Ipod shuffle isn't recognized by windows or mac

I have an ipod shuffle and no computer will sees it when i plug it in. I have tried the 5Rs. i tried to restore it but when i open up ipod updater it says it is waiting for the ipod to become ready. I have left it plug in for 5 days so I am pretty sure its not me being impatient. I am really at a loss. I have used ipods since the first generation ipods came out and have always been able to fix my ipod the few times it has gotten confused but this one is really strange.

Hello David.
Unfortunatelly I am experiencing the *very same problem*. Tried the 5Rs as well with no luck at all. Also tried on 5 different computers with clean installs, both from the original disk and up-to-date software -> still unsuccessfull.
When I plug the ipod in any PC the computer reckognizes it ok. I can see it as a disk drive but just can't format or access it. The battery is fine, fully charged and leds are operating normally. Can't play anything though cuz I have deleted all the songs in it last time I accessed it.
I have it for a year and 12 days (yeah, warranty JUST expired) so I won't be able to get ir replaced.
Any hopes?
Did you sort your problem out?
Thanks for ANY HELP.
BTW I managed to try the same computers with another iPodShuffle (from my girlfriend) and the ipod would be mounted just fine. Does this mean my Shuffle has gone potatoes? :-/

  • My ipod shuffle isn't recognized by windows.

When I connect my shuffle to my computer, it runs "autorun" indefinately. I can't run restore to fix it because the updater doesn't recognize the drive. In MyComputer, the drive shows up, but when I click it, MyComputer freezes and I have to use task manager to shut it down. The shuffle won't play any songs at all. I have reloaded iTunes, iPod, and tried everything on the web page. Any suggestions? Help.

Can't say why XP doesn't recognize your Shuffle, but have had experience with the flashing amber light. I purchased the wall charger and the flashing stopped and the Shuffle received a full charge.
Come to think of it I had trouble getting my Win2K machine to recognize the Shuffle. After purchasing the charger there has been no problem having the Shuffle recognized by the computer. This makes me suspect that the problem you're having isn't because of XP, rather it is because your Shuffle isn't sufficiently charged.

  • 4 gen Ipod shuffle is not recognized by windows

I charged my 4 gen i pod shuffle and configured an updated i tunes to transfer songs (mp3 files) directly from my desktop. Nevertheless i tunes had showed ipod as a driver in the windows explorer and has also showed a mp3 files list from my desktop, I transfered only two mp3 files to the device, because, suddenly, ipod icon stopped to appear in the windows explorer. After that first time (it has happened yesterday), the green light now starts to blink 4 times.. but after that it won't response. Now, it is not recognized by my computer and by i tunes as well. I can't transfer more mp3 files to my i pod. Please, help.

  • 4th generation iPod shuffle isn't recognized by iTunes

I've tried everything suggested, disconnected all USB plug-ins, rebooted the computer, made sure shuffle is fully charged, tried different ports - nada.  My MAC has all software up-to-date.  So frustrating - I'm about ready to throw it out the window (the suffle not the MAC).  Help?

You could try reformatting the iPod manually outside of iTunes...but also try a different computer...if its not picked up there, then the iPod could be faulty or you may need a different wire...good luck with your plight bud

  • Ipod Touch is'nt recognized in Windows or Itunes

Hello, my Problem is that my Ipod Touch isn't Recognized in Windows or Itunes on my PC, on a Friends PC it works fine, so u guess the Ipod is ok..
    1. I tried everything Restarted Apple Mobile Device Service and reinstalled
    2. Reinstalled Itunes
    3. Reinstalled Windows
    4. Other USB Ports
    5. Recovery Mode (In Recovery Mode the Ipod is recognized but can't Restore because bevore it Restores completly it gets automaticly disconnected and does'nt connect again)
I Restored my Ipod at the PC from my Friend, but it still doesn't work here.
The USB Ports also can't be the Problem, since all other USB Devices work fine. And the Ipod Touch worked fine as well till a few Days ago.
    Every Help is appreciated.

    Hi,
What's the make and model of the PC? Is it a desktop or laptop PC?
Make sure the iPod touch is directly connected to a high-speed USB2 port on the PC. The tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286 will help rule out USB connection issues.
What security software is running on the PC?
If you haven't already, try to reconfigure, update, or uninstall the security software, as suggested here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125.
Also, this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1852 provides general tips that will resolve most issues that prevent the iPhone from being recognized by iTunes.

  • Replacement Shuffle Still Not Recognized In Windows Or iTunes

    Hello everyone,
I was having the orange/green light issue and my 512MB shuffle was not recognized in Windows or iTunes 7.0.1. I contacted Apple and they replaced my shuffle - after I attempted all documented fixes and running the Shuffle Reset Utility.
I plugged the replacement in and received the message "xxx iPod shuffle cannot be updated. The required disk cannot be found." I found an article on how to remove some temp and application files. I did that and also ran "checkdisk" on my laptop and that error went away. The problem is now the shuffle is not recognized in iTunes or Windows once again. The shuffle did come up for less than 10 seconds as the "F" drive and then disappeared and could not be relocated.
Here is the real rub for me - I plugged the shuffle into my wife's laptop running iTunes 7.0.1 and it works just fine!! Since my laptop is my primary - this is still a major issue for me.
Does anyone have a fix for this? This has to be a Windows disk or driver issue.
Does anyone have a fix for this type of issue? It is obviously a Windows disk or driver issue.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.
    Still no joy, see these.

