Ipod shuffle plays in reverse when restarted

Ican play my Ipod shuffle in shuffle mode for an Hour today and when I play it again tomorrow in shuffle mode it will play the same songs from where I left it but in reverse order. So even though I have 8 hrs of tunes stored I effectively only hear the same songs over and over again .
Any advice.

I have found another disadvantage to using Dopi.
I've had times when a podcast doesn't get downloaded fully: after downloading an episode of an hour-long program the podcast shows up in iTunes as being just, say, 23 minutes long. Normally you could delete that episode, click the right-pointing arrow in the line with the name of the show (NOT the line for the episode) to bring up the show in the iTunes store, and download the episode again (and again, and again, sometimes).
If an episode doesn't download properly in Dopi, clicking on that arrow in the show name's line brings up the show's website, and often you cannot simply get a particular episode of the podcast from that website.
This is not so much a complaint about Dopi -- not much they can do about it, I reckon -- but about the fact that we need something like Dopi at all. Feh.
For me, it is only "Talk of the Nation - Science Friday" that I want in order, as they break up the two-hour show into segments (convenient, yet not so for the Shuffle) and often talk about what's been said in a previous segment, which for me comes later. I've dropped Dopi and now I either load just one segment of Science Friday with a few other shows, or I load all the segments and mutter under my breath when I hear references to a previous segment I'll not hear until after the current one.

I want to use an old 3 GS iPhone that is no longer in service as a phone now as just an iPod to play music. When I connect the phone to the computer with iTunes running, iTunes says it can't connect to the device because it didn't get a valid response from the device. How can I get the system to recognize the phone, and let me rename it as my iPod, instead of my phone?
As an aside, the current installed operating system on this old iPhone is 4.2.1, but that wasn't one of the selectable options in the operating system list dropdown below. Don't know if that makes any difference.

I'm having the same problem.  I'm using a new shuffle usb cable in my 2nd generation shuffle and nothing shows up on computer.  I'm wondering if the dock for the second gen is different than the new usb cable direct into the 2nd gen shuffle. I don't have a dock for it.  Before I buy one on ebay I hope someone can assist.

  • Why can't I get my ipod shuffle to do anything when I know the battery is full

Why can't I get my Ipod shuffle to do anything? Before it stopped playing, saying or doing any thing I checked battery and it was full! This has happened before with another Ipod shuffle and I took it back. well, my new one is doing it. It plays for a while and then it decides to stop. Has anyone else experienced this?
    Headphones in properly. Check !
    Battery full. Check !
I can not even see a light when I switch it on and off. No voice over to tell me anything. Zero music!
Played music for about 1-2 hours max. Should be more than this! Checked battery before it stopped anyway and this was fine.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Shuffle playing position lost when installing an app

Since i very much value the shuffle mode (so i can listen to every song randomly without hearing it twice), i find it very important that the iPod Touch remembers it's playing position when paused, but whenever the device is turned off or connected to the PC, it loses it's shuffle playing position. For that i made amends by not turning it off anymore and buying a USB power adapter, since when charging the iPod Touch with the USB power adapter, it does remember the shuffle playing position.
But lately i noticed when i just played a few songs (from the +/- 1000 songs on my iPod Touch) in shuffle. So lets say it's on song 20 of 1027 songs, the next day when i resume playing it's suddenly on song 792 of 1027 songs (792 is an example, i've seen it go to 872, 370 and 588 as well, so it seems random), while it's still the same song which was on pause. I tried to figure out what i did on the iPod Touch which was causing the loss of playing position and found out that it happens everytime when i install an app from the App Store.
I've tried to turn off my iPod Touch as well as reset it, but both options didn't resolve the problem. Also i'm using a 1G iPod Touch.
Can more people here recreate this bug?

    Anybody?

  • Will ipod shuffle play on xbox?

Last night I plugged my son's ipod shuffle into our xbox 360 and it recognized it by name, just fine under the music section. But then when I went to play music all the songs had this red circle with a line through it, behind them on the list, indicating that none of his songs would play (which they didn't). I assume the Xbox 360 is Windows OS. Does this mean I should buy a Sandisk or something else if I want to play digital music through our xbox (which in turn plays it through the surround sound)? I never tried this with my other son's Sandisk but it's got the USB port so hopefully that will work because it's not an Apple. Is this true that Itunes isn't compatible? -with anything else?

    Hi,
My ipod Shuffle works just fine, I know EXACTLY what issue you're having, (had the same issue with my ipod nano and Video on the 360) I will be that your shuffle has the songs as AAC rather than the MP3 Format. Out of the box the Xbox 360 dose not support the AAC Format so songs on the iPod would have to be MP3, I just took a peek and there is a patch you can download on your xbox 360 (must have xbox live to download this patch, either silver or gold account) that adds AAC support to your xbox, Download and install that patch on the Xbox 360 and your problems are over (If you cannot get the Xbox 360 online, you can't get the patch meaning no AAC play back, just convert the music on the shuffle (in itunes) to MP3 the reload the shuffle with the MP3s
    Hope that works!

