Ipod shuffle unwanted pauses

certain tunes always pause after 10 secs or so of play. what can i do to prevent this?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Do the songs stop altogether, and just pause for a few seconds? Does this affect purchased content from the iTunes Music Store, or just any kind of song?
Be sure that those tunes play OK in iTunes, and that it really is just your iPod's problem, not that songs's faultness.
Try restoring your iPod, then loading the content back onto it through iTunes again:

  • Why is my ipod shuffle pausing my music when the screen times outs?

My Ipod shuffle is pausing whenever the screen times out...please help.

Make sure your headphones are plugged in all the way, meaning you cannot see any of the silver still showing from the headphone's plug.
A feature of the Nano is to put it to sleep when the display goes out and it does not detect any headphones.

  • Using my ipod shuffle together with my car stereo

I tried to use a normal cable o listen to my ipod shuffle in the stereo I have in my car and it didn't work. Is there a special cable or it only works with the its own headset?

    Hi-
From the Apple Support site http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3472:
When a standard headphone or audio accessory is connected, you can initiate audio playback by simply switching iPod shuffle from the OFF position to the play in order or shuffle position. The iPod shuffle should be in the OFF position for at least three seconds before switching it back on. iPod shuffle will resume playback of the content that was previously being played at a fixed volume level. This volume level cannot be adjusted from the iPod itself. If iPod shuffle is connected to external speakers or a car stereo, volume adjustment may be possible from those devices.
iPod shuffle will pause audio playback when the device is switched off or when the audio accessory is disconnected
    Hope this helps

  • Is there a way to have an Ipod shuffle pause at the end of a playlist?

I have one playlist with one file in it and I want the ipod shuffle (4th gen.) to play that one file and then end. The ipod just keeps repeating the one file when I put it on either of the two switch settings. Anyone know how to get it to pause or shut off at the end of the song?

It's a simple player.  That's the way it works.
If you can explain why (the situation when) you need your shuffle to play just one audio file, and then stop, maybe I (or someone else) can come up with a workaround to achieve what you need.

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen, Randomly Pauses

    Hi,
My 2nd Gen iPod Shuffle was working fine a couple days ago, but now whenever it gets bumped or nudged it stops playing for a few seconds and pauses. It also takes a lot of work to get it playing again, because when I press the play button again apparently it's eneough to make it pause. This has happened once before, but I don't remember how I fixed it.

    Got the same problem.
It think it's something like the cables that may have moved such as the buttons wich would explain why are they not well working.

  • Ipod Shuffle First Generation - Keeps Pausing

I've had my iPod shuffle (1GB) for over two years now and recently (as in the past two days) it has started to pause midway through songs. The pauses are random - sometimes close together, sometimes far apart. I have tried restoring the iPod and reinstalling the software - but nothing seems to work.
If anyone could post some ideas to solve the problem I would greatly appreciate it. Thankyou.

You can check the songs to see if they have issues, but you may just be at the end of your battery life.

  • HELP! iPod Shuffle Pauses for no reason!

Ive had my iPod shuffle around 6 months and around a week ago it randomly started pausing frequently half way through songs without my command. It just suddenly has outbursts of pausing and keeps pausing and as soon as I press play it pauses again until finally i give up and switch it off.
Ive tried updating it and charging it fully but no luck.
Anyone know whats wrong? Is the battery dying?
    Please Help.
    iPod Shuffle

It might be a dirty headphone socket. The iPod shuffle will enter pause if it detects that the headphone plug has been removed and I suspect that if the contacts becomes defective or dirty it could cause symptoms like you describe.
I'd try a series of rapid insertions and removals of the headphone plug to see if that might clean the switch or contacts. Also, I'm pretty certain that earlier versions of the shuffle firmware didn't have this headphone auto pause feature so if you could find a copy of the old firmware that might fix your problem.

  • Center or in short Play/Pause button on iPod Shuffle 4th Generation Late 2012 is not working

Does Apple replace my iPod Shuffle because the center or play/pause button is not working but all buttons are working except for the center button my iPod Shuffle is Silver and it has a scratches and a little dents and the back was pop up? what should i do help me does Apple replace it for free n warranty?
and if it has a Apple Care protection plan for iPod will Apple replace it for free?

