IPOD SHUFFLE PLUGGED INTO USB HUB BUT NOT BEING READ

I recently got a 4 port USB hub because I needed extra usb ports. I mainly use the hub to connect my flash drive, external hard drive and my IPOD shuffle, but the only thing that isn't getting read by the computer is the shuffle. Everything else that is conncected to the hub is being read by windows. The shuffle just sits there, when plugged into the hub, blinking a green light (which doesn't look normal). The hub itself is a 2.0 hub. HELP!

I had the same problem. Once in a while it still doesn't recognize the ipod, but I think that's a usb port problem. Unplug it and plug it in again and it should be fine. Just make sure you remove the original software first in the add/remove programs section!
Also, if Mac is so good (according to some people on this site), why did Mac start using the Windows XP software and not vice-versa!!! haha

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

HT4235 my iPod shuffle is detected in diagonostics but not in itunes

I have iPod shuffle 2nd generation, identified in diagonostics but not in itunes working in Windows7. Kindly help.

1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

Why do USB drives plugged into USB hubs make my Mac Book Pro (Retina late 2013) wake from sleep?

I have 2 x USB hubs, a Logitech USB 2.0 hub and a Broway USB 3.0 hub. Tested both and both seem to be the cause of my late 2013 Mac Book Pro waking from sleep. I ran syslog to find out why (syslog |grep -i "Wake reason") and the reason I got back was "kernel[0] <Notice>: Wake reason: XHC1" - this means nothing to me, but it didn't take too much mucking about to hunt the problem down and figure out it was the USB hub with any USB drive attached. If the drive is attached directly to the computer. No problem, computer sleeps fine.
This was a problem I encountered (and never solved) with OSX 10.6.8, a 2008 Macbook Pro the same Logitech USB 2.0 hub, but with different drives. I put the problem down to a bug that never got solved in an old system. But I am simply AMAZED after my update to a new MBP and new system that it is still about almost 6 years, a dozen MBP's and 4 systems later.
The other problem is that not only does the USB drive/ USB hub combo wake the computer it also loses the drive upon sleep and mounts it again upon wake. Then repeats this process every couple of minutes. And it obviously doesn't eject the drives properly because each time I return to the computer after I put it to sleep or let it go to sleep I get a giant list of "Disk Not Ejected Properly" notifications about it. Which I'm guessing could eventually cause some file damage.
I've tried combinations of different drives, different hubs (a Belkin and a no-name Chinese brand 2.0 hub) and the problem persists. Is there a solve to this problem? I'm surprised to see so little posts on forums about this. Am I just unlucky and got another combination of faulty/problematic hardware, or is this a real problem that exists for everyone? If not I would love to know if people have found winning combos of USB hubs and drives. But if it is, then it HAS to be solved.
If you have a Macbook Pro, then you are limited to 2 USB outlets, this is obviously a bare minimum and I would say that 95% of people using their laptop computer in the office or at home have a hub, and very likely a USB drive attached to it. I know actual Apple reps don't really pay much attention to the community support posts, but I've got 6 months worth of Applecare left and would like suggestions about how to get Apple's attention about this problem.
BTW Jettison (a 3rd party app that ejects drives properly before sleep) is not a solve. It is a 3rd party app that tries to fill a hole in a broken system. I don't want to eject my drive upon sleep, I want it to got the **** to sleep.

Is there a pattern to the time of day or other detail that may be
traced back to a OS X system cause of this odd phenomenon?
Are there any copies of system files on any of the attached USB
external drives? Any libraries, such as iTunes, iPhoto, etc?
Once the drives are indexed by Spotlight, are their permissions
ignored by the OS X? Content, if neutral, should not affect the
wake or sleep cycle; especially if they're ignored by the OS X.
Could there be a bad cable or other component? If so that would
be a difficult process of elimination to detect it. Usually replacing
most suspect components in the USB stream (external to Macs)
is a rote way to mechanically test that idea; & not 100% sure.
Does the equipment all have a good ground to the utility or house
electrical field? An intermittent ground may affect more than sleep.
Hard to say at this point. Maybe a late-night talk radio guru on
remote viewing could peer into your situation and sleuth it out?
Sorry to have run out of ideas, but the process must be electrical
& mechanical to some extent. - Or perhaps odd software inspired.
Do you have any phone-home spyware items inside, just jumping
at the chance to spill your information? Little Snitch may help.
PS: Perhaps the computer needs to go into Apple & have a genius
or product specialist at AASP test the unit thoroughly... BlueTooth?

