Ipod skips purchased songs

my ipod keeps skipping the songs i purchased on itunes, i've tried everthing but it wont work, help

I had no such problems until i received a replacement ipod for mine that developed a fault its absolutely rediculous as this keeps happening even after resetting and de authorising. Gradually this happened more and more regularly SO I HAVE GIVEN UP USING THE IPOD NOW.
Interestingly if you have one that is in warranty and bought in the uk i would return it as it is clearly not fit for the purpose it was purchased as it is marketed with itunes. Incidentaly you will probably get no help from apple.

  • My iPod skips certain songs- ive tried the 5 r's and i have iTunes 8

I woke up this morning and started listing to my iPod and found that it skips certain songs. about 150 (more or less) of the 500 that i have downloaded. I just dont know what's wrong with it. The songs play fine on my iTunes but as soon as I try to listen to it on my nano it skips to the next song and acts like the song doesnt excist.
I have tried the five r's, I have the most updated model of iTunes (unless im mistaken and there is an iTunes 9).
I reset all of the settings both on my ipod and on the computer- which did nothing.
I read the manuals and looked at the error reports but there is nothing that explains this at all. that I've found...
whats weird is that the songs that are being skipped were all purchased from the iTunes store. I've read a few posts about simialar occurances but nothing exactly like this. I've had my iPod for three years (if that helps)

  • Frustration setting in!  G4 iPod skips purchased music (tried reset, etc.)

    Hi All -
I've been a Mac guy since System 7. I got the iPod knowing that it would "just work" like all things Mac. I've purchased music through iTunes because it's the right thing to do, but I'm beginning to get frustrated with a problem I'm having playing purchased music. I do not want to have to update my iPod to correct the problem everytime it occurs (I've spent a lot of time trying to fix the problem), I won't purchase a new iPod to fix it (all other functions work great), and I'm considering different sources for online music since there doesn't seem to be a problem with other sources (friends think I'm crazy for paying as it is). PLEASE HELP! Someone knows the answer. Here's your chance to prove yourself a god!
I seem to have a common problem. My G4 (20G) iPod will skip purchased (iTunes) music after the iPod turns off. When it restarts (Apple displays on the screen), all purchased music skips. The titles are displayed, but it runs through all purchased titles without playing.
I've tried the common fixes - reset the iPod, authorized and de-authorized the computer on iTunes, re-installed the library and all other methods provided in discussions and support. Since the titles are displayed and occurs only after the iPod restarts, I'm assuming that there is a problem with permissions that should have been corrected with the iPod reset or authorize/reinstall solutions. Nothing is helping. Just to state the obvious, all software is up to date.
Can some kind person provide a fix? It seems to be happening to a lot of folks, but I can't seem to find anything that helps.
    Thanks!

I had the problem where my purchased songs would be skipped over when I attempted to play them on my iPod, described perfectly in article 303854 "iPod does not play content purchased from the iTunes Store." However, after following all the steps in that article the problem still happened, until...
I spoke with an iPod support representative who knew that in some cases the normal iPod Restore steps don't work unless the iPod is put in "Disk Mode" first. We put my iPod in Disk Mode then performed the Restore steps, and the problem went away--purchased songs played normally.
For instructions to put an iPod in disk mode, see article 93651 "Putting iPod into Disk Mode":
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
So, if your purchased songs are skipped over and if the steps in article 303854 don't solve your problem, consider putting your iPod in Disk Mode first then performing the Restore steps again.
    Good luck.

  • In Playlist, iPod skips entire Song

I used in iPod hack to change the Skin on my iPod with my PC, and I Restored it to get rid of it, now half my songs just SKIP Entirely,
*I DO NOT mean that they Skip during the song*, I Put on my playlist with several songs in it, and it skips to the only song that works, and *No other songs play*.
MANY points to whoever solves this,
    -Connor

I signed up to find out the answer to the same question. I got the exact same problem. 3 or 4 songs of a given purchased album will play, the others are just skipped as if they weren't there...though I see the album and title for a split second before the ipod finds the song that it can play.

  • NEW "Ipod skipping certain songs" Post... Little help Apple!!!

I've been putting this off for a while, but I finally lost it the other night and almost threw my ipod out the window... upon further investigation I found a post on page 2 with 4500 views about this issue with still no resolution. My new ipod 80G skips certain songs at the beggining, middle, end, and probably without me even knowing. At first I thought this was a CD problem, but all the songs play fine from my Itunes library, then I bought $50 worth of songs (gift certificate, apple WILL NOT see any of my $$$ until this is fixed) and about half of my newly purchased songs played the whole way through (but they do in itunes). Reset 3 times, software update yes, different USB port yes, in fact I have done everything but restore because I dont want to put up with backing up (again) and "re-synching" 8,000 songs. I have synched about 12 times since with no progress what so ever. Whats the Deal???????????
Is there an answer to this problem out there? There are too many of us suffering from this for it to be ignored. It really ***** on live albums (which account for 50% of my library) and its irresponsible and downright unacceptable for it to be happening on my purchased songs. Thanks in adavance for your help and PLEASE feel free to voice your aggrivation here. Lets not only get 4500 views, but 4500 complaints!!

