Ipod shuffle issue

the message is ipod is corrupted so need to restore it but cannot restore through itunes

Well, i figured out the problem. Apparently, the USB port on the front of my PMG5 is no longer working. The iPods both work work in the other ports and on my other Macs.
I wonder what could have happened. Strangely, TechTool Deluxe finds no hardware errors with any USB ports. I tested it further by plugging my Mighty Mouse into it. The optical light turns on, but the mouse will not move.
This *****. I have no desire to lug my computer in for repairing the USB port. :/. Well, I DO have Applecare and it expires this year. Perhaps I should think about it.
GOOD NEWS: Resetting the PRAM fixed my issue. It responds again.

    OK
    1) When my iPod shuffle is connected, and I restart my MBP, it takes much longer to boot... I noticed this after it took a while, and I was wondering *** happened. I disconnected my Shuffle, rebooted, and it booted fast like usual..
    and
    2) This just happened today. i was listening to a song and had the visualizer full screen... made the mistake of plugging in my shuffle to charge while this was happening. Whole screen froze on the visualizer. Held down power button, restarted. Now, whenever I plug in my ipod shuffle, it tries to sync, and iTunes just hangs and the little turning color wheel (aka the Mac version of the BSOD) appears. I tried restarting the MBP, but same issue keeps happening..
When I try to close iTunes in Activity Monitor, Activity Monitor closes.. and then I have to hit the power button, and click Restart.
However, if I unplug the iPod Shuffle while iTunes and Activity Monitor are attached, it says that it was removed unproperly, and then I get a message saying that I don't have enough privileges, and then it stops hanging and works like normal...
Shuffle's starting to **** me off lol..
    Any solutions?

I am sorry that I can't help you with the problem you are having. But I have a problem as well. I was listening to my ipod shuffle and all of a sudden it just turned off. The green light would not turn on or anything, no matter what button I pushed. I then got an iTunes update and then the green light came on. But it won't play any music at all. And whenever I put the headphones in it I hear a little noise and that is it. I was on the iTunes website in the support section and read some stuff in there but had no luck at all in resolving the problem. Someone please help me. This my first day in this discussion. I just joined today.

  • 1st Generation Ipod Shuffle Issues

My Ipod Shuffle 1st Gen. (The White GumStick)
Is not being recognized by itunes or even my computer.
When i plug it into my usb ports on my MacBook Pro. Nothing happens
    Ive tried both Usb ports...
The battery power is low, but it still should recognize that it is plugged in.
    Any help or suggestions?

yeah. my iPod Shuffle (1st gen) stopped being recognised first by iTunes and then by my computer (I am using a PC). I have done the 5 r's and used the shuffle reset utility but i had to do that on another pc because my computer now crashes every time i even plug the iPod in. I have reformatted it in DOS and reinstalled iTunes with the CD I received with my iPod and reinstalled the iPod driver but still to no avail. Now my PC says when i plug it in that it is a "Player Recovery Device Class" and that any port I plug it into is a low-powered port. But to check that my PC has not damaged the USB ports I tried my camera video camera which only works through high-powered USB2 and that worked...
The iPod now has no lights on it and only when I turn it on or press the battery check button, a very VERY dim orange light comes on for around 3 seconds then disappears. ???????? I CAN'T DO ANYTHING! And i really need it for my art exam on monday - we have 2 days solid of no talking whilst doing our art final piece and i need my iPod to listen to to stop me going insane...

    hi Matthew!
Its always on the same song though
hmmm. what happens if you replace that track in your itunes library with a fresh copy and then do a resynch to your ipod? does it successfully reupdate that song? if so, do you still get the same problem with the fresh version of the track?
    love, b

  • IPod Shuffle's serial number not recognized...is this an issue?

I accidentally hit Never Register in iTunes, so I decided to register my new iPod Shuffle at www.apple.com/register. Well, my shuffle's serial number is not recognized. 10 tries, and it doesn't seem to exist.
Is this going to be an issue in the past? I've checked it again what iTunes has, the box and the device, and nothing works.
    Thanks!

well, im having the same problem..when i hooked up the ipod shuffle to te computer using the USB outlet, a pop-up came up and said that it malfunctioned and suggested that we get a new one. maybe thats your problem too?

  • Ipod shuffle 3rd gen volume control issue

I have IPod Touch and IPod Shuffle 3rd gen and I bought a new pair of headphones in the Apple store in London few months back and the headphones were totally fine when used in IPod Touch. Yesterday I put them into my IPod Shuffle and I am experiencing a problem with the volume - I can't put it up or down.
It's not the "limit volume" thing, I already tried that...
    Any suggestions..?

    Hey paralelopipak,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the headphones have a volume problem only on this iPod. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • ITunes 11 freezing while transfering music, and can't eject it, so I need to disconnect the cable, then iTunes works just fine and my iPod Shuffle is in restoring mode. I've been having this issue for weeks, and never had it before with iTunes 10.

iTunes 11 freezes and can't eject my iPod, so I need to disconnect the cable, then iTunes works just fine and my iPod Shuffle is in restoring mode. I've been having this issue for weeks, and never had it before with iTunes 10. Please tell me at least a way to eject it without losing all my data and being forced to format/restore the iPod.    I've got 2GB iPod Shuffle 2nd generation(:D)

As a test, shut down (power off) your computer and disconnect all USB devices including hub (except for standard keyboard and mouse if normally used).  If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).  Do this to reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer.  Does this problem recur when the shuffle is the only USB device?
If it does (as another test), select the shuffle in iTunes, so that its Settings screen is showing.  Check the box for Enable disk use, and Apply.  Does that make any difference regarding this problem?

