IPod Shuffle not being recognized by my PC

Hi, I just bought 2 Apple iPod Shuffles from eBay. I have a slight problem. When I plug them into my USB port, iTunes does not recognize them. They show up in My Computer though. When I try to re-install/reset the factory settings it says "Plug in a device" or something like that. My guess is that I bought them from a Mac user.
My question is: How might I go about converting it from Mac to Windows?
:: I am not sure this is the problem though, this is just a guess ::
-Thanks
HP Pavilion Laptop   Windows XP

I have a similar problem, my iPod Shuffle is being read in my Windows 2000 but in the iTunes it's not being recognized.
When I try to play the iPod, the green and orange lights blink simultaneously.
When I try and double-click on the icon for it in My Computer, it's saying that it can't be accessed because of an I/O device error.
Finally, I come to the site and get the latest update and when I try to update, it's saying that there's an iPod service error.
Hope that generalizes everything of what I'm saying and similar to Niko's problem as well.

  • New 3rd Gen. 4 GB iPod Shuffle not being recognized by computer or iTunes

Hey everyone, I've read some of the other posts here on this thread about other people having problem getting their computer to recognize the new 4 GB iPod Shuffle when plugged into the USB drive, and it seems like I am having a very similar issue. I just received my iPod in the mail a few days ago and tried plugging it into the USB and got NO response whatsoever from my computer or iTunes. I am operating with Windows XP (Service Pack 3) on a Dell Inspiron Intel processor, 2 GHz with 3 GB RAM, with iTunes 8.1 (just updated). When I put something in my USB usually I hear a noise (sounds like DO-do ha) which tells me that my laptop recognizes whatever is plugged in, and usually I get a little box in the bottom right hand part of the screen that says it's been plugged in. I didn't get any of this when I plugged it in.
When I first opened the box I turned the shuffle on and the light went green for 1 second, orange for 1 second, red for one second, then dead..I suppose this is expected since I figured it's new and needs to be charged, so I turned the shuffle off, plugged the USB into the earphone socket then into my USB, and then turned the shuffle on, and got nothing but the same sequence of lights. It's one thing if iTunes just didn't recognize the shuffle, but I checked the Device Manager and My Computer and the USB drive wasn't even listing the shuffle as being plugged in..maybe the USB cable that came with it is faulty?? I read all of the technical troubleshooting notes on here and tried the 5 R's and nothing is working at all..
I do have one guess about this though..I also have an 80 GB iPod 5th generation that I've used for over a year now for my car and that plugs into the USB fine with its respective cable and is recognized by iTunes..my question is, can my iTunes only recognize one iPod at a time? Does it reject the shuffle because iTunes is only allowed to sync to one iPod per account? If this is true, is there a way around this so it can sync both, or can I have two iTunes accounts on the same computer? But why does the computer not even recognized it when plugged in? Hopefully it is just the cable that is damaged and not the device..wow this was long, but any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

    According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
iTunes for Windows does not support having multiple iPods *connected simultaneously.*

I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.

  • HT1369 Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed and mobile programs associated with my non apple cellpho

Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed any mobile programs associated with my non apple cellphone. This seems to have started happening after the last Itunes update I did as I was able to put music on my ipod touch a month or so ago. Is there some way to go back to an older version of itunes? I really have no idea what else to do since I followed every step on the trouble shooting page for windows 8.

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
    Go to 'Settings'
    'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

  • 10.7 update and now my iphones/ipod is not being recognized.

10.7 update and now my iphones/ipod is not being recognized in windows 7 service pack 1. I have 2 iphones and an ipod 3G. I have to go into services and stop the apple mobile device and start it up again to get my devices recognized. Anyone else having the same issue? One of the iphones is not upgraded to the new iOS, the other phone and the ipod are updated.

    Hi,
You probably need to update to Snow Leopard10.6.8
Click Apple icon top left and click Software Update and keep doing that until it says software is up to date.
That should bring your itunes to the correct version.
    Hope this helps,
    Alan

  • 60 gb Video iPod (Windows) not being recognized

My iPod is not being recognized by my desktop anymore. I have tried all suggestions (reset, reinstall iTunes, etc.) except a restore because the computer doesn't see it to do a restore. It does cause iTunes to freeze up when the iPod is attached, but can't see it. My laptop sees the iPod OK, so what do I try now so I can use with my desktop? Thanks!
    Norm

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
    Still no joy, see these.

