IPod Shuffle, First Generation, Problem Connecting to Restore Utility

This issue has been really bothering me. I've been looking all over the internet and can't find a solution that help, hopefully someone here can help me. here is the situation:
I have a 1G iPod Shuffle 512MB. I am trying to use it for the first time in maybe half a year. All this time it has just been sitting around on my shelf.
I took it off the shelf, plugged in my head phones and checked to see if it was playing music properly. Check. It can play music.
I wanted to change the songs I have on it so it tried to plug it into my laptop. Plugged it in and nothing happened. No messege saying windows can't recognize device, isn't recognized in my computer as a storage device, iTunes dosn't recognize it either.
I have tried the five R's that apple suggests as well as installing itunes several times (the most recent version).
I tried to use an iPodShuffleUtility to restore my ipod but when I run the application it asks me to plug the iPod Shuffle in. I try, but still not recognized. I had used this solution in the past with the same iPod.
I figured maybe it's just my laptop although all my USB ports are working fine. I tried to plug it into my brothers laptop but everything was the same.
Strange thing is that while it is plugged into the USB, it is charging. The battery went from red to green. I am going to run the battery out completely and try everything again maybe that'll work.
Please help me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Removing and re-installing iTunes will not delete your iTunes media content such as music and movies.  Have you tried everything here?

The altenating colored lights mean that the Nano's buttons are disabled.  You must press and hold the Play button until you see the orange light followed by three flashes of the green light. See this article for more information on what each of the status lights mean when you are using your 2G Shuffle.

  • Running OSX 10.7.5.  Updated iTunes to 11.0.1.  When iPod Shuffle 2nd generation is connected, I get a message saying the media is corrupted and cannot be read.

Don't want to do a restore if I don't have to.  I have another iPod Shuffle, also 2nd generation that sychs with a different Macbook running iTunes 11.0.  No problems there.  Is there an issue with this software update?

Reboot your computer.  Temporarily disable any security software, i.e. firewall, anti-virus, anti-malware, etc.

  • Ipod Shuffle First Generation - Keeps Pausing

I've had my iPod shuffle (1GB) for over two years now and recently (as in the past two days) it has started to pause midway through songs. The pauses are random - sometimes close together, sometimes far apart. I have tried restoring the iPod and reinstalling the software - but nothing seems to work.
If anyone could post some ideas to solve the problem I would greatly appreciate it. Thankyou.

You can check the songs to see if they have issues, but you may just be at the end of your battery life.

  • My ipod shuffle 1st generation cannot connect to itunes.

It should be working fine as I can charge it normally and the lights are reacting. However, there is no way I can input songs as it does not react on itunes. Please let me know how.Thanks.

Hi have you tried the iPod Shuffle Reset Utility? Here is the link to the application.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ipod_itunes/ipodshuffleresetutility1 01forwindows.html
It may help fix your dead iPod however you may need to run the application a few times for it to work.
    Hope this finds you well.

  • Will I find the iPod shuffle first generation charger in UAE online store?

I have been looking around in most of the stores in Dubai and they tell me they don't sell it anymore. I love my iPod and just need a charger for it

This is the 1st gen iPod shuffle, that looks like a white USB flash drive?  It has a USB plug on the shuffle itself.
You can plug it into any Apple USB power adapter, including the lowest power version that Apple currently sells
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD810LL/A/apple-5w-usb-power-adapter
It should actually work with any USB power adapter that provides the same power as a standard USB 2.0 port on a computer.  If it's third-party (not Apple-branded), make sure you get good quality product.
If there is an Apple Store near you, you may be able to use this current program

  • Ipod Shuffle - First Generation

My son and daughter (17 and 8 respectively) each have an ipod product. When I plug in my daughter's iPod shuffle to import music, it tells me that her library is somewhere else, and do I want to erase and syncronize with the current library. Well, my son has stuff in his library that I don't want my daughter to have on her machine!
How do I get iTunes to recognize my daughter's shuffle and only open or look at her library? I can't even get iTunes to see her Shuffle at the moment. Thanks!

They need to have different user accounts on your computer. That's the only way to keep everything separate.

  • Ipod Touch First Generation: Problem with Touch Screen.

why oh why does it freak out all of the time. I'll be using it for a bit and it will be completely normal and then either the entire screen or just parts of it (so i can work around it its just a hassle) become unresponsive or clicking in other places rather than the spot i'm touching.
Its gotten to the point that i can hold my finger a few centimeters away and it will click like crazy on the screen pretty much randomly. it makes typing sooooo frustrating. Everytime i want a B, it will type T or Y or something crazy. I've tried completely restoring my ipod, and resetting it numerous times, nothing has changed. should i go in and see someone? i dont think its even under warranty anymore, i got it march 2008.
anyone else have this problem? its so frustrating!!!! please help! any advice appreciated!

