Ipod shuffle being a pain

ive had my shuffle since march and has worked fine till now, whenever i attempt to switch it on, it fails to do so untill like the 100th click on the play wheel, and thats on a good day, most of the time it does not work, however it seems to switch on just fine when i plug in my battery pak, the lil bugger lights up just fine. Would it possible if apple might exchange it for me???, i still have my receipt and the packaging???.

The iPod has a 1 year limited (emphasis on limited!) warranty. You can use this link to return your shuffle to Apple and they'll send you a replacement unit:
http://depot.info.apple.com/ipodshuffle/
But because this is after the first 6 months of the warranty, you'll have to pay something like a 30$ shipping and handling fee.
Good luck!
Sara.

  • New 3rd Gen. 4 GB iPod Shuffle not being recognized by computer or iTunes

Hey everyone, I've read some of the other posts here on this thread about other people having problem getting their computer to recognize the new 4 GB iPod Shuffle when plugged into the USB drive, and it seems like I am having a very similar issue. I just received my iPod in the mail a few days ago and tried plugging it into the USB and got NO response whatsoever from my computer or iTunes. I am operating with Windows XP (Service Pack 3) on a Dell Inspiron Intel processor, 2 GHz with 3 GB RAM, with iTunes 8.1 (just updated). When I put something in my USB usually I hear a noise (sounds like DO-do ha) which tells me that my laptop recognizes whatever is plugged in, and usually I get a little box in the bottom right hand part of the screen that says it's been plugged in. I didn't get any of this when I plugged it in.
When I first opened the box I turned the shuffle on and the light went green for 1 second, orange for 1 second, red for one second, then dead..I suppose this is expected since I figured it's new and needs to be charged, so I turned the shuffle off, plugged the USB into the earphone socket then into my USB, and then turned the shuffle on, and got nothing but the same sequence of lights. It's one thing if iTunes just didn't recognize the shuffle, but I checked the Device Manager and My Computer and the USB drive wasn't even listing the shuffle as being plugged in..maybe the USB cable that came with it is faulty?? I read all of the technical troubleshooting notes on here and tried the 5 R's and nothing is working at all..
I do have one guess about this though..I also have an 80 GB iPod 5th generation that I've used for over a year now for my car and that plugs into the USB fine with its respective cable and is recognized by iTunes..my question is, can my iTunes only recognize one iPod at a time? Does it reject the shuffle because iTunes is only allowed to sync to one iPod per account? If this is true, is there a way around this so it can sync both, or can I have two iTunes accounts on the same computer? But why does the computer not even recognized it when plugged in? Hopefully it is just the cable that is damaged and not the device..wow this was long, but any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

    According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495

Has this iPod Shuffle ever been able to successfully connect with this PC and sync with iTunes or is the first time you are connecting the iPod Shuffle to this PC?

I was recently given my friends old ipod shuffle, but it is not being recognized by my computer at all, is there something that I can do?

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting? Did he give you the cable that was originally included witht the Shuffle? I ask because if you are using a 3G/4G cable it will not work with the 2G Shuffle.
Have you worked through all the sugguestions here as necessary?

  • IPod Shuffle not being recognized by my PC

Hi, I just bought 2 Apple iPod Shuffles from eBay. I have a slight problem. When I plug them into my USB port, iTunes does not recognize them. They show up in My Computer though. When I try to re-install/reset the factory settings it says "Plug in a device" or something like that. My guess is that I bought them from a Mac user.
My question is: How might I go about converting it from Mac to Windows?
:: I am not sure this is the problem though, this is just a guess ::
    -Thanks

I have a similar problem, my iPod Shuffle is being read in my Windows 2000 but in the iTunes it's not being recognized.
When I try to play the iPod, the green and orange lights blink simultaneously.
When I try and double-click on the icon for it in My Computer, it's saying that it can't be accessed because of an I/O device error.
Finally, I come to the site and get the latest update and when I try to update, it's saying that there's an iPod service error.
Hope that generalizes everything of what I'm saying and similar to Niko's problem as well.

  • Ipod shuffle generation 2 not being recognized at all

I just bought a ipod shuffle generation 2, and i went ahead and installed itunes 7.02. I then connected the ipod, but windows did not ask me to install any new software. I then went to Device Manager and looked to see if the ipod was being recognized, and it shows up as a yellow question mark called unknown device. I tried to reinstall the drivers, but when windows does a driver scan, it says the following...
"The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software"
The ipod worked on my dads laptop, but my will not computer doesn't want to recognize the ipod at all. The ipod did not come with any software, so I am trying to use itunes 7.02 as it requires. If anyone would be willing to try and help me, I would be very grateful. I'm running windows xp pro.

I have no idea what Dell or Apple told you, so we'll start from the beginning.
First read this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136 I am assuming since you talked to Dell your USB Driver is up-to-date. Reload your USB Driver anyway follwing the steps in this article.
Next disconnect any USB Device you have connected other than your keyboard and mouse.
Connect your iPod to a USB port on the rear of your computer and see if your computer can recognize it. If it can, right click on the iPod and change the driver letter to a higher letter (M or P) and then reformat your iPod (FAT32 format).
If iTunes can now see your iPod, Restore it.

