IPOD Shuffle Volume

I am connecting the shuffle to an external stereo device using the 3.5mm connector, but the volume is set all the down. How do you adjust the volume on the unit itself without having the headphones connected (with the volume control) ?

Turn the volume UP while earphones are attached (sufficiently high that you can
hear music without putting earphones in your ear), then remove and connect patch cable... you should be able to adjust volume to your liking with the volume control
of the stereo device.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod shuffle volume limit

I have a first generation ipod and when i got itunes 7 i got a volume limit too. software is 1.1.4 for shuffle. After i set the volume limit i came back today and there was no box for it in settings, so i cant turn it off or adjust it. My ipod still does the volume limit and this is no help because when there is any other noise it's almost impossible to hear since vol limit is so low.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is not currently a feature for the iPod shuffle.
I would Send Apple Your Feedback.

  • IPod Shuffle 3rd Gen fully charged, blinks orange five times and I can't control it with the remote (I used 3 different remotes), volume is low and is iPod is unresponsive... any ideas on how to fix it?

The iPod was working fine, then after about 45 minutes of use i looked as if battery drained.
I charged it fully again (until green light) and then turned it on, green light and then orange light blinks five times...
I can't play /pause, or turn volume up or down from the remote... tried with original Apple earphones, and two Bose MIE2i (original and sports models)...
Any ideas of what can be wrong? or how can I fix it?
Already tried restoring it to factory settings.... it didn't solved the problem...

  • My ipod shuffle 2 gen don't want to make volume down.

Everything works alright but when I press button to volume down my ipod volume up instead, and
there is no way to volume it down.
What can I do with it ?

Your next and only remaining option is to connect the Shuffle to your computer and perform a restore of it via iTunes.  This process wipes all content from the iPod, resets all settings back to their defaults, and reloads a fresh copy of the iPod's software onto the device.  See here for instructions on restoring the Shuffle.
Restoring iPod shuffle to factory settings
If a restore doesn't help, it rules out the probability of it being software related, meaning it's a hardware problem.  Your only option at this point is to either take or send your iPod in for service or replacement.

    Any help is appreciated.

If you're talking about the Maximium Volume Limit:
    Setting the Maximum Volume Limit
You can set a limit for the maximum volume on iPod shuffle. You can also set a
password in iTunes to prevent this setting from being changed by someone else.
If you’ve set a volume limit on iPod shuffle, the status light blinks orange three times if
you try to increase the volume beyond the limit.
To set the maximum volume limit for iPod shuffle:
1 Set iPod shuffle to the desired maximum volume.
2 Connect iPod shuffle to your computer.
3 In iTunes, select iPod shuffle in the Source pane.
    4 Click the Settings tab.
    5 Select “Limit maximum volume.”
6 Drag the slider to the desired maximum volume.
The initial slider setting shows the volume the iPod shuffle was set to when you
selected the “Limit maximum volume” checkbox.
7 To require a password to change this setting, click the lock and enter a password.
If you set a password, you must enter it before you can change or remove the
    maximum volume limit.
Note: The volume level may vary if you use different earphones or headphones.
To remove the maximum volume limit:
1 Connect iPod shuffle to your computer.
2 In iTunes, select iPod shuffle in the Source pane.
    3 Click the Settings tab.
    4 Deselect “Limit maximum volume.”
    Enter the password, if required.
Note: If you forget the password, you can restore iPod shuffle. See “Updating and
Restoring iPod shuffle Software” on page 26 for more information.

  • Can i alter the default start volume of Ipod shuffle?

I would love the ipod shuffles i am using in a show to have a higher (maximum) starting volume. The default starting volume is pretty low.
    is this possible?
I have seen various things online that make me think it is possible on a windows machine - but i am on a macbook air.
    any ideas?

Yeah - I tried that - it didnt really help.
you can alter the volume on windows machines by doing the following  (i think) -
"On your shuffle there is a file called
    <driveletter>:\iPod_Control\Device\ExtendedSysInfoXml
open the file with notepad or a text editor search for a string:
MinVolumeLevel set the integer number to 16... that should do the trick"
is there not a wayof doing that on a mac?

I have an iPod Shuffle 3rd Generation (2G) and cannot adjust the volume up or down using the (+/-) selector on the headphones (original equipment).  It has worked in the past, so not sure if the reason is because I changed a setting on my ITunes Library web-page??  Thanks

  • Ipod shuffle 3rd gen volume control issue

I have IPod Touch and IPod Shuffle 3rd gen and I bought a new pair of headphones in the Apple store in London few months back and the headphones were totally fine when used in IPod Touch. Yesterday I put them into my IPod Shuffle and I am experiencing a problem with the volume - I can't put it up or down.
It's not the "limit volume" thing, I already tried that...
    Any suggestions..?

    Hey paralelopipak,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the headphones have a volume problem only on this iPod. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Ipod Shuffle Trouble with Volume--NOTHING WORKS!!!!!!!

Does anyone have a clue how to address the volume problems with the Ipod Shuffle??  I've tried everything suggested in the help manual to increase the volume, and nothing works.  I'm ready to throw the ipod off the terrace!!!
I welcome anyone who can assist with this problem; it's very frustrating.  Also, it's not a problem with the headphones, because I tried them on my computer, and they work perfectly!
    Thank you!

I suggest Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for system troubleshooting procedures and when doing so, follow all steps/instructions in the order provided.

  • I need small earbud earphones with a volume control for my IPod shuffle.

Can any of you tell me what company or companies make small earbud earphones with a volume control to use with my Ipod shuffle?  The standard Apple earphones are too large for my ears and after about 30 minutes of use I have to take them off.  I ordered some JLab small earbud earphones but now that they've arrived I realize they don't have a volume control.

Hey, I had the same problem when I first bought my Ipod. The issue is not with the Ipod its with iTunes, go to Preferences then Playback, change the volume on SOUND ENHANCER, I recommend the sound check but thats personal.
After you do that, connect your Ipod and go to settings uncheck maximum volume, and sync. I added memory for Ipod usage to make sure (decreases # of songs for ipod usage)
Good luck I hope this solves your problem it solved mine.

  • Problem with Controlling Volume on Ipod Shuffle 3rd Generation

I recently bought new headphones for my Ipod shuffle (3rd gen) and I can't control the volume. The + and - buttons on the headphones don't seem to work, I heard my Ipod might need to be reset? Other people have experienced this problem when connecting there headphones to the Ipod shuffle, so I am unsure if the headphones are actually the problem.  Any advice on how to reset the Ipod shuffle and/or be able to control volume?

Try restoring to factory settings. Connect to iTunes, click on your iPod under the DEVICES section, click Restore. When asked, click Set up as New iPod.
I had this same problem the other day. The Apple Store said that if a restore doesn't fix it, then their solution is to replace the iPod. They have seen this issue before but it doesn't seem to be curable by software fixes. It usually happens on older devices.

  • Latest ipod Shuffle upgrade having problems with volume!

I just upgrated to the latest software version of the ipod shuffle and now I can't change the volume on my device with out having the music being played affected causing it to break frecuently during play out. I will like to remove this newer software upgrate and just leave it as it was, when it was working all fine. Any Ideas?
    Thanks

    Excuse me for jumping in.
What's described Here should work if you have iTunes 7; I haven't tried it yet, though.
Otherwise, locate the most recent updater [2006-6-28] (they're found in ~/Applications/Utilities/iPod Software Updater.localized on my machine). Download it if necessary.
Run the updater; connect the shuffle when prompted.
    Good luck