If you did a Restore in iTunes, and it continues to have the problem, if it is covered under warranty or AppleCare, you should probably contact Apple tech support directly (not the users forum).  If you have an Apple Store nearby, a good way to do this is to make a reservation at the store's Genius Bar and take it there.  You don't have to have a reservation, but you can make one at the store's web page

Connect your iPod to your computer, wait for it to be recognized in iTunes. When it is listed under "devices," click on it. Then, click on the "Contents" tab. Right click on the unwanted song, and click delete.
Then you can go back to your Music Library and drag your new songs over, or you can autofill the iPod from your library or from a playlist by clicking on "autofill" at the bottom of the Contents tab.

  • IPod Shuffle no longer works after iTunes 8 upgrade

I'm not sure if this should be posted here or in the iPod Shuffle category so I'll post it in both places. I recently upgraded to iTunes 8 and I'm running OS 10.4.11. I have an iPod shuffle that was purchased new last December so I'm not sure what generation that makes it. It has always worked fine with iTunes 7 but now I can not get it to play. I can sync it with iTunes 8 and see that my songs and podcasts are there on the Shuffle but when I disconnect it and plug in the ear buds I get no sound. Nothing. I've tried to play with the volume, forward to different tracks, pause, play, etc. etc. Nothing. No sound coming from iPod shuffle at all now. It is charged up so that's not the issue.
I should also say that my Shuffle was working fine just moments BEFORE I synched it with iTunes 8 for the first time.
Is there a known issue with iTunes 8 and the Shuffle?
    Thanks in advance.

After searching the forum I finally found that others were having the same problem with the 1st Gen. Shuffle after upgrading to iTunes 7. Even though it was a different iPod Shuffle and iTunes version their solution worked for me.
All I had to do was delete the "Podcasts" folder that had been created for the Shuffle and voila!

  • How to Play Overdrive Media Books on an iPod Shuffle 4th Gen

    Hi,
Many libraries use Overdrive Media to manage audio books in various formats.  Once you have downloaded the book to the Overdrive Media Console on your computer, you can then choose to transfer it to a device (such as an iPod or other mp3 player).  When transferring WMA files with an iPod shuffle 4th Gen (I'm not sure about other gens) this creates a number of files with bizzare titles.  When you go to the book section on the iPod it will play the first section and then it will just continually loop and you never go on to the next section.  After working with this for a while I've figured out how to make this work.  This is not what I consider a satisfactory solution but more of a work-around.  I hope that Apple will produce a fix that will remedy this situation as a lot of people download audio books from the library.
    1.  When you transfer WMA audiobook content to your iPod, Overdrive Media does it via iTunes.  I believe it usese iTunes to perform a file conversion.  Once the conversion is complete, it transfers the converted file to your shuffle.  If you watch this occur, you will notice that while it is converting the file, it assigns it a strange number like 10347.  As each part of the book is transferred, write down its number.  You have to catch it during the conversion as once the part is converted it reverts to its title (something like "Where the Red Fern Grows Part 01").  But that title is never transferred to the iPod.  It retains the strange number.
    2.  You will notice that as each file is converted, the number goes up.  So as you write them down, they will look like 10347, 11671, 12003, 12865... etc.  I have no idea what these numbers mean but they become your section titles on the audio when the Voiceover button is pressed.  One other thing, sometimes the numbers restart like so:  18567, 19325, 345, 907... Again, not sure why but you must keep the order they were converted and transferred as this is the order in which you'll want to play them back.
    3.  Now you will have a list of numbers indicating the different parts of the book.  Turn on your iPod and use the Skip Forward button to until you hear the book start.  Listen to the fist section until you hear it start to repeat.  There will be no pause or anything so sometimes it is hard to pick up where the part ended.  Once the part has ended, hold the Voiceover button and listen to the strange number.  Next press the Skip Back button and listen to the other strange numbers which will be in order, last-to-first.  When you get to the number indicating the next part, press the Play button and you will now be on the next part.
NOTE: if you press the play button on the wrong part (strange number), it will shuffle that part to the end of the playlist.  But if you have the part numbers written down in order this won't be a problem.  Also, if you hit the forward skip or backwards skip while playing a part, it will skip to some place in that part.  You can get back to your original spot by skipping again a few times more in the same direction.
    EXAMPLE:
Let's say you are transferring a 4 part book to the iPod.  During this transfer you note the strange numbers during conversion like so:
    Part 1 = 11278
    Part 2 = 11942
    Part 3 = 12512
    Part 4 = 13398
Now your book is on the Shuffle.  Turn on the Shuffle and listen for the start of the book.  If it is playing something else like music or a podcast, press the Skip Forward button until you hear the audiobook begin.  This is usually accompanied by music and has the title of the book, etc.  At this point you can press and hold the Voiceover button and you will hear "11278" pronounced.  Release the Voiceover button and let this part of the book play to the end.
You will then at some point hear that part of the book start over.  Press and hold the Voiceover button and start using the Skip Back button.  You will hear in this order: "11278, 13398, 12512, 11942".  When you hear "11942" press the Play button and Part 2 of the book will begin.  Continue this process for each part until you reach the end of the book.
I've listened to several books using this method and it has worked fine.  It is sort of fiddly and you have to do some things that I think iTunes or the Shuffle should do but until Apple does something about this, it is the only way that it will work that I've been able to find.

