Ipod Sleep/Wake Up Button

My 4th generation 64 GB ipod does not completely shut down as it did before as all I have to do is tap the sleep button and it comes on even though I use the slider to shut down. This sometimes causes a dead battery when it is accidentally touched when not in use. The user guide says the button needs to be held down for a couple of seconds to turn on but that is not the case. However, I do have to hold it down for a couple of seconds to shut it off. I've tried to reach Apple support but my coverage is expired. I was hoping for a software patch to correct the problem. All advice is appreciated.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • My ipod sleep/wake buttons won't work..stuck?!

the sleep/wake button on my ipod is not working andits stuck. It's like its been pressed down there and is stuck inside and its pressed in so much  its flat on the top of the ipod:(...tried pulling it out..not worked...cant take ring apple as warranty has expired..could i still take it to the genius bar..could they help me or do i have to have a valid warranty or can i still go in even if its expired? i pressed the button and then it just got stuck..any help or advice greatly appreciated

So the iPod only powers on when connected to an external power source such as a USB port on your PC or Mac or when connected to a wall charger?  If so, that is a very good indication that your iPod's battery is shot and in need of replacement.
Apple can swap it out for a flat fee or you can send it to a third party repair service for a bit less.

  • Ipod sleep/wake problem

    Hi There
i bought an2nd gen ipod second hand the lcd was cracked so opened it up to fix it done that then found out the sleep/wake button did not work so bought a new button flex but still did not work.
So i had a good look around and found a split on the wifi flex the bit that connects to the sleep flex so i have replaced the wifi flex to and it charges and starts up fine but the sleep/wake button still does not work.
So could it be any thing else?
    thanks

Most likely the problem is with your software. Just turn it on and restore it through iTunes if you haven't done so already. If that doesn't work, all I can say is to wait until the next version of 2.x.x comes out and see if problems persist. If they do, then you should probably call Apple and let them know.

  • Ipod touch, how do i add sleep/wake buttons

I have an ipod touch 2nd gen. The Sleep/wake & volume buttons are unresponsive.
Is it possible to add virtual sleep/wake buttons and volume buttons to my home screen?
    Thank you

No. Assistive oud was first introduced in either iOS 5 or 6 but your 2G can only go to 4.2.1

  • My iPad Sleep/Wake button not working after upgrading to IOS 4.2.1

Since I uploading the OS system onto my iPad 3G, the Sleep/Wake button is inoperate. When I click this button, my iPad will not turn on (I press the Home button to activate my iPad). When my iPad is on and I press the Sleep/Wake button nothing happens.
I restored my iPad on iTunes which did not solve the issue. I have search this forum for any solutions and I have reviewed the iPad User to see if I miss something when I activated the update OS on my iPad.
Any other iPad users experiencing this issu? All recommendations is greatly appreciated.

Sorry, but I can't tell from your writeup how it is that you're actually using those controls. Some basic points:
    A. Merely pressing the Sleep/Wake (SW) button doesn't turn the machine on if it's off. Instead, you press & hold it until the white Apple logo appears.
    B. If you press Home and the machine comes to life, then it was not off, powered down. It was sleeping, or idle.
    C. When on, pressing/clicking SW should put the iPad to sleep.
If you can't put it to sleep by pressing SW, and can't shut it down by pressing & holding SW until the red slider appears, then you have some sort of a fault involving that switch itself and you're probably looking at a hardware replacement. Follow instructions in your User's Guide to start that process.

  • Sleep/wake button broken but moved country

my sleep/wake button doesn't work anymore and my phone is eligible for the recall with the sleep/wake buttons not working, but my problem is that i have moved to Australia and the phone was originally purchased in the UK, does any one know how i can go about getting it fixed as it will run out of warranty soon and the apple store wouldn't touch it.

Note that you can mimic the Sleep/Wake button by using AssistiveTouch until you can get the hardware issue fixed.
Enabling AssistiveTouch floats a virtual button on-screen which can mimic all hardware buttons on the device:
    Settings>General>Accessibility>AssistiveTouch: turn ON
*Note* If you power off the device using the AssistiveTouch panel (tap the on-screen AssistiveTouch button, Device>Lock Screen (tap and hold to power off)), you will NOT be able to power on the device if your Sleep/Wake (power) button is not functioning. You will need to connect the powered off device either to a PC's USB port or an external charger to power the device back on.

