IPod shuffle not seen on USB

I have a strange problem connecting my iPod shuffle. If I plug it into the keyboard USB hub, iTunes recognizes it and I am able to load it with music, but if I plug it into the USB ports on the rear of the G4 it is not seen at all on the Bus (System profiler shows nothing connected to that USB bus) but it will charge up.
Very strange! Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this because where the computer is sited, the USB ports are not very accessible!
I have tried resetting the shuffle and reloading the software to no avail.
Many thanks
Simon

Actually, it doesn't sound like the same problem at all.
When you have the shuffle plugged into a USB port, it isn't the shuffle that's 'playing all day' - iTunes, on the computer, is playing the playlist of songs, copies of which are on the shuffle.
What's the charge status of your shuffle's battery?

  • 2nd generation ipod shuffle not recognized by usb 3.0 port, 2nd generation ipod shuffle not recognized by usb 3.0 port

    Hi,
My 2nd generation ipod shuffle will not connect to any usb 3.0 port.  I've tried on to computers -- one Windows XP and the other Windows 7.  Any ideas?

    Hi
I had the same issue with my Late 2009 Mac mini running Mavericks and iTunes 12. When I connected my 2nd generation iPod shuffle it would blink amber once then do nothing. This seems to be a common problem with the iPod shuffle and newer versions of Mac OS X (10.6 and up) and iTunes albeit with somewhat varying symptoms but the same overall problem syncing the iPod with iTunes.
The predominant go-to solution is to give the iPod more power by either connecting the iPod directly to a USB port on the Mac or by disconnecting all other USB devices. On paper this makes sense.
What worked for me, however, was the opposite. After trying to solve this problem for hours (weeks, months), I had success ONLY after adding a low-powered 4-port USB hub to the chain between the iPod and the Mac. I suspect this had the effect of throttling the power supplied to the iPod from the Mac. I was able to perform a restore on the iPod then sync my music over.
I can't tell you much about the USB hub except that it is running at USB 1.1 speeds (12 Mb/sec). In theory a USB 1.1 extension cable should also do the trick. You might even be able to use the USB hub in old wired Apple USB keyboard. I will attach a photo of the hub I used to this post for greater clarity.
    I really hope this helps.

  • IPod Shuffle Not Seen in iTunes

Okay, this thing was working fine a week ago. Now, when I plug it into the USB port (XP), iTunes starts, and Windows Explorer pops open showing the device. However, it does not appear as a device in iTunes.
    I have:
    reinstalled iTunes
    Deleted the Temp folder
    Booted using msconfig
    Changed the drive letter
    All to no result.
    Help!

....forgot to mention that the iPod itself works fine.

  • Ipod Shuffle Not Showing Up in Disk Utility, Finder, or iTunes

    Aaaaaarrrrrrggghhhhhhh!!
Until a few days ago, this 4th gen shuffle used to work fine re. syncing with iTunes on both my iMac and MB Pro (Mavericks & iTunes udated to most current).  Now it won't show in either machine, anywhere; not inDisk Utility, FInder, or iTunes - nor even in System Information, USB (as far as I could interpret those screens).
It takes and holds a charge when plugged into an outlet, and plays fine... I've charged it fully before plugging it into the computer(s), and have tried it with the iPod turned off, and on.
I've searched these forums, but don't see an exactly similar situtation described, or solved.
    Any tips out there?
    Thanks.

    Howdy sdpg,
It sounds like your iPod isn't being recognized in any way on either of your Mac computers. Normally if this issue is happening on more than 1 computer, it's either to do with the device itself, or the USB cable being used. I would start by using a differnet USB cable if you can. Then I would use the troubleshooting in the following article to help troubleshoot the computer(s), named:
iTunes: iPod not recognized in iTunes and Mac desktop
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1410
If the issue persists, then use the troubleshooting in this article to troubleshoot the iPod itself if needed:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • Ipod shuffle not turning on and not even charging now...

