IPod shuffle(2nd gen) is not recognised by Windows XP

I instaled iTunes software from the website
and transfered the songs to the iPod.
When i unpluged the iPod and turned it ON, the green light on one side is glowing continuously.
I neither responded to any of the button press.
When I plugged it in again, the system was not able to recognise the device.
Do help me resolve the issue.
Thanks in advance

  • Ipod shuffle (2nd gen.) not recognized by my powerbook (g4)

My new iPod shuffle (2nd gen.) not recognized by my powerbook (g4). Get error message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". It works just fine with my iMac (g4). If iTunes is open the shuffle is just not recognized. Have tried my shuffle on a friend's PowerBook (Intel based) and it works fine. His new shuffle behaves exactly like mine on my powerbook. All other uses with USB ports appear fine - flash drives etc. I did initialize a new flash drive with 128 bit encryption before the 1st attempt to initialize my new shuffle.
    Help! Thanks

Does it show in Apple System Profiler's USB tree? Have you tried connecting it (through its dock) to another computer?

  • Ipod Shuffle (2nd Gen) Does Not Recognize Songs

My Ipod Shuffle (2nd Gen) does not recognize the songs that are loaded on it. When I turn it on after a full charge the green light stays on for about 5 seconds then turns off. When I press play, the colors flash orange and green indicating there are no songs loaded. I've tried all the recommendations and also seen that people with similar problems have not been able to resolve the problem as well. I've seen some cases where the use of the Ipod Rest Utility is recommended however I have Vista on my PC and there is no version available for that o/s that I could find. Does anyone have any other suggestions. Thanks.
Ipod Shuffle (2nd Gen)   Windows Vista

I changed the iPod to Disk mode and it just blinks orange while it is connected to the PC. It says that it is synched on the PC screen but I thought the blinking orange light means that it isn't. I took it back out of disk mode. The original problem still exists...when I turn it on, the green light stays lit for 5 seconds then there's no light at all....when I press play the lights alternate orange and green indicating no music is loaded which is wrong since it shows all my songs that are loaded when it is connected to my PC. What a mess.

  • Ipod shuffle 2nd gen does not charge on new 5W USB power adapter

    Hi,
my perfectly functional ipod shuffle 2nd gen with original dock will not charge with the new Continental Europe 5W USB power adapter, even though the specs of the power adapter include the 2nd generation shuffle. Shuffle will blink orange three times, longer than normal blinking, and then do nothing. probably nothing I can do about it, but worth a note. The US model of the new 5W adapter does not include the 2nd gen shuffle, so maybe it is an error on the apple specs page.
Maybe the 2nd gen needs more than 5W to charge?

indeed, it needs the bigger 12 Watt Adapter and the apple site is wrong.

  • My ipod shuffle 2nd gen is not connecting to computer right.

My ipod suffle second gen is flashing red 3 times and then showing clear, like its off. After the flash's the computer is not recognizeing it.what happened?

My guess, based on your info and the fact that the shuffle is an older model, is that the shuffle's battery is worn out and not holding a charge.  When you plug it in, it functions because it is getting power from the USB connection and appears to charge.  When you disconnect it, it goes dead because battery does not hold the charge.
Since you have already tried doing a Restore, the problem is hardware and not software.  Unless you want to do the work yourself
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+iPod+Shuffle+2nd+Generation+Battery+Repla cement/3656/1
the cost for replacing the battery probably exceeds the $50 for a new 4th gen shuffle.

  • Help!!! My Ipod Shuffle 2nd Gen is not powering up...

Help!!! My 2nd gen IPod Shuffle is not powering up or charging ...Every time when I plug it in, it simply flashes in Orange for 5 seconds & it goes blank. No other light comes on, it refuses to turn on.
It also shows up as 'device not recognised' on my PC...It is not charging either. I am unable to acces it via itunes...also I tried my friends same model shuffle & it works just fine & perfect. I used my charger cable & PC on her shuffle and it works out fine. So I figured it has to be a problem with MY IPod...Please help me since this keeps me going everyday...I cant live without my music... I Have tried to reset it, but it doesnt seem to work since no lights are flashing...

You have done good troubleshooting and have ruled out possible causes, such as a software issue on the computer, problem with USB port, and faulty USB cable.  The remaining cause is a problem on the shuffle, and since this is a 2nd gen shuffle, which is now about 5 or 6 years old (and it sounds like you use it a lot), the most likely explanation is that the shuffle's battery is worn out and has exceeded the max number of charging cycles.

Do Not Use Latest Version Of Itunes see below from other thread on same topic. For some reason apple does not support the shuffle with newer versions of Itunes.

I tried everything. Then, this worked for me (I have a PC)
    1. Uninstall iTunes completely
    2. Delete any remaining iTunes files (you may have a library file in My Documents > My Music > iTunes
    3. Restart your computer
    4. Install iTunes 7.0.2 (www.oldapps.com for the version)
Downgrade, it will change your life. This version runs faster than 7.5, works fine with the iPod, and even managed to find all the artwork for my songs - which the later versions never did. I thought newer versions were supposed to be better?

