  • I bought an IPOD shuffle (1st gen.) at a pawn shop and it is still synced to previos owners itunes acct. and I can put songs on it b/c I don't have their log in info. So how do I clear it out so I can sync it with my itunes acct.?

OK..So I bought an older IPOD shuffle (1st generation) at a pawn shop. I never have had an itunes acct. So I set one up and plugged the IPOD into my laptop. Apparently the previous owners itunes acct. is still synced with it and I cant put any songs on it b/c I do not have their itunes acct. info (log-in). So my question is how do I clear their info( un-sync) out of this IPOD so I can then be able to put it on my acct. Its not letting me restore it to factory settings without their info either. HELP!

iPods (except for iPod touch) are not linked to any iTunes "account."  They are associated with your iTunes library. The account in iTunes is your Apple ID, and that is used to buy and download content from the iTunes Store.  It is not required to use an iPod.
The 1st (and 2nd) gen shuffle can only be used with one iTunes library at a time.  When you connect it, iTunes should prompt you to start using it with your iTunes library, and warn that the shuffle's existing content will be erased.  Have iTunes erase the shuffle, and it will be associated with your iTunes library going forward.  You can then add content to your shuffle.
The need for the previous owner's Apple ID and password should only come up if you are trying to transfer existing content from the shuffle to your iTunes library, AND the previous owner had content purchased from the iTunes Store.  Just cancel out of that step, if iTunes asks.

  • Request for a replacement USB cap for iPod Shuffle 1st Gen. Gifting the iPod my grandma for birthday.

    Hi,
I have an iPod Shuffle 1st Generation 512Mb. I am planning to gift it to my grandma for her birthday but unfortunately, the I have lost the USB cap that covers the built in USB port on it. I have not had any luck finding it, and I was wondering if someone could kindly guide me to get a replacement please?  Contact me @ [email protected] and if it helps, I live in India so even if I need to order it online/or from overseas, that shouldn't be a problem. Please help.

I'm confused... is your shuffle a white plastic thing that looks like a pack of gum, or an aluminum one with a clip.
The reason for the confusion is that you said:
"+I have only had the iPod for a little over 4 months+"
If it's that new, Apple will replace it under warranty...however if it's a 1st Gen shuffle that's just that new to you, then it may be that the switch on the back is full of crud. It can be cleaned by someone adept with simple tools and at at following directions: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPod/iPod-Shuffle/Hold-Switch/98/1/

  • Ipod shuffle 1st gen not recognized by pc

Okay, so I have a ipod shuffle 1st generation that seems to hae no songs in it and it is not recognized by my pc or it does but I can't access it. On itunes after I plug it in my pc it says "iTunes has detected a damaged iPod . You may need to restore this iPod so that it can be used with iTunes. You can also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod" and after restoring it it says "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred ( 1442)". Maybe is it because i took it off from the usb port without using the proper way. Is it possible to to make it work again?
It is running version 1.1.5 or ios 1.1.5 cuz idk and I have a windows 8 pc.

  • I am trying to play my ipod shuffle 1st gen in itunes but it will not play. My windows 7 computer recognizes the ipod and I can easily select the songs on my ipod playlist in itunes but cannot play them. Any solutions to the problem?

I get the feeling some has asked a question "like" this but not exactly that question which makes it really hard for find answers fast to the above question. Therefore, I decided to ask it anyway. Hopefully someone has a good solution that will work.
    Background on the question:
    - I had to erase and reupload song on my ipod 1st gen to my new computer. Apparently the ipod could not be read by the iTunes in my new computer because the playlist cannot be opened in more than one iTunes or in another computer or something like that (this makes no sense). All this was to try and charge my ipod that does not seem to want to charge. It connects perfectly to the computer and I can see the initial blinking yellow lights on the back and front, but won't charge. I am currently working on this problem from other community discussion topics.

Sync works the same way it always has, connect the device, select the content desired to sync and sync.
All the media should be in iTunes already, iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
If this is a new computer, move the content from the old computer to the new computer.

  • Ipod shuffle 1st gen and ipos nano 1st gen

After installing new itunes update for the new ipod nano 2nd gen i am unable to get several songs that were in my library for years to transfer to the 1st gen ipods .. the message i get is that certain songs (and I get a list in itunes) are not authorized to be transfered to my ipod.
I have been unable to find help anywhere w/ this.
Did this happen to anyone else?

  • IPod Shuffle (1st Gen) is no longer seen in iTunes or Windows (Vista)

I had it working flawlessly in Vista with iTunes then yesterday I plugged the shuffle in and Vista said it was an unidentified usb device. So iTunes no longer sees it and it doesn't even come up in Device Manager.
    Things I've done so far...
    1. Reset the device (several times now)
    2. Uninstalled iTunes and Apple Mobile Devise service and reinstalled current version.
The only response I get out of this iPod now is the orange charge light when I plug it in, even though the device is charged and plays fine. I've tried all USB ports as well and still Vista has no idea it is connected.
I tried it on my other XP Pro machine and it detects fine. iTunes recognizes it as well and asks to sync it so I know the issue is not the iPod Shuffle itself.
    Any ideas?

    Hi hmacross,
I tried one of the options in the link you provided, 'iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB'. It didn't work but now my Shuffle is flashing orange as it does when it is charging on my XP machine. So at least we have power to it I think.
I still have do detection in Windows Explorer, Device Manager or iTunes however.
All the other options I have already tried.
    Still scratching my head lol.
Thanks for you help anyway. Got any other ideas?

