IPod Software Broke OSX?

A friend of mine had his installatino of 10.3 broken after installing the latest iPod software from teh included CD. I think I installed the Windows software and that might be screwing things up (the titlebar is popping on and off the screen rapidly; can't access Finder, etc.) He can access the computer across his network but can't do anything on the machine itself. Any ideas how to get all the offending software off so that he can actually access the machine locally again?

The later iOSs requires at least OSX 10.5.8 for the Mac. You need iTunes 10.5 but 10.4.11 only goes to 9.x.. 10.5.8 is a paid upgrade.
Are you sure that you have a 3G iPod? If it is 8 or 16 GB it is a 2G and those can only go to 4.2.1 (also requires 10.5.8 or later). A 32 GB can be either 2G or 3G. To identify yours:

My name is Benji. I am one of the customer of apple and Mac. I got many staffs from apple, and I believe it's really a good company. Unfortunately, one day after I used the ipod updater 2005-9-23, one of my ipod, an ipod mini 4GB lost it functionality. The situation is like after installion the ipod updater, a apple logo shown on the screen of my ipod mini, and then suddenly, a folder logo appear with "www.apple.com/support/ipod". I did search on that website and got no solution. Then I went to one of the apple store which is in Staten Island mall for assistance. I made an assigment there, and the staff who responds to my case told me that they couldn't fix it, since mine is an old generation ipod. I asked him whether that ipod updater granteen the safety of user, he then told me to post my situation online to you to see whether I would get a replacement or any refund on it. Please help me, since that ipod is the gift from my girl friend. And I did read the requirment before installation. I hope apple would reponds to this accident.

5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod

If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"

I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

Newest iTunes/iPod software compatability

Hi there,
I have a 4th gen. click wheel iPod. A month or so back I installed iTunes 7.0, and immediately upon connecting my iPod it stopped working. Now any time I try to turn it on, it sounds as though the actual disc drive inside is skipping, and I either get the sad iPod or folder icons. Is this a compatability issue between older iPod models and the new iTunes? I need to figure out whether I should get a new iPod, because my poor old one will NOT reset. Please help!

Ipod software installed incorretly, even though i have installed the software from apple 5 times already today!!!!! And now it says itunes is installed incorrectly after installing and unistalling that 5 times as well. What am i doing wrong?
This is severly ******* me off it even did it to my moms ipod that she got yesterday for christmas

New (Antique) iPod Software - Where's that feature?!

So, in the fun old version of the iPod software, I was able to eject my Pod from the computer, but leave it attached and charging while playing tunes over sterio or headphones.
I sent it in for service, and the helpful folks at Future Shop made it work again, and I was glad. Until I noticed the new software won't let me use the iPod at all while ejected but still connected to the computer.
It gives me a very helpful "Now Safe To Disconnect" message with a cheery checkmark, but refuses to respond to the buttons until I actually physically sever the connection 'twixt computer and Pod.
Do I need to up- or down- grade the software on the pod to get my feature back, and how do I do that?
I'm on a Powerbook G4, running OSX 10-4, and a 3G iPod (4 buttons and a wheel.)

Seems it was a hardware problem - the iPod died of hard drive failure a few weeks later and this issue pretty much turned into a moot point and was forgotten.

I try to download an app, but it says I need a new version of iPod software, yet I have the latest version.

I've had this issue a couple times now. I have a iPod touch. It is a couple years old, but still new enough to have dual cameras. There have been a couple apps I've tried to load, and it tells me I need a new version of iPod software. I go to the iPod software version screen, and it tells me I have the latest version available.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

See if you can download the last compatible version by:
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)

You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.
If not successful then you need a newer model iPod if you want to use that app

Hard disk wiped, and now I cant re-load my ipod software

I got a new graphics card and my mum stuffed it when she tried to install it. We got it done professionally but they had to re-set my computer. we paid extra to have them transfer all my programs and documents to another computer and transfer them back. It didnt work, I lost everything except any folders on my desktop (weird huh). Anyway, I lost itunes, quicktime and my ipod software. I tried to re-load it(using the cd) onto my computer but it comes up with a window saying "error: 0x80040707" "access is denied". I used my cd and loaded it onto my sisters computer fine and Im wondering what went wrong. After that I tried downloading itunes from the apple site and even though it says its installed, when I open it it comes up with the message 'itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close' straight away, without even opening itunes.
Im not having a problem with any other software and I dont know what to do about it.
Aside from that I lost some very important photos when my computer was wiped. I still have them on my ipod and I cannot get them off. It says I have a thumbs folder and a photo database file. How do I get the photos off, especiallyy since I cant seem to get itunes back

When I was updating my child's ipod touch with itunes....it put the ipod in recovery mode and said I would need to restore and then update....which was my only option to choose, so when I chose restore & update....after going thru it seemed the process, then a window came up that stated the ipod couldn't be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable and to try again. After trying this several times unsuccessfuly and going thru the steps on the help section, the ipod is still not able to restore & update, thus we can't access anything on our very new ipod touch and I am very frustrated, can't afford any Apple support tech time. PLEASE HELP!!
