IPod Shuffle problem ( old version )

The problem is that my computer just won't recognize my iPod shuffle . iPod is working but i just cannot load that .
thanks when u can help .

Hi Reins0,
you might want to try the iPod Five Rs Assistant.
Other than that, have you tried the iPod Shuffle Reset Utility? Be aware that you lose everything that is stored on your iPod when you use that utility.
You might get some more help in the Apple iPod shuffle (First Generation) Forum.
Hope that helps,
Lars

  • TS1363 I have an ipod shuffle, 7yrs old. Says I have an error and to re-install. Then it tells me, this file cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. I cannot find any newer version and don't recall downloading it anyway.

Told to re-install itunes. When I do, it tells me "This file cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes." Therefore I can't re-install! Can't seem to find a way to get itunes back. This is a 8 yr old ipod shuffle...

The latest version of iTunes can be downloaded here
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
As long as your computer supports it, the latest iTunes will work with all shuffle models, back the first one.
Just one thing.  The latest iTunes hides the sidebar, which can be confusing for long-time users.  To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under Views, select Show Sidebar.

  • IPod shuffle problem with iTunes 7

In all previous versions of iTunes I had an icon of my iPod shuffle always visible on the left hand side of the screen underneath the library. This allowed me to drag and drop new content to this icon and remove old content. Then, when I plugged my shuffle into the USB port iTunes would update my shuffle with the new content and remove the old content. The icon of my suffle would stay displayed in iTunes even when my shuffle was not conneced to my computer.
Since installing iTunes 7. The shuffle icon only displays when my shuffle is synced to my Mac. When I unplug my shuffle the icon disappears. The other problem is that once I sync my ipod shuffle and start dragging content to the shuffle it automatically starts downloading and slows down the whole process of dragging a second or third piece of content to the shuffle.
I really liked having the ability to organize the content on my shuffle without having the shuffle synced. Any suggestions how I can get this to work in iTunes 7??
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Unfortunately, as you are aware, the Keep this iPod in the source list option does not exist in iTunes 7.
So the first thing you will probably want to do is let Apple know your feelings on the matter by submitting the feedback form on this support page .
Done that? Okay then, so now you'll probably want to make the best of the situation by figuring out if there's any kind of workaround to deal with the matter.
The best I can come up with is suggest that you create a playlist dedicated to your iPod shuffle which, for discussion's sake, we can call the iPod Shuffle Playlist.
Once you have created that playlist, when you connect your shuffle to your computer you can drag the Shuffle Playlist into your shuffle.
After disconnecting the shuffle you can get to work on modifying the Shuffle Playlist for your next update.
Note that you will have to manually clear the iPod shuffle's contents before putting a new Shuffle Playlist on it.

  • IPod Shuffle + really old Windows ME computer

I'm planning on giving my ancient computer (running Windows ME) and my old iPod shuffle to my mother. What software do I need / can I use with this hardware combination? There is currently no version of iTunes on the computer. Probably all she'll want to do is check out CDs from the library, rip them and put them on the iPod, and then listen to them while she gardens.

    1) Yes with out Itunes taking the Shuffle out of data mode (I know you can't use Itunes on that computer) the orange light will continue to blink even after the Shuffle is fully charged.
    2) Yes it will be safe to remove.

  • IPod Shuffle, the old one

hey, im a new user but i've been using my iPod for like 1.5 years n i was happy. Now its ******* up like a hippie, i mean, i got some problems with it. It's shuffle, the old genereation, 512Mb. It was nice until it started to blink several times after i sync it n turn on when it has to turn on n just play! I'm doin' everything ok, im not a monkey, ya know. But iPod is ******* up, I can only make it work, using iPod reset utility; after i format it, i sync it n get some music on, then i dc it n i'm like omg cool if it works - 80% it turns on with blinking, like it's empty. HALP MENS, PLEEZ!

There are a number of reasons no one is helping you here. First and foremost, this forum is for iPods, specifically older hard drive based players. This is not the shuffle forum. Secondly, you're grammar is so bad it makes my eyes bleed. And lastly, if you ran the reset utility, thats really all we can tell you to do.

  • New ipod shuffle problems..