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
    How to reset iPod
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • Ipod Shuffle Dock Issues

My ipod shuffle 2nd generations connector has snapped off inside the ipod shuffle itself. Rendering both the ipod and dock useless. I have tried to call customer services but apparantly my serial number is not known and they cannot help me any further. I bought it from Comet in July. Can I take it back there?
Truly awful product. I'd just bought a USB adaptor too!!

I have the same issue. Called Apple in Israel and they said the warranty doesn't cover breakage but if I can get the piece out they'll be happy to sell me a new dock.
This was my concern from the first time I saw this ridiculous design for the dock. The previous fill USB connector was great. Why couldn't they have at least gone with one of those standard small USB to big USB cables?

  • Ipod Shuffle  has issues

My ipod shuffle when i turn it on ir gives me this orange blinking light . and when it is connected to my PC it does nothing. but blink it's orange light. This is connected to a windows machine, when i look into device manager, i see the ipod but no driver associated w/ it i have tried to run the updater, it just sits at the initalizing phase !!
Can some one tell me what is wrong w/ it ? i have Also removed itunes, and ipod updater .. stopped and restarted the SVC as per the support docs on the apple site.
    Please help !!

I was having similar issues. Tried updating, resetting the shuffle like they suggest,(which I am convinced does nothing,) and finally figured out a solution on my own.
Opened up my computer on my desktop and noticed my comp. was not recognizing it as the name I gave it but rather just removeable drive F:
I tried to open it and it said there wasn't anything there. After clicking ok my comp said that drive F: was not formatted and asked if I wanted to format it. I clicked yes and was on my way again.
See if that helps some of you.

  • My ipod shuffle is no longer reconized on my computer and restoring issues.

. when i plugged my ipod shuffle g1 in a few days ago itunes said the i had to restore my ipod. i did not want to but i had no choice cauz it already deleted my songs. after 5 trys it said "cant restore ipod"ipod". unknown error occurred (1418))(itunes did it by it self, i just put it in one very fateful afternoon. i spent 5 hrs on the computer and i still cant fix it) well i went to this web site to see if they could help me. i found something. it was a program for my ipod but by the time i downloaded it, it was too late. after a while plugging in my ipod "my computer" no longer reconized it as removable disk. a pop up comes up and says this device malfunctioned then my ipod disappears off the face of the earth. i would send it to the apple store but my warranty expired. bummer what should i do?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is funny how the same thing has happened to me.
By the way i am the same person as the first and second writter.
i have replied to my own messages because nobody else has replied in the first 5 mins i have opened this topic.

  • Connection issue with iPod Shuffle 4th Gen.

Hello, I have problem with my iPod Shuffle 4th gen. One day i tried as always to turn it on and listen music but i heard only short "info" sound and saw short green diode impulse and nothing else. My computer (windows 7) also can't find it, after plugging it on, ipod's red diode turns on for 5 sec. Any suggestions?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Ipod shuffle Wont play.. Seems like a battery issue

Guys ... can anyone help with this
My shuffle just stopped playing. Looks like the battery is dead. The lead indicator has no light when depressed. i have charged it via USB port and alos power adapter. The front status light shows green [ having been amber]. The battery led stil shows no light. All content is still visible in ITunes. I have reset it, also restored the software and then tried to charge it.
Still seems to be dead. When you depress the battery status button , the led display light on the front turns green and stays lit for appox 5 seconds.
    Any help appreciated

With a totally dead battery you wouldn't get the green status LED to light up. OTOH, that shouldn't light up when the battery check button is depressed.
Probable cause: Internal electrical fault, and won't be recovered. You can/should try the iPod Shuffle Reset Utility, but don't hold out much hope.

  • Ipod Shuffle Playlist Issue

I only use my ipod shuffle to listen to podcasts so I decided to organize all of them into one playlist in order not to have to jump around in voiceover. My idea with this was to create a playlist of podcasts, listen to them, and then delete that playlist and replace it with another. The problems is when I delete the playlist from my iPod it still list all of the podcasts from the deleted playlist on my iPod in the progress bar at the bottom, even though there is no podcast or playlist summary for me to access. The only way I have found to delete the listened to podcasts is to reset my ipod. Is there a way to delete a playlist and its content completely so I can put another playlist on it? I am unsure what to do since I am new to iTunes and iPod usage. Also, to clarify I am running the most current versions of iTunes and iPod software and I have the latest generation of iPod Shuffle. Thank you.

Does it connect to the car system through a USB port?  A shuffle is a simpler device (especially if it's 1st or 2nd gen), compared to a nano, so some things that a nano can do, a shuffle cannot do.  Interacting with your car audio system may be one of those things...
Also, if it connects using USB, is the car audio system also able to use a regular USB flash drive (with song files on it) connected to the same USB connection?  If it is, when you connect the shuffle, the car audio system may be treating it like it was a USB flash drive (not an iPod).  In that case, the car audio system is playing the songs (doing most of the work), and the shuffle is only acting as the data storage for the song files.
If that's the how it works with a shuffle, the "6" songs that DO play may indicate a file type.  Maybe the car audio system can only play MP3 files, not AAC files.  You shuffle may have 6 songs on it that are MP3 format, and the rest are AAC format.  You should note down what 6 songs do play on the car audio system.  In iTunes, find those songs and see if they have anything in common, such as the file type.  You can do a Get Info (from a right-click) on the song in iTunes, and look on the Summary tab of the Info window, to see the Kind.