Okay I just went to turn on my Ipod shuffle (Second generation) and it won't turn on! I tryed charging it and the green light was on but wasn't blinking.. then after like 10 minutes it went off and now it won't even go on. It still won't turn on and it's not that old. I got it at Christmas. Some one help me please. >_<. And if any one feels like it and gets time could you dfo me the big favor of e-mailing me the answer at [email protected]? Thanks a lot everyone.

Okay.. Well.... I wrote above (Second Generation).
And the LED light has always blinked green when I've
put it into the charger. The only time Ipod shuffle
isn't suppsoed to blink is when inserted into a non
high speed USB port. I'm using the same USB port I've
been using. So I have no clue what's wrong. It was
raining yesterday and it may have gotten a little wet
but not more then a few drops and I don't think that
should be the prtoblem as others have washed theres
    by accident before.
Please tell me how the following description of status light behavior of the 1st Gen shuffle matches what you've said above:
from page 16 of the iPod shuffle User Guide:
To charge the iPod shuffle battery:
Remove the USB cap and connect iPod shuffle to a high-power USB port on your computer. The battery status light on the back of iPod shuffle turns on. The iPod shuffle battery is 80-percent charged in about two hours, and fully charged in about four hours.
When the battery is charging, the iPod shuffle status light is amber. When the battery is fully charged, the light is green until you disconnect iPod shuffle. If you don’t see the status light, try another USB port on your computer. Note:
If iPod shuffle is being used as a disk (see page 18), the status light blinks amber continuously.
Here's the 2nd Gen shuffle version:
When the battery is charging, the status light on iPod shuffle is orange. When the battery is fully charged, the status light turns green.
Note: If iPod shuffle is being used as a disk (see page 19) or if iTunes is loading songs or settings onto iPod shuffle, the status light blinks orange...

  • IPod Shuffle not recognized by windows 8 but is by Windows 7

iPod Shuffle not recognised by WIN 8 but is by WIN7
When connected via iTunes iPod Shuffle charge light does not come on and WIN8 Control Panel Hardware status indicates a problem with the iPod. WIN8 troubleshooting results in the following message:
Windows is uninstalling this device. (Code 21).
No such problems exist when iPod is connected in WIN7 via iTunes i.e. charge light came on and the device was recognised OK by WIN7Control Panel Hardware status.
Is there any fix to make WIN8 behave OK like WIN7 for iPod Shuffle?

first try reinstalling itunes on 8, also have all your files been moved over to win8 or maybe try restoring the shuffle

  • IPod and iPod shuffle not connecting to PC b/c of USB ports

My dilemma is that my PC doesn't like to recognize my 2nd gen. iPod or my 512MB iPod Shuffle in the USB ports. Whenever i connect them it says "Hi-speed USB device attached to non-Hi-speed USB Hub." Obviously the problem lies in the PC, but it always used to recognize the iPod and now it won't. I am curious if anyone knows what the problem may be (with the exception of getting hi-speed USB ports) if they could help me out please!

I've been an Apple supporter long enough to be labeled a fanboy by some, but I've seen their software quality control fall off a cliff over the last year, culminating with anything and everything related to iOS 8 and Yosemite. This release has been an utter failure. And I'm not referring to short term lapses like the calamitous iOS 8.0.1 upgrade that virtually bricked people's iPhones, since at least that was corrected in a relatively short amount of time. I'm referring to virtually every tent pole feature that hasn't even remotely worked as promised: iCloud Drive, iCloud Photo Library, Handoff, phone calls on Mac, AirDrop, etc. And now,. something as simple as recognizing a current generation iPod in iTunes. And that's not to mention the aforementioned software's impact to boot times on the Mac and battery life on the iPhone. It's sad and pathetic.
I may not have much of a choice when it comes to computers and smartphones, since everything else on the market is far worse, but I will not be spending another dime on this company's products or services until and unless they clean up their act.

