Ipod Shuffle Dock Issues

My ipod shuffle 2nd generations connector has snapped off inside the ipod shuffle itself. Rendering both the ipod and dock useless. I have tried to call customer services but apparantly my serial number is not known and they cannot help me any further. I bought it from Comet in July. Can I take it back there?
Truly awful product. I'd just bought a USB adaptor too!!

I have the same issue. Called Apple in Israel and they said the warranty doesn't cover breakage but if I can get the piece out they'll be happy to sell me a new dock.
This was my concern from the first time I saw this ridiculous design for the dock. The previous fill USB connector was great. Why couldn't they have at least gone with one of those standard small USB to big USB cables?

This is connected to a windows machine, when i look into device manager, i see the ipod but no driver associated w/ it i have tried to run the updater, it just sits at the initalizing phase !!
Can some one tell me what is wrong w/ it ? i have Also removed itunes, and ipod updater .. stopped and restarted the SVC as per the support docs on the apple site.
    Please help !!

I was having similar issues. Tried updating, resetting the shuffle like they suggest,(which I am convinced does nothing,) and finally figured out a solution on my own.
Opened up my computer on my desktop and noticed my comp. was not recognizing it as the name I gave it but rather just removeable drive F:
I tried to open it and it said there wasn't anything there. After clicking ok my comp said that drive F: was not formatted and asked if I wanted to format it. I clicked yes and was on my way again.
See if that helps some of you.

  • Ipod Shuffle Playlist Issue

I only use my ipod shuffle to listen to podcasts so I decided to organize all of them into one playlist in order not to have to jump around in voiceover. My idea with this was to create a playlist of podcasts, listen to them, and then delete that playlist and replace it with another. The problems is when I delete the playlist from my iPod it still list all of the podcasts from the deleted playlist on my iPod in the progress bar at the bottom, even though there is no podcast or playlist summary for me to access. The only way I have found to delete the listened to podcasts is to reset my ipod. Is there a way to delete a playlist and its content completely so I can put another playlist on it? I am unsure what to do since I am new to iTunes and iPod usage. Also, to clarify I am running the most current versions of iTunes and iPod software and I have the latest generation of iPod Shuffle. Thank you.

Does it connect to the car system through a USB port?  A shuffle is a simpler device (especially if it's 1st or 2nd gen), compared to a nano, so some things that a nano can do, a shuffle cannot do.  Interacting with your car audio system may be one of those things...
Also, if it connects using USB, is the car audio system also able to use a regular USB flash drive (with song files on it) connected to the same USB connection?  If it is, when you connect the shuffle, the car audio system may be treating it like it was a USB flash drive (not an iPod).  In that case, the car audio system is playing the songs (doing most of the work), and the shuffle is only acting as the data storage for the song files.
If that's the how it works with a shuffle, the "6" songs that DO play may indicate a file type.  Maybe the car audio system can only play MP3 files, not AAC files.  You shuffle may have 6 songs on it that are MP3 format, and the rest are AAC format.  You should note down what 6 songs do play on the car audio system.  In iTunes, find those songs and see if they have anything in common, such as the file type.  You can do a Get Info (from a right-click) on the song in iTunes, and look on the Summary tab of the Info window, to see the Kind.

  • HT3472 IPod shuffle headphone issues

Mine will play for a while, but then just quit playing. I will try and plug in the ipod headphones right away but they won't work either then.  Let it sit for a few hours and then it is fine.  Anyone had a similar issue?

Mine will play for a while, but then just quit playing.
Is it running out of battery power?
What happens if you turn it OFF (with the switch), wait about ten seconds, and turn it back ON?
I will try and plug in the ipod headphones right away but they won't work either then.
Can you describe that again in more detail?  Not sure what you mean...
Let it sit for a few hours and then it is fine.
Do you turn it OFF (with the switch) during that time, or does it stay ON?
If you have not already, you may want to do a Restore on the shuffle using iTunes.  For a 3rd gen shuffle, select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Summary tab.  Click the Restore button.  This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  NOTE:  If this is a 2nd gen shuffle, it's the Settings tab, not Summary.
Then, reload some songs and see if the problem recurs.

  • IPod Shuffle Skip Issues

I have had my Shuffle since November and am running into a strange problem. When using my Shuffle I can skip a random (3, 4, 12, 5, 10 ect...) number of songs in the skip mode and then all of a sudden my iPod stops working until I turn it off and back on again.
It will let me run through my songs in regular, nonskip mode but freezes everytime I use it in skip mode.
I have reset my iPod, reinstalled iTunes, restored the player and tried different USB ports in an attempt to fix the problem.
I was thinking that it could be trying to skip to a corrupt song or something like that, but I am not sure if that can cause a problem or not.
Any thoughts or ways to check for bad songs and repair them in iTunes would be greatly appriciated.
Also I am using XP Home Edition, iTunes 6, and the updater from a few days ago.
    Thanks

  • Cheap alternative to apple's trashy ipod shuffle dock

I am gonna give a try on this. It is just a toonie (2 dollars)
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4349

Let's not forget that if you use a good ole mini-to-vga adapter (Apple brand or other), you could connect an iPod, by way of the head phone jack, to composite RCA plugs on the TV. The Apple cord is 6-ft long, but longer cords (or extensions) should be available. The cost would be $20. I can tell you that shows from iTunes can look and sound great when played from an iPod to a TV when using such a cord. My TV is a 32" LCD (an inexpensive Protron model). The resolution for composite connection is standard 480 interlaced but it looks surprisingly good. I'd say nearly as good as a decent DVD player. With a video iPod, you would have portability, and the possibility of future devices (e.g., docks) that will come closer to providing functions that you really want.

