Ipod shuffle second generation not recognized by iTunes or computer

Hi all,
So I was downloading songs off of LimeWire (shame on me, i know, but i had no money in the itunes store and i dont use my dads credit card for song purchases), and i put a song on my ipod shuffle 2G and it immediately disconnected from the computer. When I reconnected it to the dock, it did not appear in the "Devices" section of the iTunes sidebar, or in finder. It still plays music fine, and charges, but I would like to clear the songs off of it as I am giving it away. However, it doesnt show up in iTunes or in disk utility as another post elsewhere suggested, and the ipod resetter can't find it. So, does this sound like a virus or corrupted song file? I dont think it was, as whenever I download a corrupted song from limewire, the computer alerts me and doesnt allow the file into iTunes. any thoughts? help?
thanks

You might do better in the iPod forum.
With Limewire you get more than you pay for.

    I wish somenone can help.
Since I have bought my iPod, I was never able to connect it to my computer or any other computer (all PC's using Vista or XP). Always the same message "USB device not recognized". I have the latest iTunes version (8.0.0.35) and cannot find the trace of the iPod there too (logical indeed as the device is not recognized by the system).
While checking the USB port it says that the driver is not installed for this device (still the port works fine).
I just don't know how to charge the battery, connect my iPod and start using it. Is it a default from the factory or else...?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Ipod shuffle 1st generation not recognized by itunes

Right after I updated to itunes 12, my first generation ipod shuffle will not longer be recognized by itunes. I run Windows 7 and it is recognized when I open up windows explorer, but I can't get to it in itunes. Any help?? Thanks!

The 1st gen shuffle has REALLY excellent sound.  It is better than 2nd gen shuffle, and other iPods, for sound.  Because it has a separate docking connection (the USB plug), it is the only shuffle that can play music while it is charging.  Plus, I like being able to hold it in my hand and control it (not clipped).
Because I liked it so much, a few years ago, I bought some broken ones being sold on eBay.  Using these instructions
    https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Shuffle_1st_Generation
I took them apart and tried to assemble working ones by swapping parts.  Fortunately, the 1st gen shuffle is small, but not tiny.  Unfortunately, the most common failure point (by far) was USB plug component (including a very delicate ribbon cable that connects to logic board).  I have plenty of "spare parts" now, except for that USB plug part.  So I am VERY careful when connecting and disconnecting my remaining working 1st gen shuffle, and try to do it as infrequently as possible.

  • IPod shuffle (Second Generation) not recognized by Vista :(

I am using Windows Vista, having iTunes 7.4.1.2 installed.
However, my windows does not recognize or sync with my (2nd G) shuffle.
    Can someone here help me

Hmmm. Actually, it might not be vista related b/c I just tried it on an XP machine and found the same problem. The reset utility (which still doesn't work on Vista, btw) can't find it either. Oddly enough, it still plays music and the battery charges. I guess my choices are 1) throw it away; 2) alway listen to the same songs over and over and over; 3) have it repaired. I've already had Apple replace it twice, so that's not really a very viable option. I think I'll throw it away.
No more apple devices for me. I've spent more time with shuffle and Airport Express issues than with every other piece of hardware I have combined.
    Good riddens!

  • IPod Shuffle 4th-Gen NOT recognized by iTunes

I have this Shuffle that won't be recognized by iTunes and it has no music in it. When I connect it to my iMac it only shows up as a flash drive with a lonely file called "iPod Control." I tried deleting this file just to see what would happen but it isn't possible. It also says that the file has zero kb.
I don't think I have to restart my computer or iTunes or anything like that so there must be something else to do. Also I have everything updated. Your help would be really appreciated, thanks.

  • IPod Touch 3rd generation not recognized in iTunes

I just recently upgraded my Macbook software to version 10.6.3 because I purchased an iPod shuffle and the newest version of iTunes would not install with my old software. Now my iPod Touch 3rd generation is not being recognized by the newest version of iTunes (10.2). I have already restarted my computer, and shut it down and removed the battery for a minute before starting it up again. None of these things worked. This is the first time I have tried to sync my iPod touch since installing the new software so I am not sure what I need to do.

It sounds like this may be the fix:

  • Ipod shuffle second generation won't connect to my computer

I'm operating on Window 8.1 and my iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen won't connect to my computer. My USB port and cord are working because it does make the connection noise when I plug it in but it does not show up in My Comptuer or in My Devices on iTunes. This is the second iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen I've had this issue with.

