IPod shuts down when connected to iTunes

My fully charged iPod shuts down within 1 minute of connecting to iTunes. iTunes recognizes/reads the iPod until the iPod shuts down. I considered the battery but the iPod will play about 6 hours on a charge. This happened with the old iTunes software and also after I installed the new 7.0.2 yesterday.

Is the software on the iPod up to date too?
Have you tried connecting via a different USB port?
Also, try resetting the iPod while it is connected to the computer...

Shuts down when connected to itunes

I was given an iPod and I think there's something fishy about it. First of all, it looks like an iPod Classic. It says 80GB on the back metal casing (the front is white), but in the setting it says it has 159GB available, but the capacity id s 903MB. When I connect it to iTunes, it says "DO NOT DISCONNECT" and shows up that it's connected for about 1-2 seconds, then the whole iPod shuts down and restarts itself. Is there anything I can do to fix this or is this a worthless piece of junk at this point?

I understand you are having issues when connecting your iPod to iTunes. Lets see if the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant resolves this:

Reset
To reset your iPod:
1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip:
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
If the above does not help, please try the remaining 4 steps.

IPod shuts down when connected

We have an iPod with missing a System Folder. It's stuck in a loop, showing the folder with the exclamation point, and then showing the Apple logo.
Here's the catch:
When I try and connect the iPod to the MacBook (running 10.4.10 and iTunes 7.3) it shuts off during any attempt to reinstall or reformat or anything. (Again, it'll stay on if it's not plugged in.)
I've attempted Disk Mode and...well...I am at a loss as to what else to try.

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same problem.

MBP shuts down when connecting to power

Since a week or two, my MacBookPro from early 2011 shuts down when connecting the magsafe to power. Also when starting up again it will start up fine and fast from battery, but I need to hold the power button for several seconds when connected to power.
Another problem I had earlier as well is CPU (kernel task) of over 90%, which I now see clearly, only occurs when connected to power. I used to solve this problem by putting the MBP to sleep, but now, when put to sleep, it will shut down.
When on battery, I have no CPU problem and can put machine to sleep without a problem.
I recently started uploading everything to dropbox, and activate caffeine to make sure it will keep uploading. My computer will run for days on power combined with caffeine, but is as slow as **** because of a >90% CPU.
The battery has had a notification for maybe a year, that it needed service, so today I finally bought and installed a new battery, but the problem is not solved. Is this software or could it be my magsafe adapter? Thanks for you help.

It sounds like a problem with the power management inside your MBP. I suggest you call Apple to make an appointment at your local Apple store for them to check it out for you.

Computer shuts down when I open itunes Store

Computer shuts down when I open itunes Store. I don't know why or how to fix it.. It used to work, now it doesn't. I haven't done anything differently. I tried to 'repair' it in the add/delete programs.

Some more info.................I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime. No fix. I can access the store on my other desktop computer which I also updtated to the newest version, so I think it's some setting in my laptop. As I said, it works great until I click on "iTunes Store" then it shuts the whole program down.

Laptop shuts down when connecting Nano...

When I connect my Nano to my laptop running XP, the laptop shuts down and goes dormant for ten-fifteen minutes afterwards. Seems like the iPod is sending a charge to the laptop. Any suggestions or advice? Please help - annoying.

X200 hangs during restart or shut down when connected to ultrabase

My X200 hangs during a Windows restart or shut down when I'm connected to my ultrabase. The laptop appears to go through most of the processes to restart/shut down but eventually hangs at a blue screen with unmoveable cursor (note, not a Windows BSOD). I'm forced to perform a hard shut down to turn off the laptop.
This hang at restart/shut down only occurs when I'm connected to the ultrabase.

Itunes shuts down when connecting Ipod HELP

Recently when I connect my Ipod to my Itunes a windows error message appears and shuts down itunes for me. The message reads that Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. I am unable to transfer any music, play songs off my ipod, or delete songs off my ipod. I have reinstalled Itunes several times. All of my songs are stored on my IPOD only so reseting would erase all of them. PLEASE HELP!!!

Yes this used to happen to me also. Heres how to fix it. If this event just started happening after you have downloaded new music, I know how to fix it. Sort your iTunes by DATE ADDED. Then start clicking on the songs or videos, etc. in order from top down. When you click on a certain one(s) and iTunes shuts down, this is what you do:
1. Find the file(s) on your computer by doing a computer search from the start menu.
2. When you locate the file(s), click on it or them and send them into your recycle bin or trash for mac users.
3. Then open iTunes.
4. Locate the file(s).
5. They should have a little ! next to them.
6. When you click on them, iTunes won't shut down.
7. Just right click on the file(s) and delete them again, this time from iTunes.
8. Reset your iPod.
9. Connect it.
10. Your problem is solved!

My ipod shuts down when I connect it to the computer.

My ipod works perfectly fine. But when I connect it to my computer it just shuts down. Sometimes it says low battery. And sometimes it just shuts right off. I tried to reset it, but that doesn't help. And my computer won't recognize it because the power won't come on when its connected. Any suggestions??

If you put it into disk mode and connect it to your computer can you see it in Device Manager or My Computer?