  • IPod Shuffle Skipping Issue

I bought my iPod just less than 2 weeks ago and now recently it is just randomly skipping my music and not at the same point like a CD it just randomly skips everywhere, and I can hardly get it to play a whole song.
BTW I'm not pressing the buttons.
I'm thinking of returning it and maybe getting a new nano.
    What should I do?

This is happening to me as well, I have some MP3's at 64kbps, mostly audiobooks, that ALWAYS skip, i've tried breaking the 15 mb, 30-40 minute filed into 10 minute chunks, with no help, when this first happened, i got a warranty replacement, thought it was a hardware issue, some of my music mp3s do it too (Also Sprach Zarathustra, 17:29 minutes, 128 kbps). every one of these files play flawlessly in itunes and on my previos 3G and 5.5G ipods.

  • IPod Shuffle Sync issues

I have a 4G Shuffle that I had to transfer to a new laptop with Win7. I copied the songs over and have iTune 10.5.2.11 and the songs show there and on the shuffle but on shuffle they are "grayed" and can't get shuffle to play.

The songs will appear grayed out in iTunes unless the Manually manage music option is enabled from under the Shuffle's Summary tab in iTunes.

  • I lost the original dock to my 2nd generation ipod shuffle, I have a new charger but it doesn't work. How can I charge it?

I lost the original dock to my 2nd generation ipod shuffle, I have a new charger but it doesn't work. How can I charge it?

If by "charger," you mean the USB docking cable, you need the original cable (or a compatible third-party replacement cable).  A cable that is for the current 4th gen (and 3rd gen) shuffle does not work with a 2nd gen shuffle, because the connector is different.
This is the Apple replacement part (for a 2nd gen shuffle)
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA694G/A/apple-ipod-shuffle-dock
There are third-party products that work, but make sure it is described as being for the 2nd gen shuffle.  And I would avoid the ones that just seem too cheap, because there are likely to be quality issues.

  • Ipod shuffle non responsive?

I have this ipod 4th gen shuffle working perfecatly until I lost my charging/sync cable.

it didnt show up? cant detect my ipod shuffle and its not even charging? tried reset and using a different pc
but no light or cnt sync, whts going on with my ipod shuffle? please help!? thanks!

    Hello Polgas Epic Ride,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPod shuffle 4th generation.
The iPod shuffle Dock is only compatible with the iPod shuffle 2nd generation as seen here:
    Apple iPod shuffle Dock
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA694G/A/apple-ipod-shuffle-dock
You will need to use the Apple iPod shuffle USB Cable, which is compatible with the 3rd and 4th generation iPod shuffle:

  • Listening to Ipod Shuffle with Windows or other media player

Is there any way to listen to an Ipod Shuffle through any computer without the use of the Itunes software, like through Windows Media Player, Real player or Quicktime, simply by attaching the shuffle to the dock and usb port as a "removable hardware device?" I would also like to know why some downloaded songs stop in the middle of them and it quickly skips onto the next track/song? What is up with that? It's quite annoying.

Not with the iPod Shuffle dock, no.
iPods were designed to work w/ iTunes as an integrated hardware/software system. Maybe other, bigger, pods will do what you want, but the shuffle dock can only sync w/ the comp (exchange data) and charge the pod, it does not provide an audio connection to the comp via USB.
That said, if you use the appropriate cable w/ a 1/8" plug to connect a Shuffle to a comp, powered speakers, or stereo system, the pod will function as a music player just fine, but it will not charge while connected in that way.
When a Shuffle is in its dock and connected to a comp, if you 'play' its displayed contents in iTunes, the comp is actually playing the music files that reside on its hard drive, not the music files on the pod.
Regarding your 'skipping' song downloads, I suspect that the files were not fully downloaded. Is it always the same songs that don't finish and skip to the next song? Where were they downloaded from?

  • What can i do if my ipod shuffle usb cable snapped and i cant find a new one?

i had this ipod for like 1/2 a year and i need a cable to charge it, im a musician and i need it to listen and play. plz help i need this =>

If that's a 2nd gen shuffle, which is the one shown in the image, the linked USB cable from the Apple Store is the wrong one.  That cable is only for the 3rd and 4th gen shuffle, as noted under Compatibility in the description.  The 2nd gen shuffle has a different connector.
This is the replacement for the 2nd gen shuffle
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA694G/A/apple-ipod-shuffle-dock
It is a bit costly, especially compared to a brand new 4th gen shuffle for $49.  There are third-party replacements that cost less at other online stores.  They should work, but make sure the item is described as being for the 2nd gen shuffle, not 3rd/4th gen.

  • Will ipod Shuffle work on mac os 9.2x?

Question: Will the iPod shuffle work on my clamshell I know about the requirements but sometimes you can use mac os X programs and software on os 9.2 I just need an answer soon before Ibuy the shuffle!
    -Jeremy

    Jeremy,
Your only option will be to upgrade to at least Mac OS X 10.2.8. I recommend that you upgrade 10.3.9 though because of code optimizations, there is a consensus that it runs quicker and has more features. You'll need at least 128MB of RAM to run OS X at a grueling pace, but it's recommended that you put in as much as you can.
It should be noted that even with OS X, you'll still need an iPod Shuffle Dock or a USB Cable Extender to physically be able to plug the iPod Shuffle into your iBook's USB port, as the shuffle is a bit wide.
It should also be noted that the iPod Shuffle will then only run at slower USB 1.1 speeds not USB 2.0.
    I hope this helps.
    Brian
