Ipod Shuffle Gen2 recognition problem

I have an Ipod shuffle that is recognised in Windows but not in iTunes.
I’ve reset, retried, restarted, reinstalled, restored, and …
• Removed iTunes and reinstalled;
• Emptied the Temp directory and restarted;
• Cleaned up iTunes installer files on the computer
• Disabled conflicting System Services and Startup Items
• Deleted corrupt or incorrect registry keys
.... but still no luck. I'm about to throw it in the bin, but before I do any suggestions?
Thanks

Your shuffle didn't happen to go through the laundry, did it?
My wife's did and that's about when this started.

  • IPod Shuffle Set-Up Problem

I just received my new iPod Shuffle (2nd generation) and am trying to get it working, but all it does is blink an amber light at me. When I plugged it in, I at first plugged it into my keyboard, but then read the directions and shame-facedly plugged it directly into my computer. Could that have caused the problem?
At any rate, I never got the Start-Up Assistant to help me get started. iTunes has been downloading my entire library onto the Shuffle without my prompting, but the light still just blinks amber.
I've already tried the "5 R's" mentioned in iPod help (Reset, Retry, Reinstall, Restart, and Restore), but even after the restore, I didn't get a Start-Up Assistant like the help told me I would.

  • IPod Shuffle: No recognition but somehow still being read?

I have a iPod Shuffle (2gen) that I ended up getting for free from someone else. Problem is that it doesn't show up on my Mac (laptop) or iTunes whatsoever but from what I see when I look at the iPod it's blinking orange so it's being read? I just bought a new dock for it and I've got the newest version of iTunes that my system will support. And when I take it to the PC downstairs it reads on the PC but when I open files it says there are none on it when there most certainly is (though that might be because the PC does not have iTunes on it and therefore does not read the files). Every once and a while when I plug it into the USB of my Mac it'll get a Low Power output thing but that's only sometimes and of course the other half of the time it does nothing anyway. I've read and done what I could for it but I'm new to the quirks of ipods let alone any sort of music player.
    How do I fix this?

    Hi Jonathan,
Sounds like your iPod is beyond the kind of help you can find here. You've done all the fixes I would suggest. Thankfully, the iPod shuffle has a one year warranty, so I would sent it in asap and you'll get a nice new iPod in no time flat!

  • IPod shuffle 2nd gen problem-help!

I've had my iPod shuffle now for less than two months now. I ran into a problem in the past day and it has been quite frustrating to me to fix.
    problem -
I put the iPod onto the dock for sync and charge as well
-iPod blinks 1 green time, then blinks orange light 3 times and doesn't do anything afterwards
-It isn't picked up on itunes, nor windows sees it either.
I've went through device manager and basically all the 5 r's to get this back in working status. I'm quite disappointed being this is my first iPod i've ever purchased.
Any help would be of great appreciation!

  • IPod Shuffle Has Major Problems

My iPod Shuffle use to work then one day it stopped. Now I push the play button and the orange and green lights flicker and then nothing. It is impossible to try to get help from Apple.

I take it you guys who cant get support after 30 days as in the US?
I have had the same problems with my shuffle, so bad that im on my 3 in the last two weeks, the new updater screwed the one that was running well and had never updated any replacements since. Apple support say it my PC!! Well I wouldnt expect less, I have been told to reinstall windows as my USB drivers may be corrupt. I plug many devices into USB and never have a problem with any (even and iPod mini which had to have a battery replacement under warranty) and for this to just happen seems strange. After many hours on the phone to the Irish Customer Support team, (who read from a sheet supplied by lawyers ar Apple by the sounds of it) I have now got a refund on the shuffle, so its off to buy a product that works.
All us PC users go on about how bad M$ is but Apple, they should change their name to iSh*t.

  • Ipod shuffle 1GB volume problem?

hello, i have a 1gb ipod shuffle, bought it 3 months back, meaning the 90 day warantee is gone, and now is exactly when its just messed up!!!.
the other day i was using my ipod shuffle and when i tried to put the volume higher, the volume steadily decreased until i couldnt hear anything. i thought that maybe the battery needs a charge so i left it for charge, but ever since its still not working.
its really annoying that something that i bought 3 months ago is already damaged? ive been keeping very good care of it and have also got the apple sock thing. ive tried resetting the ipod, also updating the software but nothing has worked so far.
if anyone could help id be very greatful..
    thanks

    Here's something to try sunny...
In playing around with mine, I have determined that the problem is somehow linked to the battery level indicator button. When music is playing, it seems that pressing the battery button makes the iPod more susceptible to the volume fading to nothing.
It may just be a coincidence, but there's more.
After the volume fades, the iPod is unresponsive. I've found randomly turning it on and off will eventually get it to work again, for a bit. However, while the iPod is frozen and still switched to on, try pressing the battery button. In my short experience that enabled me to use it again... at least until the whole problem happens again.
If this doesn't make sense let me know and I'll try to explain it better. Or maybe we don't actually have the same issue. Mine's definitely bunk though, but at least I've found how to make it almost usable until it's replaced.
Good luck, and welcome to Apple Discussions!
    EDIT:
Hmmm, it seems pressing either forward or backward will also unfreeze the iPod. Man, I hate these intermittent, weird problems.
Let me know if your shuffle is as crazy as this...

