IPOD shows wrong memory usage

I'm just in the process of uploading all my CD's to my new 60G iPod. With the first couple of CD's the memory display in the iPod and the iTunes (v4.7 & v5.0) showed the same correct but now the iPod (v1.2) is still saying it has 5226 titles and 55.7GB overall space and still 53.8GB of free space where the iTunes 5.0 says also 5226 titles but (the correct) 21.51GB used. It seems that the iPod has more than 20GB of music but have no clue about the free space left. Any clue how to get this synced again without restoring the whole iPod?

this is like mine but im thinking the only way to go is a restore =(

  • IPhone shows wrong memory usage

I had to completely erase all data from my iPhone 4.  When syncing the first time about 800 songs out of 950 synced, then I got a "not enough memory" warning.  In Settings/General/Usage, it said I was using over 6GB of memory even though the songs and couple of apps I have only added up to 4.2 GB (with the difference being flagged as "Other" in the iTunes memory bar).
Another contributor had luck with going to /Usage, doing a side-swipe on /Usage/Music and erasing data there, so I tried that.  It seemed to work the first time, except then it only synced the 150 missing songs.  It still won't let me sync the rest of the songs, giving me the "not enough memory" error every time.
I then deselected syncing music in iTunes to try to clear the phone off in order to re-sync.  Now my iPhone Usage looks like this:
And now the dubious "Other" category has returned in iTunes:
What else can I do?  I've already reset and restored my phone twice already.

Update to the update:  the last (and largest) playlist got to within 50 songs then canceled with the same *#^$ message.  The "Other" category grew from a couple of tens of MB to 1.36 GB, and now the rest of my music won't fit.
What is ridiculous is that the exact same playlists fit on my iPod Touch and my last iPhone 3, which had the same amount of memory.  It's not system data, because it wasn't even present before I started trying to sync my music.
Stumped and frustrated by all this.

  • IOS 5 ipod 3 gen memory usage

I recently updated to ios 5 on my iPod 3 gen, the 'other' memory showing 12.5 gb used. How do I lessen the memory usage of that.

I managed to sort out my huge iPhone 4 "other" memory by using stage 1 of the Apple support document: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1503
Little bit quicker than having to do a restor thankfully but still annoying.

  • IDS 4235 showing 98% memory usage, is it normal?

    IDS 4235 with 4.1.5.S191 showing
Using 908922880 out of 921522176 bytes of available memory (98% usage)
    Is it normal ?

There is a 4.x known bug where the memory usage is incorrect.
The actual memory usage number can be determined from the service account by entering the following command:
    bash-2.05a$ free
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 1934076 1424896 509180 0 18284 1214536
    -/+ buffers/cache: 192076 1742000
    Swap: 522072 0 522072
The "Mem:" row, "used" column is the amount of memory (in kilobytes) that
the "show version" command reports. However, this total includes the
    "cached" amount.
So in the above example, the actual memory used is ( 1424896 - 1214536 ), or
    210360 KB. This is ( 210360 / 1934076 * 100 ), or 10.9% of total memory.

  • IPad with retina displaying wrong memory usage amount

I am using a 4th gen iPad, (iPad with retina and lighting port) and I have the 32gb with cellular version. Right now, my cellular is not active, but I'm with Telus, not sure if that matters. I'm running iOS 7.0.4. A few weeks ago, I realized I was running low on space, so I deleted a bunch of apps on my iPad, deleted tons of photos, etc. It said I had about 3gb of space available before I did that, but after, it only said I had about 6gb left. I have added up the memory usage of each app, and it only comes to about 13gb used, yet the usage says I have used up 21gb, and I only have about 6.5gb free. Even though I should have like 20gb free. I have turned my iPad on an off a few times with no change, I have restarted my iPad by holding down the home and power buttons, and still nothing. This is concerning me as to where this extra 8-9gb is being taken up. I should have a max capacity of 28gb, but my system says I am using up 21gb with 6gb free. Where as my math by adding up each apps usage only adds up to about 13gb or less. I have iTunes Match turned on, by my music app shows only 266mb used.
Anybody else having this problem? Does anyone have a solution?

