Ipod shuffle won't work

Somebody please help!! I can't beleive there are so many others out there with the same problem. My son is most disappointed, as am I that his xmas present that he wanted so badly is a piece of %$^#&!!!! Apple should be doing something about this NOW!! If there is anyone who has come up with a quick fix to this problem (I have tried everything) please reply!!!

Hi,
I like you had many problems getting my ipod shuffle to work properly. I finally got a very helpful apple tech guy to help me, and now it works. Here's what we did (these are instructions for windows xp machines):
1. Go to apple.com/ipod/download, and download the latest software updater 2005 - 11 - 25.
2. Once downloaded, install the software updater.
3. Restart machine, with the ipod inserted in the USB port, power setting to OFF position.
4. Once cpu is restarted, go to Start -->ipod-->ipod software updater.
5. Click on "Restore" when the ipod updater window invites you to.
6. Once finished, disconnect Ipod, and turn the power switch to one of the "on" positions (it doesn't matter which).
7. Green light should come on and turn off. Turn off power switch a second time and wait 10 seconds.
8. Insert ipod back into USB port; it should automatically start itunes, which should then offer to setup your ipod.
9. It will automatically begin downloading all songs from your itunes library onto the ipod. WHen complete, you can disconnect ipod, and hopefully the thing will work.
NB: unlike other mp3 players, you MUST use itunes to download your music onto the ipod. you cannot click and drag music using windows.
Hope this helps, and shame on apple for making it so complicated.

  • MY IPOD SHUFFLE WON'T WORK!!!!!! (2nd generation)

Last night I accidentally dropped my ipod into the toilet. I immediately took it out and dried it. I even dried the little hole for the head phones. Now I know that it did stay in the water but shouldn't it work just a little? What do I do and does my warranty cover this? Can I get this repaired for cheap?

If after trying the possible to fix the shuffle it doesn't work, you may want to contact your homeowners insurance and see if they cover such accidents. That's more likely to than an AppleCare claim. But small claims often result in increased deductables if not completely being cut off from insurance. So ask them first if it is covered. In addition, if you purchased the shuffle with a credit card, sometimes credit card companies offer their own insurance. Don't mistake a warranty for insurance. It is not. I'm not speculating as to Apple's policy here, which would be a violation of terms, I'm just stating how warranties usually work. I would not attempt to pass it off as anything else. The more people try to do that, the more our AppleCare is going to cost everyone, if not in monetary cost, in time to get iPods repaired. No one ever claimed the machine was waterproof. It is sad that such damage happens, but it does.
I think it best to consider in the future once you do get it repaired or repalced to not ever take it in the bathroom with you again, unless it is already inside some bag that has the zipper securely zipped. These accidents can happen, and do. I've heard about it happening several times on this board.
    Good luck.

  • IPod Shuffle won't work after downloading iTunes 7

    Help!
I downloaded iTunes 7 and it told me my Shuffle was corrupted (even though it worked perfectly fine in iTunes 6 five minutes before). It prompted me to "restore", which I did, only to get another error message saying that it can't be restored (error 1418). Now I think my Shuffle it totally shot (not recognized by Windows either) and I can't get it to work at all.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

it comes up momentary... then shows a message... "Updating iTunes library"... then locks up.
that is typically caused by a problem with one of your content files.
tracking down which file(s) are causing the issue can be a pain. but you could try the "Check for content files with issues" section from the following document:

  • My ipod shuffle won't charge after not being charged for a month... did the battery officially died?

my ipod shuffle won't charge after not being charged for a month... did the battery officially die?

maybe you can control the room temperature.... i try to charge iPod shuffle beside the mini fan, so heat from shuffle can blown away... or maybe, you can charge the iPod in Air Conditioned room....
i think this device have a mechanism to cut off the charging process if device temperature too hot. such a safety system so this ipod won't burn out when overcharging.
i hope it can help you...
    and trust me IT WORKS....

  • New ipod touch won't work with itunes 10.6.3 says it needs 11.1 but I cannot load that on my macbook using OSX 10.5.8 any way around this?

New ipod touch won't work with itunes 10.6.3, says it needs 11.1 or newer but I cannot load that onto my MacBook running on OSX 10.5.8 - is there anyway around this?

No. If your MacBook has an Intel processor you can update to OSX 10.6.8 and then install the latest iTunes.
A 5G iPod with iOS 7 requires that if you have a Mac you have OSX 10.6.8 or later.
    You can get 10.6.8 here:

  • Ipod Shuffle won't turn on or charge and isn't recognized by the computer

My Ipod shuffle won't charge and isn't recognized by the computer , it turned orange than stopped and won't charge or turn on since. Does anybody has a solution please ?