I recently recieved a brand new ipod shuffle (first generation) from school. I went through the steps to install the software, then plug in the ipod. I have tried it in both USB ports on my PC but itunes still will not recognize it. The amber light is blinking, which means it's being recognized as a disk. When I first plug it in my Kodak Easyshare Software pops up as if my digital camera has been connected.
I have tried the "5 R's" to no avail.
    Why isn't this shuffle working?

    Hi Guillermo,
In thinking about your problem, I am wondering if the issue is one of permissions.
Is the account on the old iMac that you use to synch-up both iPod shuffles the same account name and uid as you use to synch the iPod shuffles on the new eMac?
Check and compare a typical AAC file on the old and new machines (ie. one that transfers OK and one that doesn't play at all). Select the file and hit Command-I to get the info window popup on each machine. Select "Ownership and Permissions" in the info window. Compare the owner and the group names listed.
Then, bring up NetInfo in /Applications/Utilities on each machine and select "Users" in the middle window. That will show a list of Users on the given machine. On each machine, select the User indicated in the info window and compare the value in the UID line. Even though you may have created a User with the same name on each machine, the order you created them in will determine their UID value. So you could have "guillermo" on each machine, but with different UIDs. Since what matters on OSX and UNIX is the value of UID, if the UIDs are different, the accounts are considered different.
Post back what you find. We can use the info window to change permissions to existing files, and can write-up an Applescript code to fix the permissions in the files you transfer in the future, if (as it sounds) this is a process you do regularly.
Sorry I don't speak, or write, in Spanish. I certainly recognize the added difficulty in solving this iPod problem that tranlating English into Spanish presents.

  • Please help diagnose iPod shuffle problem

Have a 1 GB iPod shuffle that is connected to an iMac G4 800 Mhz with 512 MB of RAM and running OS 10.3.9. I am having a problem that seems to be a common one. The iPod Shuffle simply won't mount. It doesn't show up on the desktop, doesn't run iTunes, doesn't show up in iTunes, and the iPod Software Updater keeps saying, "insert an iPod to update it", so it would appear the entire computer doesn't recognize it.
However, the iPod itself isn't bad, because when I plug it into a 12" PowerBook G4, it works fine. I have also managed to get the iPod Shuffle to work with the iMac under only one circumstance. If a wired keyboard is plugged in and the iPod Shuffle is plugges into one of the keyboard's USB ports, it works fine.
    I have tried the following:
    1. Complete update of every piece of software, including iTunes.
    2. Permissions repair, then restart.
    3. Unplugging all USB devices and plugging the shuffle into all three ports, one by one.
As I mentioned before, iPod Software Updater doesn't recognize the iPod. However, when I got a 12" PowerBook to recognize it, I ran the updater there, and it said the current firmware was up to date.
    What else can I try?

    Brad,
How about a few questions right back at ya!
Does it work every time when you plug it into the wired keyboard or did that just happen once? Since you mentioned a "wired" keyboard can I assume you would rather use a wireless one?
Since the keyboard worked fine but plugging the Shuffle directly into the 3 USB ports does not, my guess would be that the design of the Shuffle or USB ports make it hard to seat the device completely - you said the light was on but no mount happens, this might mean that it's not seated completely. I don't own a Shuffle and I would guess Apple would not design the ports badly but this is my guess if the keyboard, which plugs into the very same USB ports, makes the Shuffle mount.
Good luck and I hope you get the Shuffle going soon!

  • Big, confusing iPod Shuffle Problem

Okay, this is a confusing one, so read it carefully to understand it fully
The iPod shuffle in question is my ladyfriend's, bought in October 2005, and has never caused us a bit of trouble. Until last night.
Last night I downloaded and ran the new iPod Shuffle fix that Apple distributed (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303979) The iPod never had trouble in the past, but I wanted to keep up with the updates so that it stayed that way, and ran it.
After it had finished running and reset, the iPod dissapeared from the finder. I thought "great, all done and dusted." When I tried to plug it in again and add music, I went through the "what is it called" tabs etc. which come up when you first use a shuffle. It was on the Finder, in iTunes, all was well.
I noticed that after a few seconds, the iPod dissapeared from the Finder. Stayed in iTunes, but had seemingly vanished from everywhere else. This is interesting, as it's one of the things that the fix is supposed to solve in the first place!
This is my problem. The iPod vanishes when something tries to use it. If I enable 'disk use' on the device, it appears. Turn it off, vanishes again. The iPod vanishing tricks have given me some error:1418's, which were fixed to many on a website dedicated to the 1418 error who used the fix. Even running older updaters doesn't fix these problems.
I'd like to have this iPod stop dissapearing when I open programs such as iTunes, and have it work properly again.
If anyone can contribute anything to this, I'd be very appreciative.
    Cheers everyone.

