computer.  I have Windows 8.1.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled ITunes.  I've shut off the ipod service and turned back on.  I've reset the ipod settings.  Basically, I've worked through all the suggestions from the website and nothing has solved the problem.

I have exactly the same situation except that my IPAD2 also disappeared from ITunes.
I managed to resolve the IPAD by re-installing the device driver specifying C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers\usbaapl64.inf and as soon as I had done that the IPAD re-appeared in ITunes.
I cannot get the IPOD to work though. Windows insists on seeing it as a disk drive and if I try to install usbaapl64.inf as above I just get an error message saying it is not a compatible device.
I can access the IPOD and see video/photos etc until I run ITunes. Before running ITunes the IPOD is identified as a device with the correct name. As soon as ITunes runs the name disappears and it shows simply as "E:"
I've run out of ideas now so I'm hoping that someone comes up with a solution.

  • IPod touch 5G only recognized as camera in "My Computer", not recognized in iTunes

Hello all, I received a new iPod touch for Christmas and I cannot get it to be recognized under iTunes. It is only recognized as a camera under My Computer in Windows XP. I believe my problems began when I recently upgraded my iTunes from version 10.5.3 to version 10.7 (not ready for iTunes 11 yet) so I could sync my iPod touch with iOS 6. During the installation of iTunes 10.7, I ran into a problem with the drivers for burning CDs with iTunes being missing so I followed the steps in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3299 by reinstalling iTunes and changing the registry settings beginning at Step 11. I solved that problem and now I have a problem with my iPod touch not being recognized by iTunes. Please help!
Also, if this helps, my old iPod 5th generation 30GB is still able to be recognized in iTunes. So what's going on with my iPod touch??

It will only ever be recognized as a camera in "My Computer" because that is what it is.
Install the latest version of iTunes and then try again.

Ok....now when I get iTunes to see the device it named it what I have named another iPod ?...and used the current serial number of the new iPod touch.....and it says it is synching the iPod touch.....however, it it really backing up onto the cloud and has been doing this for over 9 hours????  I think something might be wrong....or is it really making a backup copy?   Really confused if I should just unplug everything and take this stupid thing back to the store....much happier with my nano 16gb :). So much easier to figure out.  Btw I synced it and it worked just fine...while doing the backup thing today?????   Anyone, any ideas?  Thanks.

  • TS1538 Ipod Touch stuck in DFU mode, not recognized in itunes after 1602 error restoring.

I've tried all of the: Hold Power button and Home items. It's plugged into the computer, screen is black. Windows sees the apple mobile device driver under devices and hardware. The driver's properties says it's in DFU mode. It was constatnly stuck in Recovery mode showing the CD+music note icon and the 30-pin connector image. Connecting the ipod to the computer, windows makes the connection sound but itunes does not open. Opening itunes, ipod is not recognized.
    It's a gen 1 touch, version 2.? firmware, I think.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

  • Ipod classic (photo) and windows version not recognized by itunes on my macbook air. Iphone works fine and previously it also worked out with the Ipod. If someone has an answer that would be great. thanks

itunes on my mac does not any longer show my ipod classic (photo, window formated). It worked before and itunes with iphone just works fine. Any clue? Thanks.

Sorry to jump the gun, but did you connect the iPod via USB Hub on the MB Air?
If plug it into the wrong USB port, which is shared like using a USB Hub, I would suggest connecting the iPod directly to the MB Air and not via USB Hub.
But if you connect directly, have the iPod ever connect to iTunes, without problems, on this MB Air?
You got an old 4G iPod photo, based on iPod Software version 1.2.1
I mean downgrade to the iTunes version, that was working, with your iPod, but try the right USB port first before downgrading iTunes, with earlier version download here.

Without knowing exactly what troubleshooting you've tried, if you are using a Windows based computer, try iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Disable a/v software and turn off the Firewall.. see if that helps.
    Disable antivirus software
    Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

Basically, I my iPod recently stopped responding. iTunes won't detect it when I connect it. The iPod shows up in My Computer and as connected when I run the iPod diagnostics through iTunes. iTunes also automatically opens when I connect the iPod. Why won't the iPod appear in iTunes, and how can I get it to appear? I don't care about anything on the iPod, as I have backups. Please help. Thanks.

Oh yes, I've also tried Apple's "iPod recognized by Windows but not iTunes" page. I have reinstalled iTunes, reset my iPod, and even reset the iPod Service.
