Ipod shuffle - music and audiobook

I've just bought an ipod shuffle and loaded an audiobook on to it which was fine.  I then loaded some music and whilst it appears in the itunes book folder I can't work out how to listen to it on the ipod shuffle?

I have one of those shuffles too. The 1st and 2nd gen shuffles were designed to work like single playlist. You can either play the items in playlist order, or in random order (shuffle mode).
So, you can do the following. Put all the items you want on the shuffle, including the audiobook. Select the shuffle in the sidebar so that its content listing is shown to the right. Drag the audiobook to the top of the list, so that it is the first item in the playlist order.
Now, when you use your shuffle and want to listen to the audiobook instead of songs, put the shuffle's switch in play-in-order mode. Triple-press the center button. That will take you to the first item of the shuffle's playlist, which will be the audiobook.

iTunes shows the music and audiobooks I've loaded to my iPod Touch, but they do not show up when I try to play them.  I reconnect to iTunes and it shows the music and books as being loaded on my iPod.
Sometimes the audiobook will play, then disappear from iPod's play menu after I reconnect to iTunes and load more music.  I've got plenty of free memory, and iTunes shows the files still on iPod.
....or should I just roll it back to iOS 5...  never had these kinds of issues with the old OS.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all AB and resync
To delete all ADgo to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>AB and try deleting them from there
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Can i send music and audiobook to an ipod without syncing?

I am wanting to get my newly blind grandmother, who lives across the country from me, an ipod so she can listen to music and audiobooks. Her facility caregivers can start and stop the music and books, but there is no way to sync the ipod to upload new material after I send it to her. I will upload music initially. But after it's with her is there a way I can a) send new music and b) more importantly, get her access to books?? e.g. If I used the audible.com app, will it magically send the books to her ipod without plugging into a computer (like the kindle does?). Any other ideas??
    Thanks.

    - You can purchase and redownload audio.com books on the iPod..  Thus you know the username and password for the account you can purchase them on a computer and or other place and she or someone else can redownload it on her iPod. The audio.com books will show on her device (if signed into the account tht purchased them) so it is easy to redownload.

    - Music is harder. To get music into the iPod's music app you either have to sync (via USB or wif (have to be on the same network so you can't do it remotely) or purchase the music from iTunes. If y ouse the same iTunes account, she can redownload iTunes purchases.

  • The computer I was using to sync my iPod crashed how can I transfer my music and audiobooks from the iPod to my new ipad?

The computer I use to sync my iPod crashed. How do I transfer the music and audiobooks to my new ipad?

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a thrird-party program like one of thos discussed here:
    Copy music
    - Connect the old iPd to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
    - Restore the new iPod from that backup. You will have to reeenter passwords since they only get restored to same device.

When I uninstall i-Tunes, won't I lost all my music and audiobooks from the computer?

it depends how you uninstall it.  If you delete the whole iTunes directory in ~/Music containing your music and audiobooks, then yes, your files will be removed.

  • IPod Shuffle Music Distorted

I got an IPod Shuffle for Christmas and I downloaded music and it worked fine for about an hour and now the music sounds distorted (can't make out the words on songs, although you can hear music...). Is this is a hardware problem or do I need to reset/reload?

I'm having the same issue on a 1st generation shuffle. Running the reset utility does not appear to solve this issue.
From my post on the same issue at iPod Forums (http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?p=1211599#post1211599):
+My uninformed guess is that this is an issue with the audio encoding. You used to hear this kind of frequency distortion on early (bad) MP3 codecs.+
+The problem described in the original post is not an issue with the headphone jack. It is rather like a karaoke effect where you kill the vocals by eliminating any signal in the "center" (instruments are panned right or left).+

  • 1G iPod Shuffle charge and play

Can I plug a 1G iPod Shuffle into the UBS power adaptor wall charger AND listen to it through the headphone jack at the same time?
It may seem like a stupid question but, I'm returning my 2G iPod because it can't do both at the same time.
    New sales pitch:
2G iPod Shuffle, It can't walk and chew gum!

Wrong answer, unfortunately, and your example (while
correct - it won't play when connected to a USB port)
    doesn't fit the question asked.
In fact, you CAN play the 1G Shuffle through the
earphone jacks using Apple's USB charger; many folks
are doing that in any number of applications where
they're just providing background music in a business
    or whatever.
It plays out of the jacks, not out of the base, and
that is why it doesn't work on the 2G model; there's
no difference between the two and no way to get to
the audio on the provided dock (making me suspect
that some ingenious German is working up a modded
dock even as we speak, something that will be a
slightly bulkier version of the current one but will
feature an earphone jack .... it should be possible
    to do that).
Not all USB chargers are created equal and, while
they will charge the Shuffle just fine, the shuffle
won't play. This has to do with how the pins are
connected in the charger bases themselves, and there
are several sites on the web which tell you how you
    can work around that.
Thanks, that was my suspicion and hope.
I tried fabricating a 'y' for the 2G with a 4 conductor 3.5mm female (to the iPod Shuffle dock), 4 conductor male (to the iPod Shuffle) and a 3 conductor female for audio out.
If only the dock (which was connected to the USB charger) and the 2G Shuffle were connected, the Shuffle would charge.
If only the headphones and the Shuffle were connected, the headphones work, i stereo, no problem.
BUT, once you plugged in both the headphones and the dock neither would work.
Sent the 2G back ordered the 1G and am keeping the Apple USB charger.
    Thanks

  • 3rd generation ipod shuffle voiceover and volume error

The voiceover on my ipod activates of its own accord, repeatedly, in the middle of songs (sometimes half a dozen times). It either gives me the name of the song or says 'playlist - one'. After this happens the volume of the music decreases to an inaudible level and I'm unable to increase it again manually (using the switch on my headphones). Sometimes it rights itself when the ipod has been turned off for a while but this time it seems to be stuck. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Or is it just kaput? Thanks.

