IPod Shuffle Crashed My Computer

When I plugged my iPod Shuffle into the dock, it created a static shock that has crashed my computer! I have seen several similar problems, but I want to make sure that this is not just me. Help & Support suggested I post here to see how vast this problem is and then possibly force Mac to do something about it.

  • My computer is not recognizing my ipod shuffle.  The computer says to use the ipod reset utility.  When I tried doing this it told me that it was for a 32 bit version which I obviously do not have.  My computer is only a few months old.  What do I do now?

My computer is not recognizing my ipod shuffle.  The computer says to use the ipod reset utility.  When I did that it came up with another message that it was only good for a 32 bit version.  I guess I do not have a 32 bit version.  I just purchased my computer a few months ago and it uses the windows 7 operating system.  What do I do now?

    Not sure if this helps:-
The music files, were they bought from your iTunes account or did someone gift them to you after buying from the iTunes account? If they are yours you can download them again if you clear or de-authorise the ipod, it has to be done by whoever gave you the ipod to do this (the registered  owner). If they were bought for you on another itunes account I don't think Apple let you use them as they are copyrighted and they don't belong to you, they belong to the person who bought them. If the music files where ripped from music cd's then click and drag them to a new folder on your desktop and have the person who gave you the ipod to de-authorise and unregister it. Then you re register it and put your files back from your desktop folder in your iTunes folder and synch. Hopefully that would work.  Any files which you did not buy, I would not know how get around this, best bet is to take it to you nearest Apple  Store and explain that they were gifted to you and ask how you can use them.  The best way to gift music files is to buy the gift tokens and give these. Hope above helps.

  • HT1510 how do I continue to charge my ipod shuffle once the computer automatically turns off?

How do I continue to charge my ipod shuffle once the computer automatically turns off from lack of imput.

If the shuffle's light turns off, it is not charging.  The computer needs to be active, so that the USB port has power.  You'll need to set the computer so that it turns off the display after inactivity, but the computer remains "awake."
Or, you can get a USB power adapter, like this
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD810LL/A/apple-5w-usb-power-adapter
and charge the shuffle on the power adapter.

  • HT1719 how do you connect an ipod shuffle to the computer

i have no idea how to connect my ipod shuffle to my computer. please help

You plug the end that looks like a headphone plug into the iPod, then you plug the USB end (the rectangular/square end) into the computer.

  • HT1202 why can't I charge me ipod shuffle on another computer? My "home computer" is the one at work.

why can't I charge me ipod shuffle on another computer? My "home computer" is the one at work.

So you are trying to connect your iPod Shuffle to another computer you don't normally sync it with is that correct?  And it won't charge for some reason?  How are you connecting it?  To a USB or a USB port located directly on the PC?

  • Can I put music from iPod Shuffle, synced to computer A, onto iPhone4, synced to computer B?

Can I put music from old iPod Shuffle, synced to computer A, onto new iPhone4, synced to computer B?  Both devices and both computers belong to me.  Computers are not on same LAN.

You can if the music was puchased with the same AppleID.
Synch the iPod Shuffle with computer B to get it's songs onto that computer.  Then resynch the iPhone4 to computer B.

  • My iPod Shuffle fried my computer

A few months ago, I noticed a couple times that when I put my iPod Shuffle on the charger, my computer would crash. Thankfully, I was always able to turn it on again. I noticed there was a pattern; it would only crash when the charger was already plugged into the USB port - as soon as I put the iPod on the metal post, my computer turned off. However, if the iPod was already on the charger and I plugged it in the USB port, everything was fine. Yesterday, without thinking, I did it the 'wrong way' and bam! my computer shut off. Unfortunately, this time around, it wouldn't turn on again. It's completey fried. I searched online and noticed similar threads in these discussion forums. I know the exact same thing has happened to other people, and I'm wondering if anyone out there has been successful at getting the company to pay for the damage. It's unlikely, I know, but I'm hoping it's possible. I'm pretty upset about it, as you can imagine. I've had this computer for 4 years and 4 months, and I've never had a problem with it, other than it turning off due to the iPod in the past. I took it to a pc service company yesterday and they said it would cost a few hundred to repair, and that I'm better off just buying a new one. I can't stress enough how wonderful the computer has been, nothing wrong with it at all up to this point, so I really don't want to part with it.

