IPod Sleep Disorder

Ok, I have a 8 gig iPod touch. It is still under its 90 day warranty. I have a problem where not only dose it not charge, but when it is not connected to a dock or cable it still thinks its charging. As well as it automatically restarts when I turn it off because it thinks its plugged in! This iPod has had many problems and I have been able to fix them with help from Apple's online guides. This, However, is not in any guide I have found. I can no longer try anything you guys suggest to fix it that involves a computer because it dose not charge to connect to the computer at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Clayton Yocom

The only thing you can do without connecting to iTunes is a reset (press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears).
If that does not correct the problem, I'd suggest you contact AppleCare.
FYI, you have a *one year* warranty, not 90 days. The 90 days is the period for free phone support (one incident) - that's for non-hardware issues. You can still call them for hardware issues, or sumbit a service request online:
http://www.apple.com/support/service/depot/
Hope this helps...

  • Sleep Disorder (Energy Saver Prefs)

I tried in the hardware section about this, maybe I can get some help here:
My new Intel iMac seems to have a sleeping disorder. Does anyone out there have the Information Technology equivalent of Ambien CR?
I have my Energy Saver Preferences set to 22 minutes to put the system sleep and 15 minute to put the display to sleep. It doesn't seem to work.
Also, if I just put my iMac to sleep manually using the menu command in the Finder, it will go to sleep initially, but when I come back a few hours later it is on -- not sleeping. Am I going to have to shut this thing down whenever I'm not using it?
    1) I have checked the box "Put the hard drive to sleep whenever possible" in the the Sleep Pane of the Energy Saver System Preferences
    2) In the Options Pane of the Energy Saver System Preferences under Schedule there are NO active settings to start/wake my iMac.
    3) I have disconnected my external hard drives and my Wacom tablet to see if that made any difference. It did not. the only other peripheral is my Apple USB Modem, which I need to connect. I am not connected when I attempt to put the system to sleep
I have both put the computer to sleep and come back several hours later to see that it woke up. On another occasion I was reading on the sofa in the same room with the iMac and saw it wake up. When I saw it wake up there was no noticeably external noise or vibration in the house which might have caused it to wake up. It just woke up.
What is the point of even having an Energy Saver Preference if it doesn't work?
Does anyone have any more suggestions for troubleshooting this?

    Hi, Wet Baloney.
    1. Trash all the energy saver preferences:1. Quit System Preferences if it is open.
    2. Open the Computer > Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration folder.
    3. Trash the following two files therein:• com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    • com.apple.AutoWake.plist
You may be prompted for your Admin password when you trash these files.
Note that the second file is only extant if you have used the Schedule option to schedule startup, sleep, or shutdown.
    4. Empty the Trash.
    5. Launch System Preferences and reset the Energy Saver preferences accordingly.2. re: Modem:• In the Options tab of Energy Saver preferences, if "Wake when modem detects a ring" is selected (checked) deselect (uncheck) this option.
    • In the Print & Fax Preferences > Faxing tab, deselect "Receive faxes on this computer" if selected. With those options selected, I've seen my sleeping Macs wake up if a phone line was connected to the computer and a call came in on that line.
    Good luck!

  • 24" iMac Sleep disorder

My 24" won't sleep on it's own, I think it has to do with the network connection but it's hard to isolate what is causing it. It only seems to sleep on it's own after rebooting or after I enable then disable airport. This machine on a wired LAN so I don't use airport, I have disabled "wake for ethernet" with no luck . The problem first became noticable after the 10.4.8 Update.
I noticed others had similar problems any solutions yet?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Josh,
Go back into system preferences > energy saver and check to make sure your settings are where you want them. Also repair permissions through disk utility > Macintosh HD
Lastly, I would go ahead and reset the SMC: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446 - the SMC deals with some power issues including wake and sleep cycles...
as a last resort you can always run the combo update: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1048comboupdateintel.html - this is the latest version and it may solve your problems...

  • Ipod Sleeping Issue

My 5G ipod (video) doesn't sleep. ever. if i hold the pause button, it turns off the screen backlight, which immediately returns when i let go. If i select "sleep" from the main menu, nothing happens. anyone else have this problem? anyone know how to fix it? or do i need to have my ipod serviced?
    Thanx,
    brian

I realize what I am trying to do (my iPod used to sleep effortlessly up until last wednesday), and it's not doing it at all now. Normally an iPod goes to sleep after a few minutes unused, and deep sleep at most 36 hours later. Mine leaves itself on all day (hold switch is on, so no controls are activated). this can drain the battery before i get home from school (7:00-2:15). i'm pretty upset about it, and forget about video.

Besides making sure the hold switch is off etc... has it worked before? If so, did you have it plugged in usb and headphones? Have you changed what is plugged in? If it worked and you changed nothing then try a simple reset first..then go to those 5 R's

  • Ipod Sleep/Wake Up Button

My 4th generation 64 GB ipod does not completely shut down as it did before as all I have to do is tap the sleep button and it comes on even though I use the slider to shut down. This sometimes causes a dead battery when it is accidentally touched when not in use. The user guide says the button needs to be held down for a couple of seconds to turn on but that is not the case. However, I do have to hold it down for a couple of seconds to shut it off. I've tried to reach Apple support but my coverage is expired. I was hoping for a software patch to correct the problem. All advice is appreciated.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My ipod sleep/wake buttons won't work..stuck?!

the sleep/wake button on my ipod is not working andits stuck. It's like its been pressed down there and is stuck inside and its pressed in so much  its flat on the top of the ipod:(...tried pulling it out..not worked...cant take ring apple as warranty has expired..could i still take it to the genius bar..could they help me or do i have to have a valid warranty or can i still go in even if its expired? i pressed the button and then it just got stuck..any help or advice greatly appreciated

So the iPod only powers on when connected to an external power source such as a USB port on your PC or Mac or when connected to a wall charger?  If so, that is a very good indication that your iPod's battery is shot and in need of replacement.
Apple can swap it out for a flat fee or you can send it to a third party repair service for a bit less.

