IPod Shuffle "Disk Enabled" option

I have a first generation iPod Shuffle. It has been updated to 1.1.5 which is the latest version for 1st gen Shuffle. This Shuffle has "Disk Enabled". I also am using a Mac. I notice when I "Get Info" on the Shuffle that the Shuffle is formatted as MS-DOS FAT 32. Is this correct? I'm on a Mac. Shouldn't it be formmatted as HFS+?
Thanks!

  • Disk Enable with iPod 2nd Generation

Please forgive me for my ignorance--I am a PC user moving into the Mac world. My iPod is showing up as a USB drive which I want it to do (I have selected Disk Enable).
However, when I move music onto the drive using Windows Explorer, my iPod will not play the files and blinks saying the iPod is empty.
Also, when I put music on the iPod from inside iTunes, the files do not show up under the iPod drive in Windows Explorer.
With other MP3 players, I did not have to use iTunes and I could see all the files within Windows Explorer. How come I can't with the iPod?
    Please help--I'm frustrated!
    Thank you.

So, I cannot drag and drop music onto the iPod drive in Windows Explorer?
    Basically, you can't.
Shouldn't music downloaded from iTunes show up on the drive?
It shouldn't, unless you know exactly where to look.
why would the Disk Enable option even be there?
So the iPod shuffle can be used as an ordinary flash drive for storing data or transferring it between computers.

  • How to put IPOD Shuffle I into Disk Mode ?

How to put Ipod Shuffle I into diskmode ?

When connected, in iTunes click on shuffle icon in Devices, then click on Settings tab. Scroll down and click the square in front of "Enable disk use", the adjust slider for amount of flash memory to reserve for data. Click Apply, and you're done!
When you use iPod shuffle as a disk, the status light on the front of iPod shuffle blinks orange continuously, and the iPod shuffle disk icon appears on the desktop on the Mac, or as the next available drive letter in Windows Explorer on a Windows PC. Drag files to and from iPod shuffle to copy them.
Ejecting iPod shuffle Important: If the iPod shuffle status light is blinking orange, you must eject iPod shuffle before disconnecting it from your computer. If you don’t eject iPod shuffle before disconnecting it, you could damage files on iPod shuffle.
    To eject iPod shuffle:
Click the Eject (C ) button next to iPod shuffle in the iTunes Source list. If you’re using a Mac, you can also eject iPod shuffle by dragging the iPod shuffle icon on the desktop to the Trash.
If you’re using a Windows PC, you can eject iPod shuffle by clicking the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray and selecting your iPod shuffle.

  • My iPod shuffle won't be safely ejected from my computer.

Some how my iPod shuffle's Enable Disk Use got enabled and my didn't know it and I just disconnected my iPod without safely ejecting it. Now everytime I take it out it says error. When I put it in the orange light on the front keeps blicking continuesly. I click safely remove hardware like the manual said but it wont stop so I can safely disconnect. My iPod shuffle has been like this for a week now and it is making me upset. If anyone has any idea how to help, please reply to this post. Thank you.

I suggest you restore your Shuffle using the following procedure: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300701. The latest iPod updater for the Shuffle is 2005-11-17. Once you have the Shuffle restored open, iTunes and, with the Shuffle plugged-in, click the Options button and make sure that "Enable disk use" is deselected.

  • IPod Shuffle cannot eject because of problem..

It said it can't be removed because the items in the Shuffle are being used by another application. What does this mean?

I get this error when I have a Windows Explorer window open that is browsing the iPod Shuffle disk drive. If you have that open, try closing it.

  • Can I use my iPod Shuffle as a U-disk ?

I plugged my iPod Shuffle into the USB socket and it worked properly with my iTune. However, I couldn't find my iPod in window explorer. Is it normal ? Can I use it as Udisk ?
    iPod Shuffle   Windows XP

    Hi,
If you are able to listen to the songs from the iPod shuffle then it is normal.
To use the iPod shuffle as a USB disk, in iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > click on iPod (make sure that the iPod shuffle is connected to the computer)
then check the option "Enable Disk Use" and slide the slider to the left or right depending upon the data you want to store in the iPod shuffle.
Post back if you have any doubts.