thats interesting ive herd many reports about ipods shutting off computers but never frying them. urprobably better of buying a new ipod instead of a computer but thats just scary

  • Ipod shuffle recognized by computer but not by itunes

    Hi,
I hope someone can help. I have just purchased an ipod shuffle and went through all the installation okay to find the ipod just blinks in orange mode and is not recognised or picked up by itunes. There is no symbol present in the sources bar.
The computer has picked it up and describes it as a usb disc drive. The drivers for it look to be windows ones and can be found in the device manager under disc drives. I tried to change the drivers but found it just kept replacing them with windows ones.
I downloaded the help pages and went through the lenghty process of uninstalling ipod and itunes and reinstalling them, making sure my norton security center was disabled, but I still encounter the same problem.
Is there anyone who has had similar problems or can advise me what to do please.
    many thanks.

    Hi
Did you get any further with this? I bought a shuffle today, and have exactly the same symptoms, haven't found a solution yet.
    Thanks.

  • Not showing "transfer" option for iPod Shuffle to other computer

I have two authorized computers-a Windows XP (the first) and a Windows Vista I just authorized with iTunes 8. My iPod Shuffle works with the first computer (the XP) and will connect with it, but with the Vista, it only shows the "erase and sync" and "cancel" options in the pop-up box when I plug it in to my computer. How do I fix this problem?

If it helps, the computer it is not working on is a Toshiba Satellite.

  • IPod Shuffle crashes when switching to shuffle

    Hello,
in our company, all employees got iPod shuffles at christmas. Mine worked for about 1 week. It played songs and when I switched to shuffle mode I heard these random tones and when I switched to continuous mode, I heard the non random tones.
Now it doesn't play these tones anymore. And when I switch between continuous and shuffle, it crashes about 3-4 secends after switching.
I tried everything to make it work again.
Recovered it in iTunes more than one time. Formatted it with disk utility and reinstalled the software in iTunes... also more than one time.
All with no success. There is also no reset utility from apple on their pages.
What else can I do with that piece of... umhh... metal, to make it work again?!?!
It's really annoying! An email to apple was answered with a standard response, saying that I should call the hotline. Not very customer friendly. I wonder what deaf-dumb persons should do (with other products than ipods ).
Maybe someone had the same problems and found a solution. Otherwise only a have a nice, little, blue aluminum bottle opener...
    Kind regards
    Kai

  • Transfering music from your ipod shuffle to your computer

    I AM STUCK!!
My grandpa is so eager to make me get this done, so i would like a response sometime today.
How do you transfer music from your ipod to your computer?
I gave my grandpa an ipod shuffle for his birthday and we got all the songs that are now on his ipod are from my itunes account.
    WE BOTH HAVE DIFFERENT MUSIC!!
all i am trying to do is change the format of my music to mp3 so he will be able to play his music in his car.
i have went into prefrences, import settings, blaa blaa. Then when i right clicked on my music thats in "on this ipod" it only had 3 options.
is there either an easy way to change the format without syncing music onto my computer or how do you sync the music from your ipod to your computer?

When you purchase music, you do not purchase the right to distribute that music to others.
    This is illegal.

  • TS1369 this is the first time that i'm trying to connect my new ipod shuffle and my computer won't recognize the driver?

My computer won't recognize the driver for my Ipod Shuffle. This is a brand new ipod so why is there an issue?

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes and all other Apple software to see if that makes a difference?  Use the exact instructions in this article.

  • Using iPod & iPod Shuffle on Same Computer

I have had my IPod for over a year and recently received an IPod Shuffle. I would like to use both on the computer that I currently have iTunes installed on, but can't figure it out:(
When I attempt to install the software for iTunes, it brings up all my information from my Ipod...Help!!!
    1. Do I even need to install iTunes again? To me it looks like the same disk that came w/my iPod a year ago.
    2. If I do need to install the disk, do I enter my iPod Shuffle's information in there? Therefore, removing my iPod information?
    3. Will I lose any of my music that is already loaded in my Libary on iTunes?
Sorry for asking the basic 101 of apple but I couldn't find anything about this on the website or discussions.

    Nikki,
Welcome to the discussions. All you need is the most recent version of the iPod updater. You don't need to reinstall iTunes.