  • IPod Shuffle Windows detection problem

Hi, I've just purchased my fist iPod product, a 512 MB iPod Shuffle... and I'm very excited about the sound quality, about iTunes... but not about the fact that it works on all computers except my home computer. I've installed iTUnes at Work and got recognized by Windows and iTUnes there, the same on a laptop, but when I tried to load it with music from home I realised it was invisible to windows. Not in My COmputer as a disk drive, not in Device Manager as an unrecognised device, not in iTunes... where is it? The operating sistem does nothing when I plug it in the USB port (I've tried all of them). I also re-installed the operating system thinking it was a Windows problem, but again, the same problem. Can you help me please?
I've updated the player with the most recent iPod Update tool... and same problem. The motherboard from my computer is an ABIT KD7-RAID with VIA KT400 chipset. Can it be an incompatibility between the USB host from the chipset and the player? What should I do ?
    Thanks for the answer!

  • IPod Shuffle, First Generation, Problem Connecting to Restore Utility

This issue has been really bothering me. I've been looking all over the internet and can't find a solution that help, hopefully someone here can help me. here is the situation:
I have a 1G iPod Shuffle 512MB. I am trying to use it for the first time in maybe half a year. All this time it has just been sitting around on my shelf.
I took it off the shelf, plugged in my head phones and checked to see if it was playing music properly. Check. It can play music.
I wanted to change the songs I have on it so it tried to plug it into my laptop. Plugged it in and nothing happened. No messege saying windows can't recognize device, isn't recognized in my computer as a storage device, iTunes dosn't recognize it either.
I have tried the five R's that apple suggests as well as installing itunes several times (the most recent version).
I tried to use an iPodShuffleUtility to restore my ipod but when I run the application it asks me to plug the iPod Shuffle in. I try, but still not recognized. I had used this solution in the past with the same iPod.
I figured maybe it's just my laptop although all my USB ports are working fine. I tried to plug it into my brothers laptop but everything was the same.
Strange thing is that while it is plugged into the USB, it is charging. The battery went from red to green. I am going to run the battery out completely and try everything again maybe that'll work.
Please help me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Latest ipod Shuffle upgrade having problems with volume!

I just upgrated to the latest software version of the ipod shuffle and now I can't change the volume on my device with out having the music being played affected causing it to break frecuently during play out. I will like to remove this newer software upgrate and just leave it as it was, when it was working all fine. Any Ideas?
    Thanks

    Excuse me for jumping in.
What's described Here should work if you have iTunes 7; I haven't tried it yet, though.
Otherwise, locate the most recent updater [2006-6-28] (they're found in ~/Applications/Utilities/iPod Software Updater.localized on my machine). Download it if necessary.
Run the updater; connect the shuffle when prompted.
    Good luck

The altenating colored lights mean that the Nano's buttons are disabled.  You must press and hold the Play button until you see the orange light followed by three flashes of the green light. • Ipod shuffle wont add songs, repeatedly asked to reformat

so i had my ipod shuffle working no problem. i was using itunes 9 with windows vista. recently over break, i rebuilt my computer, including installing windows 7 ultimate onto another hard drive. i have my comptuer booting in windows 7, but also have my initial hard drive that was windows vista as my d drive. i still have itunes on there, but it wouldnt work through my d drive, so i installed the newest version onto my new c drive. i went to go sync it, erasing everything like told. well suddenly, when adding songs, it would allow only 19 songs onto my shuffle, then stop syncing. no matter what other song, it just would say its updating then stop. so i reformatted it again, and went to add it again. now it added only three songs. i error check the ipod, considering everytime i put my ipod into the usb cord, a notice comes up saying it needs to be check. it says everythings fine, yet it still comes up wityh these notices that it needs to be checked, or reformatted. now, i cant even add anymore songs, not even one. when i go to hit play when just trying to listen to music, the color sequence comes up: orange green orange green orange green. please help, i dont like the third or fourth generations at all, only the second, and i really dont want to spend anymore money then i already have.