  • Itunes-enabling your ipod for disk use

When I put my ipod on my computer and itunes loads, it recognizes my ipod, when I click on that drive in the source window, I see my options, and it says that it has enabled disk use...but when I go to my computer, I see no music files, and I am trying to get my music files onto an external hard drive. I have tried other software programs to help w/this, but the programs can not find any music files on the ipod drive.
I can not manually uncheck the option in itunes as it does not work as a functional option, I can check & uncheck other options in itunes for my ipod just not("enable disk use").
Has apple put a restriction on this? I went to their site where they gave a video tutorial on how to enable that feature in itunes, but it does not work on my version, and my version is up to date as I check.
Anyway let me know if you experienced same...as I have tried several online applications that should have worked to get my music onto an external harddrive besides my ipod.
    Thanks....valleydoll

I have my songs on my ipod & my nano, they are formatted for a windows pc, but I purchased a macbook and I don't want to have to go thru 2500+ songs (on all my cds) re-importing. So I am trying to get my songs back onto my pc, so I can put them on an external hard drive, and then import them into my macbook.
I downloaded a program, but just now discovered that I needed to show my hidden files, so I now have found the music files, but now this program doesn't import m4a files, which itunes uses. so now I need to find another software that will import m4a files.
    know of any.

  • Error message Ipod shuffle cannot be synced. required disk cannot be found.

I just bought the ipod shuffle. I loaded about 110 songs. Then the next day I wanted to load just 9 more and it wouldn't let me giving me the "cannot be synced. required disk cannot be found. Please answer. This is frustrating.

I remember getting that msg periodically when I got my shuffle, but now it's extremely rare [I've not seen one in more than two months].
I donno what causes it, but what always worked for me was to eject the shuttle, un-dock it, quit iTunes, launch it again, cycle iPod power (turn it off if it's on, and on if it's off) once or twice, put it back on the dock, and voila!

  • Not showing "transfer" option for iPod Shuffle to other computer

I have two authorized computers-a Windows XP (the first) and a Windows Vista I just authorized with iTunes 8. My iPod Shuffle works with the first computer (the XP) and will connect with it, but with the Vista, it only shows the "erase and sync" and "cancel" options in the pop-up box when I plug it in to my computer. How do I fix this problem?

If it helps, the computer it is not working on is a Toshiba Satellite.

  • IPod Shuffle Working only in Disk Mode

I was gifted an iPod Shuffle. When I connect to my Mac, it is visible on Desktop. I am able to put music files into it and play the same.
But in no way I am able to see it in iTunes. Even the iPod Reset Utility is not recognizing. It simply says, connect your iPod to the computer.
    Please help

  • Can't enable iPod hard disk

I am trying to enable my 30GB iPod to be used as a hard disk to save documents. When I initially plug my iPod into my Mac, the iPod icon appears briefly on the desktop, then disappears.
Then, when I try to select "Enable Disk Use" on the iPod Summary page, I get the message "Waiting for iPod..." for about a minute, followed by "The settings were not saved for the iPod because it could not be found."
The funny thing is, when I used my iPod as a hard disk in the past it worked fine. But ever since I upgraded to iTunes version 7.0.2, it started giving me this error message and I have been unable to use my iPod as a hard disk ever since.

I haven't seen this problem since iTunes 6 and even then I was never able to find a complete answer to the "Preferences not saved" error as it was called then or any knowledge base articles with an official explanation. I did however find a workaround in a previous discussion but I don't know how if you could get it to work with iTunes 7. It involved connecting your iPod and in the short time that it was still visible on the desktop just as iTunes is opening, going to Preferences>iPod and ticking "enable disk use". You had to be quick but it could be done. In iTunes 7 it would mean quickly clicking on the iPod icon in the source list to bring up the Summary tab so you could enable disk use while the iPod was still showing on the desk top.
The only other suggestion I would have is to try restoring your iPod. restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings, so if you have songs on your iPod that aren't on iTunes you will lose them if you have no back up. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you choose no it will default to manual mode which will default "enable disk use" and from there you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

When i connect my ipod shuffle to itunes i get an error message the ipod cannot be synced, the required disk cannot be found  anyone have this happen? How do i get past it?

I seem to recall that this may be cause by overloading the USB bus (lack of power to go around).  Shut down your computer.  Reset the iPod shuffle using this procedure.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Disconnect ALL peripheral USB devices, including keyboard and mouse.  Power up the computer.  If you need your mouse, connect it and launch iTunes.  Connect the iPod shuffle to a direct USB port and try the sync again.  See if there is any difference.

  • So, I bought the iPod shuffle and when I plug it into my mac, the option of syncing doesn't appear.  What do I do?

Does the Shuffle appear ini Tunes at all?  If not try using a different USB port and double checking to make sure the other end of the syncing cable is firmly seated in the Shuffle.