  • First Generation Ipod Shuffle: Play count and Last Played date

I have a 1st Gen Ipod shuffle that works great in all other respects but it doesn't track the number of "plays" or the "last play" dates. Which means I can't use the "Smart Playlists" Itunes feature to be sure that the music on it stay fresh, non-repetitive. Another problem is if I listen to a podcast on the Ipod Shuffle then in Itunes the podcast appears as though it has never played before. This gets confusing as I listen to a number of podcasts.
I have tried resetting and restoring the Ipod shuffle. Is there anything I can do to it to make it track the number of plays or last played dates?

All my tracks should be MP3s or AAC.  I ripped them myselfs with iTunes.  I may have bought some songs directly off of record labels or some other online music store, but I own my music legally whether I bought it on CD or got given it by magazines or record labels.
I went to the gym today.  I set the shuffle to random.  Some songs were synched back to iTunes but they weren't the songs I listened to, at least not all of them.  Some of them may have been the songs I listened to last workout, at least one or two of the songs updated I did listen to today.
I listened to some other songs last night on my main Mac so it is easy to determine which songs iTunes updated this morning.
I haven't had much time to play with Match.  It is still updating and uploading, it has 6000 songs to go.  That means in a half month of trying it has managed to find and/or upload a little over 1000 songs actually close to 2000 now.  It is something, but it isn't the service I was sold.  All my songs and playlists were supposed to be available in the cloud.  That hasn't happened and in the case of my smart playlists will never happen.
I'll read you link, but I wrote a blog posting how I was disappointed with the service so far.
    Thanks!

  • Why is my ipod shuffle pausing my music when the screen times outs?

My Ipod shuffle is pausing whenever the screen times out...please help.

Make sure your headphones are plugged in all the way, meaning you cannot see any of the silver still showing from the headphone's plug.
A feature of the Nano is to put it to sleep when the display goes out and it does not detect any headphones.

  • IPod shuffle plays but isn't recognized by my MAC

My son says he can listen to things on his Ipod shuffle. His battery is fine. When we connect it to the computer, and turn it on, we see the green light flash once, no orange light ever flashes and the computer doesn't recognize that it's connected. I have tried it in our two MACs and a PC laptop. Is there a fix anyone knows about?

Hi judym and welcome to Discussions,
While the ipod is connected directly to your Mac and you launch or open iTunes does the ipod appear in the menu?
If you are just connecting the ipod to your Mac or PC and waiting to see it appear it might not if you have not set up your ipod to be used as " disk drive " or selected in iTunes " Open iTunes when iPod is attached".
This might be helpful: iPod Storage Drive
Also launch iTunes and while the iPod is attached and select your iPod from the menu. Then select the Settings Tab and you can select features from the Options area including the Enable Disk use.

  • My ipod shuffle doesnot switch on when disconnected from pc

My ipod shuffle works well when connected to pc.
but when i disconnnect it,it doesnot even switch on.
    Kindly help.

Is it a fairly new shuffle?  Which model is it?  This article shows the four types.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1719
If it's a few years old, the battery could be worn out, so it does not hold a charge after you disconnect it.  Also I don't understand this
But now only if i connect it to my PC then it works.
A shuffle (2nd-4th gen) connects to the computer using the headphones jack.  It does not have a dock connector.  How can it work when connected to your PC?  You can't connect your headphones.  (I don't think a 1st gen shuffle will work when connected either).

  • Ipod shuffle shuts down PC when put in USB port

    Hello
I found a discussion on this topic from 2006 but there were no solutions.  Hopefully in 2014 there is someone out there that can help me.
I have successfully synced, loaded and recharged ipod shuffle on PC.  But this week I plugged in my ipod shuffle (early generation) into the USB port to recharge, the system shut down, and I got the "blue screen of death". Windows XP blue screen indicated there was some software or hardware that might cause harm to PC.  I had to close PC by pressing button on tower.  I tried couple more times and got same message.  No harm has been done to PC as far as I can tell.  I used the Safely Remove Hardware device and not sure it worked but removed shuffle.  I did do this 2 or 3 times with same result each time.  Ipod shuffle still works.
    Thanks!

I have found the solution.  I installed the most recent updates and it works now.

  • When I remove iPod (shuffle), I'm forced to restart computer

I have seen some posts about iPods forcing a restart upon connection, but my problem is when I physically remove the iPod (after ejecting it), I then get a message from iTunes that I must restart my computer. The message is right, because everything is frozen up. This is the first time I've had this kind of issue with the iPod (it's a year old). I seem to recall having downloaded the latest version of iTunes right before this started happening. Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you have any other USB devices connected?