It sounds like the Windows Media security update in Para x, below, may not have been done and your music setting may have been on Repeat.  As a review, here is a list of steps that may help clear the problems up.
Many libraries worldwide now use Overdrive Media Console, which comes in Mac an Windows versions http://www.overdrive.com/Software/omc .  Some find the mobile device transfer process confusing.  To load or delete a WMA or MP3 (Macs can only download MP3 books) audiobook onto an Apple mobile device see the "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" video in the guides at Step 7, then do the following.
    1. For Windows versions, you must first do a security update of Windows Media Player (even though you won't be using it) using Internet Explorer at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite .
    2.  Open iTunes, plug the mobile device into the computer USB port and open the Overdrive Media Console.
    3. Highlight the mobile device in the left hand menu of iTunes and insure the "Manually manage music and videos" box is checked in the Summary Tab. If the mobile device storage is full, transfering will delete that portion of music necessary for the ebook.
    4. Highlight the book you want to transfer in the Overdrive Media Console and click the Transfer Button.   A window opens permitting you to click the boxes for parts of the book you wish to transfer.
    5. After the book has been transfered, when you click the disclosure triangle (arrow) to the left of the iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes, MP3 books will show up under the Music subsection and WMA books will show up in the Books subsection.  Once the mobile device is disconnected from iTunes, MP3 books will show up in the Songs list of the mobile device and WMA books will show up in the Books list.
    6. To remove a book from a mobile device plug the device into the USB port and open iTunes. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes so that you can see the device’s subcontents. For an MP3 book select the Music subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.  For a WMA book, select the Book subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.
    7. The Overdrive Media Console Guided Tour (videos) is at http://www.overdrive.com/Solutions/Libraries/tour/MenuWelcome.html .  The "Portable Devices" and "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" videos are there.
    8. To find a nearby library for ebooks search http://search.overdrive.com .  You can download the software, search for books and see tutorials without an account at the website of any library that uses Overdrive, however, you need a library card to download books.  At this library site, for example, the software and guided tour are at the bottom of the left hand menu.

  • Problem ipod shuffle 4 gen. 2 Gb

    HI
a few months ago my device ipod shuffle 2GB gives me problems on January 4,after about twenty minutes of sound crashes and not start again, to rehabilitate Iconnect it to iTunes.
Another problem is that the green light sometimes it works sometimes not, why?
    greetings

Apologies if this sounds obvious, but I want to make sure we are on the same page. In the video there are no earphones plugged into the iPod. It doesn't have an inbuilt speaker, so whatever buttons you press, if there are no earphones connected, there will not be any sound. Apart from that the behaviour in iTunes looks fairly normal and correct.
The only other help I've found online that might be relevant is this excerpt from AskDaveTaylor:
When you're playing some music, you can see visual feedback on what's happening and what state you're in:
    Press play and
solid green = you're playing music
flashing green = you're in pause mode
    Press and hold play and
    green-orange-orange-orange = you've disabled your buttons
    orange-green-green-green = you've reenabled your buttons

  • IPod Shuffle - strange problem HELP!!!!

    Hello,
few days ago my iPod shuffle suddenly stopped playing. In the first place I thought it was a battery. But after over a 8hrs of charging, restoring software etc. it looks like that: after sliding the button into one of the two play modes only the battery led lights up green, but the bigger led in the front doesn't give any sign of life.
It doesn't react to pressing Play/Pause button, once it did actually play, but for mayba a quather of second. Other time - i saw a green and orange light blinking vely dimmly for about 0.5 seconds and then nothing happened.
    What could be the problem?
    Best regards

If you wnat a powered usb port then all you need is a powered usb hub, depends where abouts you are in the world on where to purchase one