  • Missing the iPod "Sleep" Functionality

So on my iPod 5G, I have the ability to set a sleep timer in preset increments. I used this a lot while traveling. I went to look for it on the iPod on my iPhone, and could not find anything similar.
    1) Does this exist?
    2) If not, what's the link for a feature request?

    Hi,
In the Clock app that comes with the iPhone is a timer section. One of the choices is to Sleep iPod.

  • Ipod sleep/wake problem

    Hi There
i bought an2nd gen ipod second hand the lcd was cracked so opened it up to fix it done that then found out the sleep/wake button did not work so bought a new button flex but still did not work.
So i had a good look around and found a split on the wifi flex the bit that connects to the sleep flex so i have replaced the wifi flex to and it charges and starts up fine but the sleep/wake button still does not work.
So could it be any thing else?
    thanks

Most likely the problem is with your software. Just turn it on and restore it through iTunes if you haven't done so already. If that doesn't work, all I can say is to wait until the next version of 2.x.x comes out and see if problems persist. If they do, then you should probably call Apple and let them know.

  • Ipod sleep mode, wake up and not starting where I left it

I have a 4th generation with click wheel. I use it mosly for audiobooks and sometimes when I start them up in the middle of the book (having listend to them up to that point) and insted of starting at that point it will start at the next track. Is this common with files over a certain size or length?

See: About Sleep, Deep Sleep, and Sleep Timer
When you 'wake' the iPod up from 'Deep Sleep' it will reset the playlist song sequence. Same if you 'exit' a playlist. This also pertains to audiobooks.

  • Video IPOD Sleep Mode

I can't get my IPOD into sleep mode. I just started having this problem about 5 minutes ago. It plays just fine and all other functions are working 100% perfect; however, I always put it into sleep mode once I'm done listening to it and then slide the hold switch and for ome reason, when I press the >II button on the bottom, it's not doing anything. The music just keeps playing. Any suggestions?

    Hi Lumax1150,
Have you tried resetting your iPod? To reset an iPod:
First, toggle your iPod's "Hold" switch back and forth a couple of times (leave it on the white side of the switch, which is the Off position).
Then, press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for 5-10 seconds.
You might need to try this several times. For more effect, try connecting your iPod to a power source while you reset it.
You can try this technique as well, which can help with iPods that are unresponsive or won't successfully turn off:
1 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
2 - Now begin to rapidly toggle the "Hold" switch back and forth while your iPod is connected.
3 - After you've done that for a little while (for perhaps 15-20 seconds), eject the iPod if needed, then disconnect it from your computer.
Also, if that doesn't really help with your case, you might need to let your iPod's battery fully drian down.
Then, when your iPod has finally reached the "Low Battery" screen, connect it to a power source for about 4 hours and let it recharge.
Finally, you can also try restoring your iPod to factory settings. This deletes all of the contents off of your iPod, but may solve this kind of issue.

  • IPod + sleep = loud fan?

Hoping to get a solution to this...I know the stock answer will involve my PCI-e USB card.
Yes, I have a PCI-e 5 port USB 2.0 card installed on my G5 Quad. How did you guess? It works like a charm, mostly.
The rub is, if I have an iPod connected, whether it's my 30GB video, my Nano, or my 2G Shuffle, and the computer wants to sleep, the screen goes dark, the fans crank up to full blast (LOUD) and the keyboard/mouse become unresponsive. The only way out is a reboot via the power button.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    G5 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I've learned to live with putting only certain devices on my Sunix USB 2 PCI-E card now, and the Mac sleeps as per normal again.
The 'engrish' response I got from Sunix was that they blamed the attached devices, not the lack of a power management firmware or driver for the Mac. Sigh...
The devices I have that sleep fine on a Sunix USB port are:
    1. Logitech MX-1000 mouse
    2. Yamaha USB speakers
    3. Logitech USB headset.
The following were definitely 'no go', despite working normally on the Sunix card in other respects:
    1. External DVD burner (a generic with an NEC mechanism in my case)
    2. Canon MP760 multifunction device (printer/copier/scanner).
    3. Any other mounted storage device (USB keys, iPods, digital cameras).

  • IPod sleeping a lot

    Hi everyone,
Just got a new 5th gen 30gb iPod for Christmas, and generally it's been awesome. This is my third iPod, so I feel like I definitely know my way around it, but it seems like this one goes into 'sleep' mode way more often than my 3rd or 4th gen iPods ever did. They generally would go to sleep after something like 12 hours without being used. This new 5th gen goes to sleep after just a few hours of sitting unused. Granted, it also seems to wake up much faster than either of the other older ones ever did, with the apple logo startup screen appearing for just a few seconds. Just curious if this is par for the course for 5th gen iPods, or if there's something unusual going on here. Thanks.