  • Ipad2 sleep/wake button

Anyone having issues using the sleep/wake/power button? I have tried to power totally off by holding down the button but to no avail. It has no problem going to sleep but can not power down.

    Hi,
You may have an app running you aren't aware of. Try force quitting the app.
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until a red slider appears, then press and hold the Home button until the app quits.
If it's not an app, try restoring your iPad, help here.

  • My daughter tried to open a game on her Ipod touch and the screen went white and I can't get it to do ANYTHING...I've tried holding the sleep/wake button and it does NOTHING, still only a white screen.

My daughter tried to play the My Horse game on her Ipod touch that she got for Christmas and when she opened the game it said something about sending "push notifications" and gave the choice of "don't allow" or "ok"...we chose "don't allow". After that the screen went white and now we cannot get the Ipod touch to respond to anything. I tried holding the sleep/wake button to try to restart it and it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions to get this device working again???

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If that doesn't work, try a Restore:
From iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad.
There's more that you can do.  Post back if none of the above solves the problem.
By the way, I always allow "push."  That allows the app developer to "push" information to your device rather than waiting for you to ask for it.  However, "don't allow" shouldn't cause the problem that you're experiencing.

    Hello all,
I have a 14.88G iPod Nano that I currently use as my primary watch. A week or so ago I started to experience a blank white screen when I press the "sleep/wake" button instead of the watch face (I have it set to wake from sleep to display the clock). When I hard reset it, it will come back fine and the screen will respond and work as normal, as soon as I manually put it to sleep by pressing the "sleep/wake" button and then try to wake it the same thing happens and I have a blank white screen that doesn't respond to touch gestures or anything.
What I have tried so far to no avail:
Numerous hard restarts (holding the "sleep/wake" button with the volume - button).
Tried this: iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
Changed the watch face to display.
Recharged the device overnight (without full discharge).
Since none of this works I'm out of ideas. Eventhough I have a 6G Nano it should no longer be under warranty since I was sent it as a replacement for a different (older) product.
Any ideas? Is this a known problem? Thanks in advance for any insight any of you could provide. Also, what time is it??
    Regards,

    Hey,
I have the exact same problem as you have described. I also used my ipod as a watch but starting from today, whenever I unlock it the screen turns white until a reset is done. Even a factory reset through itunes didn't fix it.
    Have you found any solution?
    Bah, this is annoying.

  • HT4354 My sleep/wake button suddenly stopped working. Is this a common occurance in ipod nano's 6th generation?

Recently I was listening to my music, and when I went to change to a different song, I wasn't able to wake my ipod with the sleep/wake button. It's like it's not even there anymore. And when I shake my ipod I hear this rattling sound, which i'm pretty sure means that it's broken. But why is this happening, it's happened to a couple of my friends ipods, and I haven't even had mine a year. Is there anyway that I can fix this?

I had exactly the same problem. I took it to the Apple Store and they peered up inside and said I had "obviously used some corrosive liquid" on it, so the problem was not covered by the warranty. I have no idea what "corrosive liquid" it could have been--I am very careful with my iPod, keeping it in a case, etc. The only thing I could think of was sweat from the gym, but they said that wouldn't do it. So they basically gave me a replacement one but charged me $150! I have been extra careful with the replacement one, but after 2 weeks, it is having exactly the same problem.
I just did a hard reset (held down the Sleep/Wake button and Home button simultaneously until the Apple Logo appears. Now it kinda works sometimes. Sometimes I have to push the button multiple times before it goes to sleep.
This is extremely frustrating as I am very careful in handling it. Makes me think there is some other problem with it, or these things are just so fragile they can't take the wear and tear of normal use.

  • My iPod touch's sleep wake button isn't working.  How do i fix it?

One day, my iPod touch's sleep wake button stopped working. Now i cannot lock it or turn it off or on. I already tried every step in the troubleshooting and the problem was not resolved. I did take it with me to work out that day. Could it have water damage from my sweat? The main problem is, I am flying on a plane and cannot take it with me unless it is turned off. What should I do?

Take a flashlight and look in the earphone jack. If you can see a full or half pink or red circle, then the submersion indicator has been triggered. You're not covered by your warranty if this is the case.
I'd recommend sending it to Apple.
In the meantime, run your iPod flat so it is off on the plane. Take your charger with you, and when you're off the plane, charge it again. In the meantime, set it to 1 minute autolock, and use the home button to unlock it instead.