If you have not already, as a test, shut down (power off) your computer and disconnect all USB devices (including any hub).  You can leave standard keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  If it's a laptop, connect its power adapter so that it's not running on battery power.  If the shuffle's power switch is ON, put it in the OFF position.  Power up the computer, run iTunes, and connect shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer, by itself.  This is a test for possible interference between connected USB devices.  Any difference?
If that does not help (or you already tried), does your computer have USB 3.0 ports (instead of 2.0).  If so, and if you happen to have an older USB 2.0 hub that is powered (has its own power supply), try connecting the hub to your computer and your shuffle to the hub.

  • IPod shuffle second generation not compatible with latest iTunes?

Edit: re-reading this message I notice I say sync when talking about the iPod shuffles. Note that there is NO sync option shown in iTunes, only auto fill. Whenever I say sync regarding the shuffles, I mean auto fill. Syncing for the iPod Touches works fine though.
My sister recently got three iPod touches for her family and I helped set them up. I had no problems setting them up at all. It's when she brought me two iPod Shuffles (generation 2), one for my niece since she's not old enough to use an expensive iPod touch, where the headaches began. When choosing to synch, iTunes says it is waiting for the iPod and hangs for a good 2+ minutes. After it unfreezes, with no error messages, I see no changes, and no music is on the iPod (either of them).
The iTunes version is 8.1.1.10, which is the latest currently. Much to my horror Internet searches show a multitude of people claiming the iPod shuffles gen 1 and 2 do not properly work with the latest iTunes software! Is this true, and if so has Apple released any statement on the matter?
This program came to our rescue:
    http://www.getsharepod.com/
I was successfully able to add music to the gen 2 iPod shuffles using that program, and indeed I know not to run both it and iTunes at the same time. iTunes was even able to display the tracks and play list I created with Sharepod, but the "fill" command still did the same thing: caused iTunes to hang for a time while saying it was waiting for the iPod and then continue as if it finished properly later... with no changes made at all. Even the check boxes for settings don't seem to save, but iTunes does properly name the devices. One is for one of my nephews and one is for my niece. Dragging songs to the iPod shuffle causes the same behavior of freezing for a time before unfreezing with no songs added to the device. I must note that by freeze I don't mean Windows says it's not responding. I can tab out and minimize/restore the program fine. All controls in the program such as clicking on play lists or trying to access the menus or clicking things do nothing until it unfreezes though. Since the iPod touches sync so incredibly quickly, I don't know if the program freezes during a normal sync.
After creating three separate libraries (my sister does not want each child having their own Windows name) and successfully showing the kids how to hold shift to choose a library when starting the program, each device is properly bound to each of my sister's family's names. As I said the iPod touches work perfectly so I am going to assume this is the dreaded incompatibly the latest software has with the iPod shuffle gen 2s?
Is there a fix for this issue or are we just stuck using third party software to deal with the iPod shuffles?

Thanks! SharePod really did the trick.
iTunes 8.1.1.10 wiped out my 2nd generation Shuffle. SharePod is the only way I can put songs in any more. From the looks of the forum I'm not the only one. Sure hope Apple figures it out soon!

  • Ipod shuffle 2nd generation not recognized

Just aquired an ipod 2nd generation shuffle at a yard sale. Plugged it in and I get flashing lights (sorry, color blind and I can't tell if they are green or orange).
Shuffle is not recognized by computer with either disk mode or in iTunes. Downloaded the restore program and it says waiting on ipod.
I followed directions to reset shuffle to no avail. iPhones and iPads work fine. Tried different USB ports to no avail. Restarted computer, etc. The only think I haven't tried is a new charging/computer cable. I don't have a spare for the shuffle.
    Any suggestions?

Well, this has been a real puzzle and I appreciate your advice.  I tried everything you suggested, everything I could find in other posts, everything I could read on Apple support and troubleshooting pages and nothing made a difference.  I pretty much gave up and decided to leave it alone for a few days and I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden things changed when I tried again.  My Mac was on, the Ipod was off, I plugged it into the Mac (and the yellow light started blinking but no iPod showed up on the desktop or in iTunes), then shut the Mac down for a few minutes and left the iPod off and plugged in.  When I turned the Mac back on I noticed that the only items in the dock that were "on" or "active" were the Finder and iTunes so I double clicked on iTunes and watched in amazement as it welcomed me to my "new iPod."  I followed the on-screen directions and the iPod appeared on the desktop and in iTunes at long last and I was able to download two audiobooks successfully.   I don't get it but I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.  I'm writing all this here in case some other poor soul is struggling with the same problem and has not yet tried all the steps described in these 9 posts.  Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