  • IPOD Shuffle not recognized by computer, and caused a  USB power surge

Device is not recognized by computer, and I tried the listed support recommendations.
The problem originated when I plugged the IPOD shuffle directly into the computer USB ( not using a hub), and this caused a warning window to appear saying unknown device has caused a power surge to this port, and most be removed. Prior to this event, the IPOD shuffle has worked (with direct contact with computer usb or through a powered highspeed usb hub) without issue for nearly 1 year. Any taker's on this issue? Thanks.

    Hi JBR,
Go to your control panel and click on Install/Uninstall programs. Scroll down and see if you have multiple versions of the ipod updater installed on your computer. If you do, then uninstall both versions. Reboot your computer.
Next, go to the downloads page and download/install the 1-10-2006 ipod updater. Once installed, go to your start programs and select ipod updater from there. Plug in your ipod and wait a moment. If it's like mine, it'll recognize your ipod and then you can do a "restore" for a clean format.
After that, open itunes and life should be good.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPod shuffle not being seen in iTunes.

    Hi,
I've got a 2nd generation shuffle, I can not get it iTunes to see it except for a short time on the left pane then it disappears. I've got the latest
ITunes, am using Mountain lion. I've got it charging right now thinking it the battery might be dead. Anyone else have any ideas?

With the iPod still connected to iTunes and your Mac, try resetting it.

  • My Ipod Shuffle has fried two USB ports in my computer

    Hi!
I have been reading through all the forums, but I have not seen anything written about Shuffles burning the USB ports.
My Ipod shuffle was connected and suddenly, I heard an explosion and my computer when black. I went and changed the ipod at the store, got another one, and the same thing happened with another USB port.
Now, I change the USB dock, but still the light in the Ipod won't change to green.
    Please, let me know.
    Regards,

Apple cannot fix your PC... the warrenty for the PC is with Dell so only they (or an authorized repair centre) can repair it. Apple will repair your shuffle should it be faulty.
I would recommend trying a re-installation of Windows and if that doesn't work, contact dell for the repair.

  • New 3rd Gen. 4 GB iPod Shuffle not being recognized by computer or iTunes

Hey everyone, I've read some of the other posts here on this thread about other people having problem getting their computer to recognize the new 4 GB iPod Shuffle when plugged into the USB drive, and it seems like I am having a very similar issue. I just received my iPod in the mail a few days ago and tried plugging it into the USB and got NO response whatsoever from my computer or iTunes. I am operating with Windows XP (Service Pack 3) on a Dell Inspiron Intel processor, 2 GHz with 3 GB RAM, with iTunes 8.1 (just updated). When I put something in my USB usually I hear a noise (sounds like DO-do ha) which tells me that my laptop recognizes whatever is plugged in, and usually I get a little box in the bottom right hand part of the screen that says it's been plugged in. I didn't get any of this when I plugged it in.
When I first opened the box I turned the shuffle on and the light went green for 1 second, orange for 1 second, red for one second, then dead..I suppose this is expected since I figured it's new and needs to be charged, so I turned the shuffle off, plugged the USB into the earphone socket then into my USB, and then turned the shuffle on, and got nothing but the same sequence of lights. It's one thing if iTunes just didn't recognize the shuffle, but I checked the Device Manager and My Computer and the USB drive wasn't even listing the shuffle as being plugged in..maybe the USB cable that came with it is faulty?? I read all of the technical troubleshooting notes on here and tried the 5 R's and nothing is working at all..
I do have one guess about this though..I also have an 80 GB iPod 5th generation that I've used for over a year now for my car and that plugs into the USB fine with its respective cable and is recognized by iTunes..my question is, can my iTunes only recognize one iPod at a time? Does it reject the shuffle because iTunes is only allowed to sync to one iPod per account? If this is true, is there a way around this so it can sync both, or can I have two iTunes accounts on the same computer? But why does the computer not even recognized it when plugged in? Hopefully it is just the cable that is damaged and not the device..wow this was long, but any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

    According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
iTunes for Windows does not support having multiple iPods *connected simultaneously.*