Just a note: you may find the memory clock weird, but I have overclocked it to its nominal capacity (the memory chips are 4 ns).

  • IPod showing wrong podcast number

In iTunes (Windows), when I go to my iPod (Shuffle 4th generation), switch to "Podcasts" and tick "Sync Podcasts" with the default settings "Automatically include all episodes of all podcasts", it says "1 episode" on the right of "Sync Podcasts", though my iTunes Library says that I don't have any podcasts (which is right). After syncing, "On this iPod" shows no Podcasts too. Could anyone tell me how to correct this?

Just go to Settings > Store > and Sign Out.
Then if you want to buy an app it will ask for you ID

  • IPod restore shows wrong memory size

I just did a restore on my 2Gig Nano and the 6-28-06 updater says after the restore that I have 1.5GB avail.
Where did the other 500MB go? The OS cant be that big...can it?
(the ipod is empty. I have not installed any 3rd party plugins or used iTunes to upload my songs yet.)
When I open Windows Explorer and add all the files for the OS and etc. items it comes to a total of 52k of used space. Windows also sees the drive as 1.5gig total. but its a 2gig nano
Update - When I first bought the nano and used the update software it was 1.9GB avail. I sent it in because of the battery issues and ever since I cant fit the same amount of songs on it.
The orig playlist I had in the beginning no longer fits on the ipod anymore.
Could it be a failed memory module?

Well keep in mind that a 2G iPod is probably really only 1.86GB of real storage space to begin with, so rather than 500MB of lost space, you are probably really only looking at 360MB. I have no idea if the iPod FW uses up that much or not. Maybe someone with a "2G" Nano can verify what their space equals up to and if it also is 1.5 then that must be the right free space.

  • Activity Monitor shows virtual memory usage is way too high

35 Gb of virtual memory for Safari, Mail, iTunes, Activity Monitor and all running processes!
Why these numbers are so high compared to Tiger? Can someone please explain? Is it a bug or something or is it the new way introduced with Leopard?
RAM and CPU usage looks fine though but this VM usage seems too high to me. I will run out of disk space after a couple of days of runtime. And the Adobe Creative Suite is not even running. Jeez...

    Thanks for the hint Niel.
The /private/var/vm folder is actually only 64 Mb. I can calm myself now...
(via Go menu in the Finder, select Go to Folder and type /private/var/vm to access it)
But why is Activity Monitor behaving like this in Leopard?

  • Activity Monitor shows wrong disk usage

On my new MacBook Air (with Lion), Activity Monitor states I'm using 123 GB of the available 264 GB -- which is impossible, as it is still a "shadow" of my MacBook Pro, which only is using 107 GB of its 128 GB. Also, WhatSize on my Air is showing only 40 GB used... why would Activity Monitor be so wildly off -- or is there something else (possibly Lion-related) going on?

  • MacBook reporting wrong memory usage

My MacBook is telling me I've used all but about 54MB of my 150GB hard drive. There's no way this is correct - I have a 200 GB external hard drive that I use for all music, movies, etc. - and I can't put anything else on the hard drive because it says that it is full. I've calculated the memory used under applications, system, library, users, etc., and it shouldn't be more than 12 GB. I've also only had the computer for about a month, so I haven't had the time to put that much memory onto the hard drive. Is there anything I can do?

Thats an easy mistake to make. Open iTunes and go to Preferences. Under Advanced uncheck where it says *Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library* If you store your music on a seperate drive and don't uncheck this it makes a copy of everything in iTunes on your internal drive. Once you have unchecked it you can remove the music on your internal drive.

  • Get Memory Usage

I need a suggestion for a light weight tool that will show the memory usage and also that can tell me which components are using more memory than others. I tried using JProfiler from my server but it is so slow to display the GUI on my machine. Something that's fast and good.

I was finally able to connect remote session to local JProfiler. Java app runs on HP box. Now after running my code through the profiler I see that only 200 MB of heap space is being utilized but when I run top command I see 200 MB of RES space and total size is 1 GB. I tried to look at profiler but can't see where it's using extra 800 MB of memory. This application extracts blob and then encrypts them and writes to the file system. There are 4 threads that extract different kind of data.

