IPod shuffle is in use by another user

when I try to connect my iPod shuffle, it tells me that it is in use by another user on my computer. The reality is that I am the main and only user of the computer. I have created other accounts. They do not use iTunes or iPod.
The problem occurred when I had to force iTune to quit as it was not responding.
I re-installed the iPod software using iPod Updater 2005-09-06.

My iPod recently froze during an update and now when I plug it into my mac iTunes says "The ipod "ipod" is in use by another user on this computer". I don't have any other users. I know it's not a problem with the ipod because it works when plugged into my roomates computer. So, I tried uninstalling iTunes, throwing aways the preferences and the old library files and reinstalling from scratch. Much to my dismay, my computer still issues the same error. I read similar posts on this site, but they all had to do with fast user switching on a Windows. I have a powermac G4 and I can't seem to get the problem to go away on this computer.

Reset your iPod by pressing and hold the "Menu" and the centre button for about 10 seconds. It should be fine.

Is there any way to suppress the "ipod is in use by another user on this computer" message that appears when you use fast user switching.
my wife and I share a mac pro and when flipping between sessions, this message gets to be a bit annoying. i.e. if her itouch is plugged in and she is managing it through her library, if I fast user switch to my session, I get the warning dialog (ok to clear) I mention above. This is kind of annoying now, since I understand I won't be able to manage that ipod from my itunes session.
is there anyway to suppress this behavior?

I've seen this iPod error before, but I don't know why it occurs. In my experience, restarting the computer solves the problem.

Offered solution doesn't work:
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
I have already copied my photographs to the a library manager but when I tried to reuse iphoto and import the photos back into iphoto, it would not let me.
I can't download photographs from my iphone or my digital camera.
Any ideas on how I can solve this problem?
There is a possibility that when I went to update applications that I started to install Mavericks which I then interrupted and cancelled. I am not definite that this caused this problem but it was at about the same time as when this problem started.

You can't "copy" your photos to the "library manager", there is just no way to any such thing.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Hello and HELP! Over the years I have saved Invoices in my Documents. I have just tried to open them and all I am getting is " cannot be opened, Invoice**** is used by another user, do you want to make a copy?" That's on all my invoices.

Can someone help please.
I have just "lost" ( cannot open) all my saved Invoices in the Document folder. All I am getting is " cannot open, Invoice ** is used bey another user, do you want to make copy? " That doesn't work either. I can't get anything on the time capsule either. How can I reset to an earlier time? Or what can I do?

If not select the Documents folder and check that for Read & Write permissions for your UserName. If it doesn't have R & W permissions Add it so it does.

Message being used by another user

I am running office 2008, word version is 12.3.6, and Mtn Lion 10.8.3. I am trying to edit word template documents on the network. I used to open Word, go to File, select Open... and go to the template. The template would open and I would make the necessary changes. After updating to Mtn Lion, I now get the message: (name of document.dotx" is being used by "another user". Do you want to make a copy?
I know the documents are not opened as they are letters that I exclusively use and I just need to edit them. In checking around, one solution, although haven't read if it works, is to reinstall office 2008. This seems pretty drastic to me. Only thing that seems to help is to actually restart the machine and then it works, but only for one document.
Any suggestions?

ITunes message 'the phone " " is in use by another user on this computer'

I am receiving the following message when I try to sync my iPhone with iTunes:
'the phone "phone name " is in use by another user on this computer'
I believe that this happened as a result of the following:
I forced a restore of this phone. When the phone was restarting itself I closed and reopened iTunes on my iMac. When I reopened iTunes I rec'd a message that the iTunes Library file was locked. Per discussion advice I solved this locked file problem by overwriting with a slightly older iTunes Library file from Time Machine. This solved the locked file problem, but now I can't sync my phone to my iMac any attempt to do so results in the message noted above .
The phone will sync (restore) with iTunes on another computer.
I have tried the following to correct the problem, but no success at syncing my iPhone to my iMac:
1. Forced another restore of the phone to factory settings (on another computer, Mac Air)
2. Restarted iTunes
3. Restarted the iMac.
3. Opened iTunes with a newly created Library
Any suggestions as to how I might convince my computer that my iPhone is not in use by another user much appreciated.

IOS4 Update on 3GS New Restore- "iPhone (Name) is in use by another user"

The initial problem I encountered on my 3GS to iOS4 update was I couldn't do ANYTHING that required the network, e.g. Facebook, Safari, certain apps, youtube and more. I was told by an Apple in-store rep to restore AS NEW IPHONE instead of using my backup info, so I did.
It works almost perfectly now. However, I just attempted to make a new playlist and sync it to my iPhone and I am getting the message "iphone (Name of my iPhone) is in use by another user on this computer"
The problem with this is that I am the ONLY user on this computer and have been since I have had it.

Error: "The phone is in use by another user of this computer"

Hi,
Itunes hung and had to be "force quit". When I started it again, I got the following message.
"The phone <phone name> is in use by another user of this computer"
I rebuild he iTunes libaray, but the message won't go away. Any ideas? I'm guessing there is a lock file somewhere.

After force quitting iTunes, now my phone is "in use" by another user

OK, here's what just happened to me tonight. I had the "beach ball of death" in iTunes, so I used a force quit. Now when I plug in my week old iPhone 4, I'm getting the message that this phone is already in use by another user on this computer. Huh?!? For one thing, I am the ONLY user although I do have a "guest" account, but I'm logged in on my regular account.
I've tried restarting iTunes, same message. Every time I plug in the phone it's doing it now. So, how am I supposed to sync my phone now?
Has anyone else had this problem after force quitting iTunes? Any ideas?

Nope, tried that, didn't work. 3 complete reboots didn't worked either. However, on the 4th complete computer reboot, it worked!! I don't know why, but I'm happy that I can sync again.
I guess it just reinforces the old, "if at first you don't succeed...."

Name is used by another user

I am trying to change the "Full Name" under Users and Groups. When I type in my actual full name, it says "Name is used by another User. So I had to enter just my first name.
FYI, In the left column, the only user is the one with my first name and Guest User which says OFF. How can I change "Full Name " to my full first and last name? Thanks!

When prompted enter the local administrator's password. You won't see it being typed so don't panic. This assumes you have a password? It also assumes no home folder. If there is a home folder you should be able to delete it either via the Finder or command line:
sudo rm -R -v /Users/whatevertheshortnameofthehomefolderis
Be very careful with the "rm" command. It's extremely powerful and once an item is deleted it's pretty much gone for good. There are no undos in Terminal either. If you're not 100% certain about dusing the command I would make sure you have a full and up-to-date backup just in case before using it.

Now we have created these REPORTS using Basic Crystal Report 10.5, which comes bundled with Visual Studio 2008 and .Net Framework 3.0. Now on our machines, we have never experienced any issues.
Going by the above, you should have references to CR assemblies of version 10.5.3700 only. No other references.
Now, looking at this paragraph:

I wonder what runtime was deployed to the server. E.g.; if you are using CR 10.5, your assemblies will be 10.5.3700 and you should be deploying the following runtime (depending on 32 bit / 64 bit, etc.):
