IPod Slows Computer Usage to a Crawl

I've just recently been having problems and decided to refresh the iPod and update the firmware. I suspect this is where the problem is because when I start the updater program, it shows a picture of the U2 model, but that could be coincidence.
I can't get Anapod Explorer to mount my iPod, although Windows does see it, I can't get to it in explorer and I can't even open iTunes when the iPod is connected to my computer. I can't safely remove it either because the removal times out.
When my iPod is connected and on, I hear a clicking sound every 10 seconds or so. I can get through occasionally, but other times I get the folder and exclamation point warning.
First, I'd like to try to see if I can change my updater's iPod selection manually and see if that's the problem. If that's not it, I'm open to suggestions.

I feared this from what you said (the clicking noise) in your first post on this thread, it sounds like the HDD is failing/has failed. Sorry, I don't think there is much that can be done.
It is probably too late for this, but if you have anything on the iPod that is not on the HDD it might be worth trying to pull a copy off.
You could try (as a last resort) using disk manager to delete and recreate the partition on the iPod HDD and then format it (FAT32, not NTFS) - or try a restore using the Updater, but I think you will be flogging a dead horse, but I hope I'm proved wrong on this for your sake.
Good luck, sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them; in that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Restart the router and the broadband device, if they're separate. Any change?
Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or the computer's firmware. Any change?
If possible, connect to the router with an Ethernet cable and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?
Are any other devices on the network, and if so, are they the same?
If you can connect to more than one network, are they all the same?
Are all network applications affected, or only some? If only some, which ones?
Is networking always the same, or is the problem intermittent?
Disconnect all other devices from the network. Any change?
If you're running a MacBook with the lid closed, open the lid. Any difference?
Start up in safe mode and test. Any difference?
Start up in Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. Any difference?
If possible, turn off Bluetooth and disconnect any USB 3 devices. Any difference?

What's the best fix for a slow computer?

What model computer? What are your primary uses and apps?
First thing anyone can do is replace or upgrade the system boot drive to SSD. Makes a very nice improvement.
How new or old is it? What version of OS X is it running?
Maybe it won't run faster but could run better with more RAM.
Take a look at all the tabs in Activity Monitor. If not on the Dock, go into Applications/Utilities and open it and keep it on the dock. Can tell you what is using your processor the most, RAM usage, disk and network I/O.
Don't install things that aren't needed. That can be counter intuitive to some but 'less is more' and some just really pull a computer system down. Security programs, "clean up programs" and others.

  • HP Network Software causing SLOW computer.....need help

I am in the hurt locker.  I have an an Office Pro 8600 that is wirelessly conncted.  This software is causing significant slow computer issues.
Under the windows task manager, there is a file that keeps replicating itself called HPNetworkCo.... and it will replicate itself a few thousand times to the point where I have about 2,000 of these processes running and all my CPU usage is taken up.  It will add one process about every few seconds rendering the PC useless in about 1 to 2 hours and requiring a re-boot to scrub them.....then it starts over.
    Any ideas?

What other error messages and oddities is your operating system showing to you?
The description you have given sounds more like an operating system issue rather than a printer software issue.
    Best regards,
    erico

  • Since downloaded the last update, Firefox uses 90% of my CPU power slowing my pc to a crawl, why?

I switch on my pc and open Firefox and then the whole pc slows down to a total crawl, the page i am trying to open will take about 5 minutes to open. I try to close Frirefox but the whole program freezes and I have to force close it, sometimes I have to shut down the entire computer and start again. When I open task manager to see if there are other things running in the background it shows Firefox as using up a whopping 90-99% of my cpu power. If I wait for up to 20 minutes from when I first turn on my pc the problem seems to go away. But there are no other programs running on the machine to make it so slow. Not sure if this is the usual crap I have to deal with for running Vista or if its something to do with your latest update, I had no problems until after I had the update.

  • Photos from an Ipod to computer harddrive

    Hi Everyone,
First time on here, I have an IPOD 5 gen,
My IPOD and ITUNES were on another computer which has crashed.
I have uploaded ITUNES on my new computer but having problems transfereing the songs and photo's from IPOD to new ITUNES libary,
Can some one advise me if I can transfer whats on my ipod TO NEW itunes and can I transfer my photo's from IPOD to computer,
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

You can use 3rd party software, such as Yamipod, to move non-iTunes purchased music to your computer.
Try this link for your photos: http://www.ehow.com/how4451862photos-ipod-pc-pc-ipod.html
Just remember if you synced your photos to your iPod they are going to be thumbnails and look pretty poor on your computer.