It sounds more like your headphones might be bad; there is a short circuit in the control that's sending random signals without any button presses.
This is the 3rd gen iPod shuffle, so I guess the iPod itself does not have any buttons.  If you can get it to play at a normal volume, you might connect a regular set of headphones (without any buttons) to see if there is still a problem with volume and voiceover.  Or, if there is an Apple Store nearby, take it to the Genius Bar and ask if you can use one of their headphones to test it.  If it works properly, you can just buy new headphones.

  • I just got an iPod touch 4th generation for my daughter. I already have a iPhone 5 setup with iTunes. All I want to put on her iPod is music and apps. How do I set the iPod to only get that information using my iTunes?

I just got a new iPod Touch 4th generation for my daughter. I have a iPhone 5 that is already set up on iTunes. The only thing I want on her iPod from my iTunes is music and apps. How do I set her iPod up so that it only gets that information? Do I set it up as a new device? If so will that alter my iTunes?
    Thanks.

You can set up more than one device on your computer, and iTunes will remember the settings for each of them:
How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer
But you'll have to use your Apple ID to sync bought media to her device. Disable all other things you don't want to sync like photos, contacts, etc.

  • IPhone's iPod content (music and videos) no longer visible!

I just upgraded my iTunes to 7.6 and now, after syncing my iPhone, all of the iPod-type data (music, video, podcasts, etc.) is now not visible on the iPhone. The "capacity" bar at the bottom of the iTunes screen show that all of the data (5.76GB) is still there, but now it is all the orange color for "other." My photos are still yellow in the bar and viewable on my iPhone, but I get a "No Music" and "No Videos" screen on the iPhone when I try to view that content. Apparently it is still there, but somehow the "file type" has been changed. My only two recent changes are updating to iTunes 7.6 and upgrading the iPhone software to the current 1.1.3. I've tried restarting the iPhone with the home/powerswitch method and have rebooted the computer several times as well. I was going to try and downgrade iTunes by installing 7.5, but another user noted that 7.5 will not read the updated 7.6 playlist. ANY IDEAS?? (all of this is on 10.4.11, not Leopard.)

    Hey Larry,
I went ahead and did a "restore" and everything was back to normal. It did take a while, though, as it wiped out then re-copied over 7Gigs of data to the phone. It was a hassle, but all is OK. I'm still concerned, though. I also spoke with a Genius at the Apple store who had never seen this, and thought it was a problem with the "file type" in iTunes, but i checked and movies were still "movie" filetype. He suggested MANUALLY checking/adjusting every file, but that is rediculous and there were hundreds of songs and videos!! Anywho, on my iPhone the date outside of the iPod items (music, videos, podcasts, etc.) was not effected, and all is back to normal after a lengthy "restore." Still looking for a "why" on this one...

  • Mac-formatted iPod with music and PC mind-jam

I bought an 80 GB iPod Classic and had it shipped directly to a musician friend in NYC who loaded his entire CD library onto it using his iMac. I now have 4100+ classic jazz songs on this iPod and would like to add my own CD collection to it. The obvious problem is that iTunes wants to format the iPod for PC and erase all of the content, all of which came from CDs, not the iTunes store. How do I get my iPod formatted for PC without losing this immense content? Can the iPod be backed up to an external drive and then load the tunes into iTunes? I don't have a clue what to do without buying a Mac, which I know is what Apple wants me to do. I actually need a new computer, but I have not mentally decided that Apple works for me with my office docs. Help, anyone?

iPod is not an idea device for music backup, therefore it is better to have a full back up.
You can copy all the songs from your iPod to your computer, see below

  • IPod shuffle driver and new iPod

    2 questions.
Question 1-I have a software update that keeps "unexpectedly quitting" when I try to download it. The iPod driver is version 3.1.
I use iTunes 6.0.5.and cannot update it any more, as I am on Mac OS 10.2.8.
    Any suggestions?
Question 2- My son won an iPod Shuffle! This is great but I do not know if it will work with my machine, especially if it is new and is second generation. (we haven't gotten it yet.) Will an iPod shuffle 1st or second generation work with my system, and any tips.

  • IPod shuffle current and previous gen

I was going through the Apple Store's refurb iPod site and saw that the current generation iPod shuffle and previous generation iPod shuffle look exactly alike. They're of the clip type. Now, what has actually improved in the current generation of the iPod shuffle?

The latest iPod shuffle was never claimed to be of a new generation at all - it still belongs to the second generation. However, there have been a number of minor revisions within this generation:
    a) Original: Silver only, 1 GB, old headphones

AppleStore refurbs page calls this the "previous generation"
    c) Neon colors replaced by pastel colors