  • Solving Ipod shuffle problem

After a week of fighting with the ipod shuffle not playing songs and trying all of the suggestions I finally uninstalled the software and then reinstalled. Do not install software with ipod connected to USB. Windows attepts to format the ipod and I believe it affects the ipod.

I was hoping it would be something like a USB device conflict, but now the shuffle is the only thing connected...
This article was one of the ones you linked to above in your initial post
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
Under Part 9. Verify that USB drivers are installed, did you try the steps in If only "Unknown Device" appears?  That appears to be your situation.
Also, you said that the shuffle initially worked well enough to do a sync, then it had the same problem again.  If you can get it to work again initially, before doing anything else, try the following.  Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Summary tab.  By default, the checkbox for Enable disk use should be unchecked.  If so, check it and Apply the change.  See if that makes any difference.
(If Enable disk use was already checked, try unchecking it and Apply the change.  Basically, set it the "other way" and see if there is any improvement.)
NOTE:  When disk use is enabled, you have to eject the iPod in iTunes before disconnecting it physically.
If the disk use change makes a difference, that may provide a clue about the actual cause.

  • Ipod shuffle on old library

My first generation ipod shuffle is linked to a library on a computer that I no longer have. how can I transfer my songs to the library on my new computer?

The way iTunes and iPods are designed is not compatible with what you want to do. The best approach would be to open iTunes on your old desktop, and make a backup of your iTunes library, from which you can copy across all the songs from your old library onto your new laptop - not just the ones that were synced to the shuffle. One place to start for instructions on how to do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1364
The other approach is to search online for a utility that will copy songs off an iPod without syncing it, add those songs to your new library, and then erase-and-sync the Shuffle. This way, you only get to save whatever was synced to the Shuffle at the last sync.

  • Itunes 7.5 and ipod shuffle problem

I installed the Itunes 7.5 and then attached the new ipod shuffle. The itunes brought up the ipod shuffle but only showed the agreement screen. When I typed in that I accepted the software agreement it would not go to any other screen. I can import music to the shuffle but you cannot see it in itunes; you only see the agreement screen for the shuffle. By the way, I uninstalled and reinstalled the software twice.
What is wrong with this software?

To fix this, do the following:
Close iTunes, click on start and go to control pannel.
(Make sure it is set to Classic View) Double click on displays.
Click on the settings tab and change your screen resolution size to 1024 by whatever and apply that.
Close out of this, open iTunes and you should have the OK button.

  • Adding music to iPod Shuffle PROBLEM!!!

    ok...
when i try to put a music on my iPod Shuffle with iTunes after like 5~10 music the iPod just disconect from my pc and keep doing this all the time
anyone know how to fix that?

An iPod shuffle can't contain content from more than one iTunes library at once. Use the Transfer Purchases command in the iTunes Store menu or other methods to move the music to the new computer and then erase and sync it.

  • IPod shuffle problem; little gray dot?

    Hey there.
Whenever I put my iPod shuffle into the usb port on the back of my laptop, the iPod is displayed, etc ... But I can't take songs on or off anymore. I deleted them, and they don't show up as on, but when I turn the shuffle on, the same songs are on. When I add a song, I get a little gray dot next to the songs, and they are not added.
Please, some help with this ...
Oh, and I have the latest updater and the latest of iTunes installed.

    Read these articles:

This will explain the symbols used iTunes - what you describe is an item not yet synced on your iPod.

  • Ipod shuffle - problems syncing music

Just bought an ipod shuffle, have loaded my music on itunes and clicked sync music, it says this is done but there is no music on the device!

You can load content onto a shuffle manually, using Autofill, or by setting up automatic syncing.  This document describles those methods.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1719
NOTE:  If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
When you select the shuffle in the sidebar, under DEVICES, you should see the Sync button at the lower right corner of the window.  However, "syncing" does not come into play (for loading content) if you are using the manual method (or Autofill).  If you set up automatic syncing, syncing (any changes since the last sync) happens automatically when you connect the shuffle.
FYI - There is a link to the shuffle user manual, from this support web page for the shuffle