  • Multiple ipods, one computer: HELP!!

We have bought two ipod nanos for our family. I had used the CD to download one, and then used the 2nd CD that came with the 2nd ipod to download the 2nd nano. before installing the 2nd ipod, the computer required me to uninstall the first one. Did I even need to install the software for the 2nd ipod if I had already installed the software for the first one? How do you get two ipods set up on one computer?!?!

ITunes can handle many iPods! The only downside of sharing the same iTunes music library, is if both persons have dramatically different musical tastes, they may become frustrated when they have to listen to the other person's music.
This is one of the reasons to use playlists, you can configure each person's iPod nano to sync up to specific playlists of music that each specific person likes to listen to, this way two people get dramatically different content on their iPods without having to manually move music back and forth to their iPods!
To configure the iPods, attach an iPod to the computer, select preferences and select the iPod tab. In the music subtab, select the specific playlists you want the iPod to draw its music from. Repeat for the second iPod and choose the appropriate playlists for that person's taste.
If you are also going to display photos on your nano, realize that the iPod loads music first, photos second. If the music playlists exceed the capacity of the nano, it will only load music. To help control this, you can put size limits on your larger playlists to make sure that there is still room on your nano for photos...
welcome to the power of iTunes & iPod!

  • Slow computer after logicboard replacement/ any way to retrieve 18 month old receipts

I purchased a Macbook Pro in August of 2008 and have been generally pleased with it. About a month ago it stopped turning on so I brought it in to the Apple store. They claimed that the video card was fried and that they would need to replace the entire logic board. The computer has been out of warranty for a little while now so I was seriously debating shelling out the $330 to replace the logic board. The genius guy assured me that it would run like new once it was replaced so I went ahead and did it. When I got it back, I soon noticed that everything was running slower. Over the last month, the computer has gotten so slow its almost unusable, so I started snooping into the computer a little bit. I noticed that I had 2 gb of memory. I think I originally installed 4 gb of memory but I cant be sure. I checked for the receipt but its nowhere to be found. Not too surprising considering how long its been sicne I originally bought the computer. I looked up the standard specs on everymac.com and found that 2 gb was the baseline. I am pretty sure Ive upgraded the memory on every computer I've ever gotten which further deepens my suspicion.  Now, I dont know for sure if I actually had 4 gb of memory and I dont want to start ranting and raving at the apple store about how the evil repairmen stole 2 gb of memory from me if I am not sure. Does anyone know of a way to check what was originally in my computer? If it turns out im simply forgetful, does anyone have any ideas about the slow computer following logicboard replacement? A quick google search let me know that I am not the only one with this problem but didnt turn up much in the way of help. Thanks so much.

  • Connecting ipod causes computer to freeze

Hello, I'm not sure which ipod I have (a 20 gig purchased around Dec. 2004). I just got a new computer with Windows Vista because my old one (which my ipod was configured to) died. That computer had Windows XP. I installed the latest version of iTunes on the new computer and tried to connect my iPod to the new computer and it causes iTunes as well as my entire computer to freeze when the iPod is connected via USB. However, when I disconnect the iPod the computer unfreezes. I would like to synch my ipod with the new computer so I can add everything from the ipod onto the new computer. Does anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

I am having a similar problem. My whole computer doesn't freeze just "my computer" and itunes. But both windows and itunes don't recognize my ipod. I restored my ipod using a mac (erasing all my songs) and re-restored it on my pc. (It did recognize my ipod once I had formatted it on a mac first and asked for a reformat to windows) But it would not sync once I had finished with the restore. Please help?

  • NOT ABLE TO IMPORT MUSIC AND VIDEO FILES FROM IPOD TO COMPUTER/ITUNES LIBRARY !!!!

Hi.... I am having IPod Nano 5th Generation. I can access music and video files (that are stored in Ipod memory) in Ipod. But when I connect the ipod to computer, I am not able to access/import these music and video files through computer. Also, I am not able to see any folders like DCIM, Contacts, etc... in the memory of IPod. Can any body help me out... ?

Search it up on google.com.  There's a lot of apps that will help you do this.  Check out this one:
    http://www.imtoo.com/ipod-computer-transfer.html
You can also check out this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWvYo6Gcq44
I tried the import software (trial version) and it was fine but I didn't want to pay for software.  You can authorize up to 5 computers in the house to access your iTunes music and other iTunes purchases. Open iTunes, you can go under Store and select Authoize this computer.
    Good luck!