I have exactly the same problem with both my ipod shuffles. That suggests to me that it is a problem with the ipods rather than my PC or computer software. I'm surprised that no Apple tech has suggested a solution yet.

  • Wheel of iPod Shuffle no longer works

The wheel on my iPod shuffle no longer works (forward and reverse music, volume, etc). Music plays, but otherwise have no control. Reset device, but problem persists. Anyone have a suggestions?

    Hello khcumiskey,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Since you reset the iPod and the issue persists, the next step would be to seek service for your iPod shuffle.

My iPod camera won't work. The shutter doesn't open at all. I backed up and restored my iPod but it didn't make it work. Now I'm so mad and confused. Please help.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • Ipod shuffle won't play tracks in order

My ipod shuffle won't play tracks in order even when I have the shuffle button off. I have sync'd it on itunes to play in order but it just continues to shuffle all the tracks! Please help. Thanks

I found a post about this problem from November, it is apparently how the iPod Shuffle handles podcasts. It sorts them in REVERSE chronological order, and moves them to the top of the play list. It's unbelievable that Apple has let a problem like this persist for so long.
Here is the discussion I mentioned:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6259808&#6259808
It offers a way to partially fix the problem, but one that I find entirely unacceptable. The only lasting solution mentioned was to buy a different mp3 player, which I'll be doing as soon as I return my Shuffle and get my money back.
The sad thing is that in addition to Apple losing money on the sale of a Shuffle, they're also loosing money on songs I would be purchasing from iTunes (I got a $20 gift certificate for my b-day that I'm going to sell to buy other music that will play on a non-Apple mp3 player), and they might loose potential customers because I've been complaining about this to everybody I know!
    -edit-
Correction, I found a discussion dealing with this from 2005!

  • My iPod Shuffle won't update or restore.

My iPod Shuffle won't update or restore when I put my iPod in it says iPod Service Error or Can't Mount iPod. Can someone please help me?

The same thing happened to me, I called Apple (Is your Ipod still have the free 90 days free phone call?) they told me it was my battery. They said they think I should buy a new one. I did not. I didn't think it is really my battery. Are you connections clean? Have you tried different USB hubs? I've heard the USB's in the back tend to give off more power.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPod function won't work on iPhone 4

My iPod application won't work on the iPhone 4. I can play YouTube videos, listen to previews on iTunes, but for some reason whenever I hit the play button on a song in iTunes it doesn't start on any of my songs. I've tried the lyrics app to play music, I've tried powering off and restoring it by holding home and power down and still nothing, help!

Read in another thread a solution that worked for me. Basically, you need to delete the music from the phone and re-copy from iTunes with 2 syncs. In the music tab, uncheck the boxes in the playlist, artist and genre option, removing all music from the phone, then sync. Then, re-check the desired music to copy back to the phone and sync. Music should play now from the phone.
I echo the sentiment of another poster that iOS4 really is a disaster. Problem like this should have been solved before release.

According to this article, that means the Shuffle's buttons are disabled.

  • Power button on ipod touch won't work?

The Power button on my ipod touch won't work at all, any suggestions?

Okay it says here https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do that your warranty has expired, my recomendation is to either clean it out with a needle, or just keep pushing it hoping it will un-stick.
    hope this helped

  • My iPod Shuffle won't read the name of playlists or songs

I got my first iPod shuffle 4GB... everything's working fine but just when I click and hold the centre button it won't tell me the names of the song... or when I try to change playlists it will tell me "playlist 1... playlist 2... playlist 3" instead of the names of the playlists. Though I can see the names in my iTune.
Can anyone help me...? Thanks a lot.. I was actually really looking forward to this name-reading function..
    Cheers

Thank you so much - yes it will read the names of the songs and playlist now! Thanks a lot for your help, without your answer i probably won't be able to figure it out myself. Cheers!

  • New iPod shuffle won't stay on, charge, and not recognized by computer

My daughter won a new iPod Shuffle that as far as we know has never been opened/used till today.  We have iTunes downloaded and working on our computer.  But when plugging in iPod via provided USB cable, the computer (and I've tried two different ones) will not recognize anything is plugged in.  Also, I don't even think the iPod is working at all.  The amber light only comes on for one second when turned on/plugged in, then goes off.  I know the USB ports I've tried to use it with are adequate (i.e. fast/powerful enough) because they are the main USB ports of the computers (no hubs or dual ports) and they work with other Apple products just fine (including other iPods), so that can't be the problem.  Help?!  She's so disappointed.