  • IPod is not being recognized in any sort.

I recently updated to Windows XP Service Pack 2 and my iPod is not being recognized in iTunes and My Computer. Before the update, when I connected my iPod to the computer it would be recognized as a device plugged into the USB but not anymore. Right now I have it plugged in and it's not even charging. I tried most of the usual things to do to fix the problem but nothing is working. Please help, thank you.

While my iPod works perfectly well on my Windows XP Desktop, my new Laptop with Vista Ultimate will not recognize the fact that it is even plugged in..
The iPod however does recharge nicely.. What is of concern is that my desktop is not portable and not readily accessible when I want to download new music and or photos.
Itunes appears to work well on the Laptop with the exception of not being able to access my iPod.
    Anyone have any ideas??

  • Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes now

i have a friend who has an ipod touch....everything had been going fine for him and then all of a sudden it was not being recognized any more....what caused this? he did say that he had done an update but i'm not sure what version he has....could this possibly be the problem.....does anyone an a fix for this?

I think Apple is having a problem at the moment, my Ipod touch was always fine syncing until the new update! (Even on older itunes version, I could'nt sync since new update came out) It just isnt recognizing the device...
Ive done all that Apple says to do, none of which helps at all, I reckon its thier own side of the problem they need to fix...

  • IPod touch not being recognized by iTunes on my MacBook, and on 2 other PCs

    Hello,
After scouring the web and these discussion forums to no avail, I've decided to post my problem. I downloaded iTunes 8.0 yesterday, and updated the firmware on my iPod Touch to 1.1.5. I tried connecting my iPod, and nothing happened. It is not being recognized by my MacBook. So, I tried using another USB iPod connector, and nothing happened. I tried using a firewire connector, and nothing happened. Frustrated, I tried connecting to my one roommate's HP laptop and see if it would get recognized there - no. I then tried on my other roommate's laptop. The device was recognized to be USB, but iTunes wouldn't go ahead and try and reformat it. I'm starting to lose my mind! I've tried resetting the iPod touch itself loads of times to no success. I've tried restarting while having the iPod connected to the computer, and still nothing.
    What should I do now?

Sorry about not getting to you on the quick-fast, but we aren't Apple employees.
What ended up being the solution you needed, as you said, you couldn't find any information already posted on this problem, so documenting your fix may help someone in the future.

  • My iPOD is not being recognized by my computer.....

I have a 30GB white iPOD. It charges and everything. Nothing seems to be wrong with it. My computer can't recognized it. I can't load/unload songs beacuse of this. I have 2 2GB nanos (the new ones) that work fine. What do I do?

You know, my new ipod (The 30 GB) was also not being recognized by my laptop and wasn't even charging.
I think I finally figured out that the usb cord in my laptop didn't have enough power and now I am using my brothers desktop and it seems to work finally.
HOWEVER, now that it didn't charge successfully the first time for a few hours like recommended and I was playing around with it to make it work, I am afraid that my battery is all messed up.
When I thought I was charging it, it really was using up the battery. And there were times my computer would freeze in the middle of the process so I would have to restart my computer
Would anyone know if my ipod will be ok?

  • Ipod nano not being recognized since update

Ok, so everything was fine until i had to update my ipod nano(right around when the updated itunes came out). Since then, my ipod nano would connect sometimes, for a min. or two, or not at all. Now, it wont even connect, light up, charge, anything! It's not being recognized by My Computer, Windows, nothing.
I have tried reinstalling the software with the instilation disc, but all it did was pop up with an error saying im missing some file, and that only happened once. I know that its not the cable because the charger works and i know its not the usb port because other things still work in it. Also, i have plugged it into the back usb port, to no avail.
    PLEASE HELP!

Hey i am having exactly the same problem its really strange!! I have tried everything i can think of to fix it, reinstalling the USB drives and everything but it still wont recognise my ipod! HELP!!