1st gen ipod shuffle is recognize by PC but not in Itunes 10.4.

i was not using my 1st gen for a year now and decided to resurrect it now, when i plug it in my PC,itunes says that i should update it and reset,so i did.but after updating and resetng my shuffle, itunes cannot recognize it anymore.i tried all the steps in apple tech support but its still not working. PC recognizes it but not itunes. can anyone help me.

My ipod shuffle 2nd generation is charging but not starting.

My Ipod shuffle 2nd generation 4 yrs old is charging when i connect it to the computer it blinks orange light then when i eject it, it shows green light. But afterwards when i start it nothing happens. It used to work very nicely before but now Its doesnt respond at all. I have reset it several times. That most likely problem is that the iPod's battery is worn out and not able to hold a charge anymore. So, it appears to charge while connect to USB for power, but a few seconds after it is disconnected, it goes dead.

... another thing to check if your Device Manager is blank is this possibility:
No Items Appear in the Device Manager List When You Open It
otherwise, try steadily working through this document (apologies if you've seen this one already, but there are things in this one that you didn't explicitly mention having tried.)

Intel iMac won't boot up when iPod is plugged into USB port.

I have a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of RAM and 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Purchased new from Apple in January 2007. Running Mac OS X 10.4.10. Purchased a new 80 GB video iPod (v1.2.1) from Best Buy in June. Computer stopped rebooting soon after. I began by deleting preferences of various kinds with no luck. I've reset the P RAM, the System Power Manager or whatever ya call it. I've even done an Archive Install of the Mac OS. Yet every time I try an' reboot with the iPod plugged into the USB port I get the start-up chime then the gray screen and that's it. No gray Apple, no log-in window. I shut it down, unplug the iPod and it starts right up. Please, I'm beggin' ya. I don't want to have to wipe the hard drive and start from scratch. Any suggestions?

ABStrange -- the apple tech believes that the iMAC is trying to boot from the iPOD which is causing the hanging. Interestingly, if you wipe the iPOD clean, it will work flawlessly. The minute you put one song back on the iPOD it will hang again. Hopefully on Monday or Tuesday I'll hear something back. I'll let you know what I find out. I did mention this thread on the forum to the apple tech. Hopefully they take this seriously. Maybe it is a serious enough flaw with our iPODs that will warrant a replacement?
BTW: I upgraded to Leopard yesterday and the problem still exists. Was kind of curious to see if that had any effect.

This is after you reload itunes and it say successfull install have removed and reloaded itunes at least 5 times. Apple is of little help have spent hour on thier diagnostics. one thing odd it says to remove a program called quicktime that i never find.

This looks like a very common problem.
I tried everything. Reset, Safe Mode, checked all cable, Apple Services from the dminstration tools.... other devises, like my Iphone and Ipad works perfectly.Only this itouch doesn't. If I reset all I will loss all my data since I can't back it up. It's jailbroken and it was wotking fine. Could it be software that I downloaded recently?I'm not sure it will work even if reset all. IPhone 4 - Will turn on plugged in USB/Wall, but not charging

I recently upgraded to an iPhone 4S and as such decided to sell my reliable iPhone 4.
However, after selling it, i got email from the buyer advising that it crashed afer 6 hours and then would not turn back on or charge.
I was forced to take the phone back and am not sure if he hs tampered with it, or changed parts etc.
I have attempted a restore, but it says Unknown Error 21.
I have 2 questions:
1. Can this be fixed? Any ideas would be great as i am stuck!
2. Is there a way to confirm the IMEI Number of the phone without it turning on?
Any help would be great!

Reset the phone by holding the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears. If that doesn't resolve the problem you may have a bad battery.

You may need to reset it. Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen.
If it doesn't work the first time, give it a second or third go. Sometimes it takes a few/several tries.

Music found, but not being read

So i was on a plane when my ipod started acting up just skipping songs. So I reset it. Though when I did that it showed all my songs were gone. Though the space for the songs is still there. i then found the files looking on my computer. how can I get the files back showing up on my ipod?

As a test, shut down your computer and disconnect ALL USB devices. Do this procedure to Reset the shuffle

Start up computer with nothing connected, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if it's not a laptop). Run iTunes. Connect shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer. See if there's any improvement,
If the shuffle is now recognized, there may have been a USB device conflict previously, or maybe all of the devices connected at the same time overloads the USB bus (for power). An iPod charges its battery while connected, so it is a high-power USB device.