No, the backlight-always-on thing does not work.
I believe the problem is in disk management. I use DiskWarrior to graph my drive where I store my music, and it shows me that I have less than 1% of files out of order (which I assume means fragmented). The iPod, however, tends to have more fragmentation. When I optimize the drive and restore the iPod, the problem of skipping goes away with some songs. I've tracked this by putting the broken songs into a playlist. At one point, I optimized my music drive and restored the iPod and then played through the playlist of broken songs. Three of 31 songs were still broken, just as before. And I continue to encounter broken songs as I continue to listen to my entire collection -- a months-long process.
My old iPod (2nd generation) never had this problem, but it died after 5.5 years at the end of 2008. It would be nice if Apple would look at the software/firmware on the iPod Classic and fix the bug.
I plan to identify all of my broken songs and encode new copies of them, but I suspect that even if I always optimize my music storage drive before adding new music (I can never get the fragmentation down to 0%), I'll still have at least a few songs that will fail to play all of the way through the end unless Apple fixes the problem.

  • Ipod skips entire song

so, i charged my ipod and downloaded a couple songs and sync'd them to my ipod. well, the next time i started my ipod, i would listen to one song and then as it went to the next, it would skip four or five or even more songs, then play the sixth song. i have never had any problems with my ipod before this and i have never had to restore it before. i am afraid to restore and lose music or something like that. any advice?
thanks in advance, i appreciate it all!

  • Mini skips purchased songs

My iPod mini skips over all but eight of my 210 purchased songs. I can usually reset it by plugging it back in to my PC. That has always worked in the past. However, this time around, it worked until I charged it and then started skipping again. I've tried to reset by holding down the Menu and Select buttons, and that doesn't work. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  • IPod skipping iTMS songs - but only one account

    Hi,
I'm not sure what my iPod is exactly. It's a 40GB mono screen iPod, about five years old. I thought that made it a 'classic' but perhaps not... anyway.
Since I updated iTunes last, the update deauthorised my accounts on my MacBook. One of these was my current account and I've got that up and running again fine. The second one was an old account from when I was on AOL which the nice Apple people kindly helped me convert into an Apple ID account and that, too, is now running again on my MacBook.
The weird thing is that that account won't play on my iPod. It just skips through all those songs.
It will however play them if I connect my iPod to my MacBook and play through the MacBook speakers. I've tried authorising it but it says my accounts are already authorised and anyway, I don't think that's quite how you do it on an iPod.
I'm sure it's something fairly simple but it's getting frustrating now.
I have tried doing a hard reset on the iPod, holding down Menu and the centre button but it still skips through songs on this one account.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Charley x

Roaming: Heck! I think you are right. I'm not at home right now to check so I think I can check on that only through itunes. But, as I now recall, this happened to me before. These are all Christmas songs and I set them to skip after Christmas so "by artist" they are not included. The 158 are tracks added since last year and I forgot to set. Ugh!
Thanks for the tip and I'll update tonight once I confirm.

  • Ipod skips over songs

my ipod mini skips over songs when i select them to play. This doesnt happen all the time but it seems to happen about have way threw the battery life. I also have to press the selecdt button to turnn it on or else it wont come on.
    What should i do?

I had this problem with my ipod and it was annoying. I can help. Go to your I-Tunes and go to your ipod. Next click the ADVANCED button from your toollbar. The click de-authorize ipod then you will have to go through a bunch of steps like entering your password. Then after it is all done eject your ipod (hint:after you've clicked de-authorize/authorize ipod a window will pop up and you will have two choices i forget them but click the second one). After you are done your ipod will be fixed and ready to go! Its an annoying but fixable problem. Enjoy your ipod.

  • My iPod skips during songs and is very delayed. I did the restore option multiple times but my problem persists. Help!

I have an iPod touch 2nd generation and therefore I can not download the new software. I did the restore option multiple times and my iPod still skips in the middle of songs, suddenly takes me out of a playlist, and is extrememly delayed. Anyway I could fix this?

If you already restored to factory defaults/new iPod then it appears you have a hardware problem. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and hear what they have to say.

  • IPod skips mid-song

I have had this problem with just about every iPod I have had (5gb gen.2, 15gb gen.3, 40gb gen.4 and now 60gb gen.5). I will be listening to music and half way through a song it will jump to the next song ~ a bit annoying. Anyone else have this probelm and know why?

    Hi Deb,
There seems to be a problem with the 5th Gen Ipod with skipping songs.
    I am experiencing it.
Dont worry about the Dhead that wrote earlier, he does not know what he is talking about.
I have 2 x 5th Gen Ipods and both are doing it.
While my 2 x 4th 40GB Ipods are working fine! both are using the same iTunes and same song files, so it cant be the song files nor itunes otherwise I would experience it with my 40GB 4th Gen's.
Apple needs to have this resolved!
Hopefully they will bring out a update shortly, til then we have to wait.
Ps - The 2 x 5th Gens were sent back and replaced and the replacements are doing it so it must be a fault with ALL 5th Gens

  • IPod's purchased songs won't play.

I already lost 1 song & 12 others I purchased don't play. On iTunes, an exclamation mark icon appears next to them because I pressed B on my keyboard. How do I fix my problem?

An in front of songs means iTunes can no longer locate the source file. So first question is, did you manually, outside of iTunes, move some files around?
I don't see how pressing a B would do anything except jump to the first track that (whatever column you sort by) starts with the letter B. Were you in the general library area when you pressed B or where you in some sort of window like Get Info, Podcasts, iTMS, etc.?

  • IPod Skipping Purchased Music Fixed!....Sort of

See my post over at http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=1651307#post1651307
Hopefully this will help others. Any thoughts?

Burning all my purchased music onto CDs then reuploading it onto iTunes is not a valid fix.
I'm still having the intermittent playing problem. This problem was happening before I updated to iTunes 5 and before I installed the most recent (Sept. 6) update for iPod.
What's going on? I'm not the only one having this problem yet there seems to be no response from Apple as to how to fix it.

  • Just bought an ipod. cant purchase songs on the ipod because its asking for secruity questions i have never set up.

    Ipod touch

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.