That is about normal. You can maximize battery life by changing some settings. See:
    Apple - Batteries - iPod
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

A third-party place like the following will replace your battery for less. Google for more.

Replace the battery yourself if you are up to it. You can purchase a replacment for about $10

  • HT1510 My iPod shuffle is not being recognized by my computer. I have the original USB cord but when I plug it into my computer there is no recognition. The first time I plugged it in it recognized but never again.

My iPod shuffle is not being recognized by my computer. It is flashing orange and when plugged in with the original USB cable nothing happens to show the computer recognizes it.

Flashing orange usually means it is being recognized by the computer.  The flashing means do not disconnected, because the shuffle's "disk" is mounted.
In iTunes (with the shuffle connected), when you look in the sidebar (left side of window), under DEVICES, the iPod is not shown there?  Does it say DEVICES in the sidebar?

  • Can't the iPod nano 7th gen. VoiceOver function identify which language that is being used? My iPod Shuffle can.

I am very satisfied with my iPod SHUFFLE (last version), especially with the VoiceOver function which is (quite) able to  identify correctly which language is being used in every song: For a Norwegian artist / a song in Norwegian, the artist and title is pronounced in Norwegian; for a French artist / a song in French, the artist and title is pronounced in French; for an English artist / a song in English, the artist and title is pronounced in English etc. A really impressive and useful function!
I was very surprised and dissatisfied to find that my new iPod nano 7th generation does not seem to work this way: I am able to select the language to be used in VoiceOver, but then this language is used in everything that is pronounced. Most of my music is in English language, so this is what I have selected. But to hear Norwegian artists' names and Norwegian titles pronounced with an English-speaking voice is quite disturbing.
I believe I have been through all possible settings in the nano and in iTunes to correct this, but I am unable to find a solution. I have also asked people at an Apple store, but they were unable to help. Can anybody help? Or is it really possible that this excellent function has been removed?
(Could it be that the previous version of iTunes could fix the problem? I have installed the last one, v. 11.0.1.12.)

  • IPOD SHUFFLE PLUGGED INTO USB HUB BUT NOT BEING READ

I recently got a 4 port USB hub because I needed extra usb ports. I mainly use the hub to connect my flash drive, external hard drive and my IPOD shuffle, but the only thing that isn't getting read by the computer is the shuffle. Everything else that is conncected to the hub is being read by windows. The shuffle just sits there, when plugged into the hub, blinking a green light (which doesn't look normal). The hub itself is a 2.0 hub. HELP!

I had the same problem. FIRST, I had to remove the software that came with the original ipod shuffle. 2005/06/26, and replace it with the older version 2005/01/11 that I found on this site: http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/220012/apple-ipod-ipod-mini-ipod-photo-ipod-sh uffle-software-updater-2005-01-11-windows-2000-xp-free-download.html
Once in a while it still doesn't recognize the ipod, but I think that's a usb port problem. Unplug it and plug it in again and it should be fine. Just make sure you remove the original software first in the add/remove programs section!
Also, if Mac is so good (according to some people on this site), why did Mac start using the Windows XP software and not vice-versa!!! haha
    Good Luck!!!

  • IPod shuffle not being recognised in iTunes in a new country

Hi there, I initially used my iPod shuffle (4th Generation) in Australia on my laptop and it was recognised in iTunes with no problem. Now I want to connect my iPod shuffle on a new computer in Greece. My iPod shuffle however is being recognised in 'my computer', but not in iTunes.
Help would be most appreciated ASAP, what should I do?
    Thank you!

The flashing light is good.  It means that the system (the OS) is seeing the iPod's "disk," and it is actually mounted.  When the light is flashing, it means DO NOT DISCONNECT (eject shuffle before physically disconnecting).
When do get this error code?  Is it when the iPod is syncing with iTunes?
If you have other USB devices connected, you may want to try it after shutting down (powering off) the computer and disconnecting all USB devices, including any hub.  You can leave standard keyboard and mouse connected, if normally used.  If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter, so that it's not running on battery power.  Do this to reset your shuffle

Start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer.  Any difference?

  • IPod Shuffle: No recognition but somehow still being read?

I have a iPod Shuffle (2gen) that I ended up getting for free from someone else. Problem is that it doesn't show up on my Mac (laptop) or iTunes whatsoever but from what I see when I look at the iPod it's blinking orange so it's being read? I just bought a new dock for it and I've got the newest version of iTunes that my system will support. And when I take it to the PC downstairs it reads on the PC but when I open files it says there are none on it when there most certainly is (though that might be because the PC does not have iTunes on it and therefore does not read the files). Every once and a while when I plug it into the USB of my Mac it'll get a Low Power output thing but that's only sometimes and of course the other half of the time it does nothing anyway. I've read and done what I could for it but I'm new to the quirks of ipods let alone any sort of music player.
    How do I fix this?

    Hi Jonathan,
Sounds like your iPod is beyond the kind of help you can find here. You've done all the fixes I would suggest. Thankfully, the iPod shuffle has a one year warranty, so I would sent it in asap and you'll get a nice new iPod in no time flat!