  • IPod Shuffle(2nd Gen) will not sync or restore

I've done it all. Tried different USB slots. The 5 R's. Reset Utility. Made the appleipod.bat file and ran it with the .dll's....
My iPod wont sync and allow new music to be put on. I was able to reset the iPod with the reset utility and I have no music on it anymore. Can't sync it with new music either.
Was the shuffle amde to be a obsolescence device? Meaning it was intentionally made to break after just 1 month of using it?
    Anyone know any fixes?

  • Ipod Shuffle 2nd Gen won't turn on

    Hey,
Just recently found my mom's unused Ipod Shuffle 2nd Gen, sealed, not opened and still in the box. So i wanted to check it out see if it works, it connected to the computer just fine, put all the music on, charged fully and the green light was on while it was connected to the computer, the problem is as soon as i unplugged the ipod from the computer it wont respond the the on and off switch, its suppose to give out a green light when its on right? i dont see any.
Can anyone tell me what the problem is here?
    Thanks

Lithium-ion batteries, if left in a completely discharged state for an extended period, can become unable to hold a charge.  That 2nd gen shuffle has been sitting in its unopened box for about five or six years.  If that's the case here, it  operates fine while getting power from the USB port, and appears to charge, but it is unable to hold that charge when disconnected from power.  Therefore, nothing happens when you move the power switch.  Here is a document from Apple about batteries
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html
    (see Long Term Storage section)
You can try doing a Restore on the shuffle in iTunes, in case the problem is related to software.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Settings screen, when it is selected in iTunes.

  • Ipod shuffle 2nd Gen- Not Recognised by Windows 8.1 Laptop

    Hi All,
I have HP Laptop with .... Windows 8.1 / 4gb RAM / Intel i3 / 64-bit, i am trying to connect my Ipod shuffle  (2nd gen) to laptop but its failed in Itunes (i got updated one) as well as in Windows..
at the same time, the same ipod i can connect and use at windows XP computer.
is anyone there to help me out.
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, I use a Mac; I'm not a day-to-day Windows user...  When you connect your USB flash drive, it should appear as a device in a Windows view, like the one you provided as a screenshot.  When you connect your shuffle, if things are working normally, the shuffle should similarly appears as a device.  Whether it is recognized as an iPod or not, it should appear as a device.  If it does not, that means the USB (3.0) port (on your laptop) does not see that you have connected the shuffle.  If it does (appear in Windows), that's good news.  You may be able to trouble-shoot and fix the problem, using this document
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes - Apple Support
I suggested trying a self-powered USB 2.0 hub (if you have one), because the hub should be recognized as a device by Windows.  In the screenshot, it looks like there are two hubs already connected ("Generic USB Hub"), unless that is something internal that is identified as a "hub."  If a hub is older and works with the shuffle, then your laptop may be able to connect to the shuffle through the hub.
Here are two other things you can try.
    (1) You said the shuffle still works with your older PC.  Connect it to iTunes on that computer, and go to the shuffle's Settings screen (select shuffle in iTunes).  There is a checkbox for Enable disk use.  Check that box and Apply.  With this setting enabled, the shuffle acts like a USB flash drive (to Windows).  Maybe that will let Windows see it, and then iTunes will also see it (as an iPod).  NOTE:  When disk use is enabled, you need to Eject the iPod in iTunes before physically disconnecting it, because the iPod's disk is continuously mounted by the system.
    (2) If the above does not help, connect it to iTunes on the older PC, and do a Restore on the shuffle.  This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.
Restoring iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
It's a long shot, but maybe there is some kind of odd data corruption on the shuffle's storage that is causing the laptop to not see it (even though the old PC can see it fine).  After doing the Restore on the older PC, connect it to the laptop.

  • IPod Shuffle (2nd Gen) not charging, just blinks orange once.

    Hi,
I was using this iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen for almost 4 years without any problem, After I got iPod Touch 4G a year back, I stopped using shuffle for almost a year. When I looked at it recently, of course, to give it to my niece - it's not responding. Thinking that battery drained, I tried to charge the shuffle using the then supplied USB doc.
When connected it just blinked orange once - only once that's it. Nothing happend. Even after keeping it for a whole night, nothing happend. It doesn't play, iTunes won't recognize, but windows 7 says "USB Device not recognized", and it was showed under Generic USB Hub as "Unknown Device"
I used USB 2.0 port back of my computer.
Tried using 3rd gen shuffle charging cable, but this time not even the orange blink.
Tried suggested resetting option (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655), but invain.
    Any suggestions?

    If you do
Apple Menu -> About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report
to run System Information (or System Profiler), does the "iPod" appear as a connected device under
    Hardware -> USB
Try doing the above with the shuffle connected directly AND using the power USB hub you mentioned.
Have you tried connecting something else to that USB port, to confirm it is working properly?  Preferably, it should be something similar, like a USB flash drive or port-powered external drive (data storage devices that get power from the USB port).
Two other related tests...  Create a new user account in System Preferences Users & Groups pane.  The new user account can be Standard or Admin.  Log out and log in to the new user account (do not use Fast User Switching).  In the new user account, run iTunes and connect the shuffle.
And the other test.  Start up in Safe Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
Connect the shuffle while started up in safe mode, to see if it appears anywhere.  These two test are to see if you have a process running when you start up normally, that interferes with the iPod being recognized.