  • IPod shuffle (1st gen) not recognised

    Right, here is my problem:
When i connect my ipod to my computer (or any other) i get an error warning saying that the "usb device is not recognized....". It doesn't appear in 'My Computer' at all, and i have already tried the ipod shuffle reset utility for windows, but because it is not found at all on the computer, the reset utility cannot find it either!
Now where this seems to differ from previous problems that people have mentioned is that my ipod will still play the music that i presently have on it with no problems and will charge with no problems either (its fully charged).
At the time this problem started, i was using the most up to date version of software for it and for itunes.
Any help would be so greatly appreciated

This is going to sound hokey, like one of those ‘cheat codes’ where you move your joystick right, right, left, up, down, right, right and then hit the “A” button. Desperate times calls for desperate measures. Don’t know if this is going to work for you but no harm in trying.
    1. Open the latest version of Itunes.
    2. Turn on your Ipod Shuffle quickly (you should see the green led light briefly) and plug it right away into the USB port.
    3. Then turn off your Ipod almost just as quickly.
Hopefully, the Ipod should blink orange continuously and Itunes will say that the Ipod is corrupted. “Do you wish to reset it to the original factory settings?”
    D*#n right.
    4. This will delete everything on your Ipod, but more importantly, after this, the Ipod starts charging with a constant orange light.
    5. Then start transferring your music back onto the Ipod.
I’ve played around looking to fix this frickin’ problem forever…would’ve been better buying a 2nd generation Shuffle for $79, but then I see the problems on this forum with it as well. The only good to come out of this was that I no longer feel alone with this problem.
Apple says to download the latest Itunes and do the 5 R’s, blah, blah, blah. I have a frickin’ Shuffle – I just want to listen to it when I ride my bike for 3+ hours, recharge it via a USB, and do it again. I don’t want to download a 50MB application (Itunes) that supports video and does all this other crap, when it was what, originally a 30+ meg. app? Yea, I know there are other Ipods out there - how about a simple Itunes for the simpler applications?
And then doing the 5 R’s mostly involve a fully charged Ipod – how often does that happen? Frickin’ Apple. They just don’t understand. 90 days for support? Based on the forum, some of them do conk out within 90 days of purchase, but a majority will occur after the 90 days. I’ve charged mine for less than 50 cycles, and now, only my “Random” setting will play. I’m not even going to bother looking for a fix for that problem. After my Shuffle dies for good, I’ll get another non-Apple mp3 player that won’t give me hassles.
If the above solution works, great. If it doesn’t, sorry – I tried. I can tell you about how the Ipod will have a momentary charge (orange light) when plugged in and you turn your computer on for the first time (but not when ‘Restarting’) and other nuances from my many experiments, but the above is the only thing I was able to do to get it to work. The whole purpose of the above ‘solution’ is to try to help Itunes communicate with your otherwise dead Ipod (red battery status indicator). One without any lights at all is probably truly dead. Good luck.

  • IPod Shuffle ( 1st gen ) sync musics

I can't sync songs with my iPod shuffle. I tried to reset the settings but it don't solve anything except for formatting the whole ipod. When i opened it again with iTunes, I put an iPod's and uncheck the autofill of random songs. After updating, I tried to put new songs and it updated but it don't transfer the songs. When I do chose the autofill with random songs at new reset. It fills it with songs but when I tried to delete the songs in iPod. It don't disappear and it always remain in it and the only way to delete those is to reset again my iPod. By the way, I have the latest software for the iPod shuffle.

Okay. I managed to work with it and I solved it. Haha

  • How long does it (ipod shuffle 1st gen) take to charge

I have an iphone 4, and this morning i found my old ipod shuffle. How long does it take? i want to know if it still works.

It could take up to 30 minutes before the Shuffle shows any signs of life.  I assume you are using the same cable that was originally included with the Shuffle when you purchased it?
How long has it been since it was last used.  If it's been an extended period of time, the battery may be totally shot on the device as an iPod's batteries need constant activity in order to build and maintain a charge.

  • IPod Shuffle (1st gen) is not longer recognized by computer or iTunes

I have had no problems with my iPod until this morning. I have the latest version of iTunes and recharge my battery pretty regularly on the shuffle. However, this morning my iPod isn't showing up in iTunes or on my USB port. It's not even charging. I tried 4 out of the 5 R's, but can't do the last because the iPod icon isn't showing up. It still plays songs with the battery life left.
Checked the USB port, and it's working fine. Battery light on shuffle is now red. What do I do?

  • When I try to add songs to my iPod shuffle 1st gen, an error (-50) occurs

Hello. Each time I try to add songs from iTunes to my iPod (1st generation), an error called (-50) occurs and prevents any song from being transferred to the iPod. I have reinstalled iTunes and updated it several times, besides restoring the iPod itself before each new attempt, but the advice about that error always appears again.
Does anyone know any solution to this?
    Thank you.

On an XP system, we'd better check the possibilities from the following document:

  • IPod Shuffle (1st Generation) NEW ERROR: recognize and charging problems

    I'm tired. I'm quite tired.
I struggled for a month to resolve the 1418 error (My previous posts had thousand of views, until Apple removed them...).Finally Apple gave us the iPod Shuffle reset utility, which worked fine... My iPod Shuffle resurrected.
But now it's dead again, like many other users:
1)When I attach the iPod Shuffle to any PC, or to the wall charger, or to whatever, it's not recognized. Tried all
    2)It still plays music

    Here another one.
1st gen iPod Shuffle, stopped working after update to iTunes 7.0.x, which was basically forced to my system.
Every time I plugged my iPod in, it said: "Do you wanna update? Latest version? Get along? Do not think you can do without this update?".
I eventually agreed to upgrade my software, since it 'would update my iPod to the latest firmware'.
    Well, it did not.
    It killed my iPod Shuffle.
I see you have the same thing here.
So, what's the procedure to get a working one in exchange?
Since this is Apple's fault, I expect there to be a procedure for it?