  • Please help!! I got my iPhone 4s screen fixed, now in my Photos it shows nothing, although in my memory usage it shows 10.5gb of photos, thats 2000  photos not showing up. What happened?! Where did all my photos go?!

I got my iPhone 4s screen fixed, now in my Photos it shows nothing, although in my memory usage it shows 10.5gb of photos, thats 2000  photos not showing up. What happened?! Where did all my photos go?!

WOOHOO!!! i finaly fixed the problem. Here is what to do:
Chances are if you did the same thing as me you either have
    A) No album names at all for ALL your songs in your library
    or
    B) Have the same name for every album for ALL your songs in your library.
Here is how to fix it (yah it will take a little work but its worth getting your iPod functioning properly).
Unless you dont want to have to go and actualy set al lthe album names for every song here is what you can do:
Go through to iTunes and arange your songs by Artist name. Click the top song for your first artist, hold Shift and click the last song for that same artist (to multi select all the songs for the artist) go into get info and check the Album box. Copy the name of the artist to the Album box and hit ok.
Now when u update your ipod and go into ur Artists section the actual Artist name should show up instead of the song names.
For some reason having the same album name for all your songs messes up the organization of the iPod.
Hope this helps anyone else that is having the same problem

  • After upgrading ipod touch4 to ISO 5, why is the 'other' memory usage running at 25gb?

just upgraded my ipod touch4 to iso 5 and discovered that the "other" memory usage is running at 25gb and basically uses all of my 32gb capacity.  Something mucst be wrong???

it is icloud's backup and photostream feature. Turn them off and reboot the device and the space will come back.

  • Ultra high memory usage when deleting a slide show

    Hallo,
I have a DVD project with several menus and slideshows and a huge flowchart. I wanted to delete one of the slide shows. What happened then was that the memory usage rised up to over 2 GB. Not the usage of the exe shown in the windows task manager under "processes", but the swap file usage.
The first time I waited for like 5 minutes, and then Encore closed itself. Without any error message.
The next time I waited as long again, but then the swap file usage went down slowly again. After that Encore refreshed its window. The flow chart was what you could best describe as "broken". Encore then stated some abnormal condition and offered me to save the file, and recommended to save it under a different file name. I clicked on "ok", but instead of a file save dialog a C++ runtime error box appeared. I click "ok" for that, then the "you should save but under a different name" box appeared again. I clicked on "ok" again, the C++ error reappeared, and after clicking on "ok" there Encore closed itself.
I made a screenshot on which you can see the high swap file memory usage and the broken flowchart. You can download the screenshot under
    http://www.digitale-bibliothek.de/Downloads/ScreenEncoreDVD.jpg
I will now try to first delete all references to the slideshow in the flow chart. But as I cannot delete an asset that is still used in a slideshow or a timeline, Encore DVD should also prevent me from deleting objects that are used in the flowchart, if it is such a problem for Encore to delete the object then.
    Regards,
    Christian Kirchhoff

I'm a little confused as to where you tried to delete the slideshow from.
Was it from the actual Project Browser, where all the assets are listed?
Can you try deleting the surplus slideshow from there, and let us know what happens please?

  • My new iPhone 5 won't connect to iTunes, and when I connect to my computer it comes up as a usb storage device, also in the phone itself under usage it shows internal memory of 2gb and sd card 64 gb, is this an original iPhone or have I been sold a copy

My new iphone 5 can not connect to itunes, it comes up as a usb storage device when I plug it in, also in the phone under settings/usage it shows internal memory of 2gb and SD card of 64gb, I cannot get it to connect to itunes at all so cannot sync etc, is this a genuine Iphone or a copy. I have owned 4 iphones and never had a problem with connecting to iphones and restoreing to a backup.

    According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_5
the iPhone5 has 1GB of RAM, and internal storage of 16, 32, or 64GB.
It does not use SD cards.
Fake iphones are really Android phones using the skin of iOS6.
Click on the App Store icon. If it takes you to Apple's App Store, then it's a real iPhone.
But if you are directed to Google Play, then I'm afraid you've gotten a copy.