I was hoping it would be something like a USB device conflict, but now the shuffle is the only thing connected...
This article was one of the ones you linked to above in your initial post
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
Under Part 9. Verify that USB drivers are installed, did you try the steps in If only "Unknown Device" appears?  That appears to be your situation.
Also, you said that the shuffle initially worked well enough to do a sync, then it had the same problem again.  If you can get it to work again initially, before doing anything else, try the following.  Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Summary tab.  By default, the checkbox for Enable disk use should be unchecked.  If so, check it and Apply the change.  See if that makes any difference.
(If Enable disk use was already checked, try unchecking it and Apply the change.  Basically, set it the "other way" and see if there is any improvement.)
NOTE:  When disk use is enabled, you have to eject the iPod in iTunes before disconnecting it physically.
If the disk use change makes a difference, that may provide a clue about the actual cause.

  • Ipod shuffle 4th generation device not shown on itunes, not charging. Seeing red light when connecting to USB charger for a few seconds, then nothing. How to fix this?

My ipod shuffle 4th generation was working fine for a few months. My son then bit the USB charger. I bought a new USB charger, but the shuffle is not charging and not showing up under the devices in itunes. It also doesn't appear in my windows under my computer. Just to note. I also have a new ipod touch. I am able to charge that fine on the same computer using the USB charger. The device (Ipod touch) does show up in windows and in itunes. The shuffle doesn't show in either place.
I have tried to use the apple support page. I went through each step. I made all of my USB drives not shut down, I had my computer on all night to try and charge the shuffle. All I see is a red light that appears on the shuffle for a few seconds when I first connect the USB charger to the computer. Then, nothing. Since this was working a bit ago, I don't think that I have a defective shuffle. The USB charger is brand new, I just picked it up yesterday from the apple store. I have the short one, and the longer cable as well.
Any help that you might be able to give to me would be much appreciated. My daughter is missing listening to her music. Thanks!

Instead of "charger," you should call it the "USB cable" to avoid confusion.  When started reading your post, I was thinking, how can your son break a USB power adapter (the "charger" that plugs into a wall socket) by biting it...
Since you got the product with the two USB cables at the Apple Store, you have the right replacement (some third-party replacements are for the 2nd gen shuffle and do not work with the 4th gen shuffle).  Make sure you are completely inserting the plug into the headphones jack.  The fit may be tighter than expected, since the connectors are new.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3572
If you tried both of those cables, it would be unlikely that you got two faulty cables in one package.  If a new USB device has been added to the computer between the time it worked with the old cable and now, there could be a problem on the USB bus (such as not enough power or a device conflict).
As a test, you should shut down (power off) the computer and disconnect all USB devices (including any hub), except for standard keyboard and mouse (if used).  Do this to reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1655
Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle by itself to a direct USB port on the computer.

  • IPod shuffle 4th generation will not connect to iTunes.

iPod shuffle 4th generation will not connect to iTunes.  Windows Vista and iTunes, all updates current.  Cables secure & connected.  Device driver will not load.  iPad will connect when tried with several other computers.  When I try to connect it will hang iTunes until I re-boot.  iPad does NOT appear in Windows Explorer either.

Oh, so the iPad DOES work fine connected to the same computer and the same port.  I thought you said it did not in the first post, but maybe you got that working (or I misunderstood before).
NOTE:  When things are working properly, the shuffle will not appear in Windows Explorer (except when actively syncing), unless you have Enable disk use turned on for the shuffle.  So not seeing it in Windows Explorer may not be a problem.
Is this shuffle a new purchase... so it did not previously work for you on this computer?  If so, make sure that the shuffle end of the USB cable is fully inserted into the headphones jack.  The fit can be tighter than expected, and it may seem connected, but is not.  For a surprising number of people, this was the problem.
In iTunes, is the sidebar (along left side of window) visible.  If it is hidden, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  When there are no devices connected, the heading DEVICES should not appear in the sidebar.  When you connect your iPad, DEVICES should appear, with the iPad listed below.  If you connect the shuffle, it is be added to the list under DEVICES.  To confirm, you do not see the shuffle listed there under DEVICES, when it is connected?
When you connect the shuffle, does its light on the shuffle do anything?

Im actually tilting it up where it cinnects to my iPod, not where it connects to my computer, and i have tried three(yes, 3) different cables, one of which i bought brand new. still nothing, and i've also tried different USB ports on my computer,....nothing. Could this simply be a hardware failure of somekind? maybe a physical problem...i mean, why would i have to tilt the cable in order for my computer to actually read my iPod? im looking at the USB connector on my iPod (maybe it's my imagination, not sure) it possible might be bent, the little metal part in the port.