  • 4th generation iPod Shuffle works on one PC (Windows 7) but not another.

    Hi all.
My issue with the 4th gen shuffle is pretty strange, at least, from what I've read here on the forums already. My sister recieved one as a christmas present just this past year (Happy New Year, all!), and as I am the family's tech guy, I was given the task of configuring it for her use and whatnot, as she is younger.
Having owned a shuffle myself, I figured it wouldn't be all that difficult.
At first I ran into the issue of not plugging the USB cord in all the way, but being the computer-geek I am, I recognized the symptoms fairly quickly and noticed the eighth of an inch of plug still sticking out of the little hole.
Interesting, interesting. So now it was plugged in properly.. but iTunes was immediately saying it was corrupted. So, not too bad, just click restore, right?.. wrong.
The restore hangs. I google the issue. A lot of people suggest reinstalling iTunes and whatnot.. attempting a format on the iPod itself to make sure it's in Windows format.
I try many many things on this PC, only to wind up plugging the thing into another Windows 7 PC. The only difference between the two is that the other PC is running 64 bit Windows 7 as opposed to 32 bit. Strangely enough, however, the iPod functions and works perfectly on one computer and does not get recognized by Windows as a disk drive or a mountable partition on the original PC.
I discovered today that the motherboard drivers for the original PC weren't properly installed by visiting nVidia's site.. but this didn't help the problem. I also attempted to restart all of Apple's iPod services through Windows, as well as to reinstall iTunes multiple times. I disabled basically all other services running on the computer, turned off Avast antiVirus, etc.
I did try several different USB ports as well. Front ports, back ports, even the installed memory card reader has a USB port that I attempted to use to connect the iPod.. all to no avail.
The only thing I can honestly guess at this point, is, that there is some other conflicting service or background process that is totally preventing the iPod from properly being recognized by Windows, especially as multiple driver reinstalls / restarts do absolutely nothing to solve the issue. I also find it very odd that iTunes will recognize the iPod as being plugged in, but consider it corrupted despite the fact that it runs just fine on the other PC. Perhaps the major difference is, in fact, the 64 bit OS? I also find it odd, indeed, that despite it showing up in iTunes as a corrupted iPod, when I click the diagnostics button under the help menu in iTunes, it will say there is no iPod plugged in.
I am really just confused and dumbstruck by all of this, and regardless, my sister's christmas present is currently nothing more than a pink clip on button.
Please note that I have tried or looked into most if not all of the support pages pertaining to this issue. I am very much hoping there is something simple I've overlooked, or that there is some specific order in which things must be done in order to properly force Windows to recognize the device (like it does so easily with so many other devices..).

There is a USB printer connected to the back port of the PC. The mouse and keyboard are both PS/2.
I did attempt to reinstall the USB root drivers. After uninstalling iTunes and all the other apple software packages included, I uninstalled everything USB in Device Manager, then rebooted the PC to let Windows reinstall it all.
Reinstalling the OS -might- fix the issue, but if that were the case, it's most likely just a software conflict that can easily be fixed if I can manage to narrow the specific conflicts down. I've already essentially disabled everything with MSCONFIG except for Apple stuff, so I'm at a loss as to where to go. I've attempted the 5 Rs and all that as well, none of it seems to do the trick. I also cleared the temp folder multiple times (once per each iTunes uninstall / reinstall following the support site directions of uninstalling all the extra apple software) as well as attempted restarts of the Apple services.
One oddity I would like to point out is that if I attempt to restart the iPod service through services.msc, it will not restart. It throws the error message of "the service failed to respond in a timely fashion" or whatever. I instead have to use the windows Task Manager to manually kill the iPod process in the processes list.
I just now removed the USB printer and plugged the shuffle into the same port, but I receive the same error message in iTunes about the iPod being corrupted and it needing a restore. If I push restore, the software gets stuck in an endless loop. There are no other USB devices attached to this computer, the motherboard drivers are fully up to date from nVidia's website, and other USB devices clearly function just fine (USB memory sticks, USB printer, etc). If I use the Diagnostics option under Help in iTunes, it will claim there is no iPod connected, and, again, the iPod still does not show up in Windows Explorer under My Computer as an attached device, nor does it show up in Disk Management as a mounted partition.

  • IPod shuffle does not recognized by iTunes after restore

    Hello
I have a iPod shuffle (4th gen) and a windows laptop.
After restoring my iPod shuffle (as directed by iTunes), iTunes does not recognized my iPod anymore.
The data in the iPod has been deleted (ie return to the factory settings), but iTunes does not proceed to prompt me to name my iPod and set up sync options etc, it simply does nothing and does not recognize my iPod.
I went on My Computer, and reformatted the iPod shuffle again. As a result of the reformatting, iTunes recognizes my iPod but it requires me to restore my iPod back to factory settings again. It became a cycle of either recognizing the iPod but asking me to restore it; or does not recognize my iPod after restoration.
Please kindly assist me with this situation as it is rather frustrating.
iTunes is in the latest version as I have attempted the trouble shooting support on the webpage.
    Many thanks.

Your Touch is working correctly. Currently, without unsupported third party hacks, the Touch has NO disc mode. It will only show up in iTunes.

Right now, you don't. The SDK is scheduled to be released in Feburary. Then developers will be able to write programs that will be loadable.
